Levels of WBS

Dear All,
Till what levels we can create the WBS (I mean what is the maximum lowest level (count) we can create WBS and which systems supports). Both in Financial Structure and Work plan Structure.

Well, you want to end up with a WBS per project that is not real big. If you end up having several thousand tasks on a project, then you might run into performance issues. A lot depends on what you are using projects for. Is this just for CIP that will get turned into a fixed asset? Or are you a construction company, or an engineering firm, with lots of projects going on? Your real issue is going to be performance, rather than running into a limit on the number of levels you can have in your work structure.

Issue in creation of level 2 WBS for level 1 WBS which is released

Hello All,
I am trying to create a level 2 WBS for a alrealy created level 1 WBS using BAPI_BUS2054_CHANGE_MULTI .If the level 1 WBS is not released then level 2 WBS gets created .However if the level 1 is released then level 2 WBS doesnt gets created and i get error ' User status INIT is active (WBS #1) '
Using T-code CJ20n i am able to create level 2 WBS for released level 1 WBS .

Do you fill WBS_LEFT, WBS_UP fields for IT_WBS_ELEMENT / IT_UPDATE_WBS_ELEMENT tables.
Hierarchy is very important for between WBS.

Check on level of WBS element for capital purchase PO

Hi Experts,
We are facing a problem. While creating Capital purchase PO, all WBS elements are allowed. Although, system is configured in such a way that GRN can not be done for Level 1 WBS( Parent project). We want to introduce a check at PO creation level only, so that it should not take Level 1 WBS element. How can it be done( validation check can do here or not) .

How did you set up the derivation rule???
I think that is where you specify a level of expenditue or procurement.

PS: How to get the hierarchy of a level 1 WBS only?

This corresponds to Projects System module.
If we have 5 level 1 WBS elements.Out of them if I want to get only the WBS hierarchy corresponding to a level 1 WBS element (say 2nd level 1 WBS element).
I know that we can get all the WBS elements' hierarchy from BAPI_PROJECT_GETINFO. But I want the hierarchy for only one level 1 WBS element not for all. How?

you could read them from SETNODE table with SETCLASS = '0110'

Levels of WBS r controlled by Project coding mask.WBS levels can be created Upto max 99 levels depends on the need of the project Project structuring is done ( generally upto 4-5 levels solves the purpose )

Assign WBS AVAC not in the lowest level of WBS elements

Dear SAP Community,
Our client has requirement to have budget availability control in WBS element level 3 while the WBS structure is until level 5 and the actual posting will occurred in WBS element level 5.
Our current setting is to have WBS element level 5 as Planning Element and Account Assignment Element. So, user can upload their WBS planning data from the lowest level of WBS structure. Then we copy the Planning Data as Budget through CJ30 and release it through CJ32.
If we set the value of Budget Data in CJ30 and CJ32 until the level 5, the system check AVAC in WBS level 5 instead of the amount rolled up in WBS level 3. If we set the value of Budget Data in CJ30 and CJ32 in WBS level 3, the system will check AVAC in WBS level 3 (as we expected) but the consequence is comparison of actual vs budget in WBS level 5 will have variance 100%.
Is there any way to define the budget data until WBS level 5 but the AVAC control is in WBS level 3?

We had similar kind of requirement, we had followed the above process. THis will provide the required functionality except the variance in reports. Try and convince the client to settle for this if this meets your requirements.
As AVAC can't be managed at WBS levels.

CJB1/CJB2 will Create Settlement Rule only on Last level of WBS

In Investment projects the client want to settle last level WBS to top level WBS and from top level WBS to AUC and capitalise it. Since we have so many WBS in structure hence we want to use CJB1/CJB2 for settlement rule creation. But CJB1 and CJB2 is createing WBS on all level of WBS. Can any body tell me, what configuration/settings i need to do so that CJB1/CJB2 will create Settlement Rule only on Last level of WBS.

I checked in SPRO; PS > Costs > Automatic & Periodic Allocations > Settlement > Sett Rule for WBS > BADI for CJB1 / CJB2, there is so many BADI is available. Please let me know BADI name, which is help me to create settlement rule create at WBS last level through CJB1 / CJB2.

is that what you mean by skip a level?
that is not possible, i cant even think of a scenerio why you might want to do that. (but i'm curious why you asked)
it isnt even logically feasible. you can create WBS levels only one at a time.

Level One WBS Element as Acct Assignment Element

Dear Friend's
My user have created one project, In that there are various levels WBS Elements.
Normally we never tick Level One WBS Element as a Acct Assignment Element.But User have made Level One WBS Element as Acct Assg Element and then Project is Released.So now I can't remove that tick because that field is Grayed out or Freezed.
Now i wanted to Remove or Undo Release status and then I have to remove Acct Assg Element Tick.
Pls guide me on this issue.

I had not seen this problem before. So i checked it in my system. But i didn't see this
happening for me.
I think once system status is in REL (released) status you cannot reverse it. According to me Acct.
assignment field become gray only when posting is made against that WBS and not after release.
Pls check it and inform.

Budget at Level 5 WBS

I have below 5 Levels of WBs elements
T-06425-01
T-06425-01-01
T-06425-02-01-01
T-06425-02-01-01-01
T-06425-02-01-01-01-01
If I want to allocate Budget directly at Level 5 WBS element in CJ30, system will automatically check Budget available at upper levels 4,3,2 and 1.
Once assigned in Levels 1,2,3,4 then only i can allocate the budget right?
No my quesion in standard do we have any option in directly giving budget at Level 5 only and save, If we do like this system will throw budget exceeded at upper levels of WBS.
Please Suggest.

Firstly I want to tell you that, When you enter budget at level 5 in CJ30 and total-up, then it will consider only to level 5 not for all other.
You are facing error because I think after entering budget, you are not performing total-up.
Procedure:
1)Goto CJ30->Enter Project Definition only not WBS->Press Enter
2)Now select your level 5 WBS->Enter Budget->Select Column ->Menubar->Edit->Total-Up
Now check & save. This budget will consider to level5 only.

How to make mandatory(usr01) field for level 1 wbs elements only from CJ20N

Dear All,
I have made mandatory for "PRPS-USR01" field from CJ20N transaction
by using field exit. But mandatory field (usr01) is working for all wbs elements. I want to make this usr01 field mandatory for LEVEL 1(prps-stufe), WBS ELEMENTS(prps-posid) only. Not for level 2 and level 3 wbs elements. Please let me know how to fix it.

You could envisage the use of validation rules in PS.
Transaction OPSI or SPRO
Create a validation with a message ID (Z)
Create a step
- prerequisite : PRPS-STUFE = '001'
- Check : PRPS-USR01 <> ' '
affect a message number

Customer validation on all levels of WBS

I have done validation on 1st level of WBS that customer field is must to fill in or it gives error message.
How do i do this for all levels of WBS?

In prerequisiste of validation at WBS level maintain the logic such as
PROJ-PROFL = 'XYZ'' AND PRPS-STUFE >= '2' i.e you are doing a prerequisite for project profile XYZ and WBS level > 2. This validation will be applicable for all conditions matching.
If you just want level then maintain PRPS-STUFE >= '1' , so that validation will be carried out for all levels of WBS greater then 1.

Substitution - Pass all postings from level 1 WBS to lower WBS

Dear All,
I have defined project type X.
For this particular project type, i want to pass on all the postings from 1st level WBS element to following level WBS elements.
I think this is possible with Substitution. Can you please guide me how do i do this?

I am sorry that i was not very clear with the question.
In my organisation, projects are defined like this, 1st level WBS is billing element and all revenues are posted to this WBS.
There are further levels 2,3 to each projects and i would like to distribute the revnues per WBS.
Example: project A is defined as - level1 WBS
Level 2 - each of the depts working on the project.
The man hours are booked per dept to level 2 WBS elements.
I would like to distribute the revenues also to each of the depts from level 1 WBS by using substitutions.
Is this possible? How?

Cost planning in projects can be done through two techinques:
I. Manual cost planning (at WBS level)
1. Overall planning (Struture-oreiented planning)
2. Detailed planning (Cost element planning)
3. Unit costing
4. Easy cost planning form
II. Automatic cost planning using networks and assigned orders
For customizing: Use transaction OPUV and enter the required entries for cost planning.
Budget can do only at WBS level. For configuration do the following steps:
1. Create Budget profile - OPS9
2. Assign Budget profile in Project profile - OPSA
3. Then allot budget to your project - CJ30

Is there any standard way or enhancement available to control authorization for users with certain status for WBS Element i.e. for example
Pre-requisite:
There is only 2 level of project i.e.
Lev_ WBSE_______Description
1___ 7-14.E_______summay outage controller
2___ 7-14.E.2310__ Plant/unit # 2310
2___ 7-14.E.2310__ Plant/unit # 2220
Project Controller (authorization role assigned "Z_PS_OP7_OTGCON_C") have all project level authorization
Plant/Unit Controller (authorization role assigned "Z_PS_OP7_PLNTOTG_C_2310") have only level 2 authorization with enhancement that we did in system by Z table.

Issue:
After System Status released and User Status approved the WBS basic date for Plant/Units should be restricted from updating/changing by Plant/Unit Controller level and only project controller should have this authority.
Solution required:
