Level 0 backup coming up as DB INCR in v$rman_backup_job_details view

Version ===> 10.2.0.4.0
I've run a LEVEL 0 backup for my DB for the first time. But when i query
SQL> select status, input_type From v$rman_backup_job_details order by start_Time descIt is showing
STATUS                  INPUT_TYPE
COMPLETED               DB INCRShouldn't input_type come up as
DB FULLwhen i do a LEVEL 0 backup?

Does file name format actually matter?
I had clearly given
level 0in my command, which is
run
backup as compressed backupset incremental level 0 database tag 'full'  plus archivelog delete all input;

  • Tablespace level backup using data pump

    Hi,
Im using 10.2.0.4 on RHEL 4,
I have one doubt, can we take a tablespace level backup using data pump,
bt i dnt wnt to use it for transportable tablespace.
    thanks.

Yes, you can only for the tables in that tablespace only.
Use the TABLESPACES option to export list of tablespaces.*here all the tables in that tablespaces will be exported*.
and you must have the EXP_FULL_DATABASE role to use tablespace mode.
    Have a look at this,

  • Issue of offline OS Level Backup

Our system config - MySAP ECC6.0, Solman 4.0, SQL Sever 2005.
This is in regards of Offline and OS level Backup being taken thru Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) by us on monthly basis.
It is observed that the TSM do not take the open files or the files which are active and being used by the system,
at the time of taking the backup, although the SAP and MS SQL instance are down.
It is further observed that mostly windows system files (C:) are not backed up, since most of the files
Are system files and are active.
Hence in other words the system is not taking the complete OS level backup and would be not be useful and Workable, when required to restore, in emergency
Kindly suggest some suitable and reliable solution as soon as possible.
    Thanks & Regards
    Rupali S

Sorry to post this issue, have noticed that this is a known issue with TSM using on 64Bit, TSM with next release will have options to backup open files as well.

  • RMAN 0 level backup failed while releasing channels at end.

In RMAN 0 level backup, when it's about to finish, reports an error as releasing channels. It backed up about 98% datafiles.
Is this backup is usable. As we can not affort to take backup again as it's a big terabyte databse.
    Please suggest.
    Thanks in advance.
    Aj.

Do you have release stmts in the script
From 9i onwards oracle Release the channels automatically upon backing up, so you can remove the release channel lines if you have and try it

  • OS Level Backup

    Dear Team,
Our SAP ECC 6.0 is running on HP Unix . I want to take OS level backup .
So that my OS ,SAP Installation, Oracle Installation ,SAP Data File every thing . I want to take backup.
Right now I am using backup via DB13 . In this only SAP Data, Redolog & Control file backup is comming.
    Thanks
    RAJ

    you worte:
I want to take OS Level backup So that if any file system crased or Hdd Crased. I can restote from backup, If ant Perameter or scrept has bben modified in Unix level . I can restore that one.
I do not remember seeing so many typos... except in my own responses
anyways, talk to your Unix admin. he knows which solution is the best and he would be responsible of bringing back the OS, you are responsible for reinstall SAP, Oracle and restoring DB.

  • Third level backup recommendation

I’m planning on doing a 3rd level backup on my MBP using a USB drive, like WD Air with time machine. The USB drive will be kept offsite and only be plugged in to the MBP once a month to get a differential backup.
Does anyone have any suggestion as to what USB drive to use. Any other suggestions will also be helpful.

As Tom mentioned, there have been reported problems with WD and Mavericks.  Problems have been with WD's software, so if you have a WD, Partition and Format the disk with Disk Utility and do not use WD's software (it's not needed).
Not much choice in drives these days, there are only a few manufactures.  Get a disk that's 2-3 times larger than the disk you're backing up.  For what you're using it for, a Portable External Hard Drive would be a good place to start looking 1T and 2T drives are now afordable, take a look at Newegg and http://dealmac.com/c51/Computers/Storage/

  • Windows could not start block level backup engine service

    Hello,
                  Im
trying to perform system state backup for one of the server its unable to run. Last week we have performed the system state backup without any issue.
    Operating System:2008
OS Version: R2 Small Business Server 2011 x64 Edition Build 7600
    RAM-32 GB
    Following event ID is reported in the logs;
    Log Name:      Application
    Source:        Microsoft-Windows-Backup
    Date:          7/2/2013 2:25:35 PM
    Event ID:      754
    Task Category: None
    Level:         Information
    Keywords:
    User:          SYSTEM
    Computer:      ABC
The Block Level Backup Engine service has stopped.
When we try to restart the Block Level Backup Engine service we get error as “Windows could not start the Block Level Backup Engine Service on Local Computer.
Error 0x800700b7: Cannot create a file when that file already exists.”
I have already restarted Virtual disk and Volume shadow copy service, but no luck.
Any help in resolving this issue will be much appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Keshava

    All,
    Here is the solution which worked for me ;
Services.msc >properties page of Block Level Backup Service Engine
    Changed to Log On tab
Instead of Log On as Local System Account changed to Log On as
[email protected] (select the account with admin creds), entered the password of admin and closed the properties page.
Now restart the Block Level Backup Service Engine and re-run the job, backup completes without any issue.
    Thank you
    Keshava

  • File/Block level backup for AWS Amazon EC2 instances?

Block level backups would just be the snapshots.  Mostly you don't want to do full backups of cloud instances, it's ideologically incorrect.  File level backups are different.  Find the things that need to be backed up, like configuration files and database data and back that up.  You can use something like Unitrends or StorageCraft.  Or you can manage this yourself.  Script MySQL to back itself up locally, transfer the backups off with RSYNC or similar tools.

We have a few EC2 instances running on AWS and using snapshots going to a different region as a DR solution, but we don't have a backup solution. I'd like to setup a backup in AWS to backup other EC2 instances. I need the ability to restore MS-SQL and Files to these EC2 instances.
    What are others using?

  • Would system level backups be acceptable for storing old db backups?

Lets say that you use RMAN to make and then store backup images on a centralized on-line storage media. Access to recent backup data can be acquired via the online storage but eventually data must be removed or archived to another media or storage.
Would it be an acceptable practice to use system level backups (backups of the whole on-line storage server) and then use that as the source to retrieve archived database data?
If not, can you list some reasons why this would not be acceptable?
    Thanks

Thanks for the quick response. The scenario that I was describing entails having the full RMAN backup images including archive logs on on-line storage media. This centralized storage media may be storing many instances and for each instance there may be several backup images.
I thought that since each database may have it own archiving requirements that lumping all of the changed files from the whole online storage server and making a copy of that might introduce issues when it came time to trying to restore data for a specific database.
I guess the main issue (if it is even an issue) would be system-level vs database-level archiving to tape.
If RMAN is used to store backup images online and then those need to be moved to tape is this usually done at the database level or system level?
While I know Oracle internals pretty well I don't have much experience in best practices for backing up database to tape and needing to get to that data in the future.
    Thanks again.

  • Incremental level backup

    If I take incremental level 0 backup on Monday, full database image copy backup on Tuesday, incremental level 1 on Wednesday and Incremental level 2 backup on Thursday;
Can i do complete recovery on Friday by applying incremental level 1 & 2 backup on the image copy backup???

Can i do complete recovery on Friday by applying incremental level 1 & 2 backup on the image copy backup???There is no incremental level 2 backup in oracle, only level zero and level one. Or do you mean a second incremental level one?
Your first incremental level 1 will have all the changes since the incremental level 0. The fact that you took an image copy will not be considered by that backup.
was your image copy taken when the db was cleanly shut down? Did it include the control files?

  • VSS error on host-level backups

We have recently virtualized a Windows Server 2003 SP2 server into a Hyper-V 2008 R2 cluster, and as we're running DPM 2012 R2 we have to protect it on host-level as there's no agent support for W2003 in DPM 2012 R2. However, I keep getting the error below
when running a consistency check on the server:
DPM encountered a retryable VSS error. (ID 30112 Details: VssError:The writer experienced a transient error.  If the backup process is retried, the error may not reoccur (0x800423F3).
There are a lot of VSS writers with "waiting for completion" status after a snapshot - System writer, NTDS, IIS, and FRS. The Hyper-V writer gets a retryable error on the host, but other VM's on the same host works just fine. We have
also tried to move this VM to another Hyper-V host but with the same result. KB940349 is already installed on the server but it doesn't seem to help.
Any ideas or suggestions are much appreciated!

  • Time machine backup coming up short

After yet another of Time Machine to keep my backups, I've had to again start a whole new backup of my files.
I noticed that Time Machine shows "Backing up: XXGB of 637GB.
I've got two drives on my MBP (SSD bootup and HDD data drive).  If I click "Get Info" the used space equals 195GB + 524GB, so a total of 719GB.
I've set up TM to backup all files (i.e. there are no files excluded from the backup).  So any idea why TM is coming up short by 82GB?

Regardless of whether or not it's supported by Apple, it is a touted feature of the Airport Extreme.
Some Apple Store employees have told customers it will work, but it's not "touted" otherwise.  It's not mentioned, either way, on the online AppleStore page (several of us have been trying to get that changed for years).
And yes, as noted in the link, it does work for some folks for some period of time.  But most will, sooner or later, find their backups corruped, often beyond repair. Thus the recommendation to keep secondary backups.
Also, considering even the Time Capsule HDD uses an internal USB interface to make itself available to the networking hardware, I'm having trouble seeing why using an external device would be different given all other things being equal:
That's the rub; they're not equal.  The hardware inside the Airport Extreme is not the same as in the Time Capsule.  Apple won't say, of course, but those who've taken them apart think the buffer in the Airport is too small, and/or the chips aren't capable of as much verification and recovery as the TC's innards.  Thus the corruption problems, especially when there are WIFI or power issues.
We heard the same thing when Snow Leopard came out; those who thought they'd been doing fine for a while under Leopard and then had trouble some days after upgrading to Snow Leopard were convinced it was something changed in SL.  Ditto just about every "point" upgrade in both Leopard and Snow Leopard, and we'll no doubt see it when 10.7.1, etc., are relased.
Perhaps the next upgrade of the Airport Extreme will use the same hardware as the TC, or at least be improved.

  • RMAN - Schema level backup ??

We have a production system in which one schema is getting bigger day by day(40GB).
We want this schema in our development instnaces once in a week atleast. As export for this is taking time we want to go for rman setup for faster process.
1)Will rman backup speed up the process ?
2)Is there any way we can take the rman backup for a schema and not for the whole database.
3)If yes what are the steps for this setup and steps to use this in the develpment database?
Production is on hp-ux and dev on windows.

1)Will rman backup speed up the process ?It depends. If they will be backuped only 40Gb, will be relatively fast.
2)Is there any way we can take the rman backup for a schema and not for the whole database.Schema No, but if the schema objects is in a single tablespace one, can be make the tablespace backup
3)If yes what are the steps for this setup and steps to use this in the develpment database?Follow the steps to backup the tablespace.
