Leopard wifi issue: subnet mask?

I have the common Leopard wifi problem:
4 computers, all linked to new Airport Extreme with 10.4
3 of 4 link with Leopard.
Have tried all suggestions to fix the problem with the IMac G5 that won't link.
Always says that the iMac has self-assigned IP and can not connect
Noted that when the problematic machine does rarely link, Subnet Mask is 255.255.255.0
Same with all linking machines.
When doesn't link, subnet mask is 255.255.0.0.
Does this give any hint as to the problem.

This might not be related, but you could try changing the DNS settings in your Router to use OpenDNS instead of the number automatically set by your ISP. You just need to manually enter the 2 numbers:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
There are good instructions on the OpenDNS website. It's worth trying just to see if it solves your problem:

  • My wifi network connection is not working, will read "unable to join". Am able to access as a guest.  When I hit the blue arrow on the right hand side of my network there is no information e.g ip address, subnet mask, etc.  This info is in my guest area.

My network has not been working today.  When I click on it it says "unable to access nhe network".  My guest network will work.  When I hit the blue arrow on the right hand side of my network there is no information in the IP address, subnet mask, router, etc.  There is information in my guest section when I checked. I have unplugged and replugged my router and turned my Wifi button of and off, started and restarted my Ipod as per internet suggestions.  Would anyone know how to get my network reactivated.  I am nervous to hit reset network settings in case I lose all my music and icons, etc. added since I got my Ipod.  Thank you for any assistance

    Do other devices now connect?
    Did the iPod connect before?
What encryption/security is the router using?
    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on the router
    - Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

  • C7-00 wifi subnet mask changes automatically

    Hi,
I am facing a problem in my c7 that it wifi subnet mask is changing automatically even if i set it manually.
    thanks

    no open apps ...
I did a bit of testing today and discovered, that the connection doesn't close, only when I exit OVI Store (this happens with WLAN and also with 3G/UMTS connection).
When I exit any other app (e.g. Browser, Opera, ...) the connection closes automatically after I have closed down the app.
So this must have something to do with the OVI Store, probably with the new version as I cannot remember to have experienced this until some days ago.

  • Ipad is showing connected to wifi but it is saying its not connected to internet.  I have reset all settings, tried to change IP address and subnet mask and nothing is working.

My ipad mini 3 is not showing that it is connected to the wifi, but it is saying it is not connected to the internet.  I have reset network settings and then reset all settings and it has not worked.  I have tried to change it to static and change the IP address and the subnet mask and that is not working either.  I have also tried to use the wifi in different places and that doesn't work either.  Please help!!!!  iPad is useless without the internet.

    1. Set router back to Auto DHCP.
    2. Turn off router for 30 seconds and on again.
    3. Re-boot iPad.

  • I have a WiFi home connection. It works on my laptop but has stopped working on my iPad, which I tried resetting but it didn't help. It recognises the SSID but then asks for IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router etc. Any ideas on what to do?.

  • Iphone 4 wifi Issues

I have searched everywhere and i cannot find an answer for my wifi issues.
I have an iphone 4 and am using a belkin n+ router. Sometimes when i wake my iphone from sleep mode the internet doesnt work. It shows i am connected to the wifi on the iphone. Under settings it gives me the ip address, subnet mask, and dns. I even pull safari up and try to access my router (192.168.1.1) and that doesnt respond. The quick and easy fix is to turn off wifi and turn on wifi on the iphone, but thats a pain in the butt if your doing it 20 times a day.
I have seen several posts on this issue and solutions but none have worked for me. This is what I have done so far, please let me know if I am missing something.
-routers firmware is up to date
-went from dual band (2.4,5ghz) to singal band (2.4ghz)
    -set up a static ip
    -used dhcp
-click "reset network settings" on the iphone"
-I have the latest iphone firmware.
    -My SSID is no hidden
    -I am using WPA2
I think thats all i have troubleshooted. Also I have 8 other wifi devices connected to my network and have no issues what so ever with the rest of them, just the iphone.

I just wish this would be fixed. Anyone have any solutions?

  • The subnet mask on the Extreme isn't the same as on the Express.

    Dear Group,
I have my Extreme configured to do PPPoE and DHCP and my DSL modem is setup as bridged. Everything is finally working well. I have an Express extending the Extreme in a WDS.
When I look at the PPPoE tab in the Internet tab of the Extreme in AirPort Utility it shows a subnet mask of 255.255.255.255, but the Internet tab of the Express shows 255.255.255.0.
I don't have any problems at all and wireless clients are connected to the Extreme and the Express.
Is the Extreme's subnet mask part of my DSL connection and therefore a different subnet mask?
Not sure, but I'd like to make sure that I don't have something setup incorrectly.
    Thanks,
    Frank

This really isn't an issue as long as the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) is providing a working Internet connection. Since the AEBS is using PPPoE to connect to your ISP I'm not sure that the subnet mask is even used.
The subnet value of 255.255.255.0 used by the AirPort Express (AX) is typical.

  • Ipad2 wifi issue - with diagnostic info

Just received my new iPad 2 straight from Apple last night. Came with 4.3.5 preinstalled. Was tearing my hair out over connectivity issues until I found that turning off the WEP or WPA or WPA2 - i.e. turn off all security - "fixes" it.
So tonight I spent some time trying things with the iPad 2 and a monitor on the router.
If ANY type of security is turned on, then the router sees the iPad 2 connect, but shows it as having the IP of "0.0.0.0". If I try to enter a static IP, this makes no change at the router, and there is no obvious change at the iPad 2. If instead I try to use DHCP, then the iPad 2 initially shows nothing. If I renew lease I then show an IP of "169.254.176.38" and a subnet mask of "255.255.255.0", although the router still sees it as 0.0.0.0.
Once I turn off security, then DHCP works. HOWEVER, if I try to setup a Static IP it STILL does DHCP as evidenced by the fact that disconnecting and reconnecting the iPad gets an IP address that is NOT the one I have put in with the Static IP.
Since it works without dropping with security turned off, I doubt this is a hardware issue. I am wondering if "fixing" certificates in 4.3.5 broke something else?

I have three different routers by three different manufacturers (TrendNet, Linksys, and Cradlepoint) that are all showing the same behavior. So I find it a little hard to believe that the iPad is fine, and all three of these (which work fine with my iPad 1, a couple of iPhones, and a couple desktop computers) somehow are broken?
Oh, and all three are on their latest firmware.
    Any other suggestions?

  • Macbook Pro Snow Leopard; WiFi keeps dropping, no IP Address

Macbook Pro Snow Leopard; WiFi keeps dropping. Issue is Macbook is not getting an IP address from the wireless routers DHCP Server. Tried all options in the forums. Reboot, changing security, PRAM reset .. nothing. Problem keeps happening. No issues on XP laptops and Nokia phones.
Even the iPhone, iPod and iPad seems to be fine. It is just the dang gam it Macbook pro and it is driving me crazy.
All fixes tried, changing wireless mode, security, PRAM ... only thing left is to rebuild the mac which i was hoping I can avoid somehow.
Any ideas to fix this would be great!

Change your router channel.  Sometimes this all you will have to do.
    System Preferences/Internet & Network/Network
    Unlock the padlock
    Locations:  Automatic
    Highlight Airport
    Click the Assist Me button
In the popup window click the Diagnostic button.
System Preferences/Network- Unlock padlock.  Highlight Airport.  Network Name-select your name.  Click on the Advanced button.  Airport/Preferred Networks-delete all that is not your network.
Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined."  Click the OK button and lock the padlock.  Restart your computer.
http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1920 Mac OS: How to release and renew a DHCP lease
    No internet connection (wireless)
Check to see if an extra entry is present in the DNS Tab for your wireless connection (System Preferences/Network/Airport/Advanced/DNS).
Delete all extra entries that you find.
Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined."

  • Ip address & subnet mask !

I have recently encountered a problem with my system and the assigned IP Address and was not sure why. I have a wireless connection on the iMac with it setup to get the IP address automatically but the system gets the wrong subnet mask every time. It gets (255.255.0.0) the correct subnext mask in the other mac's is (255.255.255.0). Where is it getting the inappropriate address and why does it didn't assign the correct one!!

Are you sure that both these macs are getting IP addresses from the same place? (1 wired, 1 wireless...might mean that mac2 is getting neighbor's wifi)
Are you certain that this trouble mac is configured to be fully Automatic in the NetworkSystemPreferences?
"Conigure IPv4...Using DHCP" ( not manually, not dhcp with manual address, not bootP...)
Have you done a cold start to all your network devices (macs, router, modem, network printers?)
Power-cycle them off. Count 2 minutes. Start up modem, pause. Start up router/BaseStation, pause. Start up mac(s).
You haven't said what kind of router/baseStation you've got. 'Twould help, maybe.
added: Do you have a wireless modem/router AND a wireless airportBS/router/something)?

  • Airport 802.11g and WIFI issues with Apple bluetooth keyboard

Hey guys, this thing start to drive me crazy, I bought a Apple BT keyboard but just recently I started to having problems with my wifi connection and apparently I think this is due to the BT keys.
I started to notice this issue when I moving with the laptop in another room where usually I had maximum Airport signal, now it's happening that the signal start to lose power and when is just to the minimum, internet or other net staff don't work anymore and after 5 minutes of this apparently "freeze" wifi status, the airport loose definitely the signal.
After that I need to turn off the Airport card, most of the time work but sometimes i need to turn off two times to get it works.
After I read different blogs and forum, I tried to change channel, use the interference robustness, anything, and at the ending I reinstalled Leo, still have this problem, so I started to turn off the bluetooth connection and it look's like when the signal start to lose power the network keep working, and than reprise the maximum power.
So I can really fix this issue or is another "well done" by Apple? It look's like the Apple industry getting so close to the trash world! I'm sorry for these last words but my disappointed in Apple getting bigger.
    Thank you for anyone helps.
P.S. a friend of mine with a Macbook Pro, Snow Leopard and my same Airport Base station have the same issue.

GuyI just fixed for now the problem turning off the bluetooth keyboard when I have wifi issues, it's the only solutions!

  • RV130 router : Unable to modify LAN subnet mask

    Hi every one,
I'm using a cisco router RV130, which runs the latest firmware (1.0.1.3), and when
I set an IP address to the LAN interface, I can't choose the subnet mask greater than /24.
The scrolling list proposes only these values :
    255.255.255.0
    255.255.255.128
    255.255.255. .. and so on to 255.255.255.252
The issue is that the customer's lan address is 172.17.0.0/16 (255.255.0.0)
    Any clue ?
    Thierry

  • Presentationser won't start after subnet-mask change

After changing the subnet mask (in order to be able to connect to the server remotely), the 'Oracle BI Presentation Server' service (sawsvc) will not start anymore.
Eventlog shows: The Oracle BI Presentation Server service terminated with service-specific error 4294967295 (0xFFFFFFFF).
Can anyone help me out, what I have to alter, in order to make things work again?
After updating the host file I am able to connect to the database, so sqlplus and OBIEE administrator work. It is analytics that will not run anymore because of the service that will not start.
thank you for any help you can give,

Thanks for letting the community know.
The behavior described is usually related to issues with the startup files used to boot Windows. However, this could be one of the outliers.
HP units are usually pretty good about detecting incompatible memory and won't get as far as it is getting.
In the mean time, it certainly wouldn't hurt to try the steps listed while waiting for them to arrive.
