Levels no longer work in Photoshop CS5.1

Levels don't work in my installation of CS 5.1. The dialog comes up but adjustment don't change the image. I reinstalled CS 5.1 but that didn't fix things. Any ideas on what I can do?

OMG - preview was unchecked, as was my attention. Thanks for that. I never conciously uncheck preview in any dialog and have assumed over the years that it was the default mode. Lesson learnt...

If you can afford it, go with a Crucial M4 SSD.
If your in a limited budget, go with a Seagate Momentus XT 750GB.
The SSD will be the fastest one and the Seagate being faster than a conventional drive.
If you decide to go conventional, avoid the Western Digital Scorpio Blue. They tend to have issues with Macbooks.

in test/trial movie and [ action script ] (stop) is not working - is my only resolution to call adobe tomorrow?

i figured out that the text was somehow keeping the stop and other code snippets from working - once i eliminated the text layer, my movie works properly --thxs
yesterday the stop() snippet was not working at all - text was not the problem - ?? there was never an error message - the debug message said that i had no action script.- now all is well -

Edit: Touchscreen not working with photoshop cs5

When using photoshop cs5, I am unable to use any tool properly when using the touch screen.
Using the touchscreen, I am able to select the tool and other buttons, but when i attempt to draw with the brush tool, dragging a stylus across the screen does not create a line, and only visual feedback is seen. Dots can be drawn, ad the only way a line can be created is to double-click and drag which does not always work and is irritating to use.
Please help, I have tried searching for a long while and even contacted computer support but they directed me here. I am unable to find a suitable driver, as suggested on the troubleshooting page or any other solution. Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks.

This have been touch on many times here. There are two api use to support touch type devices like tablets and touch screens. The API that many touch screen tablet and computers use lack features Adobe Pen support uses example the API does not support things like pen tilt. Therefore Adobe does not support this API. You need a device driver for you touch screen that user the API Adobe uses for tablet support.

Windows "Open with..." not working for Photoshop/CS5.5

I use the "Open with..." command in the Windows right-click context menu all the time to open .jpg and other image files in Photoshop. I don't want to directly associate .jpgs, etc, to Photoshop because most of the time I just want to view them quickly in Windows Photo Viewer. But every once in a while, I need to open one in PS, so I had been using the "Open with..." menu command. This worked fine in every version of CS that I've ever used.
Until, all of a sudden, when I installed CS5.5, "Open with..." no longer works. Right-clicking on a .jpg, for instance, doesn't even show Photoshop as a valid option for an application in which to open the file (not in the "Recommended Programs" list or even the "Other Programs" list). So I have to go and browse for an "Additional Program". I'm using Windows 7 64-bit, but whether I choose the photoshop.exe in Program Files or Program Files (x86), the jpg still just opens in the default application (Windows Photo Viewer).
Same for PDFs (opening in either Photoshop or Illustrator).
PSDs open fine, directly, when I double-click the file.
This really seems like a CS issue, since "Open with" still works fine for other non-Adobe applications.
How can I get my "Open with" menu to "see" Photoshop again as a valid option and pass the filename correctly so that it actually opens the file?
Anybody have any ideas?

Nope. I'd done that many many times, and it never "stuck". No matter how many times I browsed for the exe, whether I checked "Always use the selected program..." or not, the jpg still opened in Photo Viewer.
Turns out, this thread showed up on the "More like this" widget in the righthand of these forums when I had submitted my post, and that answered my question. Why the thread never showed up when I was actually searching for an answer, I'll never know.
As per that thread, you have to go in and manually set/update the registry key
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\Photoshop.exe\shell\open\command
to point to the path of the most recent Photoshop (in my case, C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe). I guess this is something that the CS5.5 installer fails to do under certain circumstances. It was still pointing to the path of my CS5, which was no longer valid.

Colour Profiles no longer work in Indesign CS5

I have upgraded to cs5 and I am printing in Indesign using a Epson 3800, my old colour profiles no longer work (There is a cyan cast and everything is really saturated). The same profiles work fine through photoshop.
This profile worked in Indesign Photshop and Illustrator in cs3
Does anyon know, if there is something different within cs5 Indesign printing set up?

Take a look at http://forums.adobe.com/message/3287272#3287272 for some information. Was DYP found that on Mac the monitor profile was being introduced into the print flow for RGB printing out of ID -- an Apple Bug I think -- and the status of what's happening has changed.

Can no longer edit in Photoshop CS5

I recently uninstalled Lightroom 2.7 in favor of using my recently installed Lightroom 3. I did the same in terms of unintalling Photoshop CS3 in favor of using only my recently installed version of Photoshop CS5. As a result, coincidentally or otherwise, nothing works right now. When I open LR3 images and go to "Edit In", Photoshop is greyed out and so I am unable to do any editing outside Lightroom itself.
Does anyone know how I might remedy this problem? I am at the point of total frustration with both programs and am about ready to uninstall both of them and start all over again (which I dread). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just reinstall CS5. I believe you can do a repair to fix the problem. When you removed CS3 the uninstaller removed some files needed by CS5.

Brush and Pencil tool not working in Photoshop CS5 trial

I dowloaded the Photoshop CS5 trial yesterday 2 days ago. Everything worked perfectly yesterday. Unfortunately, today...the brush and pencil tool doesn't work. Anyone have any idea why?

Pen Pressure not working in Photoshop CS5.1

Hello,
I've looked at a lot of questions and answers concerning pen pressure in this forum, and I've tried a lot of things to fix this problem. I have a Genius MousePen 6x8 and use Photoshop CS5.1. It's been a while since I used my tablet, but it used to work before. I rebooted my computer a while ago, so I installed the new driver from the Genius website. The tablet is working fine, even the pen pressure, but for some reason it just won't work in Photoshop. I've tried to fix it by resetting the Photoshop settings by using the Ctrl+Shift+Alt, I've reset the brush tool, I've played around with the brush options and nothing has worked.

Your tablet driver isn't reporting pressure correctly.
The knockoff tablet drivers usually need to be revised for each new version of Photoshop (and we have no idea why).
Contact your tablet maker to see if they have updated drivers to fix their bugs.

The feature "Save as" is not working in Photoshop CS5

Hello, I've downloaded Photoshop CS5 in trial mode but the "feature" "Save as" and "Save" are not working, I can't save my work, is it a restriccion for being in the trial mode?. I'm using Windows XP sp2 with 1.5 Gb RAM, 100 Gb HD and 2.6 Ghz Intell processor. Before the Photoshop CS5 I had installed the CS4 Suite and was working perfectly well. Could you help me with this?.

The trial version is the same as the full version except
for the 30 day limitation.
I think on windows xp you need sp3 for cs5 to work as expected.

It seems to be impossible to Define Custom Shape in Photoshop CS5. This option in Edit menu always remains grayed out...
Can anyone check and see if this is the case in your own installation of the program?
Very same procedure works in Photoshop CS4 just fine, but not in CS5...

You wouldn't happen to be running a 64 bit system would you? On a 64 bit system, you must keep in mind that there are two variants of Photoshop installed: 32 bit and 64 bit.
Did you copy the 32 bit and 64 bit plugin into the proper Photoshop folders?

Can't get clipping paths to work in PhotoShop CS5?

I have been working with PS since ver 1. I have always used clipping paths to mask out areas without a hitch. Now, in CS5, it no longer works.
I have read in the forums that I need to have the Pen tool - in the options area set to "Exclude Overlapping Path Areas. Still does not work. Okay, what am I doing wrong?

Best Mac for working in Photoshop CS5?

I currently have a Macbook pro from 2004, I've recently updated to Lion and cleaned out my computer to have around 145GB free space. It has a 2.4 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor and 2GB Memory. I work extensively in Photoshop CS5 and have problems with it running very slowly and sometimes crashing. Upgrading and cleaning out my computer have had no effect so I'm thinking about upgrading to a newer computer, either a macbook pro and an iMac. I really don't know much about hardware and I am not sure what I need to look for to make sure the computer will run Photoshop faster. I am assuming the processor would be the most important? Can anyone help me out in reccomending which model I should go for? And what specifically will make my computer run Photoshop fast? Thanks so much !

Your problem stems form upgrading CS5 to 10.7 without first checking, CS5 Photoshop has issues in 10.7, it's being rewritten and there is a CS6 Pre-release that works for 10.7.

GO back to Snow Kitty 10.6 for now on a DU Zero Erased drive under 50% filled, wait it out until CS6 and works on a new 10.8 machine released after this summer, make your hardware software RAM decision then, likely 15" or better.
10.7 is 64 bit like 10.8 will be, so little changes to 10.8 CS6 will be needed to work.
