Leopard & Sony DSC T50 Camera - Slow Import of Photos

I have a Sony DSC T50 Camera and a Powerbook G4 running Leopard.
Under Tiger, importing photos from my camera was fast and easy.
Under Leopard, the function is so degraded as to be unusable.
20 minutes to rully ready the contents of the Memory Stick Pro Duo.
40 seconds per 800K image to import the photo using Image Capture.
After wiatinf forever, the transfer from Image Capture in iPhoto is quick and works just as it did under Tiger. It's the download that is the problem.
Same camera, same computer hardware; it worked great under Tiger, it doesn't work under Leopard.
Anyone else having similar problems?

First - I suggest posting this in the iPhoto forum - that is where the iPhoto gurus hang out - http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=227
Second have you tried capturing the photos using image capture (in your applications folder) instead of using iPhoto?
Third if that does not help purchase an inexpensive media card reader and try it - that will save wear and tear on your camera and eliminate the possibility of running out of battery while downloading which can corrupt things

  • How do I import video from a Sony DSC-HX100V Camera into iPhoto

How do I import video from a Sony DSC-HX100V Camera into iPhoto? . . . i can see all the photos but the videos are not visable (I also connected the SD card with a USB Sony SD Card Reader - again only the photos are accessible - no video files are shown) . . .

If you're shooting AVCHD then you'll need to upgrade to iPhoto 11v9.3 to import this material.
A note on AVCHD: This format was developed for people who are shooting to edit the material afterwards. If you're shooting to edit, then iMovie or Final Cut are the correct home for this material. If you're not shooting to edit consider using one of the other video formats on your Camera.

    Bruce,
When I made the transition to digital some 8 years ago, I had tremendous help from a number of well documented websites, among which:
    http://www.luminous-landscape.com
I think a lot of stuff there to get you seriously going. Another one is:
    http://www.computer-darkroom.com
I sold all my film based stuff, except a Nikon F3 and a handful of lenses and a Paterson developing tank.
The Nikon suspiciously smells like foam mirror damping strips chemically decaying.
I sold my enlarger over the internet. The word "enlarger" caused me to be on SpamCops blacklist for a while.
I'm in this since the seventies, and I think you'll be as amazed as I was at the possibilities and control you have. And no more bags with $300 worth of film that's consumed in one shoot.
Jump in both feet! you won't be sorry. And these forums are the best help you can get.
    Good luck,
    Rob

  • I just bought a Sony DSC-H1 camera... does it sync?

I just bought a Sony DSC-H1 camera and was wondering if anyone has been able to sync their photos to this? I just to see if I can use it as a back up, etc. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately some sad folks like to come to the forum not to help but simply to pick arguments for their own amusments.
No digitial still camera by any major maker requires installing drivers from a CD or DVD. None.
The same is true of many scanners and copiers too, in the hands of a knowledgeable computer user. People running older systems that they don't understand or know how to use will disagree, of course, if they choose to be argumentative. Personally, I ignore usch people.
The common causes for your issue are
    1. A USB fault. That might be a damaged cable, an issue with the USB ports on your computer or your camera. Easiest way to check: swap the cables, try a different port, make sure your camera is on and charged
    2. Try use a USB Card Reader or the Card Reader port on your Mac, if it has one.
    3. Another possibility is that the camera card may need to be reformatted - you do this with the camera only.

Our picture transfer from iphone, ipads and or Sony DSC-W150 camera ended when we changed int providers from xfinity to frontier. All attempts to troubleshoot have not corrected problem. The only changes to the system that was functioning properly are Fios int service and router. All apple components are using the fios router. Can anyone Help get us up and running again? Thanks

How have you been making the physical connection from:
    iPhone
    iPads
    Sony DSC-W150 camera
    ...to your Mac?
If WiFi, have you changed the WiFi encryption method or WiFi password? If so, each device need the new information netered into it manually to get onto your "new" WiFi Network.

  • New Sony DSC T900 Camera Advice

This is my first post on the Apple forums although I have read many post on here from others and found it a very useful and informative place to learn, I am also to fairly new to Final Cut also making the transition over from iMovie 08 so please be patient with me, thanks.
I hope the links work I have inserted have and I have given enough information to you all to try and help.
My system is a iMac 24 inch Intel 2.4GHz processor with 1 GB of memory
Here go's, my query is about the new Sony DSC T900 still and video camera that I have recently purchased, I have shot a 15 minute 1 GB HD movie in 1280x720 widescreen on it with a Sony pro duo 8 GB AVCHD memory stick, which is formatted to MS Dos(Fat32) according to the Apple info tab and is "as is" when i purchased it.
I can not find much out about this camera on other forums as it as only just come out from Sony I think.
The camera uses a USB docking station to connect it to the computer and I am using a
2 terabyte Western Digital external hard for media storage which is formatted in Mac OS extended journaled and set as my scratch disk storage
My question is how or can I upload direct into Final Cut Express 4 HD from this camera using USB connection, I have all the setting correct I think in F.C for my system and camera, and also have Tom's book for reference which I have found very very useful but I am not having any luck, after trying numerous things to get the footage into F.C. I can easily load it into iMovie 08 and export as an XML file and I can use import in F.C direct from the memory stick but when I try any other methods in Toms book i have no luck.
Are there any advantages or disadvantages to any of these methods I have used so far as opposed to the likes of Log & Transfer and which should I use if it is possible to to achieve the best results and to retain the best quality of the footage in the final rendering of the movie.
If anybody can help and needs more information to help I will post further details so please just ask.
    Thanks in advance
    Guy

    Welcome to the forum!
FCE can only capture or ingest DV, HDV, or AVCHD directly and can only edit DV, Apple Intermediate Codec, or some other Quicktime formats natively. I don't believe the footage taken by this camera meets any of these specifications. You should first convert the footage taken on your camera using [MPEG Streamclip|http://www.squared5.com> to a format FCE understands.

  • Tutorial for SONY DSC-T100 camera?

    Hi,
I use a Power  Mac G4; run MacOS OX Tiger 10.4.11.  I need help in downloading pictures from my SONY DSC-T100 digital camera to my Mac.  The instructions on the SONY Manual are mostly for Windows users, and are very vague for the Mac users.  I need a step-by-step procedure to download pictures from my SONY camera to my Mac.
    Sincerely,
    Angel

I'm sorry, but there is no 10.7.5 - do you mean 10.4.x or 10.5.x or 10.6.x?
I asked because 10.6. (which you have now) no longer supports the classic environment, but previous OS's did. So, if the store "upgraded" you to the latest OS when you had it in for repair, then that would be the reason. So, if you can't remember which OS version was on it, I would call or go to the store and ask if they changed the OS version. Now, I'm not sure what a Sony Driver Disc is - do you mean it's the software that came with your camera? Depending on the format of your camera cards, you should be able to use a USB card reader instead which might be easier to deal with.

  • Digital camera video importing as photos :(

I lost my daughter 's  hula  recital   I filmed on a panasonic digital camera.  I lost the cable to import the photos and avi video, so I transfered the SD card to a canon powershot to import into iphoto.  Doing this caused the video to be imported as a jpg.  Why?  I've shot video with the canon.  Now instead of footage, I have stills.  Is there anyway to see if the video information is retrievable?  I deleted all off the SD card not knowing this bogus transfer happened.

Info shows that all photos are jpeg.  I double click and see a photo with out the opportunity to play/pause.
I did a test here are home:
    1.  Recorded 10 minutes of video in the panasonic digital camera
1a.  Viewed the video in the camera and it is indeed video
    2.  Moved the card to the Canon camera (because I have the cable to import with that camera; lost cable for panasonic)
    Imported "video" into iphoto
    3.  Viewed in iphoto
    4.  Image is a jpeg still not avi video
Good advice not to delete the images on the card from iphoto, but I had success for years.
    Thx.

  • TS3850 I am using a Sony HBR -VLU camera to import into Final Cut 10. Plugging into an I MAc that doesn't have a firewire port. The camera is not being recognized by the computer. The camera is set to play tape too. Why is camera not recognized?

I am trying to import from the camera into an I-MAC. I'm told the I-mac does not have the firewire port, but has thunderbolt. Is the only way to get video from the camera via a firewire port? Is someone giving me bad information as to the firewire port not being on the I-MAC? The camera is not being recognized. Thanks in advance.

Apple has moved on from Firewire and the current iMacs (and most MBPs) have Thunderbolt, USB3 and USB2.
There are Firewire toThunderbolt adaptors. Here's one. You also want a four pin to nine pin FW cable to run from your camera to the adaptor.

  • Mini wont see my Sony DSC-P73 Camera

It used to but I must have changed a setting somewhere.
I have checked the usb port and it reads my usb stick and other Sony Camera phone fine. SO I know its not this.
I have put the Memory stick from the Camera into a card reader and it still wont see it.
I have put the camera on a laptop PC and it see's it fine.
I have put the card reader on the laptop and again it see's it fine.
When the camera is plugged into the mac, the screen display on the Sony shows a USB connection.
So I know the USB connector works, the camera works and the Mini can see other devices just not the Memory stick. My only conclusion is I have changed a setting somehow but have no idea what!!!! Any help gratefully received.

First thing to check on the Mac is, open Image Capture and under Preferences for Image Capture, under the General tab, see what the setting is for "When a camera is connected, open:". It could be that you have no application configured.
Once you have confirmed the above setting is correct, if things still aren't working right, I recommend you try reformatting the Memory Stick while it is in the camera. Refer to the camera's user manual if you are unsure how to do this. If you have pictures on the Memory Stick that you want to keep, download them to the PC prior to reformatting. Good luck.

  • I need a driver that will work for my Sony DSC-S50 camera, I took my Mini to the Mac store to eject two CD's stuck.  Now my camera will not download to iPhoto like it did before.

I had to take my Mini to the Mac store to retrieve a disc stuck in the drive now my camera will not download into iPhoto.  I have a Sony Driver Disc, but when I try to open the disc I get a error message "Classic environment is no longer supported".   I have OSX 10.6.7 what has changed?

I'm sorry, but there is no 10.7.5 - do you mean 10.4.x or 10.5.x or 10.6.x?

  • Sony DSC-T30 unable to import pictures

Previously no problems; last successful import 19th September.
    OS X 10.5.5, iPhoto 7.1.4.
Able to see the mini pictures and import, but when complete, I am told the file format is invalid, and the pictures are then deleted from iPhoto.
Importing as .jpg (as previously worked). USB modes "Mass Storage" and "PTP" both tried with same problem.
Can drag files from camera to desktop, and can view them.
Trying to import from desktop to iPhoto get the same message:
"The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognised file type or the files may not contain vaild data)."
Given that this was working about 3 weeks ago, and the camera has not been changed; anyone any ideas??

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Very slow importing of photos from camera lightroom 4.4

I'm trying to import photos directly from my nikon D7000 as I normally do, but today, it is taking forever. I have tried restarting lightroom, as well s my MAC and also tried optimizing my catalog, and also installed software updates. HELP!!

I would not risk storing all the pictures of a trip to a single 16 GB card... Using your IPAD as backup seems a very good idea.
About the speed of uploading a library of 16 GB, it's not much more than copying 16GB to your computer from a card or a USB stick. You can test it yourself; 'getting' files from the card into the catalog is quick after the 16GB are copied, the only step which will be longer is the creation of the thumbnails, but that does not prevent you from working in the organizer before they are created.

  • When are there going to be more Sony DSC-WX9 cameras available???

We had to get our brand new camera replaced under the 3 year contract, but you didn't have any more at the time. It's been 2 weeks since we got the store credit. Where are the new cameras???

None of your fellow users here on these forums know and Apple's not telling.

  • IPhoto - 8.0.2 (4020 - much slower import of photos

I updated today to the latest version of iPhoto and instantly after installing importing photos in the same way as I usually do from my CF card (Canon RAW files) has become unbelieveably slow.
Are others experiencing this same issue?

    Hi tt,
I haven't had that experience so far on any of my computers. As a test, try with a new iphoto library (hold down the option key while you open the iPhoto program, click new library). If the same speed issue exists with a new library then something changed. If it DOES NOT persist in a new iphoto library than your specific library is having issues.
If the issue is happening with any library I would remove the following to the trash and restart:
/Library/Caches (you'll need your password for this one. Don't dump this on a regular basis but for an import issue it makes some sense)
    ~/Library/Caches
If the issue is happening with a specific library I would follow this article:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2638
    Hope that helps.
