Let macbook go to sleep during calibration

hi, I've searched and searched, but could not find the answer to this question:
Is it OK during calibration to let the computer go to sleep BEFORE the battery is empty? In other words, once I've unplugged it, do I have to use it for 3-4 consecutive hours until it shuts down? If I don't use it for 20 mins, it will go to sleep, and I am not sure whether this influences the calibration process.
Thanks!
Feddeg

You need to have your MacBook set to not sleep. This will allow the battery to run down in an even manner. Change the setting in Energy saver to keep it awake. It should only go to sleep or turn off at the lowest battery charge remaining. Letting it go to sleep while calibrating will affect the calibration accuracy.

During sleep, your MacBook consumes a little part of the battery, so it won't harm leaving it in sleep mode. Also, you will be able to start using it quickly, as you don't need to wait until Mac OS X turns on.
I only recommend you to turn off the MacBook if you are not going to use it for days in order to save battery, but apart from that, you don't need to turn it off

  • Os x 10.7.3 MacBook pro sleeps during iTunes playback

Hi since updating to 10.7.3 my MacBook Pro seems to go to sleep during iTunes playback and apple tv viewing. I've changes the sleep setting to 3hrs andinstalled "jiggle" which doesn't seem to work and to be honest it doesn't seem right to a) have to install a 3rd party app to beat the system b) be good for the expensive device to remain on....
Any suggestions as to what is wrong and what  I can do?

  • Macbook Pro drains battery during sleep

i have a new 15 inch macbook pro running 10.6.4. When the power is disconnected and the energy saver is set to put the computer to sleep at a specified time say 5 minutes without use the computer appears to shut down but then the next morning is totally dead...even with a full charge before sleep. The only way to wake it is to do a hard reset...the one thing i have notices is that when it sleeps in this way the sleep light on the front of the computer stays lit...it does not pulse as it does when i manually put it to sleep from the apple icon....any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...already tried resetting everything. thanks

It's not going to sleep if the light on the front isn't pulsing, some task/activity is keeping it awake and then it's just draining the battery before auto shutoff.
If you select  > Sleep yourself or close the lid does it sleep correctly or not ?
If you run Utilities/Console then let the 5 minutes sleep activation go by what does the Console Log show if you click 'All Messages' top left ? That will probably tell you why it's not sleeping.

  • MacBook will not sleep. Suggestions?

    MacBook will not sleep. Suggestions?
    OS 10.6.8

Something quick to try is reseting the paramater RAM, which holds onto things like power settings. Reboot the Mac and after you hear the chimes hold down the following 4 keys:
    Command+Option + P+R
It will take a little longer to bootup as a result of the reset. People suggest also to hold it down until you hear the chimes multiple times (3-4) on the last reboot, let go of the keys and let it boot all the way up.

  • MacBook & MacBook Pro eject sleeping external hardrive

I recently bought a 1Tb 3.5 inch external hardrive (Sun Bright ME740T caddy & WD Caviar Blue 1Tb) which has a powersave mode. The problem is, every time the external hardrive goes into powersave (stops spinning), both my mac laptops (macBook and macbook pro) think it has been ejected and give me the "The disk was not ejected properly..." warning. If I pull the hardrive cable out and plug it in again, the drive is still asleep and the laptop won't recognise it. So, I have to wait 20 mins or so for the drive to reset itself. The external drive will run happily without being plugged in to the laptop and this has also has not happened on a pc. I have changed power settings on the macbook but this hasn't done anything. Are there any other settings I should be looking at?

This is normal behavior. Windows will disconnect the drives too if you put it into suspend to RAM (the Mac "sleep" state) mode. The difference is that Windows, starting with XP, automatically configures drives for rapid ejection like that. It comes at the cost of some performance however. It's one feature I'm sure a lot of people would like to see Apple implement.
Until then, all you can really do is just eject the drives before putting the system into sleep mode, or just don't let it go into sleep mode unless you close the lid, or explicitly put it into sleep mode.

  • Outputting to monitor and shutting Macbook lid causing sleep

Hi - my colleague has just set up a Macbook and is outputting to an external monitor and is running it in dual monitor mode. However when shutting the lid to the Macbook it is sleeping the Macbook and subsequently turning off the external monitor.
We'd like to be able to keep the Macbook shut and obviously run the external monitor but we couldn't find anything in Sys Prefs to let us do that (it's running Leopard).
    Any help appreciated! Thanks

I would advise against this. The laptop dumps heat through the keyboard area and when you close the lid, you keep that heat inside.
What I'd do instead, is turn down the brightness until the backlight is off. This has almost the same effect.

  • Sleeps during DVD playback

Why does OS X.4 display go to sleep during Quicktime playback? It doesn't matter if I'm watching something through FrontRow, Quicktime, or the DVD player.
Specifically, when my MacBook is on battery power, my display sleep comes on within a few minutes. It dims first and then sleeps a short time later. All this is normal behavior EXCEPT I don't want it to sleep while playing a DVD. If I'm watching a DVD, sleep mode should never happen.
My other mac computers do the same thing but its less noticeable since the display sleep delay times are longer.
What settings am I missing or perhaps this is a bug?

I'm sorry my first post was too brief. I should have mentioned my settings before. I'm not a newbie looking for location of Energy Saver settings and I'm not quite sure why it should matter.
What possible combination of settings would allow the computer or display to sleep during DVD or Quicktime playback?
    Settings for: Battery
    Optimization: Normal
Reduce brightness for this power source- checked
    Reduce brightness before sleep- checked
It will never sleep if the mouse is moving regardless of Energy Saver settings, right? Why should the display ever be put to sleep during playback of a DVD? It's like the OS never recognizes DVD & Quicktime video playback as actively using the computer.
    Questions:
Does yours go to sleep during DVD playback?
    What settings are you using?
I suspect this is an OS X.4 bug as I've caught one of my PPC macs going to screen-saver in the middle of playing a Quicktime movie clip.
Thank-you for your help... I really appreciate it even if it sounds otherwise.

  • Macbook goes to sleep every 2-5 seconds

I recently had water damage to my macbook and decided to take it into my own hands and fix it. I took the topcase off and let everything dry, put it back together, and it started to work again. A day later my macbook started acting up and would fall asleep every 2 seconds to the point where i couldn't fully boot my computer.
Has anyone had this problem? And if so, what did you do to fix it?

    Thanks kdd,
If only it would fully boot into the hardware test without the screen turning off or the MacBook going to sleep!
I should probably add- A few months ago I changed the Keyboard/ Trackpad assembly and the sleep status light stopped working. Then about a week before this happened, the MacBook stopped sleeping after the lid was closed.
I'm also noticing now, that the screen backlight turns off for a few seconds before sleeping- this may just be the normal sleep procedure.
Does anyone know the part that controls the sensor of closing the lid on the MacBook? I have a feeling that is what's screwy and needs to be replaced. Is it some type of magnetic sensor?

  • Carry MacBook Pro while sleeping mode

Hello should i leave my macbook pro to sleep while i'm carrying this on my bag?
    is it safe?

I do.  Some people say not to, some say its ok, but I did it in grad school and 2+ years later my mac is fine.  I would turn it off duering long trips and put it to sleep during short ones.

  • Serious problems waking up my MacBook Pro from sleep mode

I have quite frequent problems waking my MacBook Pro from sleep mode - often it results in either a black or a totally scrambled screen and only a hard reset will cure the problem (for this time). I have tried to pinpoint whether a certain program that I use last before putting the computer to sleep is responsible, but all attempts so far have failed. The error seems random, but is very annoying since one in about three or four wake-up actions are affected!
I use Parallels Desktop during the day running Windows XP, and in the evenings I use mainly Safari and Mail under OSX. The only other program always open is Mori - a notes/information management tool.
Anyone with similar problems? Any advice??
    Cheers,
    -J
    MacBook Pro 15   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hello,
I was browsing the 'downloads' section of the Apple support page and I saw a firmware update that might help you out.
It is called the "MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.2" and it is supposed to fix "several Boot Camp, start up, and wake-from-sleep issues on MacBook Pro computers."
    The web address is ( http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macbookproefifirmwareupdate12.html )
If that doesn't fix it call Apple care.
    Good Luck.

  • Cleaned files and apps with "app cleaner" and now MacBook Air turns off during start up. What happens? What can I do? Please help

Cleaned files and apps with "app cleaner" and now MacBook Air turns off during start up. What happens? What can I do? Please help

The "app cleaner" managed to do bad things to the file system so that it is unable to boot any longer.
This is the primary reason I always recommend that any of those so called "cleanup" apps never be used. They do more harm then good.
Try a safe boot by holding down the shifgr key when you hear the boot chime. Maybe that can fix the damage.
    Let us know what happens.

  • Mid-2010 Macbook Pro 13" Sleep Problems

Recently, whenever my Macbook goes to sleep, it is unresponsive when I try to wake it up. I have to hold down the power button for a few seconds and force quit it with no indication that it is off, however, when I press the power button again, it turns on. But it doesn't turn on how it normally should. It does a double-take startup. The disk drive (or whatever it is that makes the sound at the startup) makes the sound and the screen pops up white, but after about a second, it goes out, almost as if it force quit itself, but after about another second, it turns on normally and since I put in a Samsung SSD about 3 months ago, it boots right up in a matter of seconds.
So far, this kind of stuff has been tolerable but probably not good for my computer.
But the worst case happened tonight when I put my Macbook into sleep mode. I was gone for about an hour and 20 minutes and when I got back to my computer and opened up the lid, it was pretty hot and the fans were probably running between 4000 and 5000 rpm. All this was happening when the computer was supposed to be in sleep mode and again, when I opened it up nothing appeared on the screen and it was unresponsive. This time when I force quit, I knew when it worked because I could here the fans turn off. I manually clicked Sleep this time, but I think this happened a few days ago too when I simply closed the lid to put it in sleep mode, however the computer wasn't running this hot.
I'm hoping it isn't the Logic Board and just maybe a software issue, but I have a strong feeling it isn't the software. I'm running Mavericks 10.9.5 so I'm hoping that an upgrade to Yosemite might fix it, but I doubt it.
I've already had to replace the battery, logic board, disk drive, trackpad, and I'm on my 3rd hard drive, and this computer is only 4 and a half years old. Thankfully, Apple Care covered most of the costs and basically none of the issues were due to my neglect, but it is out of warranty now. I would like to think I just got a bad computer right out of the box.

  • Is there a way to disable previously viewed iMessages from appearing as Messages notifications when waking my MacBook Pro from sleep?

Is there a way to disable previously viewed iMessages from appearing as Messages notifications when waking my MacBook Pro from sleep?  Regardless of whether I am using iMessage from  my iPhone or iPad, when I open my MBP, I get attacked by Messages notifications for iMessages I've obviously already seen or responded to.  Is there a way to change this?  Are others having this issue?
Additionally,  previous iMessages sent or received from those  devices sometimes don't populate into the Messages window on the MBP.  I haven't been able to identify when or what causes this; sometimes it just doesn't seem to work (and I verified that the messages sent/received were, in fact, iMessages and not SMS).
Thanks - any help or insight would be appreciated!

First you need to determine what laptop model you have; then we can help you. A Mac Book Pro cannot run OS 9.1.
With your Mac booted up, click on the  at the far left of the menu. Then click on About This Mac. It will show what version of OS  you are running. What is the version?
A MBP will be running something like version 10.x.
If you are running version OS 9.x, you don't have a Mac Book Pro.
     Cheers, Tom
