Letters missing in menus

Hi all,
since yesterday I have the problem that in almost all apps random letters are missing in the userinterface or in text that I type. The whitespace for the letter is there but the actual letter isn't. When I take a screenshot, the letters are also missing
I am using a MacBook Pro with all updates installed.
Any thoughts?

P.S.: I actually just checked, and it seems that I am only missing the p's....

I have the same problem. Both times I repaired permissions and restarted and it went away but this is the second time in a week it's happened to me. I have a sneaking suspicion it has to do with a bad font and I recently loaded suitcase fusion. Have you?

InDesign CS4: Missing Toolbars/Menus on MacBook Pro
The program has been working fine for more than year, but all of a sudden the menus and toolbars have disappeared and I can't find a way to turn them back on. The program is USELESS without them since you can't do anything.
Everything is turned on (visible) under Edit > Menus... but when you're working in the actual program, NOTHING!
When opening .indd files in InDesign I get a missing plug-ins error (LILO.APLN) and then this warning appears: The following hyphenation services are not installed on this system - Proximity (English: USA). Uh, watchu talkin' bout InDesign?
    1    I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software
    2    I've tried reseting my preferences (http://forums.adobe.com/message/2339388)
    4    I've tried installing the latest update (6.0.6)
    5    Keyboard shortcuts do not work to restore the menus
    6    I changed the screen resolution to see if the toolbars were hiding of screen...
          and guess what? They weren't!
I don't believe it is a problem with the permissions since there is only one user account on this computer and it is an administrator account. No changes have been made to the user profiles since the machine was first set up!
This sounded EXACTLY like the problem I am having (http://indesignsecrets.com/rebuilding-indesign-preferences.php), but the solution (download the 6.0.4 patch) is not going to fix things for me ~ if 6.0.6 didn't clear it up, 6.0.4 sure as hell ain't gonna do it
Oh, and I'm a total novice when it come to troubleshooting (I don't have a f*cking clue what I'm doing and have only gotten this far thanks to my limited ability to Google -- hooray for opposable thumbs!... also, I tried calling Adobe tech support and I couldn't understand a single word of what that guy was saying... the only thing that came out clear was "you're gonna have to pay for help or seek it out in the forums").
So if you've got any advise that might help solve my InDesign issues, please explain it as you would to a child... seriously

I read through the thread you suggested, but since I'm not computer-savvy enough to match up the Windows based advise with my MAC, I went straight for the cleaner tool option. I wiped CS4 from my computer, and with hope in my heart I reinstalled the entire suite. As the progress bar neared completion, rainbows exploded across the sky, children laughed and angels got their wings... but as soon as I opened InDesign the whole world went to sh*t again. The toolbars are still MIA. This is CRAZY... they were there last week. No major changes have ocurred that would suddenely make the program stop working... save for the fact that someone has obviously placed a gypsy curse on me. WTF!

Missing all menus and buttons from Folio Builder

I had a problem with Folio Builder panel when change ID password. I re instal both plugin again( FP and FProdTool), but this did not help. After reading the forum about solving the problem >
1) Quit InDesign and any other CS apps
2) Use the Activity Monitor to quit the CS5ServiceManager or CS5.5Service Manager
3) Next delete this file based on version:
/Users/lnegi/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CS5ServiceManager/preference/csxs2.pref
/Users/lnegi/Library/Application Support/Adobe/CS5.5ServiceManager/preference/csxs2.pref
4) Then remove this item from the Keychain Access based on version:

To remove from the keychain:
Navigate to /Applications/Utilities and launch the Keychain Access.app
If the lock icon in the upper left appears locked, click on it and enter your password to unlock it.

Select any matches and press the delete key.

i'm disappoint ...after the second day, I can not work with my DPS.. afte trying this:
1. Uninstall Folio Builder Panel and Folio producer Tools ( Seems you might have already followed this step). Use Spotlight to serach for Uninstall Folio builder Panel and Uninstall Folio producer Tools and then uninstall repectively.
2. Uninstall Adobe Air.
3. Restart your Machine.
4. Reinstall Adobe Air from get.adobe.com/air
5. Reinstall Folio Builder Panel and Folio Producer Tools.

Russian mnemonic keyboard three letters missing: щ ч э - in Office 2013 in Windows 8 Pro or Standard and Windows 7 Pro or Standard

The issue I believed is Windows specific. It only appears to work correctly on a Windows XP system. I can get the keys to work on Windows 7 or Windows 8 system.

On Windows 8 there is a mnemonic Russian keyboard.
Unfortunately there are three letters which I can not find: щ, ч and э.
These three letters exist in the standard Russian keyboard. They are at the following location (in the US keyboard): o,x and '.
I also did a test on a Windows 7 machine running office 2013 and still the letters are missing as described.
The client explained without these three letters the mnemonic keyboard is useless

I think it is by design. You can use Preview to show the keyboard layout.

Occasional letters missing in pdf document created in Acrobat XI Pro

I have been working on a pdf document created from Indesign By Acrobat XI Pro that will be for online download. The first version was fine. Links had to be added and some of the text coloured. After edits occasional letters have gone missing throughout the document. Why on earth is this happening? I now have to go through the entire document with a fine toothcomb before submitting it to my client again. It doesn't make me look good!

I suspect that you somehow deleted the embedding of the fonts. Check the document properties and be sure all fonts are embedded.

Letters missing from track info

My nano (3g) is about two months old. Recently, random letters have been missing from the track information for various songs. For example, 'Rebellion' is shown as 'ebellion' and 'Queen - Princes of the Universe' is displayed as 'ueen - rinces of the niverse'. As shown, it's always the first letter that's omitted. Has anyone encountered this problem and/or know how to solve it? The iPod is otherwise fine.

Never heard of that one before. Curious though, it is always the first letter of each word regardless if they are capitalized or not? Or do all capitalized letters go away regardless if they are at the front of a word or not?
Have you tried performing a restore on the iPod?

Misc. Text letters missing everywhere!!!!

Email messages all of a sudden missing first letters and they aren't consistent. Also, can't open Photoshop CS2 with an error "unrecoverable error something has prevented the text engine from being initialized" and Disk Utility hasn't fix it, help?

Create a new account, name it "test" and see how your apps work in that User acct? (That will tell if your problem is systemwide or limited to your User acct.) This account is just for test, do nothing further with it.
Open System Preferences >> Accounts >> "+" make it an admin account.
Let us know and we'll troubleshoot this further.
EDIT: Just check PS and see if it opens and any other app that is giving you issues. (Not necessary to check mail, you'll have to set up prefs again) It sounds like a font issue.

Letters missing in file names

so thankfully this is not happening to me, but my friend is having a hard time. Whenever he is online, many pages are missing "O"s and "A"s. I thought maybe his browser was acting up amd as an experiment downloaded Firefox. Which is when I realized that the file on his desktop read Firef_x.
curious. so i created a new folder called "aaaooo," and the folder name read aaoo.
repaired permissions, and it's still happening. any ideas what could be causing this problem? he is on the same OS as I and doesn't have applecare (typical).

Missing letters are often caused by damaged or defective fonts resulting in a
corrupted font cache. Does the system have any 3rd party fonts installed? Does the font checking tool report problems?

You can try deleting the font cache using atsutil or a 3rd party tool.

You'll notice that multiple places have missing letters, and even in the terminal you've got a bizarre substitution of n->s

Please see the forum regulations for image sizes. Also, it is a good idea to direct people to what they should see in an image. That was a huge image, and as far as I can tell (after looking around it for a while) only the smallest part of it in the taskbar actually exemplifies what you are referring to. Is this correct? (edit: I now see your note about the terminal n -> s too).

OS X help - filenames some letters missing; applications unexpectedly quit

This is the email I sent to [email protected] below. They sent me back an email saying they don't answer questions over email. Then why have an email??
Any help is greatly appreciated.
I just received my Macbook last month, and now there is some kind of
software problem going on. After 2 days and several restarts, it
(crosses fingers) is working ok for the moment. But here is what was
happening:
- Some of the widgets disappeared from the dashboard (i.e. dictionary
and Rot Rox).
- Many of the letters were missing from things: like Finder was
"nder", shut down was "hut do", etc. this also affected other things
like webpages, etc
- iChat and Safari kept unexpectedly quitting
- everything ended up messing up and there was no text in the boxes
that would pop up on the screen.
Can you please tell me what was happening with my computer and what I
should do if this happens again???

to be honest i have no idea what happened to your mac. it could be various things like a bad harddisk or ram but i will try to give you some assistance.
- did you repair permissions in the disk utility?
- did you repair your harddisk from the install cd utility?
and if that won't help (thinking of oyur corrupted file names it won't) you could maybe try to do an archive and install from your install cds. this installs the mac os again but preserves your user settings / or a normal install which wipes your hd.
...and if that won't help i guess you'll have to bring your macbook to an apple store to have them check it.
...but always make a backup of your important data!

HELP! letters missing in os, mail, safari and finder apps?????????????

This is so weird . . . I was in Safari when my computer locked up. I restarted and in my Mail, Finder, Dock and Safari applications letters were missing from the words and in some cases there was only one letter appearing . . . so, for example, in my Dock only the letter 'r' was showing up above my Dreamweaver icon??? I've restarted twice - didn't help . . .

Missing other menus

I am missing the other template menus in Encore. I only have general as an option to set from. How do I get the other template options?

John and I are but fellow users. Even though we are willing to help, Adobe support (free for install issues I believe), will, under some conditions, log on to your machine and fix things. You might consider that. I'll bet John will send you a link shortly after I post this!
To help you get the context, here are the big picture steps - do them in this order.
Install Encore (You have done this).
Download and install the CS6 Premeire and Encore Functional content (see below). (I think you did this, but I am not sure.)
Download, uncompress, and move the CS6 Encore full library content. (I don't think you did this - make sure you did step 2 correctly before moving on to this step.)
Re step 2:
Download the file in the top part of John's first link. Assuming you are windows, the file you download is:
PremiereProCS6ContentWin.zip
Unzip this file and you have a folder called:
CS6 Functional Content
Inside that folder are:
PremierePro_6_Content_LS7.exe (the file you "run")
and
PremierePro_6_Content_LS7.7z (the file with the content, that you leave alone the installer - the file you "run," uses this.
So execute ("run"), PremierePro_6_Content_LS7.exe
It will uncompress a bunch of files and put them where they go.
When you open Encore and look at the library, you should see all the categories of menu templates.
It occurs to me that you may not be looking in the right place for categories other than "general."
You select Library "sets" or "categories" (you are seeing only "general"), with the drop down in this image:
If you are looking there and don't see anything or only "General," check to see where Encore preferences say the Encore library should be located:

I noticed this, too, but found a "workaround" (until Nokia updates their firmware to include this function). USE the "Notes" APPLICATION, OPEN a “New Note”, then "touchpad" in the blank-lined area to start entering text. The default "mini QWERTY keyboard" will pop up (well, that's what I have set for my text input). In the lower right-hand corner of the "mini QWERTY keyboard" (also in the "Full Screen QWERTY keyboard" OR the "Handwriting keyboard", if you have either of these set for your default text input), there is a small image of a keyboard. When selected, a MENU pops up, allowing you to SELECT an option for an "ALPHANUMERIC KEYPAD" for text input into the "Notes" application. You can get the numerical correspondence for spelled-out phone numbers like 1-800-iLIKE-YOU (1-800-454-3968) [I don't know or care if that's a "real" number, I'm just using it here as an example] and can just remember them and input them manually into your “Dialer” application, or, you can “type” it directly into the blank “New Note” you already have open, SELECT and EDIT->COPY the number into the phone’s memory, then switch to the “Dialer” application (PRESS and HOLD the WHITE middle button on the lower touchpad until the "open items" display appears, allowing you to select the HOME or the previously-opened "Dialer" application), open the "Dialer" menu and EDIT->PASTE the previously-copied number into the “Dialer” application. Press the “Dial” function icon and the number will be appropriately dialed. Whew! It gets a little easier with practice, especially if you use the GREEN BUTTON on the lower left of the phone’s touchpad, HOLDING IT DOWN until the “Voice Command” application initiates, then say out loud “Notes”, and the phone will switch to the “Notes” application with relative ease, so you’re just a few seconds away from having a “real” alphanumeric keypad that can be used to “decode” those alphanumeric phone numbers many businesses advertise. Missing Excel menus in Report Generation function palete

Hello all,
I have loaded (and relaoded) the report generation toolkit into Labview. What happens is that I only get the options for selecting MS word vi's in the report generation palete (listed under the Programming menu). How do I get the Excel VI's to show up in this palete? I realize that there is probably some sort of *.mnu file that I need to insert into the menu folder...does anybody know where I can find this file? I have tried dropping the excel mnu files (from the report generation install disk) into the menu folder but this dosen't work. Any other ideas or suggestions?
Note the folder path I am using: C:\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\menus\categories\Programming\_NI Report

What version of the Report Generation Toolkit are you using? Version 1.1 and earlier are not compatible with LabVIEW 8.x, particularly as far as the palettes are concerned. I believe you can get RGT 1.1.1 from the Upgrade Advisor. It is a free upgrade for RGT 1.1 users, and it is fully compatible with LabVIEW 8.x.
But if you are already using RGT 1.1.1, I really don't know what the problem could be. In order to see the Excel subpalette under the Report Generation palette, the following files need to be present:
C:\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\vi.lib\addons\_office\excel.llb
C:\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\vi.lib\addons\_office\_exclsub.llb
C:\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\menus\Categories\Programming\plat-nireport.mnu
C:\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\menus\default\excel.mnu
C:\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\menus\default\exceladv.mnu
C:\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\menus\default\excelfrm.mnu
C:\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\menus\default\excelgen.mnu
C:\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\menus\default\excelpic.mnu
C:\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\menus\default\excmacro.mnu
Make sure all these files are present. Note that I have not tried installing RGT to a non-default LabVIEW installation (in your case, the "Program Files" folder is not used). I assume things should work just the same, but I am currently trying this out on my test machine. I'll let you know if I discover any problems. Meanwhile, let me know if my suggestions are useful.
