Letterboxing not wanted -- how to omit?
Hi everyone, I've searched the forum and can't seem to find an answer to my question.
I am using Final Cut Pro X to produce a movie that will only be used on an iPad 3.
Because this movie will never be viewed on any other device, I do not want letterboxing -- I want the movie to fill the entire iPad screen. The letterboxing eats up a lot of space at the top and bottom.
I have tried creating my movie using various formats and resolutions. No matter which options I select, it looks the same when I play the movie on an iPad -- a hefty unused black strip at the top and bottom.
I should note that this movie is actually just photos, titles, and transitions -- no video. Since I can scale and crop photos, it seems to me that there should be some way to fill the entire iPad 3 screen. I just can't figure out the secret.
Any instrux or tips would be sincerely appreciated.
I'm going to recind my original suggestion (except for the pan & scan with the aspect change; and I apologize for the confusion) and go for this one:
In the Project Inspector (move out to the project level) and with the project selected (you might want to duplicate the project before changing the resolution)
In the Inspector (just below on the right, specifically), click on the wrench icon ("Modify Project Properties")
Change the Video Properties to Format: 2K Resolution 2048 x 1556
Share > Apple Devices > iPad (you'll notice in the "preview" of the iPad that the video now fills the entire iPad screen.)
Apparently, for HD video formats, FCPX treats all non-square pixels as anamorphic and the output will still be 16:9 for iPad (and letterboxed). I was unable to find a way to force square pixel aspect... (if somebody knows how -- I'd like to hear about it!!!!) If you have Compressor, you can probably force the pixel aspect ratio to square. You can set up a 960x720 square pixel aspect project in Motion, but the above works just fine without having to spend more money on extra software.
Selecting 2K forces a square pixel aspect (or nearly so - it's the "reference resolution"), and if you check the Summary in the Share dialog, the H.264 generated will be 948x720 (but there is no pillarboxing). Another option is to go to 4K 4096x3112 but the result is exactly the same for the 2K settings I outlined.

HerbetteI'm not exactly sure what you are seeing and what is happening, but try closing the App Store app, and then reset the iPad. See if that takes you out of that screen and allows you to navigate freely again.
Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the App Store app and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -

Probably your Mac cannot understand the Windows html format, please try the following to see if it helps:
In your PC, export the bookmarks in html as you did in your post. After you have saved it, change the name of the file to “bookmarks.html” and save it again.
In your Mac, import the saved file as you posted. -
Apps shows two updates I do not want, how do I delete them?
Being a new iPhone user I am somewhat confused about how to use my phone. My problem is that The App Store on my phone shows two updates available, iTunes on my laptop also shows those updates. I do not what them and would like to delete them but am unsure how to do so.
Any help would be appreciated.

H53Okay I maybe a little green when it comes to using this new phone but the one app will not download even when connected to wifi. I was in town yesterday near free wifi so I thought I would let the updates download, well one did and while the other was in the process a message came up part way through saying it could not complete. I exited the App Store and the updates notification was gone but today it came back wanting to update the previously failed download. The update is for Deer Hunter Reloaded and is over 500MB, I originally got the app at someone's suggestion.

Although Apple is not obligated to provide a refund, there have been many cases reported here where they will do so if it is explained that it was an unauthorized purchase by a minor. So it is worth a try, which you can do at iTunes Customer Service.
Going forward, as FanBoy suggests, set all the restrictions. It would also be a good idea to take your credit card off the account, and just load it a little at a time with gift cards, so that your exposure to unauthorized purchases is minimized.

I have many songs and playlists in my iTunes account. I do not want all of them synced to my iPhone 5S, but that has happened via iCloud, and it has caused a storage problem on my phone. How do I select only certain playlists to be synced to my iPhone?
You need to start over with Music. On the iPhone Music screen uncheck sync music. Also, on the Summary screen uncheck "Manually manage music and videos", then sync and it should clear off your phone.
Next, choose the music you want to sync. If you want to fit more on check "Convert higher bit rate songs to 128 kbps AAC". This will reduce quality slightly, but it won't be noticable unless you are using $300 headphones. -
How do you get music off of your Ipod that is not wanted?

Use your iTunes preferences (on the top menu bar: iTunes->preferences->ipod
(with your iPod connected to the computer) and change the transfer preferences to specific play lists or set it to manual update (see below for deleting individual songs). I have several play lists on iTunes which I automatically update to the iPod.

My daughter accidentally purchased something from an in app purchase, I haven't got the £2.99 in my account until tuesday, and do not want the in app purchase, my account wont log in now even to download free apps. How do I get my account to log in again and function properly, I shouldn't have to wait until I have a meagre £2.99 in my account again do I because I need the app store for other apps etc and updating, even if it is only 3 days I want my account back, I do not want nor did I give permission for the in-app purchase and would be happy for it to be returned/credited back so I can have MY account available for my IPhone.
Please can someone give me more information or let me know how else I can get my account working again, before pay day on tuesday.

am trying to import Firefox bookmarks from a Windows machine into Firefox on an Apple. I do not want to use Safari. How do I do this?
I have, on my HP laptop, running XP Pro, using Firefox 4.0, went under bookmarks to show all bookmarks. A window opens up that says library. I then go to import and back up, and I choose export HTML. I then move this file over to my new Mac Pro. On my Mac Pro I also have Firefox 4.0. I go up under bookmarks, show all bookmarks, import HTML. It lets me browse and I find the file on the desktop, I select it then nothing happens. I am not interested in using Safari. I would like to continue using Firefox. However, as an experiment, I followed the same process except on my Apple computer I opened up Safari and tried to import in the Firefox bookmarks. It came up with an error saying the file could not be accessed. I then thought perhaps the file got corrupted, so I went back to my Windows Firefox and re-exported the bookmarks again. Same problem. So, am I creating the bookmarks incorrectly on my Windows machine?

Firefox crashes or seizes up when there are too many tabs and applications open, and causes my computer to crash or seize up. I use task manager to close Firefox or I restart my computer. Then, when Firefox restarts again, it automatically re-opens all the tabs and applications that caused the computer to seize or crash in first place. This is a waste of my time. I want Firefox to reopen to my homepage even if it crashes. I am willing to lose information to have Firefox reopen to a low-memory homepage. How do I do this?
Set the Integer pref browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes to 0 on the about:config page to get the about:sessionrestore page immediately with the first restart after a crash has occurred or the Task Manager was used to close Firefox.

How do I remove all traces of 'album'? I do not want artwork, blank place holders, titles or artists sorted by album? I just want my music listed by title, artist or genre.
1, you can't at the moment, though with iOS 5 in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :

2, by removing it from you synced from and re-syncing. Only photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad (either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view)
3, the location of the photos that you synced to the iPad should be listed on the iPad's Photos tab when connected to your computer's iTunes.
4, you can copy the photos from your iPad to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 . You should also be able to delete them from the iPad as part of the transfer process to your computer, and it's then your choice whether to add them to your sync photo list so as to copy them back to the iPad. Copying them to your computer would allow you to organise them into folders and therefore be able to sync them back into separate albums.
5, I don't use Dropbox either. There are some third-party browser apps in the iTunes App Store that allow you to download pages so that you can view them when offline e.g. Atomic Web (the whole page is saved within Atomic Web, it doesn't place a photo into the Photos app)
6, deleting content should help. If you remove an app from your iPad then you also remove the content that it's got on the iPad - so if you then decide to reinstall it back onto the iPad then you will need to manually add back any content that you want in it. None of the Apple built-in apps (including Photos) can be removed from the iPad -

If you bought the machine new yourself, and did not enter a password when configuring it, leave the field blank.
