Lessons I've learned with Asurion

Lessons I've learned the hard way after purchasing a Galaxy Tab ($399) with insurance from Verizon 3 years ago :
Did You Know?
  1. Verizon customer service reps (in Enterprise, AL) will not assist in making a lost or damage claim with Asurion:
       - I was provided with Asurion's phone number and website to make my claim
       - They made it clear by repeatedly stating "The insurance for your device is not with Verizon"
2. Asurion will not amend their deductable to compensate for current value.
       - I made monthly insurance payments for 3 years. (Totaling over $300)
       - As I type this message my Tablet is available on eBay for less than $75 from several sources. (That's NIB - buy now)
       - The response from their final authority (one of the many representatives from the office of the CEO) at Asurion remained the same,
"You must pay the $149.00 deductable in order to complete your clam and receive a used replacement currently in stock."
3. My local Verizon office will "allow" me to upgrade my device,,,, for more money of course.
4. Finally, Asurion has a track record of unethical business practices resulting in a class action lawsuit.
Perez et al v. Asurion Corp. et al (case number 06-20734-Civ-Seitz/McAliley)
5. So, can or should Verizon include Asurion's insurances charges on their billing statements without accepting some portion of liability
for services rendored ? What about late fees? Would I have been charged late fees for Asurion's bill?
My opinion - Verizon is very much aware of Asurion's history and more to blame for unethical business practices designed to mitigate expenses.

A) No matter which carrier you go with they ALL use Asurion.
B) As far as lowering a deductible. If you buy a new car and have full coverage does you deductible get lower after 1 year or 2 years due to the car being wort less? Nope you pay the same deductible.
C) Before you even got the insurance it tells you what the deductible is. If you didn't like the terms why did you get the insurance? I've never gotten insurance on a phone. I just make sure I take good care of it.

  • A Tale of Woe and a Lesson to be Learned

    A Tale of Woe
Well, it happened to me last night. I went to open the iPhoto 5 library dedicated to my latest book project and voilà, I had the dreaded gray thumbnails and the SWOD white, blank Edit window that comes up after double-clicking on one of those gray puppies. An I experienced exactly what many of you have felt, an tremendous sinking in the pit of my stomach.
So after the invectives were over I went about trying to determine what exactly had happened to corrupt the database file in that library. After pondering my previous iPhoto usage yesterday I determined that the damage must have occurred when I went to launch iPhoto 4 to check out a problem posted by a user in the Discussions forum. Since that book library was the last V5 library to be opened, it was the library of record in the preference file. Since both V4 and V5 use the same preference file V4 tried to open the book library and gave me the “this library was created by a later version of iPhoto... blah blah blah” message. I quit, launched V4 with the Option key depressed and went on my merry way.
Later I decided to go back to working on the book, launched iPhoto Buddy, selected the book library and tried to open that library. So here we are, staring at a large number of little gray squares.
I then briefly tried some of the “wonderful” advice I’ve been shelling out these past months and guess, what? Nada! I’m quickly becoming convinced that once you get the gray boxes that library is pretty much history. I can’t remember a successful recovery. (You can, however, recover for file renaming via the Finder in iPhoto 5 libraries, a different problem).
Realizing that that library was toast (no reflection on Roxio), I mounted my backup HD and copied the backup copy of the library into my Pictures folder. Since it was updated after the last time I worked on that library I lost no effort and was back in the saddle in no time.
    The Lesson to be Learned
BACKUP, BACKUP, BACKUP!!!!! I know not everyone can afford a second HD to facilitate frequent and easy backing up of critical files but it’s something all should give serious consideration too. Modest sized (80 G) FireWire hard drives are down where they are not entirely out of reach. Many files can be replaced, memos, letters, applications, etc. but when it comes to family photos and the memories they invoke, there’s no going back. This also applies for other types of photos as well, not just family photos. If your hard drive has enough free space that would allow you to have a second copy of your iPhoto library without reducing the overall free space to where you might have performance problems I strongly suggest you make a copy and put it somewhere else in your User folder, maybe Documents and then use a backup application, as many of you know I like Synk, to backup your library after each use. In the backup mode this would take under 30 seconds as you’re only copying/adding changed and new files. The next best thing is to backup to CD/DVDs. Slower but just as safe.
Sorry to have rambled in this Sunday morning sermon but after experiencing firsthand last night what many of you have been posting about I felt compelled to so some preaching (or rather some strong urging).
Hope this has been of some help. Good luck.

I was at first stunned and heartbroken reading of Old Toad's loss.
Then of course relieved to know he had of course practiced what he preaches -- have an accessible backup in the right format to get back in business.
"Backup" and "Don't Tamper" (with the iPhoto Library Folder) are two essential guidelines to enjoying a trouble free iLife.
The third essential guideline is to be very careful in the wanton downloading and use of third party applications that work with the delicate if not ornery iPhoto librarian.
Old Toad would never blunder in a pure Apple/OSX/ iPhoto setup.
But he was having fun with his buddy iPhoto Buddy and his latest flirtation - the sexy little download PreferenceSetter.
IPhoto sat back - furious and jealous - just waiting for Old Toad to make one tiny little misstep. Either he did or his third party friends did. Photo management has no fury like iPhoto scorned.
For the resourceful Anicent and Venerable Amphibian it was nothing but a momentary bump in the road. For others it could have been ugly.
Just remember this: If you are going to hang around Version Tracker looking to download any cute little easy (free) app that catches your eye, remember that iPhoto is watching and waiting. She is always watching and waiting for one tiny little misstep, . . .

  • What is best to learn with mm.

    Hi
I am sap mm certified consultant. If i get opportunity to learn pp or wm. What should i choose ?   What will increase my market value in the long run?
I have worked as production planner in past.
    Thanks
    Kiran

First go for WM which is desirable iand a natural progression to a MM consultant. WM will take less time to learn as compared to PP. Over the course of time keep learning PP. PP & MM is highly saleable skill. Aim for both with first prioritising WM and then PP. In future be open to QM also. MM/WM with PP/QM will complete the whole set. You cant carry your next 10 years SAP consultancy with MM/WM only. You are expected to bring more value on table with time.

  • I am creating a check on learning with 2 responses and want to create a correct/incorrect response

I am creating a check on learning which is scenario based.  I want the student to be able to select whether it is permissible or nonpermissible.  I had thought to do this with 2 objects--each associated with a clickbox to indicate a correct/incorrect response but this doesn't work.  How can I achieve this?

Could you please explain what you want in a little more detail?  I'm a bit unsure about what you want the student to indicate is either permissable or non-permissable.
If you are using Click Boxes positioned over objects that the user should click to indicate their choice, have you set the click boxes to show feedback captions?

  • I love Spry!  Here's some nice data to learn with

Using Spry has been a godsend for me and I've begun using it
to develop some new features for our online Plant Encyclopedia and
database. I plan to make our data available to other developers and
publishers so I thought this would be a good place to start. Each
plant has it's own XML file with links to photographs and other
resources that you can have fun with when exploring Spry (or XSLT
    or whatever).
Here's our new Spry-implemented Data Record page:
    http://www.floridata.com/FloriDataBase/ViewXMLPlantRecClient.cfm?FDID=524
One way this page can be accessed from the the poinsettia
PROFILE in the Plant Encyclopedia by clicking the ID number under
the Plant name where it says "Get link to Profile# 524" - here's a
    link to the Profile:
    http://www.floridata.com/ref/e/euph_pul.cfm
You can access the data file representation to use on their
own sites - click the "XML data format" link and you'll get a page
like this from which the data can be cut and pasted:
    http://www.floridata.com/FloriDataBase/getplantxml.cfm?fdid=524
The XML files can also be accessed directly from here:
    http://www.floridata.com/floridatabase/xml/
Datafiles are in the format: [Floridata ID#].xml
Since Poinsettia is FDID#524, it's datafile name would be
    524.xml
If anyone would like a URL to access these XML file to avoid
cross-site scripting security problems in the browser let me know.
I think I have one ready for testing (I'm using CFLOCATION to
redirect to the XML datafiles and I'm not sure that the header info
will be properly set & haven't had time yet to mess with it...)
I really really love Spry and look forward to general release
    version!

Great question - in my particular situation the primary
benefit is that I have a very easy way to "open" access to
FloridataBase without putting addtional stress on our server. Our
botanical data and picture assets can be pulled directly from
Floridata and "skinned" via Spry and used in various ways in 3rd
pary websites (which benefits Floridata because we request
    linkbacks to our other pages).
I've implemented this Plant Record page 3 different ways -
with Spry/Ajax on the browser, XSLT tranforms on the server and
regular old query-based ColdFusion. Each has advantages but for our
situation now (with limited server resources) it makes lots o'sense
to limit the number of queries (data is pretty static anyway) and
pack up all of the plant info in an XML file. In the future I'll
move all of the XML and pics off my server completely onto an
online storage service or somewhere so it doesn't impact my server
    at all.
...so for me, the advantage to Spry/Ajax is that it let's me
share our assets with the Web Community without impacting server
performance or costing me $$$ or too much time :-)
Spry/Ajax doesn't replace other technologies, it just
provides another option - one that is sometimes a perfect solution
under certain circumstances like this which also provides access to
our data to Designers in addition to developers.
I hope this is the kind of answer that you are looking for...
... oh yeah, i just remembered - and Spry is easy to use with
ColdFusion whereas doing XSLT tranformations with CF on the server
is misery & I still haven't figured it out - it was easier just
learning new XSLT functions and doing it all that way...

Did anyone see the post I made about LR 4?Just in case I will post again. I have LR4 I bought last August and just now I am trying to learn this >I have "Classroom in  a Book" for LR4 lots of problems . I have a IMAC version 10.9.3. I tried different Adobe sites. They will not give me the Time of day because they say they no longer support this program. Can anyone here tell me where I can get support for this LR$ that Adobe no longer recognizes. Thank you My name is Jerry S. MY e-mail is [email protected] and phone number is 563-344-7910.

Okay I will try. First I have lost pictures in catalogs and could not find again.I have tried reinstalling LR4 and when I do and reopen LR4 the same catalog appears in the panel and filmstrip and I have no idea how to get rid of that catalog and start over at square one like it was the frist time it was opened. That would be a big help and I think I start over and avoid the same problems.

  • Inexperienced but Learning, with a Bouncing Question

    Hello,
I'm writing because I've tried all I can up to this point, so am seeking out other great resources such as this discussion board.
Everything's worked without a hitch, thus far. Logic Express is good, no problems at all . . . until the time comes for bouncing.
When I attempt it, there is no sound on the files that I choose to "Add to iTunes Playlist". Strange? Thus, I cannot burn any CD's, I'm assuming, until this dilemma is remedied.
I work with a Korg M3 Workstation/Keyboard, hooked up as simply as I know how. I've a very green thumb when it comes to recording, so please bear with me.
My setup is as plain as can be. Everything's connected as I've been instructed by various sources (Logic Guides, Discussion Boards, video tutorials, etc.)
So with that in mind, what am I missing? Any discrete volume controls I'm missing? Bit-rates that need altering? Any particular boxes that need checking? I've tried all the options I know about. Anything would help me at this point.
Everything's arranged in default settings, I suspect, so what do I need to instruct the computer to do so that it will act according to my needs, regarding bouncing?
Thank you so much in advance for your time, whoever might be helping me with this.

    Hi,
if the Korg makes the Sound, it is not inside the Computer. Only the information on how to play back the sound is sent from logic to your korg.
So, to get this sound into your Computer, plug your Korg's *audio outputs* into your macs audio inputs (or, preferabley, get an audio interface which makes thing easier and better quality).
Then, create an audio track in Logic to record the sound that comes out of your korg.
Then, once the sound is recorded inside Logic, you can bounce it. You can only bounce real sound, real audio, not midi information. You can, however, use software instrument tracks, then logic will use them to playback the midi data and create sound.

  • Lesson this week networking with people is good idea, esp looking for job.

I have several Optiplex 9020's Win 8.1 with vPro enabled in the same AD group in our domain, but for some reason Spiceworks does not recognize one machine as having vpro enabled. I am able to connect to this same machine's vpro via RealVNC just fine.
I can't think of why this is as this machine is the same model, with the same firmware, and applies the same GPOs as the other machines where vpro is also enabled and detected by Spiceworks. Everything else about this machine appears fine in Spiceworks.
Furthermore, this was happening on my old Spiceworks install on a different PC and is still happening on a brand new Spiceworks install on a server.
Any clues? I keep wanting to use Spiceworks more but keep running into little glitches like this that make me wary.

    Powershell$UPNs = Import-Csv c:\ps\O365\UserPrincipalName.csvforeach ($UPN in $UPNs) { get-mailbox -identity $UPN.UserPrincipalName -resultsize unlimited | select UserPrincipalName,PrimarySmtpAddress}
Hello,I am passing in a list of UserPrincipalNames through a .csv file into a foreach constructto a get-mailbox. The goal is to extract the PrimarySmtpAddress for each UPN. When I run this, with 2900+ UPNs passed through, I am expecting 2900+ results. However, I stop the process after a bit and have 4000+ results returned, and counting. What am I missing here? • Adaptiva Onesite integration - lessons learned?

I'm working on a project on which adaptiva onesite will be integrated into an existing CM 2012 environment. I was hoping some on here might have integrated adaptiva already and perhaps can share some lessons learned with regard how you managed the rollout
of the client and then the integration of the client management:
    - rolling out of adaptiva client to existing CM clients at all sites
    - Integration or management of ownership (i.e. when and how they made the switch from DP at a location to adaptiva management of the content).
    - Prestaging of OSD content

I log into Azure with a federated account ( organization account ).  This works great for all the services I have used so far, but when I try to use the Azure Machine Learning  product, it seems to require a Microsoft Live account.
Is there a way to log into Azure Machine Learning with a federated account?
I am using my personal account to post this since I could not log in with my federated account to fill in the form for the question.
    Thanks

Sorry, at the moment we only support Live IDs. We are working on adding more support for authentication

  • Asurion is a rip-off

Don't get the insurance.  I paid IN FULL $100 on my daughter's Reality phone when she upgraded.  After 14 months the phone wouldn't charge.  I called customer service and explained the situation.  I was asked if the phone had gotten wet, which it had not.  I was told that I had the TEC (total equpment coverage) and I should call Verizon because it was a defective phone.  I called Verizon and was told that because it was past the 12 month warranty, the phone wasn't covered by Verizon.  All these conversations (but mostly being on hold) took 2 hours of my life!!!!  I should have just dropped it in a bucket of water since it didn't work anyway.  Lesson learned the hard way.

    RosemaryL. wrote:
@budone - I paid for the 2 years when I "upgraded" my daughter's phone.  I was also chastised by Verizon by paying the full amount but this was through an "authorized" Verizon dealer when I upgraded.  It was for an Ally, which an expensive phone.  but for have it not to work after 14 months and neither company to help really *****.
Sounds like maybe the authourized dealer MAY have pulled a fast one and never set you up with Asurion. That is the reason for month to month payments, you can easily win a dispute with Asurion by showing them you are paying for coverage,
But really this is not VZW issue, but with you, the authorized dealer, and Asurion. Good Luck
