Less than perfect sound from my Zen

I have been reading alot of these threads and everybody says how great and perfect their Zen sounds. Maybe i'm a little picky, but i find that mine lacks a little in the higher frequencies. I know the specs say 7,000hz to
ps.
I have played with all the different EQ's, and made my own, but still find it a little short on the higher frequencies. If it wasn't for that, it would sound perfect.
Could a different set of earbuds or headphones make up a little of that sound i'm looking for? Or what can i try?

' It's all relati've, and relati've to other popular players the Zen scores well in terms of response. But that said, a decent set of headphones or in-ear monitors will make all the difference for the lot of them. Ultimately the speakers are the most significant factor to how any audio equipment sounds.

  • How to return less than 4000 characters from pl/sql function in SQL call?

    Hello,
Is there a way to limit length for varchar when calling pl/sql function from SQL? No matter how I write it it always returns 4000 bytes.
If there is none, then does it make sense ever to specify lenght of the return variable?
My goal is to encapsulate business rules within pl/sql functions. But if all varchar columns are returned as 4000 it is not feasible solution. Not only this is a performance issue in a data warehousing environment, bet when using those rules within SQL views user experiance would suffer as well. Are we left with the rule hardcoding solution? Also, I think that using SUBSTRING or TRUNC functions on top of business rules function defeats the purpose.
Please see my attempt below. Your thoughts are appreciated.
    Thank you.

    RETURN l_return;

    Pointless,
Thanks for jumping in on this and I am glad you asked :).
I do not doubt that it is an architectural challenge. Otherwise it would have been done already! I am struggling with the fact that SQL knows what data type the function will return, but does not know the length of it, precision or scale. I will leave it at that.
I will go with some high level requirements to allow for alternative thoughts:
    1)     Business defined rules. There are multiple types of business rules. Simple lookups, bucketing, complex calculations, data retrieved from other tables etc. We have about 500 different rules. Some of them are even overloaded – different inputs will produce the same output.
    Some simple examples are:
    Rule1 - Fruit
         when ‘A’ then ‘Apple’
         When ‘O’ then ‘Orange’
         Else ‘N/A’ end
    Rule2 – Bonus
         when STATUS =’Active’ and LEVEL=’CEO’ then bonus=salary*1.0
         when STATUS =’Active’ and LEVEL=’nobody’ then bonus=salary*0.01
         else bonus=0
    Rule 3 – Income Bracket
When more than 0 and less or equal to 30000 then INC_B=’LOW’
When more than 30000 and less of equal to 60000 then INC_B=’MIDDLE’
    Etc.
    2)     Challenge: All data users in an organization need to use the same rules (let’s assume data source is Oracle database). How to expose all the rules to different types of users in manageable way? Types of users – analysts, application/web developers, data warehouse teams etc.
    3)     Current system: Not only each user has coded their own rules (luckily based on the common specification), but hard-coding is taking place for each query within the confines of one project. The project I just looked at had about 12 modules with 30 hardcoded queries. Oops! Few rules just changed.
My take: I was leaning toward encapsulating business logic within UDF’s. UDF’s provide all the flexibility we need + overloading. All the functions could be consumed by data warehouse team (building summary tables, cubes etc.) and application developers. For power users we could build views by applying the same functions on top of the source data. Thus avoid data duplication. It seemed win-win until this 4000 issue :).
Your thoughts on alternative approaches are appreciated.
    Thank you.

  • Terrible sound from Traveldock Zen Micro

We just bought a traveldock for our daughter to play her Zen Micro. When we hook up the Zen Micro to the docking ports of the Traveldock, the sound comes out very quiet and garbled. Connecting to the back line-in jack plays perfectly - only when playing through front docking ports it sounds like garbage. Very quiet, missing vocal track.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a way to fix this or is this just a bad unit's
We are very disappointed with this product.

    Thanks for the response.
As it turns out, I did some experimenting. In the Zen Micro menu, the Audio EQ setting was set to New Age. I turned this off. Also I turned off the Smart Volume setting. Hooked it back up to the Traveldock and, lo and behold, it played perfectly.
My opinion of the product is now much better.
I don't know if it was the change in audio settings, making sure to attach the player firmly in the dock, or what, but it sounds much better now.
I also downloaded but haven't yet installed the 2.2.02 firmware update for the Zen Micro just in case there's anything in there that helps its computability with the Traveldock. Anyway, we are happier now that the sound is coming out loud and clear.

  • In a less than perfect world !!!!

I read the BB forums regularly and have had reason to use them in the past myself.
Here is a ray of sunshine on an rainy horizon for BT
I upgraded my BB from ADSL2 to 21CN on 5/5/11.  I got a text on my mobile at work telling me that the the upgrade was complete.
I arrived home to check things out and had a bit of a disappointment when I saw that the H/Hub had not upgraded to the  ITU-T G 992.5.
Remembering all that I had read on the Forums I left well alone and told my Errant 17yr old daughter not to touch the H/Hub on pain of Death. It was worth it as at 6pm ping the  H/Hub reset itself to the desired ITU-T G 992.5.
One BT speed test later confirmed all was well on the connection but the Bras (IP line profile) was set to 7000kbps. No matter we are in the line training mode for a few days I thought.
So all was left alone still and I  completed speed tests  morning and evening and nothing moved for a day or two.
This morning I carried out the speed test and Bingo. Connection speed now up to 17139kbps down and 1197kbps up and achieving speeds in exess of 1500kbps down and 850kbps up.
The moral of the tale is
A: Read the forums and act on the advice given ( Its usually pretty sound and well informed) and
B: BT sometimes get it right so thank you to all ( IMJolly in particular for his constant advice on the forums)  for a smooth transition to 21CN

I feel your pain. Initially on joining BT onADSL2 I had the usual phone calls to India / engineer visits etc for a good few weeks to get things sorted.
My problem was eventually sorted by an Engineer who fitted a new socket, disconnected the bell wire then fitted some sort of plate at the master socket that stopped thebroadband at that socket, thus eliminating and wiring / noise from the rest of the house. Result was a steady 6500kbps at any time of day for the last year. mind you it does help living only a couple of hundred yards from the exchange.

  • Burners that are more "aggressive" reading less than perfect discs

Has anyone had experience with having to duplicate and work with originals provided by clients that are hard for the dvd drives to recognize properly when you try to make copies? I'm talking about non copy protected - industrials provided to me from varied dvd burners "in the field". Mostly different construction related specialty work. These dvd "masters" are created by feeding a camera's output to a consumer dvd/vhs combo recorder. Most of the dvd's I get are fine, but occasionally my drives "choke" on the originals. The discs are clean (no scratches) and the brand of blank does not seem to matter. I have purchased software that is supposed to have superior error correction properties and it doesn't really help.
I'm thinking that folks in this forum might have experience with hardware solutions that might help this situation.
    TIA,
    Pete D

    Pete,
It used to happen more in the past than it does now, but this just happened to me last week. A client broat over a DVD which would not read in all 3 of my Macs no matter what drive I used. It also only played in 2 of my multiple set top players. It eventually played and mounted in my "home" PC of all things. Having a few different brand drives ready to read the discs and a few extra computers around helps.

  • Import less than full card from camera

I only want to import a few pictures from a card that has a bunch. Is there a way to do that ? The only option that pops up is "import 122 photos"? I don't see anything in preferences or anywhere that will let me select. I'm on iphoto 5
    thanks

Not with iPhoto 5 - you can use imagem capture (in your applications folder) to selective import photos - in iPhoto '08 and later you can selectively import from iPhoto

  • SQL query to populate the records, the maximum processed should be less than 10 records per week.

    Dear All,
I have a requirement, to write a SQL query to populate the records which are inserted less than 10 no of records.
The tables has the cretaed_date column and along with other key column which will have unique values.
Ex1:  The user might have inserted records from application, per week basis, between the date range '01-jun-2013' - 08-jun-2013  , the no of records created by the user during this week may be less than 10 records or more.
But I want to populate the records by giving date range that too, it should pick the records the count which fall with in 10 records.
I dont want the query to populate the records if the user has inserted more than 10 records in a week.
    Ex2:
User 1 has created 15 records during the week 1 ( the query should not populate this ).
User 2: has cretaed less than 10 records from the UI during the week 2. ( This details should get populated ).
    Thanks

Use COUNT to find how many rows where inserted in a week.
If this does not answer your question then please read Re: 2. How do I ask a question on the forums? And provide necessary details.

  • No sound from Premiere Pro

I was reviewing a video in the source tab when i realized that I couldn't hear any of the sound from Premiere Pro.
I can see the sound db raising in the sound value bar but I cannot hear anything from Premiere Pro.
I can hear everything outside of Premiere but nothing inside of it.

    A little more information:
I'm listening on my headphones when the sound didn't work.
I therefore tried to turn them off and listen over the computers and it worked over the computers speakers.
But it still doesn't work on my headphones. I can hear every other sound than the sound from Premiere on my headphones.
While I hear a song from for example Spotify while I edit in Premiere then I still can't hear anything from Premiere on my headphone(because it is on my computers speakers) but i can still hear everything from Spotify.

  • SharePoint Designer Workflow, condition: if value of date/time field is less then x days from today, do something

    Hello,
A field in a list is called 'Date'  (it is a date/time type of field)
Now I want a condition in a workflow that checks the 'date' field. If the date is less than X days from today it should (for example) send an email to a certain user.
Is this kind of condition possible in a SharePoint Designer Workflow?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
As I understand, you want to create a workflow that can check data.
    The workflow can be:
    1. Add 0 months, 2 days, 0 hours, 0 minutes to Current Item:date1 (Output to Variable: date ) (2 days is the days you can set, and Current Item:data1 is the datefield you want to check from today)
    2. Add 0 months, 0 days, 0 hours, 0 minutes to Today (Output to Variable: date1 )
    3. Set time as 0 : 0 for Variable: date (Output to Variable: date2 )(get the Variable: date Date only )
    4. Set time as 0 : 0 for Variable: date1 (Output to Variable: date3 )( get the Variable: date1 Date only)
    5. If Variable: date2 equals Variable: date3
    6. Email these users

Why is the sound from my Apple tv2 so much louder than the sound from the tv/pvr; both are connected with optical cable to the same amplifier.

Because the 2 manufacturers of the device have their own ideas of where 0db should be. Does your amplifier offer input trim? if so use it.

  • T410 random beep sound( from machine for less than 5 mins) + screen freeze + Blue Screen (some time)

I have new purchased T410 during christmas time.
here is my machine spec(everything from Levono, did not upgrade any parts):
    T410, model 2516CTO
    8 GB RAM
    i7 CPU
    500GB HDD
    Integried graphic card
Windows 7 professional (applied all latest updates)
Problem random happen, for about 8 times,
    System works regularly
and all of sudden machine make continousely "beep" sound(from machine, not speaker),
    after that screen freeze,
and then sometime system go back to normal, sometime crash completely to blue screen(most time).
The whole problem takes about 3-5 mins.
1 time it even happen in safe mode (after log in, desktop freezed immediately, then blue screen).
I chkdsk the whole disk found no problem.
I call Lenovo tech support, he ask me restore the original OS(Windows 7 home prim), then he can help me.
I refused because that's mean i have to destroy all the work I done (spend almost a week to install development tools and software) .
Since the problem is random anyway, I just reboot and bakeup more offen. :-(
I used Thinkpad since IBM time, never have problem with previous 2 T Series machines, but this one, not happy.

  • Brand new Zen, less than 1 hour use..crashed and will not b

Purchased on 5th of June 2006, less than hr use and not working!!
    SPECS
TYPE - TYPE : Zen Micro Photo
    Capacity - 8GB
    DATE - DATE June 5th 2006
    PRICE - $99
COUNTRY - US (whilst on holiday, I bought 2, one for a US friend and one for me)
    ACCESSORIES -None
    SOUND QUALITY - decent!
USER INTERFACE - UI is ok
SOME COMMENTS - IT has now crashed with less than hours use, it will not boot up, will not charge via USB,it's brand new.. so no. I hate this player. A player should never have this type of problems with less than hours use!!!
SUGGESTIONS - MAKE A PLAYER THAT WORKS
BATTERY LIFE - THe first time I used it, I had just had my friend transfer her music files onto it after doing the same to her player. I just wanted to make sure that it worked properly this was on the 8th of June
on the 9th I got on a flight and headed to the UK, I did not use the player at all, but I noticed that the battery life had slightly reduced even though the player was off.
On Saturday the 0th I went for a walk to and used the player for no more than 30mins.
Everything seemed fine, I adjusted a few settings like the sensitivity of the touch pad and put the player on shuffle. I got home, shut the player down and fell asleep.
Sunday (today) June th. the player refused to boot when switched on, it just hung on the floating creative Zen micro screen. I shut it down and it took ages for it to shut down even though it didn't fully boot up.
I called my friend in the US and asked her if shher battery was failing she said no, I installed the softtware on my machine, slid the back of my zen, removed the battery and replacd it immediately.
After installing the software, I connected the ZEn to the machine via USB, nothing happened.
It won't charge, the Zen windows explorer doesn't hink anything is connected to the machine.
I am severely disappointed. I spent $400+ buying 2 players with creative, I do not expect a new product to fail so miserably on its first outing.
Where the heck do I go from here...
creative owes me an apology and a decent brand new replacement.
A very very dissappointed buyer indeed!
    In summary,
THe player will not boot up
    It will not charge
I cannot get it into recovery mode
    The screen remains blank
It did not come with a mains charger, just a USB cable to charge via the computer
How can such a shoddy product be released?
I bought this product int he US with my credit card..
I would have to go back to the US in order to get a refund and I would have to do this before 4days are up. which means the deadline for a refund is 9th of June 2006
Would creative be willing to incur my costs and time to fly back to NY in order to return this nightmare of a product!!
This is soo shoddy it is unbelievable.
Creative please rescue your reputation and sort this out.

Unfortunately scratches aren't considered a defect.
If the click wheel stopped working or the screen went bad, then that's covered under warranty. But scratches, unfortunately aren't. I would do a search. There have been a few people with success with scratch removers.
The iPod comes partially charged. There's also that fast chargering, and a full charge.
check out the iPod support site for tips on maximizing battery life.

  • Just tried installing an update to OS.  Although the screen tells me that the installation will be completed in less than one minute, that was two hours ago, and the computer won't permit me to shut it down via the power button, as I get an error sound.

Just tried installing an update to OSX Snow Leopard.  Prior to trying to update OS, I was running V 10.6.3.  During installation, it locked up.  Although the screen tells me that the installation will be completed in less than one minute, that was two hours ago, and the computer won't permit me to shut it down via the power button, as I get an error sound.  What do I do now?  Help!

Hold the power key till it shuts down, it may take a little while, try holding it thru the warning.
Then if it shuts down restart and open Safari/Preferences, General tab, and set "Save Downloaded Files to:"
Select desktop, if desktop is not available in the the drop down menu, click other, then select Desktop from the column from the on the left.
    Then download this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
This will download the "stand alone installer"
Click on the installer pkg and follow the prompts.
    Hope this helps
