Lexmark X1240 compatibility

I am planning on getting a MacBook Pro, but was just given a new printer - a Lexmark X1240 - Lexmark says it is not compatible with the Mac.
Anybody know of a way to make it work? My husband has a PC, so we don't want to have 2 different printers. This printer is pretty nice, too, copier/scanner/printer - and was free
Thanks for any help.

You would probably have to purchase a mac compatible printer that you can share with your husbands' PC.
For sharing your printer with windows users, go to www.apple.com/support and search "
Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Sharing your printer with Windows users."
Also, according to the Lexmark website, model number X1240 doesn't exist.
Mac compatible Lexmark printers can be found at the following site: http://www.lexmark.com/lexmark/content/withoutnav/home/0,7316,204816596652569466_0en,00.html#selection

  • Lexmark X1240 drivers???

    Hi,
I have a Lexmark X1240 series printer/scanner. I know that there are no drivers available for this printer for OS X. Could I use some other drivers to get my printer working on my Mac? Please help... I have a lot of documents to be scanned asap. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks a ton in advance!

Hi, looks like it's not even supported by Gutenprint, though possibly another Lexmark driver would work...

  • Lexmark Printer Compatability hints

I am trying to get my Lexmark X2350 (an all-in-one device) to talk with my iMac, but cannot locate the exact driver(s), either at the Lexmark url or Apples. Is there another source for a driver for this printer, or can I use another series driver to get it to work? I hate to pitch the printer since it only abt 1 yr old and I really don't require anything heftier.
    Any tips appreciated, Thanks.
    Harry

I have searched all the Linux/Unix forums and cannot locate any Mac drivers for this printer. I know you don't want to ditch the printer but unfortunately I think that might be your only solution. Without the drivers you can't utilized the scanner portion of the machine. One option if you don't scan much stuff would be to attach it to a windows machine and set it up as a shared network printer. Sorry.

  • Lexmark printer compatibility

I've got an old Lexmark X83, 3 in 1 printer that I see no reason to trash as it works reasonably well with my old iMac. However, I can't get it to print out anything with my brand new IMAC. (Mind you, this doesn't surprise me in the least, since the computer industry is a past master in immediate obsolesence.) Any useful tips? I have tried downloading the world and his wife off the Lexmark site but (of course) no joy.
The nice thing about it is that if I buy a new printer, I shan't be able to install it until the man comes along to replace the disc drive, in which is still stuck one of my cds. Incidentally it cost me half an hour on the phone to Apple's hotline at god knows how many euros per second. Nice man, but nowhere near as imaginative as all you guys out there in the solutions he put forward. In fact one might describe the experience as an utter waste of time. Hotlines are a licence to print money. The guy that first invented them should get at least a Nobel prize for economics, before being strung up, preferably using phone wire, preferably by his ears, and being forced to listen to hotline menus (press one, press two plus the mandatory Vivaldi) until death ensues. *******.

There are no Tiger or Intel compatible printer drivers for your model neither from Lexmark nor from GutenPrint. I don't see a way to use the printer without a proper printer driver. Lexmark's OS X drivers end with 10.3.
If you wish to experiment you could download and install the 10.3 driver. However, it isn't a universal binary so in order to get it to work on an Intel Mac you need to force the Printer Setup Utility to open with Rosetta (and leave it that way.) To do that simply select the PSU application and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. Check the box labeled 'Open with Rosetta.' Close the window, launch PSU and install the printer. No guarantee this will work because the driver isn't verified as compatible with Tiger.

  • Compatibility re MacBook Pro (early 09) and Lexmark 7100 Series All in One?

Just purchased a new MacBook Pro with OS 10.5.6. Having difficulty getting my Lexmark 7100 All in One Printer/etc. to work with it. Computer does not recognize Lexmark 7100 printer/etc. and I keep getting messages saying that Lexmark works with OS 10.2.3 and later, not Classic. Of course computer has OS 10.5.6. Already downloaded new Lexmark drivers; did not help. Used this Lexmark with my G4 computer and OS 10.4.2. Is it compatible with OS 10.5.6?

Has it created a virtual printer icon on the Desktop ?
If not then it's not installed or configured correctly. It should work once you've got the settings right ...
(I has one that did work with 10.5 but recently upgraded to a Canon Pixma)

  • Lexmark printers and leopard. compatibility?

    can anyone help?

I'm in the same boat as you.
According to Lexmark the Leopard drivers for this printer will be released on 19th January 2008.

Note: Lexmark made a mistake on the list and put this printer as X7500 but if you click on it, the page correctly display it as X7550.
    Hope you can wait!

  • Macbook Pro w/ Lion 10.7.2 & Windows 7 Shared Printer (Lexmark X5650)

I just recently purchased a MacBook Pro with Lion OS 10.7.2 for my wife and have been trying to connect her Macbook to my Lexmark X5650 Printer that is connected to my Windows 7 Professional PC.  Tried everything with no success.  Any ideas?  I have always been a PC user and this is my first MAC and really know nothing about them.  Wife had to have it for Dental School and I am getting very frustrated
List of things I've tried thus far:
    -Installing printer using CUPS
         smb://server/Lexmark
         smb://workgroup/server/Lexmark
         smb://username:password@server/Lexmark
         smb://username:password@workgroup/server/Lexmark
where the server is I have tried using both the IP Address and Computer Name of the shared Printer
-Installing printer using "Advanced" options under "Print & Scan" to which I used the address settings as above
-Tried the LPD setting as well as just setting it straight up by selecting "Windows" under "Print & Scan", selected workgroup, computer name, and printer and everything appeared to install correctly until attempting to print test page
-Printer is shared on Windows PC
-Even tried creating an Administrative User and Password specifically for Printing
-Made sure I had the latest MAC Driver for the Printer
I have pretty much tried every setting and suggestion that can be found on google and always get the "Authentication Required" error or nothing at all printing just pauses.   When I click resume and enter in the username and password for my windows pc, it says that its sending the job, but then nothing happens and also whenever I try to print another test page after that, I have to constantly click resume and enter the username and password manually regardless of how I set it up.
Is this a printer compatibility issue, is this an issue with Mac OS 10.7.2 (Lion) w/ Windows 7 or what?  Every thread that I have read does not appear to have any responses from Apple with a workaround or any kind of explanation.  All that I have come across is that most people had no problems printing through shared Windows 7 printers until they upgrade to Mac Lion OS.

The "Authentication Required" error can be related to the print driver. Many vendors create their OS X drivers for direct communication from the Mac to the printer. As soon as you stick a Windows computer or 3rd party print server in between the Mac and the printer, then you can get this error.
The thing to note is that when you added the printer via the Add Printer > Windows pane, vs CUPS or the Advanced SMB, you would have been prompted for your Windows credentials to see the printer share after selecting the Win7 computer name. If entering these details then showed you the shared printer, this rules out the problem being related to authentication information.
Working on the premise that the error is being caused by the driver then there are other driver options for OS X, such as Gutenprint. However, looking through the supported driver list for Gutenprint v5.2.7, there is not that many Lexmark printers and certainly not the X5650. And looking at other driver packages available for OS X, I cannot see this model so you may need to look at other options.
One option is LPD which you have tried already. But I think this would have failed due to the service not running by default on Windows 7. While it is certainly present on Win7 for you to connect to a network printer using LPD, the service so that other computers can print via Win7 using LPD has to be enabled. This is done via Control Panel > Programs & Features > Turn Windows Features ON/OFF > Print & Document Services > LPD Print Service. With this enabled and running (you can check via Services) then the queue should be created in OS X using a syntax of lpd://ip_address/printer_share_name. Note that no authentication is required and if the driver will support this type of connection then it could be a quick win. But again the driver could be the issue, although I believe you will see a different error if it has an issue with this type of network connection.
So another workaround is detailed in this blog. This allows you to use the vendors driver on the Mac but I have to say that I have not tried this with Lion and Win7. My last test with this setup was with Win XP and Snow Leopard.
What may prove to be the easiest win is to purchase a Airport Express. With the printer connected to the USB port of this wireless device, the Mac can use the Lexmark driver and Win7 should have no problems printing to it either, although it would be handy to install the free Bonjour for Windows utility to help with locating the printer.
Hope this helps and please respond if you need any further information/assistance.

  • Just bought a new PC with Windows 7 installed on it. I'm having trouble Adding my Lexmark Optra S 1625 Printer ( no drivers found )?

I have contacted Lexmark and they claim that the OS has a compatable driver included.   But, so far I have NOT been successful at adding the printer.   The Optra S 1625 is currently shared by one of my XP PC's on my network.   My new, Windows 7 PC, is finding the printer just fine, but is not able to locate an acceptalbe driver for it.   Perhaps, I am just not familiar enough yet with how to work with Windows 7 to get around the issue.   I need some help.   Lexmark claims that Windows 7 should have a compatable driver included with the OS ???  Please Advise.

    Hi Fidmon,
After performing a research, I just get the same conclusion as Rick Dee and Shadow Walker. There is no Lexmark Optra S 1625 Printer driver for Windows 7 provided on Windows Update Catalog. Also, no driver downloading information for your printer listed on the Lexmark Product Download Center.
At this time, you can try the suggestions raised by Shadow Walker to install the similar printer driver to check the issue. For your convenicen, I have located a driver for OPTRA S 1255 printer. Please download and install the driver to test the issue.
Please note: Since this is a Windows XP driver, I can't guarantee if it works for you, but we can try installing the driver under Windows XP Compatible Mode.
    OPTRA S 1255
If the driver did not work, I strongly suggest communicating with Lexmark Support and ask them to produce the proper driver for Windows 7.
    Judy :)

  • Bought a new computer running windows 8.1 and it will not allow me to install all in one lexmark printer.

I have this lexmark printer running on 3 other computer, windows 7 and windows xp, but in 8.1 I get a message saying incompatable. What is really going on?

    Hi,
You can also check the compability printers of Lexmark in following link:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/CompatCenter/ProductViewerWithDefaultFilters?TempOsid=Windows%208.1&Locale=en-us&Architecture=X64&TextSearch=%2Blexmark%2Bprinter%2B&Type=Both&CurrentPage=0&TotalPages=1&ShowCriteria=0&SortCriteria=Relevance&Compatibility=Unknown&LastRequested=14
If your printer is not compatible with Windows 8.1, you can try to install the driver in Windows 8.1 compatible mode, otherwise, you have to contact the manufacturer to ask for the update driver for Windows 8.1.

I recently purchased a Lexmark 1200 series all in one an it will not work. Plug n play doesn't happen so i went through system pref, clicked printer and add printer. It seen it plugged in via usb so i clicked it then it said select drive. The driver for this model isn't there. I did a software update, didn't work so I searched online and cant find anything and neither did the official lexmark site.
Don't know what model mac I have. All I know is its a new mac book so ignore what my OS is.
    Thanks

    Hi mrburgess187!
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I went to Lexmark's website and under OS compatibility I didn't see your printer listed for OS X compatibility.

  • Can I airprint to a Lexmark X9575 wireless printer

Can I airprint to a Lexmark X9575 wireless printer, anyoneeeeeeeeeeeeeee?

Do a web search for AirPrint Activator, and you should find useful results for both Mac and Windows computers.
You might also contact Lexmark and ask if they have a solution.  Some other-brand printers claim iPad/iPhone compatibility, but the fine print says you have to use their program.
Otherwise, you may be able to use an iPad App like Print n Share.

for what it's worth, i have a lexmark z715 (uses the same driver, Z700-P700 Series) and a new computer with 10.5.5.
lexmark's worthlessly confusing site does say that it is not leopard compatible, but installing their current driver seems to work. of course if i look for the actual printer model, they link me to some other, irrelevant driver, but going through the Z700-P700 Series page (found on their os x compatibility chart) got this....

maybe this helps someone else. i couldn't find any results myself so here you go. either way, good luck.

  • Airport Express and Lexmark P6200 printer

I get 'error message 9672' When I try to add my printer (a Lexmark P6250) through the Airport Express USB connector. The printer is fine when coupled to the iBook via wire. Could there be a compatibility problem & if so is there a way around it.

Ok, well I solved it on my end for now.
I called Apple Support and they told me there aren't instructions anywhere for how to connect a printer to the Airport Extreme via Ethernet because they can can only assist you if you're connecting your printer to the Airport Express via USB. If you're using anything besides a USB (Ethernet in this case), they "can't help." From what I understand, it has something to do with them (Support) being able to detect what's going on with your setup if your Airport is connected via USB, and they can't "see anything" if the connection is via Ethernet cable. She said I'd have to take it up with the manufacturer of the printer...
But--what I did instead--is I connected the printer to the Airport Express via the Ethernet cable, I went to "Print & Fax", deleted the old queue for the printer, added a "new" printer, and there it was, under detected devices via Bonjour!
Why couldn't she have told me to delete the "old printer" and add a "new printer" via "Print & Fax"?
Anyway, in retrospect, it was a relatively easy problem to solve (given my computer and my printer, a Samsung ML-2851ND). But with all these wires and configurations (not to mention excitement and expectation) etc, etc, things can get confusing.
    Hope this helps!
