Leopard will not allow port enabling?

I had upgraded to Leopard recently and found that Leopard does not have procedures to enable specific ports like under Tiger.
I have set my Firewall to "Essential Services Only" and now I can not sync with my aTV. It say that I need to enable port 3689 and if I was in Tiger, I could do that under the Firewall preference. Now, with Leopard, I can not enable specific ports. Does anyone know how to enable ports or if it is even possible under Leopard?
Thanks,
Tony

Opening specific ports in leopard is indeed possible, just not user friendly. For the moment there are least two apps (freeware) that will do the job nicely. It can of course be accomplished with terminal commands as well. I know, you just can't wait to dive in and start typing terminal commands.... but, just in case you might want a use a GUI, here are couple links to "Noobproof" and "Waterroof":

You do not need to disable your Leopard's firewall to use these apps as they will work in conjunction with it.

I have the WRT620N router and an HP MediaSmart server connected to it.  My source is a cable modem.  WHen I try to set up the server for remote access, the router is not found.  I am continually getting "Port Forwarding failed" errors from the server.  I also have several iPhone apps used to control devices on the network (DVR, BluRay player, etc) that will not connect.  (These worked before I changed to this router.)

If no, then Enable Remote Management Access under Administration tab and then check.

  • Snow Leopard machine will not allow anyone log in until reboot

    Hi,
I am having trouble with my Snow Leopard machines (Mac Pro with 10.6.8). Most of time Macs will work fine but then all of sudden they will not allow any users to login (Not even local users). I have tried 3 locals accounts and root account as well but none of them will work. I have tried ARD to remote in but it will not work. Also tried to use SSH but it won't let me connect.
The only work around this issue which I have just to reboot that machine then all users can login.
Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
When I see the machine sitting at login screen and I try to login using few different accounts (Local, AD, even root), it would shake and not go anywhere.
It will be really hard tell that something is goin on with that machine because there is no visible signs of any trouble until you try to login.
I am assuming that it should let login using local accounts even though there might be an issue with network which would cause a problem if AD accounts are used but nothing works at that login prompt, until I restart that machine.
Once the machine is re-booted then I can login with all the local accounts and re-check the active diretory settings to make sure that AD accounts can login. At this point problem will disappear for a while then few days later it will show up again randomly on different machines.
I have done all the OS X updates on all the machines using ARD but nothing seems to be working yet.
At this stage, couple of things come to mind:
Something went wrong with that lab image and I need to rebuild it which I will do it at later time. For right now I am only looking for temporary fix.
Using ARD, I have only done OS X updates but not the firmware update which might be causing this issue.
@Sanjampet: - I don't think that there is an issue with my password becasue it seems to be working after I have restarted that machine.
    Thanks,

  • Our IT Director will not allow the appropriate TCP and UDP ports to be opened on the district WAN

I have about 30 Apple TV Units and our IT Director will not allow the appropriate TCP and UDP ports to be opened on the district WAN.  When our teachers try to log on to Apple TV to broadcast lessons, websites, etc., they are booted off the network after about 20 minutes.
Any ideas for how I might solve this without having to hard-wire the Apple TV Units?

    Honestly, you do not.
Either the IT director will cave and allow the appropriate ports or it doesn't work.
Hard wiring the ATVs will not rectify the problem.

My MBA will not allow me to use both usb ports at the same time. as soon as i plug the second in the first is disabled. trying to use a modem and printer.

What kind of peripherals are you connecting? Sometimes if an external device is drawing too much power, then it will shut down one of the USB ports. Make a test connecting two usb flash drives, it should work ok.

  • Time Capsule will not allow new Port Mapping

Set up a new time capsule, did not migrate setting from old just in case I needed it for a backup,
Gave the new time capsule the same name and all other information, just as the original to clone it.
With the exception of all the port mappings;  system allowed me to setup "Personal Web Sharing, IMAP Mail, IMAP Mail with SSL, POP Mail, SMTP Mail and Apple Remote Desktop, but will not allow me to add any others with names like, Kerio Workspace, VPN, SSL Web, some have the same Private IP as the allowed port mappings and other have different ones.
    what am I doing wronge?

Loads.. one of them being vpn passthrough having issues due to the TC using IPSEC internally for BTMM.
You might find this is not possible to fix.. but make sure the TC is not double NAT.
If you have another router in the network the TC must be in bridge.. but if the TC is the main router and no double NAT you might need to replace it with something less Apple!! Something that tells you by logs and SNMP what is going on.. and keep the TC bridged for TM backups and wireless..

my iPhone 4S running IOS8.1.2 will not allow me to enable Location Services. Wherever I check it is "grayed out". advice?

    Hey AUABB,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you're not able to enable Location Services on your iPhone 4s, first restart the device:
Restart or reset your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
Next, try resetting the location settings on the device to factory default:
If you would like to reset all of your location settings to the factory default, go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset Location & Privacy. When your location and privacy settings are reset, apps will stop using your location until you grant them permission.
Understanding privacy and Location Services on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch with iOS 8 - Apple Support
If the Location Services option is still grayed out, you may need to back up your iPhone and restore the iOS software using iTunes:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support
    All the best,
    Jeremy

  • AE with inbound SIP and RTP over UDP - Will not open ports

I am using a Linksys SPA962 IP Phone via an Airport Express with the latest firmware connecting to an Asterisk PBX (http://www.asterisk.org) over the internet. I may make outbound calls and have my incoming and outgoing audio over RTP with the appropriate UDP ports no problem. But, when I receive an inbound call, I get the SIP INVITE no problem, but the AE refuses to open those RTP ports. I have NAT keep alive at 15 seconds.
Now, I have tried almost every combination. Enabling NAT-PMP forwarding to all of the appropriate IP/Ports, turning it off (really should not be necessary with keep alive on register with the Asterisk). I am stumped, it is almost as of AE does not like UDP for inbound. I have others using Linksys routers with a similar configuration working inbound and outbound no problem.
I am stumped. Ideas? Chuck the AE in the bin?

    I Googled up the following:
    http://lists.apple.com/archives/Macnetworkprog/2006/Jul/msg00040.html
    I am having this issue:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=7256265#7256265
Are all these things the same issue?
My ISP "tells me" that they will not allow more than one IP address per account. I have a basic cable modem i.e. not a router. Its a D-Link DCM-202. I have been told to try a level-2 switch but I can't see how that will work. As far as I can see the DCM-202 cable modem is bridging to my AEBS so that is allocated the WAN IP address by the ISP's DHCP server. Does this sound right?
I'd like to create an actual DMZ but since my cable modem only has one port I can't see how I can do that unless I use 2 routers. If I try this I am expecting that I'd have complicated port forwarding configurations no?

What model iMac do you have?
What version of Mac OS is it running? If you don't know, try to give approximations on when it was set up and whether it was ever updated so we can take our best guess.
How are you trying to boot from the install disc? Your description of 3 icons with x in a column' leads me to believe that you aren't booting from the install disc, but rather you are inserting the disc after booting from the OS that is installed on the hard drive. If that is what is happening you'll see something like this, although it will vary depending on the actual version of the Install Disc that you have and how you've chosen to view the files (icon, list, column, etc).
What happens if you restart the system with the Install Disc inserted, then quickly hold down the 'c' key so that the system attempts to boot from the Install Disc. Do you still experience the same issue?

  • I have an iMac, and have a Verizon DSL account. Recently, my Mac Mail keeps requesting the passwords on my account every few minutes, and will not allow me to send messages using Mac Mail. I cannot edit the outgoing server; how can I send emails?

I have an iMac, and have a Verizon DSL account (3 email addresses). Recently, my Mac Mail keeps requesting the passwords on my accounts every few minutes, and will not allow me to send messages using Mac Mail (the message says that the outgoing server was rejected. I cannot edit the outgoing server, and the keychain will not save my passwords (the ports are valid). How can I change the outgoing server to send emails, and how can I avoid having Mail request my passwords every 2 minutes? Verizon, as usual, will not provide support to iMacs.

Is there an email saved in your drafts or outbox folder?  I suspect that Mail is continually trying to send it, and each time Google is rejecting the email message.
You can open the message and then delete it from your Outbox folder.  Then try removing all @gmail email addresses from it and seeing whether you can send to the other folks.  I suspect that will work.
With email, if an SMTP server *can* verify email addresses, sometimes it will and it will refuse to send messages.  If a message has to be relayed across servers, no verification is done, and you'll get a bounce if an email address is bad.

  • When I replaced my PC desktop with a Mac Mini and hooked up my HP printer to it, I discovered my other computers on the Wi-Fi network could no longer access the printer.  The manual says Maverick OS will not allow PC's to access the printer. Any thoughts?

When I replaced my PC desktop with a Mac Mini and hooked up my HP printer to it, I discovered that my other computers on the Wi-Fi network could no longer access the printer.  The manual says Maverick OS will not allow PC's to share the printer. Does anyone else have this problem?  My printer does not have on-board Wi-Fi but, otherwise, works fine.  I shouldn't have to buy a new one.  Is there a OS patch out there that would open the printer port for my PC computers?

I'm assuming that on the Mac, the System Preferences -> Sharing -> Printer Sharing -> [X] HP printer -> Everyone can print is selected?  That is to say, the Mac will allow anyone to print using the printer, and that you did not try to restrict who can print.
How is your network configured?  Bonjour as a protocol will NOT cross a router boundary.  If you have 2 or more subnets active with the PCs on one subnet and the Mac on another, that would block the PCs from seeing the Mac.
You could have multiple subnets if you have more than one router, such as an ISP provided broadband modem/router and another WiFi Router.  If the PCs are talking to one router and the Mac is talking to another, that could be a 2 subnet situation.  The additional routers must be put into bridge mode, which is done differently depending on the router.  But the basics are to diable DHCP and NAT services on the secondary router(s) having just one active router on the network.
Also, using Bonjour Browser on my Mac, it is showing me that the printer is being advertised as using Internet Printing Protocol, so if that is something selectable on Windows, maybe you can bypass Bonjour on Windows.
