Leopard & working with Expose/spaces

I saved all my Design applications in spaces (6 all together).
When I shut down the computer they all disappeared!
If the computer is in sleep mode, no problem.
Question. Is there a way to save spaces before a shutdown?.
It is a task to configure them all & have to reset them!
thank you for feedback & an answer! Lindsay Boutet

Is it possible to create a network with the Leopard macbook and Tiger iMac?
Yes. Start File Sharing from the Sharing pane of System Preferences on one computer, and use the Connect to Server command in the Finder's Go menu or the Network item on the other computer to access it.

  • Will Boot Camp in leopard work with 64 bit Windows Vista Ultimate?

I installed Boot Camp beta in Tiger. Then I installed the 64 bit version of windows Vista Ultimate. Many drivers were not installed such as the keyboard mapping driver. I bought Leopard. Should the version of Boot Camp in Leopard work with the 64 bit Windows Vista Ultimate or would I probably encounter the same driver problems? Should I delete the Windows partition before upgrading to Leopard and then install the 32 bit version of Windows Vista Ultimate for all the drivers to work properly?
    Please advise what to do.
Thank you very much in advance.

    Hi,
since the 'new' BootCamp 2.0 also only includes Driver support for the 32-bit Windows versions, you will get a 2nd Encounter.
Is there a specific reason for you to use the 64-bit versions, apart from maybe the 4GB RAM 'issue' ?
Installing the 32-bit version and then the Drivers from the OSX DVD should give you all the drivers needed.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Will Leopard work with my 667 TiBook?

Will Leopard work with my 667 powerbook? Will it be too slow and pig out? or is it going to be alright? I'm hoping to get a newer MAcbook Pro sometime mid year but I'd like to be current althogh I've never gone to Tiger. I love Tiger it's in my iMac at home.

Hi, Looter. I read your caveat. Questions about iPods are much more likely to be answered usefully in the iPod forums than here, so if you're interested in advice from anyone besides Sevenfish who may be able to help solve your problem, that's where to post. No offense intended.
Your observation about Sevenfish's "reply" posted yesterday is interesting. All inactive threads in the Discussions are archived off and become locked (they used to become completely inaccessible) after a predetermined period of time has elapsed since the last post in the thread. The time before archiving-off varies from one forum to another: it's usually shorter in the most active forums and longer in the less active ones in my experience, but there may be exceptions. Either Sevenfish just happened to post again immediately before his post was archived off yesterday, or else there's an exception to the "replies are not allowed" rule for the original poster of an archived thread — maybe so the OP will be able to mark a question "Answered" and not have it show up as unanswered forever on his or her "My Questions" page. I don't know which is the case. Thanks for pointing out the oddity.

  • Can OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard work with an Imation Superdisk 120MB Drive?

I have an Imac duo core with Snow Leopard OSX 10.6.8 running on it.
Need to know if OSX 10.6.8 Snow Leopard works with an Imation Mac USB Superdisk 120 MG Drive before I buy an old use one.

Why would you want technology that is so old?

    Hi all,
If I have a destination directory with blank space inside, looks like: "C:\Users\Pattrick James\Documents" for Windows or "Macintosh HD:Users:Pattrick James:Documents" for Mac.
Then I want to copy a file to that directory, use FileUtils::CopyFile(src, des). Why it doesn't work?
Can someone please help me to resolve this issue without change my path?

Sorry, it works fine. It happens because the permission of the directory.

  • Will Leopard work with processor upgrades?

I know it's a matter of time but... has anybody checked it with Leopard ß versions?
    Thanks in advance.

I should have known better - I re-installed using Archive and Install and all is well. After successfully doing an upgrade install on an iMac (yes I have a Family Pack) and years of flawless upgrade installs with past OS's I tried to simply upgrade install the G4. Since the sudden power shutdown seemed like such an extreme error and I was half-expecting Leopard not to work on this machine anyway - I gave up too easy.
Like they say - buy low, sell high - don't play with matches and backup and use Archive and Install when changing OS.

  • Will leopard work with the current 2.16ghz mac book with 2gb ram?

hey just a quick question new to the whole mac thing and was just wanting to know will i be able to upgrade to leopard on my white mac book 2.16ghz with 2gb of ram and 120 gb harddrive?
    will it run smoothly?

The terms of use actually says:
"Speculations or rumors about unannounced products."
I would take that to mean questions and speculation about products which have been announced would be okay. Stuff like "Do you think Leopard will be able to do this or that" would seem to be okay.
I think Apple's intent is to keep speculation and/or rumors about products which may not even exist to a minimum.
Granted, no one, apart from developers under a NDA, have experience with Leopard... and even they don't know what the "secret" features are... but I think we're okay chatting about that stuff. They have a major OS overhaul coming in just a few months. I can't imagine they wouldn't expect people to chat about it... beyond what they have posted.

  • Will Leopard work with a macbook

I'm thinking of buying my first mac. It's the 2.16GHz one, for £829. Just wondering if leopard will be avaliable on this, or is it only going to be for the macbook pro's?

Leopard will available and run with macbook, infact after oct 26 release, all new mac will be bundled with leopard.
but you might want to wait a week or two to get a mac that already installed and bundled with mac, otherwise you might fill out a form to get your Leopard updater or get the upgrade disk on the spot at apple store (if available)when you purchase that macbook and upgrade that OS X yourself.
    Good Luck

  • Will Leopard work with G4?

If not....I dont think I will buy Apple one more time. It is not fair for G4 users....or Apple most give me a major discount (if I buy a new one).
    What do you think?

All you need to do is check the Mac OS X section of Apple's web site for info about Leopard. Since Leopard is not due out until this spring, I doubt there will be any firm statements about its technical requirements until it is announced.
That being said, its widely rumored that Steve Jobs may make an announcement about Leopard this Tuesday when he gives his annual keynote speech at Mac World Expo in San Francisco. If you have broadband Internet access, you can probably see the speech via streaming video by going to Apple's web site on Tuesday.

  • Expose / Spaces function(s) fail to work with mouse buttons, ongoing issue

Please see this now very old thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2131775&start=0&start=0
This is an issue as old as snow leopard itself. The problem varies in that it can effect spaces or expose. When using a non-apple mouse, one or more of these functions will fail to perform with a mouse button indefinitely as soon as a restart has taken place.
In my particular case, whatever mouse button I assign to "show desktop" fails to function entirely after a restart has taken place. This remains true even if I re-apply the setting in system preferences, such as changing it to another button, or changing it to nothing, and back. I can still use keyboard shortcuts and screen corners to activate "show desktop". I can continue to use other expose and spaces features with the properly assigned mouse keys. Only one feature, in my case "show desktop", fails to function with -any- mouse button after a restart.
To make this even more clear, this behavior has remained the same and consistent for the 14 months I've had snow leopard. It has even continued to exist after I recently removed and recreated my HFS+ partition, and re-installed OS 10.6, entirely from scratch. It did not exist whatsoever for the year and a month I had OS 10.5 leopard, before upgrading to 10.6. This behavior was +literally introduced upon installing snow leopard+. I have a razer death adder 1500 DPI mouse.
Several others share the exact same symptoms, with only the affected expose/spaces function and mouse model differing. A sibling of mine experienced the +exact same issue+ with an entirely different mac model and the exact same model of mouse.
As a relatively unimportant aside, certain "tricks" seem to fix the issue, but only temporarily (one involves moving the location of spaces and/or expose out of the utilities folder, another involves deleting "com.apple.symbolichotkeys.plist" from ~/Library/Preferences). Unfortunately, these tricks:
    A. always only fix the problem temporarily, the issue returns
    B. do not address whatever is causing the issue in the first place
This is really frustrating quite a few people, as the linked-to thread can attest to. Along with the obvious, this frustration is magnified because:
    A. This issue +does not appear+ to involve terribly challenging technical difficulties (i.e., merely mouse button behaviors).
    B. This issue did not seem to exist before OS 10.6.
    C. This issue, with the previous two points above in mind, has remained unaddressed for 14-plus months - the entire duration of Mac OS 10.6 snow leopard. I myself originally figured a reasonable time for this issue to be addressed & resolved would be a matter of +a few days+, weeks at most, and at the very least, thought I'd be using these beloved features again +well over a year ago+.
To put it frankly, what the %$#&? Why hasn't this been addressed yet?

Anyone even care? I submitted this as feedback to apple, and haven't got a reply through that route, either.

  • Why doesn't the desktop 'snap to grid' work with Snow Leopard?

I've recently upgraded my OS to Snow Leopard and I do a lot of work with photo folders which I keep organized on my desktop. Since upgrading the 'snap to grid' function in the view options of the desktop preferences has stopped working. For some reason the folders and files on the desktop keep snapping off the screen or on top of each other so that I cannot find them easily. I've had to turn off the 'snap to grid' and the desktop no longer looks organized and is not easy to navigate. Why is this happening? AND, how do I fix it? It seems to me the snap to grid shouldn't have gone out the window with an upgraded OS. I'm very organized and borderline OCD so this is FRUSTRATING me to no end!!!
    Anyone have any ideas?

It's working for me in 10.6. Try moving this file in your Home Folder/Library to the trash -- don't empty it yet.
    /Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
When finished go back to the Desktop>View Options and select Snap to grid.
If that doesn't do it, open Terminal in utilities and copy/paste this command, then hit return. Don't attempt to type it in by hand. If you make a typo or get the spaces wrong, there could be a disaster. When finished go back to the Desktop>View Options and select Snap to grid.
    rm ~/Desktop/.DS_Store

  • Automator "Connect to Server" doesn't work with spaces in volume name

I'm trying to use an old Automator Workflow I had set up in Snow Leopard that connected to a list of specified server mounts (both Windows smb:// and Apple afp://). It works fine for most of them, until it hits a mount point that has a space in it, where it fails. Looking at the debug area it looks like it's trying to connect to "smb://Server/Example%20Name" instead of "smb://Server/Example Name" and failing. Yet, when I use the "Connect to Server…" functionality in Finder, the same URL works just fine. Is there any syntax that will make this work correctly in Automator?

As I said I never used this before Lion and I don;t have any smb shares to test on but this is what I've found which may be of help:
The following workflow connects to my MB from an iMac:
Notice that the MB name is administrator's MacBook with a space and an apostrophe. Notice the %chars for the space and the apos so I don't think that the %20 for the space in your case is causing the problem.
When I tried this by entering afp://administrator's MacBook it failed. The error message showed the special chars converted as in the url that worked what was missing was the everything after the _ in the name.
When I did a connect to server in the Finder and selected Recent servers from the pull down and selected administrator's MacBook the url in the action above was shown. I copied the url from the server address line and pasted into the Automater action.
This might be of some help in your case at least it might show if the %20 is really causing the problem.
    regards

  • Need an App. uninstaller that works with Leopard.

I need to clear space on my MBP hard drive and upgrading it's internal drive is way too expensive, if you want to preserve your warranty. (Apple Stores won't do it!) I have an external drive, but I'm trying to use it as little as possible cause its a pain to carry around and set up, plugs and wires etc. So I need to find a good, Leopard compatible, application uninstaller. There are too many to choose from: Clean Sweep, CleanApp, AppZapper, Forklift etc.
What has anybody tried, and what are you happy with, and what seems to find all those pesky hidden files?
I know Leopard is an issue because most of the above apps make mention on their sites of issues they are having when working with Leopard.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, John

  • Report Parameters with a space between, not working

I have a problem with a report in SQL Server 2012 that uses cascading multi-valued parameters. I am using AdventureWorks2012DW as a sample, and all parameters work except for one with a space in this case its SalesTerritoryCountry and the parameter is 'North
America' which has a space. How do i get it to return data? here is my Stpre procedure for you to try.
    Create Procedure dbo.uspReportParams
    @Region varchar(15),
    @Country varchar(60)
    AS
    BEGIN
    SET NOCOUNT ON
Select st.SalesTerritoryGroup [Region], st.SalesTerritoryCountry [Country], r.BusinessType [Business Type], SUM(rs.SalesAmount) [Sales Amount]
from DimReseller r join FactResellerSales rs on r.ResellerKey = rs.ResellerKey
    join DimDate d on rs.OrderDateKey = d.DateKey
    join DimProduct p on p.ProductKey = rs.ProductKey
    join DimSalesTerritory st on rs.SalesTerritoryKey = st.SalesTerritoryKey
    where st.SalesTerritoryGroup IN (Select [splitdata] FROM dbo.fnSplitString (@Region,', '))
    --AND st.SalesTerritoryGroup <> 'NA'
    AND st.SalesTerritoryCountry IN (Select [splitdata] FROM dbo.fnSplitString (@Country,', '))
    Group by st.SalesTerritoryGroup, st.SalesTerritoryCountry, r.BusinessType
    END
IF i check it with other parameters it works except for North America
    EXEC dbo.uspReportParams @Region = 'Europe,Pacific,North America', @Country = 'Germany,France,United Kingdom,Australia,Canada'

Thanxs for the reply i will explain more. The Issue is on parameter region which is 'North America', it should return data for United states and Canada.... the spaces for the SalesTerritoryCountry dont matter but for the SalesTerritoryGroup.
I have made another discovery which has puzzled me more: If i place paramater 'North America' as the first value when executing the procedure, everything works well but if i place it elsewher ther is a problem here is a example to show what im saying
    EXEC dbo.uspReportParams @Region = 'North America,Europe,Pacific', @Country = 'Germany,France,United Kingdom,Australia,Canada'
The results for Region 'North America' and Countries 'United States' + 'Canada' Show
    Its working as expected
You're using an AND condition in the filter so it will only return the countries which are included in @Country filter as it is the lower level
I guess may be what you want is this??
    Create Procedure dbo.uspReportParams
    @Region varchar(15),
    @Country varchar(60)
    AS
    BEGIN
    SET NOCOUNT ON
Select st.SalesTerritoryGroup [Region], st.SalesTerritoryCountry [Country], r.BusinessType [Business Type], SUM(rs.SalesAmount) [Sales Amount]
from DimReseller r join FactResellerSales rs on r.ResellerKey = rs.ResellerKey
    join DimDate d on rs.OrderDateKey = d.DateKey
    join DimProduct p on p.ProductKey = rs.ProductKey
    join DimSalesTerritory st on rs.SalesTerritoryKey = st.SalesTerritoryKey
    where (st.SalesTerritoryGroup IN (Select [splitdata] FROM dbo.fnSplitString (@Region,', '))
    --AND st.SalesTerritoryGroup <> 'NA'
    OR st.SalesTerritoryCountry IN (Select [splitdata] FROM dbo.fnSplitString (@Country,', ')))
    Group by st.SalesTerritoryGroup, st.SalesTerritoryCountry, r.BusinessType
    END

  • Is there a way to make Silverkeeper  work with Snow Leopard?

I use a computer "given" to me by my school. I do have administrative privileges, but IT installs all OS software and configures it per the network on campus. Last February, they installed Snow Leopard and I began to restore all my files from my external backup. I'd been using Silverkeeper for years, I prefer the way it works (basically, it copies all files, then, with subsequent backups, can be set to only update changed files and add new files into the backup. In other words, there is only one folder. As a designer, I have the "v1,v2" so deeply ingrained in me that I never loose the early versions of documents). In short, Silverkeeper works for me. Time Machine is an interface that does not.
So, IT installed Snow Leopard, I bring my machine home, and start bringing files over. For every single file, I had to type in my password. The drive, every folder and every document was suddenly marked as "Read Only". I tried changing permissions. Didn't stick. I repaired permissions, tried changing, still wouldn't take. I contacted IT, one of the guys opened Terminal and typed in something (he never gave me the line of code, so I can't tell you what he did. I asked him what he did, he just said, "It's ok, I just gave you full permission. Don't sweat it." I got home, tried to bring over some files, and they still asked for my password. Nothing had changed. Except that the machine started sending urgent error messages. I disconnected my hard drive, rebooted, and could not get past the grey screen.
Even longer story short, IT wiped my computer, reinstalled SL, I brought in my hard drives, they worked with them to have them all "Read Write" again, and said I had to use Time Machine as a backup. They blamed the entire mess on Silverkeeper.
So, the semester went on, I've been using TIme Machine ever since and I hate it. Hate it. I want my Silverkeeper, or some other such backup that gives me one file, and all my records kept in that file, in a visual manner. I hate these dates, with the multiple folders, and the threat that it will throw away old files (I just resurrected a file from a Quark doc made in 1994!). But IT has me too afraid to use Silverkeeper. Personally, I think something went wrong with the first install, then IT screwed it up even more by opening up Terminal and "fixing" the code, and they refuse to admit they have ever made a mistake. BTW, I've been using Macs for 22 years and have never experienced anything like this. I have done more system upgrades myself than I can remember, I have troubleshooted my own machines for years, and kept them humming beautifully.
It's summer, and I want a different backup. Please help, or let me know if I dare brave my old favorite once again. If there is a utility that I have to buy, I will. I'm so fed up and frustrated with the interface on Time Machine, I'm ready to go back to the bad old days of manual backups.

Are you using the latest version of Silverkeeper? - v.2.0.2 is stated to be compatible with Snow Leopard.
