Leopard Safari not as Good as Tiger

I have had several problems with various web sites since upgrading to Leopard. On one site Safari doesn't recognize automatically checked boxes. On another site Safari doesn't read the text. Is any one else experiencing these difficulties? My own solution was to download Opera for Mac which doesn't seem to have these problems.

We have an iMac and I followed the upgrade and have to say am also quite disappointed in performance.
I am constantly informing people of how pleased I have been since converting to a Mac from the machine logging out when I ask in a few seconds and a fast initial startup, in contrast to any Windows experience!
I also feel that Leopard is not as snappy and the main problem I have at present is that apps are not exiting and the Force Quit is not having any affect. Right now, iPhoto does not appear to have closed correctly and I cannot restart it. If I try and log off this will not happen for ages..so now I am back to a typical Windows OS behaviour..very disappointed and wish I was not tempted to be an early adopter.
As many have said I am sure that Apple will get things sorted with an update.
Does any body know how to kill these apps using a different method?
Regards
Andy

I have used Safari for years. After Leopard install, it seemed slower and often never fully loads,
I experimented with Firefox and it loads fine and is much faster
I have even run them at the same time side by side ... Safari is slow, doesn't load fully and Firefox goes to it.
So it's not my airport connection. Anyone know?
Also when is a delete and reinstall in order as I have had problems with Itunes, ICal, Safari, Disk Utility, Address Book etc. I have been taking them down one by one but it is very time consuming and not 100%

  • Mail Preview Function is not good as Tiger Mail!

Hi, I have currently upgraded to Leopard found that the system is much more powerful. As I received many emails everyday and mail program is one of the programs that I used most. I found that the preview function in Leopard mail is not good as tiger mail. If the mail comes with only few photos, it still ok to open them, but I found that if it comes with more than 10 or more, the preview function try very hard to load the photos and the rainbow balloon keep on running until the system hanged.
I had tried the function in Tiger Mail with over even 100 photos but still fine, I don't know why Leopard Mail will that weak as it just a simple function. I don't know you guys have this problem or not but I found this function very useful and convenient, and I hope Leopard won't let me disappointed.

  • When ever I launch my safari, it will stay on for about a minute and then quits on me. It has a "safari quit unexpectedly" dialog box with a bunch of codes that I can send a report to apple. im not very good with this kind of thing, plz help!

Im not very good at troubleshooting, but I have played around with the system preferences. My airport connection is fine as well as the ethernet. Firewall says its not connected, (im not sure if that matters or not?)
I have subtracted my network from the list, restarted, and then put it back and and restarted...nothing seems to be working. Iam in the middle of a correspondace course and i really need my internet back...any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
    Then GULP, check for this...
Flashback - Detect and remove the uprising Mac OS X Trojan...
    http://www.mac-and-i.net/2012/04/flashback-detect-and-remove-uprising.html
In order to avoid detection, the installer will first look for the presence of some antivirus tools and other utilities that might be present on a power user's system, which according to F-Secure include the following:
    /Library/Little Snitch
    /Developer/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/MacOS/Xcode
    /Applications/VirusBarrier X6.app
    /Applications/iAntiVirus/iAntiVirus.app
    /Applications/avast!.app
    /Applications/ClamXav.app
    /Applications/HTTPScoop.app
    /Applications/Packet Peeper.app
If these tools are found, then the malware deletes itself in an attempt to prevent detection by those who have the means and capability to do so. Many malware programs use this behavior, as was seen in others such as the Tsunami malware bot.

  • Mac OSX 10.5.7 Leopard can not detect webcam

    Hello Support,
I am using Mac OSX 10.5.7 Leopard in Safari and FireFox however Flash Player v 9 and 10 does not detect my isight webcam (firewire). I can not even change my settings to choose a webcam because the image that I get when I go to the settings is just a screenshot but not interactive. I have attached the picture.
Does Flash player work in Mac OSX 10.5.7 Leopard Safari and FireFox? I get as far as the allow or deny button, then I get a error message saying that my cam is not detected.
    Can you please advise.
    Thanks in advance

I really don't know if this will work for you on a Windows machine, but it is downloading the Tiger version for me on a Leopard machine, so may be worth a try …
    Safari for Tiger
EDIT it doesn't appear to like that direct link, but redirects to another short page offering me a choice between Tiger and Leopard versions again. See what it does for you—hopefully it won't enforce a Windows solution again!

  • Leopard Safari requires reloading user name and password

Tried asking this another way and no one answered, which left me to wonder if no one on this forum knows the answer or it I wasn't clear in asking it? Let me be more specific: Leopard Safari requires a user name and password to be entered each time an appropriate web site is opened, even when "refresh" is clicked. For example, I use "myyahoo" for the homepage, but now each time I open Safari, I am required to reenter the user name and password. Ditto every site I have saved autofill data for. This did not happen with Tiger, prior to upgrading to Leopard last Friday. I also tried phoning the Apple Care support number -- a 37 minute wait produced someone who said my call needed to be forwarded to the Safari desk, and likely involve another extensive wait. So I gave up that idea and am trying here again. Help!

Thank you! In Preferences, all the autofill boxes are checked. Just to be sure, I unchecked them all then rechecked them. Autofill form works in Edit. Before the upgrade, Safari was able to maintain user names and passwords on sites where I wanted them. After the upgrade Friday evening, Safari stopped doing this on all sites where I already had a user name and password, including the Mac site. Simply, I am now required to re-enter this information every visit to every site, even if I just click refresh, not only when I exit Safari and return. Even if I leave a site where I have entered the password, visit another site, and then return, the user name and password must be entered again. I have still had no luck getting Apple Care on the phone. This morning I bit the bullet and decided to wait until finally somebody answered, but no amount of patience can listen to scratchy wait music for more than 45 minutes, which is when I gave up. So if someone here doesn't understand this, guess I'm stuck having to enter this information again and again and again... or figure out how to get back to Tiger.

  • Client Upgraded from Tiger to Leopard Can No Longer Connect to Tiger Server

I just finished upgrading a G5 2GHz DP Powermac from Tiger to Leopard. This was an Archive and Install upgrade with importing the old settings. After verifying the account migration, including .Mac connectivity, and fixing all 3rd party software compatibilities/upgrades, I tried to connect to our Tiger 4.11 server by clicking on the server's Icon in the Shared section of the Finder Sidebar. The finder then switches to browse the the server for shares: "Connecting..." is displayed under the tool bar, with a "Share Screen..." and "Connect As..." buttons to the right.
At this point the "Connecting..." remains displayed with the spinning circle in the bottom right of the Finder window.... spinning. This situation continues for several minutes until is seems the system gives up.
If I click on the Path button on the Tool Bar, and go up to the Shared level, ALL the Shares on the Network are displayed, including all the Tiger Client machine shares. I can click on the triangle beside the Tiger Client's icon, and all the drives and home directories on the Mac are listed. All the client shares can be accessed without any issues. NOTE: There are no other Leopard clients on the LAN.
Prior to the Leopard upgrade, this client could connect to the Tiger server as well. All the other clients on the LAN can access the Tiger server also.
On the Leopard client I have tried clicking and the "Connect As..." button and using the menu "Connect to Server" and specifying the server's IP, and I get the same "Connecting..." message with a "non-connecting" result.
I can only assume that somehow the Account Name and password are not being passed correctly. But, using "Connect As..." should resolve that. However, "Connect As..." does not give me a user/password window!
If I check the AFP Access log on the Server, the only messages displayed are "Mounted Volume..." No messages in the error log, and no messages in the "Connections" section.
Can anyone help me figure out why the Leopard client can not connect to the Tiger Server?
My apologies if the description of my problem is a bit disjointed. I have been thrown into server admin and am learning "Trial by Fire".
Any help or suggestions on how to resolve this issue will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Gary

    OK. A quick update.
After waiting for about 10 minutes for the rotating circle in the bottom right corner to stop, I was able to click on the "Connect As..." button. It took another 10 minutes, but the Connect As window eventual popped up. I entered the Userid and Password (saving to Keychain) and was able to see all the sharepoints on the the server. I browsed all the connected drives and folders without issue.
I then disconnected from the server. Reviewing the AFP logs on the server shows messages for the connection Login and Logout.
I then tried to reconnect to the server, and again another 10 minutes wait, although this time the Leopard client eventually connected automatically with the proper User, as per the AFP logs confirms.
Although, the client can now connect to the server, for it to take 10 minutes will be unacceptable to management, not to mention the end user. Tiger clients can connect in a couple seconds!
Is there a way to reduce the Leopard login time to, say, a couple seconds, like it does with the Tiger clients?
Again, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Gary

  • Has Snow Leopard made this so good, I don't have to do it?

    Hi,
I have a MacBook Pro 2.66 running the latest FCPro and Snowie. I also have "Menu Meters" up in the menu bar. I've noticed when editing in FCPro 7 (7.01) and I render scenes, sometimes menu Meters (both of them) show 75 - 90% of the processors are busy working . . . rendering!
GOOD! That's what their supposed to do. But sometimes, and I can't find the pattern here . . . I'll render something and the processors are only working at 30%. I'm wondering . . . 'why don't you 2 work a little harder so this'll render faster?!!" I do have monimal programs running in the background, MAIL, maybe Preview, QT - that's it. Nothing major to distract the rendering "bosses"!
I have not played with QMaster on the MacBook Pro as I read somewhere that with "only" 2 processors, it won't do anything with a MacBook Pro.
So I guess my question is . . . why does the rendering processes frequently change so much- using more or less of my processors? Can QMaster (if I know how to set it up, which I don't really) "order" the rendering machine to work 'harder' and faster? (At the downside of multitasking slower, which I don't care about, because I'm not doing it anyway.)
OR . . . is Snowie very intelligent about my FCPro program and does Snowie "intelligently" automatically control the processors to run at their max and I should do nothing? I wish this were right, but then why do menu meters show such varied performance?
Lastly, I have a Mac Pro Tower 8 core 2.8 gig also. I've tried playing with Qmaster on that one - it's menu meters show the same "varied" performance levels - but nothing I do with Qmaster predictable effects its "use" or "control" of rendering or compressing - it seems Snowie just seems to most of the time keep them at 60% or higher. (But I really don't know what I'm doing . . . so I might be setting QMaster all wrong! I seem to lay off it now)
Is Snow Leopard doing such a good job controlling performance, I should keep my hands "OFF" and just let everything run automatically? It seems sometimes in compressor, while compressing . . . it runs all 8 cores at 75% or so much of the time - but sometimes not!
Some of the articles I're read on QMaster are dated before Snowie, so can I rely on those stories? Or have things change now.
Thanks - I always learn a lot from these chat boards, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who's wondered about this. (I hope!)
    Thank you,
    Larry

  • Im trying to instal snow leopard on my macbook. its running tiger 10.4.11 and it meets all the requirements  but it ask me for a restart to begin instalation progres, i restar it and it doesn't happen anything

im trying to instal snow leopard on my macbook. its running tiger 10.4.11 and it meets all the requirements  but it ask me for a restart to begin instalation progres, i restar it and it doesn't happen anything. anyone can help me?

I assume the restart was prompted during the installation process?
First of all, that restart will take several minutes while files are moved into place and should not be interrupted.
If it fails, or you have interrupted the process, you'll need to boot from the installer (hold down the C key on startup) and use Disk Utility to erase the drive prior to continuing the installation.
That will wipe all data on the drive, though, so if you didn't make a backup before beginning the upgrade, you'll need to get your data off safely before proceeding. That may likely require the use of another Mac to access yours in Target Disc Mode.

After I updated my os to mountain lion from snow leopard, safari will not open.  Any suggestions?  My internet is working fine because I was able to use an alternate web browser.

Try opening safari directly from /Applications, not the dock icon.  If this works, remove the dock icon and replace it.

  • Leopard will not shut down?

    Hi,
On installing Leopard I had loads of issues so decided to do a clean install which did resolve all my issues. However, this latterly I noticed Leopard will not shut down, it runs through the process, as in the finder and any open applications disappear, then I just get winding down icon and it never turns off.
    Any suggestions?

    a brody wrote:
It is unlikely any next update will fix this issue, because it is not an update related issue. If it were, no one here would be able to shutdown their machine.
Is this necessarily true? If Leopard shut down is hanging fora several people when Tiger did not then this strikes me as a software problem that will (hopefully) be identified, fixed, and rolled up in a future update.
I will caveat this comment though with the fact I'm new to the world of macs and very new to these forums so I don't necesarily know what I'm talking about(!) so please correct me if I'm wrong to believe this.
Let me throw my experience into the mix :
Having never had any software issues with my Mac's I upgraded to Leopard a few days ago and noticed two things:
    1) When booting up it gets to the desktop and displays Macintosh HD quickly but then spins the coloured wheel (what's this called by the way?) for about 15 seconds before displaying the dock and the rest of the desktop. I have a 2.8ghz extreme iMac intel so surely should be much faster.
    2) Shut down does not finish. The files/dock and everything go, but the backdrop screen remains with the egg-timer (again what is this called now it's not an egg timer)
    Thanks for any tips.
