Levels preview on channel is different to result - sometimes! Causes?

Some background (and possibly useful to some): In CS3 I use a Dust & Scratches filter on a layer in a high resolution (3200+ppi) 16bpc image, then traditionally change the layer blend mode to Difference, make a duplicate of a channel which has the clearest information of where the filtered changes were made, and use levels to increase the contrast on a copy of that channel. Occasionally I get this result though - the Levels adjustment preview shows spots clearly, but clicking OK results in something very different from the preview. This only seems to happen occasionally.

As the purpose of the channel is to make a mask, the result isn't as good as I'd like. I assumed that the problem might have been the grey starting colour of the channel, so I pushed the 0 up to 9 in an attempt to get a uniform K value of 100% on the darkest areas, and then ran a second Levels adjustment to make the white spots brighter. The second levels adjustment resulted in pretty much the same result as above, again, not what was shown in the preview. I also assumed that it may be down to numbers and that levels is occasionally too limited to deal with all the shades of grey on a 16 bit channel. Probably wrongly as this normally works exactly as required.
This only happens occasionally, and isn't that big a deal - I can quite happily go and use a Curve instead. I'm just wondering why the preview in the adjustment window is different from the actual result. The fact that it only happens on some of my images is what concerns me - purging all beforehand does not make any difference.
Anybody any idea what is causing this and how to get accurate results in the preview? Is the preview using a different method to show the results? Unfortunately I won't have a copy of CS6 to try this on until a couple of weeks from now, so not sure the best way for someone to try and replicate it on newer versions.

As far as I know, the low precision display affects previews of adjustments and the blending of layers in both 8-bit and 16-bit modes. Here is an 8 bpc example which compares a Subtract blend of two layers of noise with the merged layers at zoom levels of 100%, 64%, 63% and 33.33%. The left doc has the separate layers and the right has the single layer which results from merging the two layers. The transition from precise to imprecise display happens at just below 64% zoom when Cache Levels is greater than 1.

Hi StefanF,
You need to first create the timebase that you want (in this case with a 0.5 increment) using the "Generate Numeric Channel" ANALYSIS function, then use the resulting time channel in the "Linear Mapping" ANALYSIS function for each of the original channel pairs.

Release strategy on doc. level isn't working because different values for B

Hi,
At my company we just created a new release strategy (3rd) for PR's. The old strategies were on item level, the new one is on document level. This is the third strategy in the system and with every new PR the strategy is decided based on the creation date (table EBAN field BADAT). For example:
Strategy 1 - BADAT < 2009.01.01
Strategy 2 - BADAT >- 2010.01.01 AND BADAT < 2011.01.01
Strategy 3 - BADAT >2011.01.01
These selection criteria are stored in the class.
This used to work fine between the 1st and 2nd strategy but now it doesn't. Whenever a new line item is added on a different day than the other line(s) the value's for BADAT will be different within the PR and the system isn't able to select a strategy. It's like no value is used for BADAT because there are more than 1 available. As a result the release tab will disappear and the PR will be ready to create a PO from it.
For example:
Line 1 BADAT 15.09.2011
Line 2 BADAT 15.09.2011
No problem releasing the PR
Line 3 BADAT 17.09.2011 added (release strategy reset)
Release tab disappears so no release can be done. However, this PR line 3 can now be converted into an PO without being ever released.
One solution we thought about is using the PR number BANFN. But no ranges are allowed in the class so it doesn't seem to work. Another option is to delete al the old strategies but what will be the consequences for all the old PR's?
We are not sure what to use. Maybe someone else worked out this issue before or has an idea?

First of all why you want to release a PR based on Creation date ?
Anyhow, as I understand from the above explanation, since you have created your 3rd strategy @ header/document level. You are facing this issue.
If you have a strategy @ document level then why you want 2 separate strategies @ item level.
Following are the possible solutions as per my understanding
1. You can make the 3rd strategy as item level itself so that the different creation date for different items wont be a problem.
2. You don't have to delete the Old release strategies instead you can remove the characteristics assignment so that release strategy wont be determined @ item level & you can keep the new release @ document level. But in this case you cannot have creation date as a characteristic since it will result in the same issue..

You can give this a try on your Ultimate machine. While these are said to be for Vista, I used it on my Win 7 machine just fine and it fixed the problems I was having. Hope it works for you.
The problem is that Vista, by default, will only use NTLMv2 for authentication, which is not supported by Mac OS X's Windows Sharing service.
The other problem is the Minimum Session Security for NTVLM SSP based Clients.
To get around this:
1.     In Vista, open the Control Panel
2.     Switch to "Classic" view
3.     Double-click Administration Tools
4.     Double-click Local Security Policy
5.     Or Secpol.msc
6.     Expand "Local Policies" and select "Security Options"
7.     Alternate : Type secpol.msc to get editor up then
8.     Locate "Network Security: LAN Manager Authentication Level" in the list and double-click it.
9.     Change the setting from "Send NTMLv2 response only" to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session if negotiated"
10.     Network Security: Minimum session security for NTLM SSP Based (including secure RPC) Clients
11.     Change the setting from "require 128 bit" to unchecked (No Minimum)
12.     Click OK

How can I read channels from different SCXI modules simultaneusly?

I have a system that consists in:
- Three E-series DAQ boards (PCI-6034, PCI-6052 & PCI-MIO-16E)
- One SCXI chassis (SCXI 1001)
- 4 SCXI modules for voltage measurement connected to PCI MIO 16E
- One SCXI module for strain gauges connected to PCI 6034
- One SCXI module for accelerometers connected to PCI 6052
I have to develop a software application that reads all the channels at the same time or at least in the same program cycle. I have tried to create only one DAQmx task containing all the channels, although they belong to different DAQ boards (and SCXI modules, of course), but it seems to be impossible to use channels from different devices in the same task.
So I have created three different DAQmx tasks, one for each device and its channels. I have used one "DAQmx Start Task" VI for each task at the beggining of the loop in order to use them independently, reading their channels inside the loop in every program cycle.
When I have run the program I have get the following error:
"ERROR -200619 ocurred at DAQmx Start Task.vi
Chassis cannot be used for more than one scanning operation at the same time.
Do only one scanning operation or combine multiple scanning operations into a single operation."
What is the problem? How can I combine these multiple scanning operations? What can I do to read all channels at the same time?

Hello pablomendana,
it's ok that you got an error when trying to use more than one device on the same task. According to the setup you have, I agree that 3 tasks should be put in place.
The key question I have is... Have you configured manually at MAX the SG and accel. modules to be in Parallel mode?
I would not expect the error you get if they are in parallel mode (in which you could even read directly from the DAQ board, using DAQ device channels instead of SCXI channels).
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to setup a system similar to yours, but I would like to know more details on what you've tried so far.
Also, I recommend you that if still need help on setting up the system, use NI's SSP program to get support from your local NI Application Engineering organization, as this will be faster than the forum.

As u said that u want to show the results of the queries through report designer but i think it is used for formatted reports .
If u want to see tha results of diffrent query then u can use workbook .
In workbook u can also analyse reports easily by applying slice and dice techniques .
from different queries result set will be displayed on workbook with formatting and good look and feel.

About virtual channel in different device and/or different type channel

I am looking for a way to write to several analog channels at the same time. In my code, I didnt' pay much attention to that, I just have them placed in the the same frame in the flat sequence such that they might be started to write simultaneously. However, sometimes they might not working perfectly. I am reading something on DAQmx and I found that there is something call virtual channel so I have put more than 1 channel into a unit (called virtual cahnnel), so I can write something to it at the same time. Here are my question
1) what's the different between virtual channel and channel group? If I write a array of 3 elements to a channel group (consists of dev1/ao1, dev1/ao2 and dev1/ao5), am I writing to channel group or virtual channel?
2) can I bind different channels from different devices to form a virtual channel, e.g. dev0/ao0 dev1/ao0 dev2/ao0?
3) can I bind different type of channel to form a virtual channel, e.g. dev0/ao0, dev0/port0/line0?
4) last question is about synchronization on writing to a virtual channel (or channel group?) Last say I have a pulse train each pulse is separated in time by 1.2ms and total time is 122.4ms. The pulse train will be sent to dev0/ao3, and at 12ms after start send very first pulse of the train, I need to write two analog signal to dev1/ao1 and dev1/ao5. In my current code, create a flat sequence, start the task for sending the train in the first frame, put delay in second frame and delay for 12ms, write dev1/ao1 and dev1/ao5 in the third frame. For some times, this gives me acceptable timing but not always. I wonder how does it help to use virtual channel?
In the similar situtation, what about if instead of writing to two analog channel, I write to one analog channel and one digital channel?

1) virtual channel is created per task and contains a collection of settings such as a name, a physical channel, input terminal connections, the type of measurement or generation, and can include scaling information.. A virtual group is specific to digital IO and has to deal with the way you read/write data off/to the port
2) yes you can create a task with physical channels from multiple devices assuming they are comparable writes (ie all analog or all analog read, or all digital) but they will have the same channel characteristics (see answer above)
3) no you cannot create a task that handle an AO and a DO from with in the same task
4) if you created a task you are using a virtual channel. The only way to ensure timing is to use hardware timing (ie onboard sample clock of you DAQ card) otherwise the reads/writes are basically interrupts and you are at the mercy of the OS to service the interrupt request
if you need more information please repost with more questions, include your DAQ hardware, and any code pictures to give us a better idea of what you are trying to accomplish and how you are going about it

Can Preview Slideshows Target A Different Display?

Can the Slideshow feature of Preview use a different display (without mirroring or rearranging displays)? I can drag Preview's Slideshow controls onto a different display, but there doesn't seem to be a way to tell Preview to use a different display for the Slideshow itself.
GraphicConverter, and PowerPoint have a preference. I would have thought Preview would be cool like Keynote, and use the display its primary active window is on.

It sounds like the screen may be zoomed in slightly. Go into System Preferences/Universal Access and turn screen zooming off.

no, that is not possible.
When assigning interfaces to a specific port channel, the interfaces must be all Fast
Ethernet or all Gigabit Ethernet. You cannot mix interface types within a single port
channel.

Many other people agree with you, including some Sun engineers.
Perhaps Sun just feels an obligation to continue to allow it for legacy reasons.
You might also investigate the compiler that comes with Eclipse.

Yest, it is possible and you did quite in the right way. The reason why you receive that error code is because you set DIAdem File Write»file mode? terminal to TRUE instead of FAULSE.
According to the specific VI Help File you shell use it configured as TRUE only if your data array is a waveform type:
file mode? (block mode:F) Data is stored in block mode if FALSE, or channel mode if TRUE. Channel mode can only be used if the data is passed in the waveform array input.

ORA03113 - end of file on communication channel. Different results...

Hi all,
I've got a query that uses a simple connect by function.
When running this on the server and indeed other client apps using the Oracle 9/10 client it works fine.
I try to run the same query with 10g/11g client over .net and I get 3113.
The config I'm currently using is oracle 11.2g client with ODP.NET. The only caveat is that I'm using a VPN connection.
Overall db connectivity is working well, except this query - which does take longer than the others to return data. Could it be a time out in sqlnet? i've tried with/without firewall to eliminate that.. Nothing in the server's (9i) alert.log.
I don't know really what to check next. I'm pretty sure it's not an oracle bug (which i have experienced with complete connect by queries).
Any pointers?

Is this behavior specific to ODP? What behavior do you see if you execute the same query via SQLPlus?
Is this behavior consistently reproducible with this query?
Any ora-600 or ora-7445 in the alert log?
Usually for 3113 the best thing to do is open a SR and supply sqlnet traces to Support. 3113 is the general "connection died" error, and sqlnet traces usually help show what/why.

Other question: There is a way to apply different video channels to different program monitors?

I'm editing a marriage ceremony. There is two cameras on the couple in different angles, and there is a camera roaming the church for detais on the audience. I synch them in the a sequence, cut off the shaky parts on the roaming camera and I alternate between the two cameras. I can't see what is behind the layer hierarchy, so I turn its visualization off to se what's happening on the other cameras, and this is quite unpratical.
So, how to do it? To make different preview outputs for different video channels on the same sequence?

There is no special trick to qualifying answers. There are just different opinions as to what the proper answer should be. Very seldom will anyone here steer you wrong. You just might have better results from one type of answer than another.
I just happen to be of the opinion that the Creative Cow provides the best bang for the buck. Lynda.com is not free, but has the advantage of taking you through a real project to come up with a solid result.
To Google it yourself, as you have seen, is a perilous journey through heavily accented and sometimes poorly put together tutorials. Once you find Andrew's tutorials, you are in good hands. There are other good ones, and Occasionally I will put something together myself. But for a start, use Andrew's tutorials to get you most of the way there.
