Lexicon MX 400 as a plug in

Question

Can I use it as a plug in without using audio in and outs, If so when I bounce will it be included in the bounce. Any help ? Thanks Bill

Hi Bill
As you've discovered, the MX400 AU plug-in and USB connector only acts as a remote control for its patches and settings. Actual audio sends and returns are via analog ins/outs or S/PDIF for the MX400: you'd have to buy one of its big brothers like the PCM96 to stream audio via (in the case of the 96) firewire.
Using the unit via S/PDIF remember that clock sync is only achieved via input A. Also you're limited to 44.1 or 48 kHz sessions. Finally, you have two separate processors in the MX400, so to use both you'll have to be able to handle two separate S/PDIF ins and outs, A and B. I don't know if your MOTU has more than one S/PDIF pair.
Although I have a MX400, I don't use S/PDIF; I prefer to use the analog ins/outs. If you have a problem with the digital connections, you could use an unused pair of TRS connectors, say 3-4 in your MOTU, and set up a bus in Logic to handle those sends/returns.
