Leopard troubles

After updating to OS 10.5 I am having several problems. I can connect to my local internet service. I can get mail. BUT I can not send mail and Safari does not connect to earthlink for internet. Safari will start with no trouble, but as the blue bar gets about 2/3s of the way across it just sits there and never connects. I have let it run for over 40 minutes and it never connects. Also I can not connect to software update. There are a few other things I will not go into, but could my copy of Leopard be flawed and what do I do about it?

Try pop the card into a USB card reader, is that seen?

Because it’s safer: Less risk of your images being lost if your camera shuts down during transfer.

Go to the website for your printer manufacturer and check if there are SL compatible drivers available for your model. This is not an unusual issue, and if the printer's not too old, the updated drivers should be there.
If you can't find one on the manufacturer's site, try Apple Support Downloads and look back through the updates in there; Apple has issued generic updates for a number of printers since SL's release, so you may find one that way.
After installing the new drivers you'll need to setup the printer again.

Here is mine:
Installed fine yesterday. Worked all through the day and most of the night. Then started noticing the beachball. Finally on a restart got the ? Folder. Was able to boot from my clone, but did not have a local hard drive to reclone back??
Tried DW and DU but neither found a volume for me to put my clone back on.
Finally booted to the Leopard disk and am doing a archive install now, do not want to have to reinstall my applications.
Any ideas??

Reinstalled snow leopard, trouble with iPhoto 08

Good morning apple community. Thank you in advance for any help with my issue today. I reinstalled my snow leopard last night and did a time machine restore. Everything seems to be in tact except my iPhoto events. Two events are working but the rest show the event but no picture will come. Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated! Thank you to all of you who solve problems for this community everyday and have a great day ;)

After installing Leopard, trouble with Mail

Get the following error message in "Mail" every view minutes...and keeps putting copy of an e-mail drafts I tried tried to change the address in "On My Mac" folder in "Mail"
I do not have a clue what is going on and how to resolve it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I agree that this could be the issue. But the problem is, Mail will not let me do anything about it. It gives me the dialog over and over because it is trying to do some background IMAP task (that it is unable to do) but does not stop trying to do it long enough for me to, say go into the preferences to change my account settings.
I can access the IMAP account from my web mail so this issue is something corrupted in Mail that it thinks it should be able to access but can't. If you catch my meaning.

Parental Controls causing login to hang

Parental Controls in Leopard - trouble.
I have an iMac G5 (ambient light sensor), 1.8Ghz, 2GB RAM. Previously ran Parental Controls, having one managed account, plus other unmanaged and admin accounts.
I prepared for Leopard upgrade: disabled and stopped all Tiger Parental Controls. Upgraded "in place" to Leopard, applied Parental Controls (all apps allowed, only a whitelist of web sites applied), and BOOM! the managed account gets past login window, but then the beach ball spins,... and spins,..
I took a look at the Console and see that multiple REQUIRED services are terminating with "Permission denied", then bailing and respawning, ad infinitum. Problems are:
ATSServer (Font manager),
pboard (copy & paste manager), and most importantly (I think) is:
UserEventAgent, for allowing system and user events to be handled.
Anyway, infinite loop... the managed user never gets a Desktop. I have gone to 10.5.1, and all other updates. I have disabled File Sharing. I have removed all from the Spotlight list. I have used Disk Utility to Repair File Permissions, a couple of times, actually. All with no effect.
Summary: Turning OFF Parental Controls, the user account gets to the Desktop - all is well; I turn ON Parental Controls and the beachball spins until hard reboot.
Has anybody had it this bad? Why would I think Archive & Install would be any better?
I will paste from the system.log, if it would help. Insight? Observations?

My brand new iMac had a kernel panic the day after it arrived. I went through a long checking procedure which revealed nothing. Only then did I think to read the panic log, not expecting to see any words that meant much. Lo and behold - Parental Controls clearly cited as the culprit!
Because my kids complained that they could not access loads of sites that they always used to (even with Intego's Content Barrier in use on my older mac) I switched off the 'restrict access to adult sites' option but left the time restrictions on. There has not been a repeat of the kernel panic since, although I didn't realise the connection at the time.
Maybe give that a try, assuming you have had that option switched on when you had the crashes?
At this point, I don't think an A&I is going to help much.
Either way, I'm going to feedback to Apple and maybe it will get fixed in the next update.

Applications constantly "quitting unexpectedly"

Where to begin with my Leopard troubles?
Everything I use crashes. Safari, Illustrator, Aperture, Photoshop, iTunes... I have repaired permissions, I have downloaded the update, I've followed numerous troubleshooting guides on other posts.
I'll narrow it down to what I'm experiencing right now with iTunes. Every time I go to delete a track or sync my iPod, it crashes. Every single time.
I am at a complete loss..... Can I just have Tiger back........ please??????

First and foremost back up all your information.
Then boot off the OSX install CD.
Then usually I use the disk utility to erase and repartition the drive.
Install OSX, and you should be in good shape.

Disable 802.11n in 10.5?

It seems that the 802.11n in the MBP performs badly with some access points from random vendors in places I visit routinely, whereas the Core Duo MBP's g card sitting 3 feet away works fine.
Is there a way to force Leopard to fall back to g even if n is available?

I am having the same trouble! And I could NOT find a method on the Mac side to force it down to G.
But at home, I have forced my Wireless router to disable N and use only G.
This seemed to correct/stabilize my Leopard trouble, but at the expense of all the other N machines on the network (4 other PCs)..
It is for sure a Leopard trouble.. Never did I have an issue with Tiger!
APPLE PLEASE FIX THIS STUFF.. IT IS KILLING US!!!! AT LEAST PROVIDE US A WAY TO AFFECT THE TROUBLE!
I, like Djbrashear, would sure like to know how to correct this on the client side, and not have to affect the complete network.
I know this is user to user, but come on.. We are not magicians!

Anyone else had trouble getting RID of Mt Lion? I was shocked to learn that I could NOT run some of my software on it and attempted (with online help) to reinstall SNow Leopard. My computer is now in the hospital! I should have been told beforehand.

I 'upgraded' to Mt Lion over the weekend. It seemed very slow, and sluggish. Within a day I realized also that my Reunion program would not work,
my Quicken would not work, and who knows what else. I kept getting alerts saying that I could not use any PC programs. So, I decided to go back to Snow Leopard - I spent two and a half hours on the phone with two very capable people, then was told that I'd have to take it to an Apple Store. I DO have
extended warranty but a lot of good THAT does! Besides, our nearest store is 160 miles away! So, I took it to our local authorized dealer. It is currently
being worked on, and the minimum will be $189! Fortunately, Time Machine was being backed up by my external hard drive. But, I just received a
call and they can't make my password work to get in! Somehow that has changed back to an old one I don't remember!
MY COMPLAINT: When speaking with a rep about the feasibility of downloading Mt Lion, not ONCE did anyone tell me that I 'might' have these
problems. I NEVER would have upgraded! Now I just want my computer restored to USABLE -

What an unfortunate story.   I hope you will quickly get things back to normal.
To be fair though, there has been quite a lot written about the effects of mountain Lion and the loss of Rosetta, as one example.   I am wondering just how much research you did before buying.
But on the brighter side, you can wipe Mountain Lion and reinstall Snow Leopard with not too much trouble.   It would have been much worse had you bought a new machine with M.L. pre-installed and then found your programs wouldn't work.

Trouble transfering music to iPhone 5 iOS 7.0.6 from iTunes 11.1.5 on Macbook Pro Snow Leopard 10.6.8

I recently fixed my Macbook Pro and updated the software to Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I am having trouble syncing my iPhone with iOS 7.0.6 to my iTunes which is 11.1.5. It gets stuck on step 4 of 4 "Waiting for changes to apply." I've reset sync services and done a lot of research about what I can do to fix the problem to no avail. I would appreciate any help availible.

I had the same issues, reloaded itunes, updated driver, blasted everything out, etc., did everything, short of doing a rain dance. I finally got it to sync by clicking the box "sync only checked songs and videos". It also allowed me to sync books, etc. Good Luck Bwerner25.

I'm having trouble with Snow Leopard server disconnecting. Recently upgraded my laptops to latest MacBook Pro OSX Lion, but everything has been fine since December until now. I did just add a 2TB Drive to the set-up (OWC Mercury Elite AL-Pro) in a Daisy chain of 2 other 2TB drives and a 3TB Drive that had been working perfectly up until now. I was able to use it yesterday, but now it has gone haywire and I lose connections while working on files or saving files. Have to restart server and it works for a while, but then drops off. Could Server be corrupt?

Trouble with Update snow leopard 10.6.8 and 10.6.7

Since one week, I have trouble with snow leopard.
My child has shut down our imac roughly with the on/off button. So after the restart and before the blue screen the display
is frozen with crazy pixel. I have to look for information for a week, tried all the reset (alt cmd P R , reset smc, safe mode etc ...)
After that I' installed all the OSX snow leopard with the DVD with the 10.6 version
This version is ok and the imac works fine but if I'upgrade this version to 10.6.8 with the combo package
I have the same problem : the display is frozen with crazy pixels
And If I' upgrade with the combo package 10.6.7 somme windows are grey and the menu is grey, the apple menu is black
The fonts are bad.
Before all these installation, I perfromed a smc reset, four times nvram reset, erase hard drive and after
that installation of snow leopard.
The Safe Mode works. Hardware test is OK . disk is Ok ( I used the disk utility),permission is OK

Try re-installing the big 10.6.8 Combo...

Repair Permissions afterwords, reboot.
If that doesn't do it, it sounds like a video card problem, have you blown the dust out lately?
Boot off your *original* Install Disk while holding down the *d key*, (not c key), then run the extended Apple Hardware Test. Some disks require you to use the Option key at bootup to select AHT. Some Discs have it inexplicably on Disc #2.

The only unusual aspect to my previous Firefox configuration, was that I installed a NO SCRIPT thing to get past the New York Times paywall — and I don’t understand how to un-install that, assuming that’s the issue --

These MacBook Pros drew more power than the power brick could readily supply, and so would only run at top speed when the power brick was supplemented by the battery.
Though the applicable tech note has been removed, it stated:
"If the battery is removed from a MacBook or MacBook Pro, the computer will automatically reduce the processor speed. This prevents the computer from shutting down if it demands more power than the A/C adapter alone can provide."

HT1338 I have a Leopard desktop 10.5.8 and I have trouble with MAIL. My draft folder does not work and my draft messages will not delete. delete

I have a Leopard desktop 10.5.8 and I have trouble with my Email Apple MAIL draft folder. First of all after I typed my draft and sent to draft, the folder would not open at a later date to send. In all I have 10 messages, mainly test which I cannot delete from my Draft folder.
My draft system is now working but I cannot get rid of the 10 messages which sit in my INBOX and DRAFT folders.
These messages appear in Application - Mail but they will not go.
How do I delete, or is it best to use My Disc 1# and delete all my software and replace with the Disc in order to have a new MAIL program?
Any advice would be welcome.

Not certain, but this can fix myriad Mail problems...
Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), it will try to repair your Disk Directory while the spinning radian is happening, so let it go, run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, then move this folder & file to the Desktop.
Move this Folder to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/
Move this file to the Desktop...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/Envelope Index
Reboot.
If that doesn't do it and you can afford to redo all your Rules, try these & reboot...
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist
/Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail/MessageRules.plist.backup
Note, in 10.5 & up /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/Mail/ may or may not exist.

Which operating system are you running? Not sure, click the apple on the left of the menu bar, the click about this mac. It will say version 10.6.x or 10.7.x.
