Leopard uninstall possible?

Can leopard be uninstalled?
I am not happy with it since the install.
I want it back to the place before the upgrade.
Was that Tiger?
Mike

I'm not very computer savvy, so I may just have to save all the good stuff to DVD/portable harddrive and redo the system.
My computer is going in for service (just three months old) as it is having many difficulties.
Screen goes black, incomplete pages, freeze up of screen about 90% of time, battery lasts less than an hour. Hinge snaps every time it is opened. I brought it in just after I bought it for the same issue, but they said it would be in repair for ten days and at the time I thought that unacceptable. I should have demanded a new computer. The upgrade disc arrived scratched, but I still installed it. I tried getting a new one, but Apple caused puts so many obstacles to deter anything being replaced, that I used it anyways. maybe that was the problem why few things are working right. Now that I have so many files, it might cause me more frustration to move them.
Now, ten days doesn't matter, as it is not working right as it is.
Thanks for the help.
This purchase was a big mistake.
I'll try my best.
Mike

Jumping from 10.3.9 to OS X Leopard. Possible???

Hello. My son bought the latest iPod which only works with Mac OS 10.8 or something, and I've never yet updated from 10.3.9. To make him happy, I bought Leopard last night and it was supposedly installing for at least an hour before I ejected the disc - it was taking too long (or was it?).
Folks, I'm no techie, just a graphic artist whom loves his MAC.
What am I doing wrong? Should I have more patience? Or should I have been updating all along the line to get to Leopard? It was already past 9PM and I just missed out on calling support, so any and all help appreciated. Thanks!
    SteveR

Updating takes more than an hour no matter what version you already have. Ejecting the disk during installation is not a good idea.
If possible, install Leopard on a different partition or hard drive so that you can keep working in your current version in case something goes wrong. When Leopard is stable and well-behaved (perhaps not until after a few months of fixes by Apple and you updating your other software to Leopard-compatible versions), then you can back up all your user files, clone Leopard onto your main startup drive and copy back your user files afterward.

  • KEYBOARD NOT WORKING LEOPARD UPDATE POSSIBLE CODING ERROR??

having read through all threads concerning this issue of internal MBP keyboards not working after installing leopard, and comparing to my own experience, it seems that everyone started having this problem soon after they must have downloaded the 1st software update to leopard.
my MBP's keyboard currently does not work. How am I typing you ask?
With the new apple USB aluminum keyboard. My boyfriend has it for his mac mini.
Because all these keyboard problems are new and happening to everyone now, we have to assume this is related to the leopard update. They JUST released the aluminum keyboard around the same time they released leopard, so they probably had bugs with the usb aluminum keyboard and had to make some kind of change in the code with how leopard relates with keyboard input. so, it's most likely a coding error and we are at the mercy of apple for a freaking software update ASAP. Don't erase and install - because that will just take you back before the update, and then after you update your software again, it will happen again and your keyboard will crash. I updated my software yesterday and almost immediately started having this issue. my MBP is a week old and i had no issues before this with the keyboard until the update.
The best thing we can do at this point is FLOOD APPLE WITH PHONE CALLS. We paid upwards of $3000 for a computer - holding down a key and messing with text edit is NOT acceptable.
These are NOT solutions. Every time your keyboard stops working, and holds you up from doing your work, CALL THEM.
That's what we think is happening...maybe something more severe is happening and we're wrong. but, hopefully, this is all it is and they will FIX IT as soon as possible because it's really annoying.

Is anyone else running vmware or parallels?
I had both installed at different times and realized that for whatever reason the kernel extensions for both were installed on my machine. I downloaded both from their respective website and ran the full uninstall.
As of this moment my (then-persistent) keyboard issues are gone. I am not positive this was the solution as I just might not have had the problem yet (as they tended to be very sporadic), but it might be a good test if anyone else is using either of those software suites.
If you open a terminal window and type kextstat, you will be shown a full report of kernel extensions that exist on your machine. Towards the bottom of the list parallels and/or vmware will be listed if they are installed.
Hope this helps. Though I am still wondering if Leopard is the problem.

  • Installed OSX 10.7Lion. Quicken not compatable. Is uninstall possible?

Just upgraded to OSx Lion 10.7 and find that Quicken 2007 won't open as Lion does not support it. Quicken advises that it does not yet have Quicken for Lion but is working on it.  Meantime I am stuck as I use Quicken all the time.  I am wondering if it is possible to uninstall Lion using the Snow Leopard install CD.  At present, Lion is a disaster and I'd like to get rid of it and go back to Snow Leopard.  Apple really screwed up with this one.

Well I guess it is all in the beholder.  I did a free trial of iBank and found it to be incompatible with most financial institutions.  The only why you can obtain your banking/investment account information is to export it from those companies web base site.  I'm not the most sophisticated financial person, but I have found Essentials to handle my needs well.  One click on the update icon and all 8 of my accounts are update.

  • XDCAM inporting with Snow Leopard not possible?

I installed Snow Leopard on my Mac Pro. I'm going to buy a SONY PDW-F350 XDCAM professsional videocamera, but I know read on video-related forums that the transfer plugin that allows to ingest videoclips from an XDCAM-disk Final into Cut Pro does not work with Snow Leopard and that an update is not foreseen until March 2010. I can hardly put my whole business on hold until then. Does anyone know a solution?

sorry - you download the clip browser and final cut pro plug in from the Sony website, just enter Sony XDCam Clip Viewer or Final Cut Pro plug into the search engine to find.

  • Snow Leopard Software Possible?

I know someone who has a 2007 MacBook with the 10.4.11. It won't update anymore. So I am assuming that in order for it to update, you need to buy the new software. How would buying the Snow Leopard software and installing it affect the computer.
She mainly wants to have the MacApp Store and was wondering if buying the Snow Leopard would allow the computer to update and download the MacApp store. Can anyone tell me if it would insure the download of the MacApp store or what else it would download or update?

  • Trial version, is a clean uninstall possible?

I tried the trial version (Japanese) of Acrobat 8. After I finished the trial period and uninstalled it, it left a lot of stuff behind.
Now I have problems printing from Reader (v.7, English, with Japanese fonts also installed). Random characters are missing, and the missing ones are different each time.
Also, Reader will no longer open up in the browser (IE6.1) when I click on a pdf file on the internet.
These things worked before. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling Reader, but things do not get better. I can only assume that, among the junk left behind by the trial version, that there is something that is now interfering with the operation of Reader.
Is there a way to get rid of all the junk that the dirty uninstall of the trial version left behind?
    Thanks

Hi. I looked at that, but it is only for XP and Vista. I'm still on W2k, so I couldn't use that. (Acrobat seems to be the only program from Adobe now which will run on W2k).
I did find some info in the knowledgebase about uninstalling Acrobat Standard and Reader by hand. I've done what I could, although I haven't gotten around to re-installing Reader yet.
However, before I uninstalled Reader 7, I have checked printing on this and another computer, using various files. I can say this:
    - no problem with the printer
    - no problem printing with other applications on this computer
    - no problem printing old PDF files made by other people (manuals and such) on this computer with Reader 7 (the version I just uninstalled).
    - no problem printing PDF files which I made on this computer using either the trial version of Acrobat 8, or PDFCreator, on the other computer, using the same version of Reader 7
    - the only problem is printing those PDF files made on this computer, using either the trial version of Acrobat 8 or PDFCreator, on this computer.
Conclusion: It has to have something to do with the junk that was left behind. Something on this computer is messing up the printing from Reader, but only for PDF files made on this computer.
Whether I can solve this by uninstalling manually, I don't know yet.
I don't know what to think of this, except that I am not at all impressed.

  • Snow Leopard Instability - Possibly To Do With WD and Lacie FW Drives

I have an early 2009 2,66gHz Mac Pro. 7GB Ram.
At some point it got incredibly unstable running 10.6.4 (and earlier SL versions).
I've tried running it with stock RAM. Same issue. Tried clean re-installing. Same issue.
I post this here because I have the exact same system running on an iMac (cloned) - and it works fine with all my firewire drives so this must only affect certain (older?) machines.
I have read a lot of the "general instability" threads concerning SL and they seem all to have issues as diverse as mine; basically this is what happens for me:
I boot the machine and it works fine until a certain *key event* makes everything wonky. At this point, all these seemingly random issues pop up.
Such as, but not limited to:
The finder will crash and then give that darned "could not be relaunched -10601" error.
Most things to do with saving/exporting will fail and crash the corresponding app.
    Toast will not launch.
AFP Server becomes unresponsive, as does screen sharing.
    Opera will crash.
Disk Utility will crash on launch.
iTunes will crash, then fail to relaunch "checking library" then beachball.
I have tried to identify this *key event* because it might help the apple engineers get this fixed.
It seems sometimes to be something to do with Quicktime-based operations. Clicking around in Disk utility is also a good way of making it hang. It never happens spontaneously without user input. There is always something I click, that starts the whole thing off, although the trigger is generally very diverse. A friend of mine has the same issue, and he says he can always trigger it by re-scanning AU units (?) in Logic.
Once you have reached "Firewire ****" the machine needs to be hard-reset. A reboot gets as far as the blue screen with the spinning wheel. I don't know if it goes on spinning forever because I don't have forever to wait, but it does not reboot within 20min. If there are no firewire drives attached, none of this ever happens. I have a 2TB DualDrive FW800 WD and a 2TB Lacie which is also FW800.
Now I'm trying to identify which one of the two FW drives is responsible, and I will post back with results. I shall also try FW400. They are both brand new drives by the way.
I swear this is going to make a little vein in my frontal lobe go pop pretty soon.

  • Snow Leopard Server possibly sending out spam

    Hi Everyone-
I have the option checked in Server Admin to send an account on my server a copy of all the undeliverable mail. This morning, I wake up and there's 400+ new emails from Mail Delivery Subsystem saying things like Mail timed out.
My server isn't setup as a relay and I require authentication, but it seems like I'm sending out spam email. The email is coming from [email protected], even though there's no account with that email address.
    Here's a sample out of mail.log:
    Apr 22 17:44:49 mail postfix/smtp[21153]: DA72E115D4C: to=<[email protected]>, relay=none, delay=34129, delays=34098/0.05/30/0, dsn=4.4.1, status=deferred (connect to lycos.com.my[216.8.179.23]:25: Operation timed out)
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Spam mail is still being sent. Web service is off. There is no user alias or user for "Paypal".

  • Can't install Snow Leopard on MacBook Pro - DVD won't mount

I am unable to install Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro as the DVD won't mount.  This is an early 2008 vintage MacBook Pro, intel core duo...
I'm using a OS X Snow Leopard install DVD (family licensed).  This DVD has been used to install 3 other Macs in my house without a problem (about a year ago), but cannot be used to upgrade my MBP.  Actually, this disk mounted on the MBP exactly once - inserted with system up, the disk mounted.  Upon running the installed (a year ago), the computer restarted but hung in boot.  After getting the disk ejected and the computer restarted, the disk would never mount again.  I've defered upgrade for a year but at this point need to upgrade my MBP at least to Snow Leopard and possibly Lion.
The problem doesn't seem to be with the DVD, since it continues to mount fine in other computers, and in fact a borrowed Snow Leopard DVD also will not mount on the MBP.
BUT ... the problem also does not seem to be with the optical drive in my computer, as it can read & mount the install/restore disks that came with the computer as well as other CDs and DVD ROMs.  Only the Snow Leopard install DVDs fail to mount.
I've also tried mounting the 10.6 install DVD on my Mac Pro desktop, making it available over the network (ethernet) with DVD/CD sharing.  I can mount the remote disk from my MBP that way, but when I launch the installer, the application launches (its own menus are displayed, I can quit from menu, for example) but does nothing -- no windows open, nothing.
I've also tried "Remote Install" (again with the DVD made available with the Remote Install MacOS X application on my desktop), but when I boot the MBP with option held down, the remote disk is not available as a startup disk.
Zapping the PRAM did not help.
Am off to the store to get an optical drive cleaning kit and a blank DVD big enough to burn a new disk image, but would appreciate any further ideas at this point....

Solution that worked: Copy the Install DVD to a USB flash drive and boot from that.

Up and running with Snow Leopard now and working on the updates.

  • Upgrade from Panther to Tiger or Panther to Leopard

I'm operating a Powerbook 15" with a 1.33 G4 and 256MB RAM. I believe the specs for Leopard call for 512MB RAM. The question I have is, am I better off going with Leopard and upgrading the RAM or should I just go with Tiger and upgrade the OS?
A little background to help...I'm upgrading my OS more out of necessity (very quickly, everything is becoming incompatible with Panther -- like Flash, TurboTax, etc.). I don't want to upgrade to Tiger tomorrow and find myself in need of Leopard next week...if that makes sense.
    Thoughts?

Upgrade the RAM regardless of which OS you install. Personally, I prefer Tiger because some of the apps I use regularly are still not yet compatible with Leopard and possibly never will be. I also had performance issues the first time installed Leopard, but after a couple of reinstalls I found the install process made a lot of difference to the performance of the install. My conclusion, Leopard is like that little girl who had a little curl right in the middle of her forehead. When she was good she was very good, but when Leopard is bad it is horrid.

  • German version of Leopard US Macbook Pro

Does anyone know if a German version of Leopard will work on US purchased Mac Book?
Well, I guess my question more specifically is if I install the German version will it only be available in German language to use. I know that you can change the language of your mac regardless where you buy it, so if I install a German version of Leopard theoretically I should be able to use it, but convert the language to English in the system preferences.... Is this correct?

There is no "German Version" of Leopard (except possibly for packaging). OS X is exactly the same no matter where it is sold. You can always change its language among the 18 listed in its tech specs in a few seconds via system preferences/international/languages.

  • Power PC G5 / Leopard Epson R1800 - back to Tiger???

I just bought a r1800 and like a fool I installed Leopard the night before. It will print but I need to align the nozzles. I can not - although the machine knows the printer is there the utility option is dimmed. from the epson utilities - (3.09) no printer shows at all - I did a test from the controls on the front of the printer and it showed some empty areas so I think if I can fix this I might be in business. I am waiting for the next e from Epson - I can't get it to work from my Macbook either and that is running 10.4.
Any thoughts on a Leopard uninstall in the mean time?
Meanwhile I have prints with a pink tint and lines - worthless -
    Thanks!!!!

I also have the Epson Stylus Photo R1800. Everything appears to be working just fine.
Have you tried running the Epson Printer Utility2 Application? This allows you to do all of the typical printer maintenance (align print heads, check ink levels, do nozzle checks, cleaning, etc.)
Also, have you downloaded Epson's Easy Print software for the R1800? It was released on 11/08/07 for OSX 10.5.
Give these a try, and hopefully you will be working once again.

  • Will PE6 run on Snow Leopard 10.6.3?

Will Photoshop elements 6 run on Snow Leopard 10.6.3??? My current iMac has Leopard and PE6 ran fine but I will be updating it to snow leopard and possibly mountain lion at a later date.

Officially the answer is NO.  See this article:
    <http://forums.adobe.com/message/4527508#4527508?promoid=KBGZT>
Unofficially it might be possible but I don't use anything other than Windows so I have to stick with the official answer.
    Good luck.

  • Leopard Mail side panel look

I'm waiting for 10.5.1 (or a new MBPro), but I'm trying to learn as much about Leopard as possible in the meantime.
Looking at screenshots of Mail, I see "Reminders" and "RSS" is always there. These are new features so I can understand that, but can I turn them off?
I prefer to use iCal for reminders and to-dos, and Safari for RSS. The way my sidebar is configured, I have Inbox, Draft and Sent, followed by all my mailboxes and for which there is just enough room when Inbox and Sent are collapsed.
My question: Will I be able to keep Reminders and RSS out of there?
    Thanks!
