Leopard tells me me Mac Pro does not meet requirements. Help.

I have just acquired a Mac Pro (2 750 GB Hard drives, 8 ram) and when I try to open Aperture 1.5.6 (Time Machine taken care of well in advance) I get the message:
"Your computer does meet the minimum hardware requirements for Aperture."
I have deleted and restored Aperture and continue to get the same message.
What gives? What can I do?
{Personally I think this Leopard is a bust. Took four hours before I could even log in [Finally got the Apple Pages update for this problem — password more than 8 characters]).
Thank you for any advice.
Susan

I just purchased a Mac Pro 2X3 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 2 750 HD and 4 GB 667 MHz and I tried installing my original Aperture Install disk and get a message that the machine does not meet the minimum hardware requirements. Then I check the requirements and it meets the Graphics card requirement with a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT. I don't get it. It's not terribly important because it's my wife's new Mac and she doesn't use Aperture I'm trying to convince her away from LightBox. Any suggestions.

  • Mac Pro does not auto-sleep (manual sleeping if fine!)

I have a small annoyance with my 2009 (Nehalem) Mac Pro I am wondering if someone can help with, or suggest something, please:
The Mac Pro does not auto-sleep; ever. I have played around with the sleep time settings, and enabled or disabled the 'sleep drives' option, but to no avail. Mac Pro will stay on, no matter if I am logged on OR even on the 'log on users' screen.
That said, I can sleep the Mac Pro manually at any time, and without any problems; it stays asleep without a hitch, and wake-up is flawless.
There is nothing in the console log that would tell me why the auto sleep doesn't function. I deleted the sleep plist and re-set, but again, no change.
Any ideas? Not sure what could signal the system to not do auto-sleep?
    It's running 10.6.3.
    Cheers,
    Dan

Exactly the same problems as those described above: forced sleep works (by using the power button or closing the lid) but automatic sleep doesn't (using 'Energy Saving' preferences).
Tried every single piece of advice here and on other posts: reset PRAM/ SMC, verified disc, repaired permissions, deleted the power saving preference files, cleared caches & history, restarted in every conceivable mode... The only things that worked were safe boot and creating a new user account which means it must be a software issue.
Disabled/ removed/ paused/ reinstalled every piece of software I could but to no avail. The most frustrating thing? Having to wait for 5 mins every time I tried something to check whether the damned thing was going to go to sleep.
In the end, and in desperation, I took the advice of Dino X and downloaded PleaseSleep. Success! A genius piece of software. It forces sleep when the Energy Saver preferences cut in but, even if I don't set exceptions, it won't force sleep if there's a DVD playing (for example).
Only had the Mac for a few months and I'll never go back to that other, unmentionable operating system; the Mac's just too good but I'm vexed that I'm having to use third party software to get it to work as it should (and was) - feels like a bit of a Win*s solution to me.

My early 2009 Mac Pro does not connect via bluetooth to my sound bar or bluetooth mini speakers. Both my wireless keyboard and mouse have no problems connecting. What do I need to do to connect to external bluetooth devices?

I would always have a wired keyboard and mouse on hand (need not be expensive ... any cheap wired devices will work).  "Emergency recovery" procedures can activate features in random order, so the opportunity to select a recovery partition may pass before the wireless devices are recognized.
That will let you select the "turn on Bluetooth" icon.

If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter "BOOT_TIME" (without the quotes) in the search box. Note the timestamps of those log messages, which refer to the times when the system was booted. Now clear the search box and scroll back in the log to the last boot time after  you had the problem. Select the messages logged before the boot, while the system was unresponsive or was failing to shut down. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). Please include the BOOT_TIME message at the end of the log extract.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in Console, look under System Diagnostic Reports for crash or panic logs, and post the entire contents of the most recent one, if any. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if present (it may not be.) Please don’t post any other kind of report — it will be very long and not helpful.

Did you erase the hard drive yourself? If not, what exactly are you seeing, and what happened immediately prior to you starting to see it?
Your profile indicates that you are/were running Lion (Mac OS X 10.7.4) on a retina MacBook Pro, so you should be able to hold down command-R at startup to enter recovery mode, and you can reinstall the system from there. But whether or not you need to do something else first depends on your answers to the questions above.

  • 10.4.11 won't install after download "disk does not meet requirements"

After successfully upgrading to 10.4.6, I was able to download (after three attempts) the upgrade to 10.4.11. When I went to install it, it said the volume I picked (the one the OS is on and just upgraded to Tiger) did not meet the requirements and had the red exclaimation point on it, as did all the other volumes. There is about 8.5 GB of free space on this volume. The upgrade was from the support website and was for the power PC, not the intel. What could be happening?

    Hi BDAqua,
This is the only discussion that repeats the "disk does not meet requirements" message I'm getting. I downloaded the combo and get that message. These are my specs:
    Machine Name: Power Mac G5
    Machine Model: PowerMac7,2
    CPU Type: PowerPC 970 (2.2)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 1.8 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
    Memory: 3 GB
    Bus Speed: 900 MHz
But I can't seem to find any requirements documentation that explains why my PowerPC won't take this upgrade. It's my son's computer and one of his favorite games just raised its req's to 10.4.6. So I went hunting (software update gave me nothing) and found the combo. Any advice appreciated.

i am trying to sync an ipad to a power mac g5.  i bought and upgraded to osx 10.5 and have tried to download and 10.5.6 or higher, but i keep getting same message:  "you cannot install mac os x update on this volume.  this volume does not meet requirements for this update".  help!

Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo Update
Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 5
To me, in all such updates, goes without saying maybe: backup, repair permissions, repair your drive (Disk Warrior does more reliable and thorough job, and it comes out to pennies if you don't wait until needed). Clone your system so you can restore or use the backup - just in case.
I'd even do a fresh format after your clone is done and do a full OS clean install and update, and then a quick import from Setup Assistant.
Mac computer with USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
    iTunes 10.2 or later recommended
    (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
    iTunes Store account
    Internet access
I'm going to assume there is something with the partitions on the drive, partition table most likely, though I know I've seen others with that error message - doesn't really point to cause, rarely does (make sure latest firmware update etc is sometimes included but again, we know that isn't why).

  • Newest Mac Pro does NOT work with CC14 - Will Adobe address this or not?

I have a Mac Pro late 2013 - the "trash can" - and when I tried installing Premiere CC14, it crashed multiple times before even completing the program's initial bootup. I had to install CS6 just to get operable, though this does not help me open the CC14 projects I have inherited. I have a colleague who uses a $1.5K laptop, and it works logarithmically faster and better with CC14 than my $4K new Mac Pro.  I have all the Adobe permissions set to "Read/Write" and it shows absolutely no speed improvements over a much less expensive iMac.  The CUDA feature is worthless unless Adobe develops a way for it to take advantage of the hardware configuration of the Mac Pro... And I'm having a hard time finding anything resembling an official statement suggesting this is anywhere close to a reality.  I have many After Effects plug ins, and while yes: They are 3rd party plug ins, these are not just electives - They are part of my arsenal that my loyal clients have come to expect.
For 15 years I have used After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator, all 15 of them on a Mac. In all that time I have NEVER experienced this kind of vagueness, finger pointing, and dodgy avoidance.  There seems to be an allergy to making an announcement that anything resembling a coordinated effort is going to happen.
Why would I buy "the fastest" Mac if Adobe didn't work with it?  MAC STORE staff didn't seem to think this was going to be an issue... Yet I can't find any official date as to when CC14 is projected to work with AMD architecture.
I'm feeling a lot like I did when Mac juked us with FCP-7 to FCP-X "upgrade.'   Et tu, Adobe?
    -JOHN BEYER
(PS - Yes I had Adobe Creative Cloud assistance help me troubleshoot)

No offense meant, but did you come here to ask for help, or are you just complaining?  Because it seems an awful lot like the latter...

So does CC2014 work on your Mac Pro or not?  The laptop doesn't "work logarithmically faster..." than your Mac Pro if the software isn't working to begin with.  Hyperbole, much?
The CUDA feature is worthless unless Adobe develops a way for it to take advantage of the hardware configuration of the Mac Pro...
CUDA isn't available on the new Mac Pro.  OpenCL is.  If you have the CUDA preference panel installed due to another piece of software putting it there, you're better served by deleting it.  It's not going to help you at all on the new Mac.  It may, in fact, cause problems.
Pr CC2014 works fine with OpenCL on the new Mac.  Ae doesn't, but Adobe has never said Ae does or would.  Anything you do in Ae is going to be CPU-bound.  If Pr is crashing, then it likely means you have something else on your system that's mucking things up.  Did you recover your user directory with something like Time Machine when you installed your new Mac?  Was your user directory originally on some other Mac?  What happens if you create an entirely new user from scratch, without restoring the home directory, and then try to kick Pr into gear?  Does it run?
Provide some details and perhaps someone can help.

  • Stuck at 10.4 - Cannot upgrade - Volume does not meet requirements.

I just installed a new hard drive in my 12" Powerbook G4. I did a clean install of Tiger - 10.4 - without any problems. I formatted the drive Mac OS Extended (Journaled) with one partition.
After booting and going through the setup process, I looked for updates. There were some iTunes, Java and DVD player updates, but that was it. I applied those and restarted. I ran software update again, but there were no OS updates. I downloaded the OS 10.4.10 PPC combo updater and ran it, but the hard drive has a red exclamation point with the warning that the update cannot be installed because the volume does not meet the requirements.
I then downloaded the 10.4.1 updater, and I got the same error.
I then zapped the PRAM and rebooted, but I got the same error. I then repaired permissions and rebooted and got the same error.
Then, I again did a clean erase and install of 10.4 from the original Tiger disc, but I'm again getting the same error.
I'd like to get this machine updated to 10.4.10 as soon as possible, but I'm not having any luck.
    Any other suggestions?

This is functionaly the same as an erase and install as my user tip explains:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=607614
Mac OS X doesn't offer a "clean install" per se.
How old is your Powerbook G4? If it was released prior to April 25 2005, you need to use the black retail 10.4.0 Installer disk to install Tiger which looks like . If it was released afterwards you need the same disk labeled 10.4.6, or the disk which came with the Powerbook. If you are using another vintage Mac model's installer disk, that won't work, and will yield this error. If you imported data from an Intel Mac via the Migration Assistant you could also have this error. If your hard disk is over 85% full, you may also have this problem. If permissions have not been repaired, or the directory is damaged this error could also happen. Is your data backed up? Do any of these possibly apply to you?

  • Installed FFm, but it says "device does not meet requirements"

Just did a beta upgrade of my Motorola Backflip mb300, to Android 2.1, after a year of waiting I immediately downloaded and installed FFm, it installed successfully, but when I try to open it, it says "device does not meet minimum requirements". I'm sorry but I don't know hardware specifics on the phone, much less any phone. But the only requirement I really saw for FFm was Android 2.0 and above, and this is 2.1 (beta). Could the problem be in the beta phase(?), doesn't seem likely since other apps for 2.0 and above work fine? Any ideas will be appreciated. If there is a hardware issue, any idea if there is an update coming that will work with this phone? Please say it will work.

Experimental nightly builds are not an option on my Motorola Backflip since Motorola and AT&T have crippled the phone and the OS. They will not allow anything to be installed outside of the Android Market. Any update on this issue?

  • Mac Pro does not stay consistently connected to internet

Okay, I will try to be as detailed as possible...
I recently moved and had a new internet connection set up. The company replaced the modem and router I previously had (against my will) with their modem/wireless router combo. My Mac Pro has a wired connection, while all other devices (iPods, iPhones, PC laptop, etc.) in my home are wireless. The wireless devices all work consistently fine, however, the Mac does not. Typically, while having network diagnostics open, I reset the modem and everything is fine. After a few minutes, or after closing diagnostics, it no longer works again. Today, even after restarting the modem and getting all green lights, it doesn't seem to connect at all.
I have Windows installed under boot camp and the connection there works perfectly fine. This tells me there is an issue within my OSX settings, and not the equipment or connection. After learning this, my cable company's tech support basically told me to get lost and contact Apple. Though I'm paying them an obsene amount of money for crappy internet service, they really could care less about ensuring that their products at least work with their customers' equipment (they even told me they're tech support is unfamiliar with OSX).
I'm guessing something in my network settings is causing this, but I don't have enough in-depth knowledge about this particular subject to troubleshoot it myself. I'm desperate for a good samaritan to help as my business can no longer operate until I have working internet access.
    PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

Disable the router function in the modem they provided and you can continue to use yours.
Modems, esp. cable, you may be able to return it.
There may be a list of modems that are compatible on their service - even some that aren't listed will be like SB6121.
And are you paying a monthly fee for their modem?
Others have "commented on" the Mac Pro not negotiating as well. But it was when you used your own router, right ?
    I am totally sold on
    having modem and router separate
Netgear routers - got the WNDR3400v2 last year and thinking about the next level, the R6300 probably this fall. I can even configure and monitor from iPad, iPhone, Android and their desktop app (Win and Mac).
I wonder if like my ISP they have a support forum, I'd be lost w/o. They can check the modem remote login and see what the modem is logging (over my head).
Had some odd electrial spike - 3x in a minute going onto UPS but not an outage. Spikes? left their modem 50% function and semi-crippled. I had to reset modem or it would reset itself I should say every 5-10 minutes at times. ISP could not tell until they got there. Then they found the modem was unable to connect to their activation page and had to replace it and the drop point on the telephone pole 70 ft away.
I now keep a spare modem of my own (SB6121) and continue to use theirs, Cisco.
You do have the ability to use your router, just not double-NAT is all.

  • Mac Pro does not sleep with lid open

Hi this was the original post I posted a couple days ago.
    "Hi All,
I have had a problem with my mac book pro, it does not sleep while the screen is left open. The way I used to be able to tell if the mac is sleeping is the light on the front should flash as it does when the screen is closed. Here is what has happened in the past.
    1. The original hard drive failed and was replaced with a 500gb
    2. I have had the top case replaced as the mac book pro would not sleep with the screen closed
    3. A clean install with OSX 10.6.8
After doing all this, the mac is still having the same issue.
When the screen is left open, I can hear the fans whirring away and the battery is drained as if I am running an intensive program. I can leave it all night with the screen up and wake up to the battery being completely dead. It usually takes about 3 hours or so. (105 cycles on the battery). The settings are set so that the screen and mac hibernate after 1 minute, and all applications are closed with wi-fi, etc turned off.
When my fathers and my brothers mac book pro is left open, the light on the front of the case flashes.
I have been to the apple store repeatedly and they are adament there is no issue with the mac. They did all their "tests" and the hardware was tested as "good".
    Thanks for any help!
    Chris"
The problem was solved with the following:
    1. Deleting Login Items
    2. Turning off blu-tooth
    3. Unchecking "wake for network access"
    Sources given:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3402
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4167
However, the same problem came back last night.
Any ideas what is causing this?
    Thanks,
    Chris

I forgot to mention that I followed the same instructions that did solve the problem.
    The things I tried were:
    1. turning off wi-fi
    2. closing all apps
Doing this however did not solve my problem either.

  • My Mac Pro does not switch off.

It worked before Lion. Installed 10.7 and also upgraded to 10.7.1 but, on both cases, it does not switch-off. To be precise it "sometimes" switch-off but many times it does not. Let's say once on 15 times... With Leopard I nevere had this problem. (it persists also after a PRAM reset). I also run a second problem but only once and only upgrading to 10.7.1 (not to 10.7). It says that my RAM was on wrong position.. I had to remove and install the RAM again and it worked.
Any other case like this? (This append only on my MacPro - early 2009. On my MacBook and my MacBook Pro OSX Lion works fine).

Is there a pattern to the chimes, or are they simply random, as if the Mac is repeatedly rebooting on its own?
Have you tried a "Safe Boot"? Press and hold a Shift key as you power up the Mac. Does it start then?
If it starts at all "Safe Boot" will take much longer than usual, that's normal. Shutting down will take longer also. Try it.
