Leopare Mail and .mac password glitch

I cannot send or receive mail via .mac because it asks for my password which I enter and it says nope...but I KNOW it's right...so I go to .mac and try and get reply that it's the wrong username and/or pw, but I KNOW it's right, so I click on forgot pw, reenter it and voila...it works for both .mac and mail...UNTIL next time...anybody experiencing this and what the heck is going on. It just started, got my Mac in Dec and all was fine until about March and from there it's been downhill with my Mac experience.

If you haven't already done so, I would try running Keychain First Aid on your login keychain, which is done via Keychain Access.
Launch Keychain Access, which is located at Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access.app.
Select your login keychain under Keychains, and at the menu bar, go to Keychain Access and select Keychain First Aid.
Enter your password, select Repair, and then Start.

My 10.8.3 update did not install properly citing an 'Unknown Error'. Now, my Mail and Mac App Store aren't working. What went wrong and how do i fix it ?

I tried this and still have the same problems. If I open Address book or the Mac App Store I get the library rebuild popup and a hang. I created a fresh user and then things are better apart from the printing issue. Its clearly some 3rd party software issue but the crash logs are meningless to me. I used the excellent Etre check app from http://www.etresoft.com/etrecheck so I have a list of what is being loaded and can compare clean and crashed user info but as I cant work out which of the startup items, launch agents, launch daemons etc that  are causing the problem.
I have eliminated Dropbox, Mac Keeper and Witness, and it isnt related to my exterrnal LED cinema dispay or my external thunderbolt drives, or any USB devices if thats any help to anyone else. Info from Etrecheck follows -

  • Lion Mail and iCloud Password

Alright, I've seen tons of threads all over forums for this, and no real solutions. And I'm wondering why:
Lion Apple Mail keeps asking me for my iCloud password almost every time I fire it up, or randomly when I've got it already open.
Why is that? I've tried deleting the password from the preferences/accounts and re-typing it several times. That didn't work. I've tried reparing the keychain with the keychain app, but that didn't work.
I don't get it. What exactly do I do? Nothing has worked. Do I delete the entire account in Mail and set it up again from scratch? Sometimes it'll ask me repeatedly for it and nothing works, so I have to cancel and quit, and then wait a bit and start Mail again and hope that it'll take it this time around. Sometimes it'll take it the first time I type it in. Sometimes it won't even ask for it at all.
What's the deal? What do I do? I've looked on this forum and other forums dealing with Macs and, like many others, none of the solutions presented have actually worked. So any tips would be greatly appreciated.

If it works now, it will work from now on.
If you check the preferences for that account, you will notice in the advanced tab that it uses Apple Token for log in. No password used. You can also make the other settings for Mailbox Behaviors.
Also note that when you sign out of iCloud or disable the account in the iCloud sys prefs that it will remove iCloud from Mail until it's re enabled or you sign back in.
    Good Luck

  • MacBook Air dual system with Windows crashed, and Mac password forgotten

The MacBook Air of my friend encountered a few big problems.  Here is the story:
    1. There are two operating systems in it: Windows 7 and Mac OS 10.6.  She used Windows 7 exclusively (which is the reason for the 5th problem below).  This may already seem awkward from the start, but please don't blame her for this..
    2. Today somehow the Windows 7 cannot boot (the classical "blue screen" appeared), probably due to an error in the updating process.
    3. So now we have to log into the Mac OS to do some operation on the Windows system, either to back up the data, or to edit the Windows disk somehow to repair it.
    4. In order to do this, we need to install some third party tools in Mac OS (to have access to the NTFS file system; BTW, the Windows partition cannot be mounted by the "disk utility" tool due to some errors), and here is where another big problem comes about:
    5. She has forgotten the password of the Mac OS system (be assured: this MacBook Air is not a stolen one), so practically we cannot install any new software, or run tools that requires a high privilege!
    6. Well, by Googling I found that the password might be circumvented by using a recovery usb stick, by she cannot find out this usb stick...
    7. Some articles mentioned pressing "command + R" or "command + S" during booting to enter a command line environment (I am not sure about this), which had no effect at all in our case.
By now I have no solid idea how could such a situation be solved...  The possibilities I can think of are:
    a. Take the laptop to an Apple repair center.
    b. Try to make a recovery disk by myself, and use it to get rid of the password.
    c. Try to boot the computer with an external disk (somehow made), and then edit or backup the Windows partition.
I am not sure any of them will work.
    Any ideas will be appreciated!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If your friend has got a Late 2010 MacBook Air, the Mac came with a USB drive that contains Mac OS X Snow Leopard, to reset passwords, reinstall Mac OS X...
If he/she has got an older MacBook Air, he/she has got DVDs instead, and you need an external optical drive or a PC to be able to reset the password. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2129?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US After starting with the DVD, open Utilities menu > Password Reset, and follow the steps
If he/she lost the USB drive or DVDs, call Apple to get replacement DVDs or another USB drive > http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57

  • Windows Live Mail and Mac Mail

    Hi,
I have Windows Live Mail up and running nicely through Mac Mail (I have just switched from PC to Mac). However I'm wondering what's the right way to sync them fully. I mostly access email through Mac Mail now but whenever I need to access Hotmail through the web, all the msgs I have read or deleted earlier are still showing as unread.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Helen

I see no one else has answered so I’ll try to get the ball rolling and maybe others will chime in.
First, I am not familiar with Windows Live Mail so I can’t guarantee to give directions to get you there from here but I’m sure there is a way.  Some Googling found these paths:
A tutorial on the process (transferring mail and contacts):
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpSQ3-DKxSc
    Uses https://convertmyemail.com/
    $20
    Also https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2536701 which points to
    http://www.windowslivemailconverter.com/mac/
    $50.
That led me to “elm to mbox” where I found
    http://download.cnet.com/EML-to-MBOX-Converter/3000-2369_4-75999580.html
    $50.
    and

  • Yahoo mail and .Mac

Here's the problem: when I'm on a web page and click on a "Contact Us" or "Send us an E-mail" link, my computer opens the Mail app. and I get a window prompting me to set up a .Mac account. I use Yahoo mail (the free kind) and don't really feel the need to set up a .Mac account (you have to pay for those, right?).
I downloaded "Yahoo Mailer" from macupdate.com. This software redirects from the link to a blank "Compose" window on my Yahoo mail. That part works fine, but the "To" box is empty, when it should have the recipient's e-mail address. At this point, I'm not able to contact anyone who has just a "Send us an e-mail" link. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks in advance.

When creating an account with the Mail application, .Mac is selected as the account type by default but it isn't required to purchase a .Mac account in order to use the Mail application to access an email account.
The Mail applications supports the following account types:
.Mac (which is really an IMAP account and behaves in the same way)
    IMAP
    POP
    Exchange
But Yahoo prevents accessing a free Yahoo account with any email client such as the Mail.app but you can access a Yahoo Mail Plus or paid account as a POP account with an email client such as Mail which costs only $20/yr.
To each his/her own but I prefer using an email client such as Mail over webmail access which is primarily designed for accessing an email account when away from your computer using another computer besides your own with internet access.

  • Yahoo Mail and Mac mail

    Can anyone help?
I have had a macbook for over a year and successfully used its mail program with yahoo mail.
Over the past week, I cannot send email. I receive everything fine but cannot send or reply.
    Account work fine from iphone.
I have tried changing server/smtp bits and security with no avail. I have even re-installed the program to see if that helps.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Sue

Try manually setting up the account—when you enter your address & password, hold down the Option key when you click Continue. That will allow you to specify manual server settings. Try these settings. I don't know if Yahoo Mail requires a password authentication for its SMTP server.
You can also try contacting Yahoo directly.

  • Mail and .Mac Mail

    Hi.
I am switching over to .Mac mail and I think I have have done something wrong. I have a gmail account too, but I'd rather just use one (.Mac) account.
After I draft an email in OSX mail, I then select which server to use to send the email. My gmail outgoing server works fine but the .Mac sever in the dropdown box says (offline) all the time and therefore doesn't work.
Any idea what I have done wrong?

Changing the port didn't help me. What did help was in Mail-preferences deleting the smtp-connection and maually add a new one (with the same name/ip and port). After that sending mail worked as good as in 10.4

  • Desk top mail and .Mac Mail

I am using my desk top mail and my .Mac mail, when my .Mac Mail syncs it updates my .Mac desk top G4 and my .Mac power book lap top but it does not sync my mail account. Should Mail be automatically updated when I sync the .Mac address or do I have to updated Mail independently.
    Hope that makes sense
    Thanks
    Mike

    Hello Mike.
A .Mac type account is really an IMAP type account and behaves in the same way.
If you are accessing your .Mac account as a .Mac type account with the Mail.app on both Macs, messages in the account's Inbox mailbox on the server are kept synchronized with the account's Inbox mailbox with the Mail.app on both Macs automatically.
With the Mail.app on both Macs, you can also store Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk messages on the server and after doing so, these mailboxes/messages will also be kept synchronized with the server with the Mail.app on both Macs automatically.
With the Mail.app on either Mac, if you move messages from the account's Inbox mailbox to a user created "On My Mac" location mailbox which is stored locally on the hard drive, this process saves the transferred messages locally on the hard drive and removes the messages from the server at the same time. Messages removed from a server stored mailbox to a locally stored mailbox will no longer be kept synchronized with the Mail.app on another Mac since the messages are no longer located in a server stored mailbox.

  • Syncing Yahoo Mail and Mac Mail

I upgraded to Yahoo Mail Pro in order to use my Yahoo Mail through Mac Mail. When I delete an email through Safari/Yahoo, Mac Mail does not reflect that. How can I sync the two so that what I do in one occurs in the other? Further, for some reason all but four of my emails got deleted out of my Safari/Yahoo account. How the heck did that happen?
    Message was edited by: Jerdog

You can't. Yahoo Plus only offers POP access. To do what you want, you'll need an email provider who offers email via IMAP.

  • I need my email (Mail for Mac) passwords. How can I get them? I posted a detailed question and found the OS and the problem category were wrong.

Please, someone help. I just need my email passwords. Everything has stopped working. Apple is ZERO help. I get constant dialog boxes asking for passwords. I've tried listing every password I've ever used at least 25-50 times, to no avail. Thank you. I can't even post this to an appropriate community or select an appropriate category or correct OS. Apple is totally useless.

Not sure what you are referring to? Apple Mail does not require a password. Please describe exactly what is happening, what email you are using, when the request for the password is showing up, and what the exact message is.
    Cheers,

  • MAIL AND .MAC

When I first bought my Apple I set up a Mac mail account. When the .Mac trial was almost over I bought a subscription and set up another email account. I thought I deleted the old account, but when I click on the postage stamp an apparently empty mailbox pops up and asking me for my passwor, which it won't accept. I want the old account completely deleted and the new one in its place so that when I click on the postage stamp the new account will show up.
How do I fix my mess to straighten this out?

    Hi Rhonda
First, make sure that your .Mac details in System Preferences are correct. Open System Preferences, go to .Mac, and check your correct account username and password.
Then, go to Mail, open Preferences from the Mail menu, go to Accounts, and make sure that you only have one, correct, .Mac account listed on the left hand side. If your old one is still there, you should make sure you have any email you need from it (move it to a local mailbox if necessary), then delete the account by clicking the "-" sign at the bottom left.

  • Changing Mail and MobileMe Passwords

    Hi all,
I tried to change my Mail password by going to Preferences and then Account Information, but now I understand that doesn't actually change the password - it just changes the password that Mail is using to try to log in to your mail server.  How do I change the password on the server?
My account type is iCloud IMAP and my incoming mail server and outgoing mail server (SMTP) are p03-imap.mail.me.com and iCloud (iCloud) respectively.
    Thank you

Thanks, I have changed my Apple ID password (i.e. my iCloud password). Does this mean even if someone gets into my account on my old job's Mac, they cannot just launch my Mail app by clicking on it and see all my emails, etc...  Right?

  • Mail and .mac account

    Hi
Can someone tell me if I am right in thinking that isync will keep mail on my PBP and mail on my .mac account both updated each time I use either of them? Any tips to keep this happening smoothly?
    Thank you

    It's not quite like that:
A .Mac account is Apple's name for an IMAP account. With these account types, all items that you don't deliberately remove from the server In Box will stay there. (You can choose for all your sent mail you be added to the server Sent box by selecting 'Store sent messages on the server" in the Mailbox Behaviours tab. There's also an option for Drafts, Junk and Trash.)
When your mail data is stored on the server, you can view it from your laptop or online or from any other computer that has your username and password. (If you think of these being windows on the server mailboxes it might be clearer.)
Occasionally, you will have to weed-out messages by moving them off the server and on to your local computer (at which point that's the only place that you can see them), simply because of the amount of space allocated for storage - but you will get a warning to do so.
dot Mac syncing will sync details of your mail accounts between computers, together with associated rules if you choose these options. However, it does not copy any actual emails.
I have received, sent and drafts stored on the server, so I can pack-up at work go home and have all in both places.
Ask away if you have any further questions.

  • Mail and .mac mail not working

Well, I've sent 3 emails to customer service to no avail, so hopefully someone else on these inter-tubes is having the same problem. 3 days ago my mail stopped working. Mail on my Mac continually says my password has been rejected. OK, Mail sometimes is flaky. I can live with that (for now), but I also can't get email from a web browser. I can log in just fine and dandy. Bookmarks? Check. iWeb web sites? Check. iDisk, iCards, iCal? Check, check, and check. Mail? "Your information could not be displayed. Click here to try again." I've clicked "here" more times than Steve Jobs says "Amazing" at a keynote. I've tried on several different computers all with the same results. If anyone can help I'd be eternally grateful. Thanks! FYI, I have had this account since iTools.
