Lexmark x264 not scanning under Mountain Lion

Hi there,
after upgrading to 10.8 (from 10.7.4, where all went fine) my Lexmark x264 won't scan anymore. Printing's no prob, but the scanning ability is not recognized, no matter if I connect via USB, Bonjour or LAN. I of course upgraded the firmware, the image capture app (date: 7/31/12) but no matter what I do - no scanning...
Any idea?
THANKS!

but it does not work here.
- installed v1.8.1 OSX update
- installed v1.0.0 of Scan_ImageCapture_10.6orLater_forIntel.dmg
- installed v2.0.0 of Scan_TWAIN_2.0.0_10.6orLater_forIntel.dmg
rebooted system, started Image Capture (Digitale Bilder in german), shutoff and on the printer/scanner
now plugged Lexmark x264dn via USB but nothing happens.
dmesg says:

  • HT5022 Airport Utility 5.6 will not install under Mountain Lion

I have older Base Station Extreme and Airport Express models that need to be looked after; however, the fix to install Airport Utility 5.6 under Lion will not work under Mountain Lion. The installer complains that "the version of Mac OS X on this volume is not supported". So...suggestions?

That is correct. AirPort Utility 5.6 for OS X Lion will NOT install under OS X Mountain Lion. If you had it already installed, and then upgraded, it would have worked just fine.
One option, is to use Pacifist to extract the utility directly from the .dmg file.

  • External USB drives will not mount under Mountain Lion

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, two external USB2 drives that I have will not mount and cannot be viewed in the Finder.  The same occurs on a 2012 MacBook Air, a 2009 iMac 27 and a 2010 MacMini, all running OS X Mountain Lion version 10.8.2.
Both drives are Samsung Story external USB drives (one is 1.5 GB and the other is 2 GB) and both have been formatted using Mac Disk Utility with a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) partition, one using Snow Leopard and the other with Lion.
Both still mount correctly on a friends MacBook Pro that is still running Snow Leopard, and I had no problem with the same drives under Lion.  Interestingly both can also be connected to Time Capsule USB port and show up correctly.
Both drives mount correctly under Windows 7 on BootCamp partitions that I have on both the 2012 MacBook Air, a 2009 iMac 27. These BootCamp partitions have Paragon HFS+ installed so I can read Mac formated drives.
Both drives show up in Disk Utility, but when attempt to mount the drives I get the message "The disk could not be mounted.  Try running First Aid on the disk and retry mounting." I can run Repair in First Aid on the disk and get the message that the volume appears OK, but again have the same problem when I attempt to mount the disk.
I have also tried using Disk Utility 3,2, but still cannot mount the drives, though the program indicates there is no problem with the drives.
I have other portable USB including a Samsung portable USB2 drive, and two external USB3 drives, and I don't have problems with them.
There is clearly a problem with Mountain Lion with accessing (mounting) these Samsung Story USB drives, and the problem appears to be with Mountain Lion itself as the problem did not occur on the same Macs with Lion and does not occur with Bootcamp partitions on the machines.
I have a lot of time searching forums, but I have not found anyone with an identical problem.
I sure hope someone can help or that Apple come up with a fix for this issue which has only developed since the update to Mountain Lion.

  • Video Files Recorded on SD Card Used in Canon AVCHD Camcorder Not Visible Under Mountain Lion

    Hello:
Mountain Lion seems to treat the storage media (an SD card) used to record video in my Canon AVCHD camcorder differently than Mac OS X 10.7, 10.6 and 10.5.
When the card is inserted into the built in-card reader, it mounts as one would expect; however, a folder named "Private" appears and nothing seeems to be inside of it. If I use a machine running 10.7, 10.6, or 10.5, I'm able to drill down the fodler structure to the MTS files.
Anyone know of a way to tell 10.8 to see the data structure as 10.7 would?
I'm guessing that 10.8 wants me to use iMovie or Final Cut Pro X to access the video; however, the files need to remain as they are (i.e. mts files) and used in Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects.
This one is kind of obscure, I know.
    Thank you for any input.
    -Warren

    Let's see...
Sounds like you're running into an expected issue if you make an alias to removeable media.  The same thing would happen if you made the alias to a folder on a DVD-R disc or CD-R.  If you eject the original, you disable the alias.
If you copy the entire SD card volume to your drive, the PRIVATE package should copy across.  Then, as a folder on your hard drive rather than a volume on removeable media, you could make an alias to the STREAM package for quicker access later.
I'm pretty sure that Handbrake, like Prmeiere Pro, can see the MTS files directly.  That is, it's not dependant on the other folders in the PRIVATE directory sturcture.  As such, you could copy the contents of the STREAM package to another folder on your drive.  Just be mindful of the default MTS file names if you're using more than one SD card (you don't want to accidentally copy 00001.MTS from one card over 00001.MTS from another card).
As long as Handbrake sees MTS directly, you could even rename the MTS files after you've copied them.
On a side note, I almost always archive my SD cards with the data structure intact.  More often than not, that file structure is important to corretly access the video stored within that structure.  If something unexpected happens while working with the MTS files, it is good to have the original file structure to go back to.  Although, SD cards are getting to be so low cost that sometimes I just label the SD card and store it for archiving.

  • Smartcard reader not working under Mountain Lion

I have an SCM SCR3500 smartcard reader. It was working under Lion, using the Mac OS Forge smartcard driver. After upgrading my MacBook Air to Mountain Lion, the reader is no longer recognized. To make matters worse (!!!), Mountain Lion only allows installations via the App Store. Is there a driver for 10.8 that can be used with this reader? Where? How?

Another piece of information; I checked my system logs and found this entry repeating once I tried to connect my external display:

  • Lexmark x7170 not scanning under 10.8.2

    Hi there,
I have the latest driver 11.1 for the Lexmark x7170, which is connected via USB, installed.
It prints but will not do a scan.
    How to fix this?
    Thanks for Feedback
    Bernd

While Lexmark has a printer driver for that Model, from their website I believe that you need to use Apple's "Print & Scan fuction to use your Scanner:
Your apparently older Model needs to use Apple's "Print & Scan" which is found in Applications>System Preferences>"Print & Scan".  There you will follow the following instructions from the HP Support site to Scan, for instance:
Place the item that you want to scan on the scanner glass, or load it into the automatic document feeder (ADF) if your printer has one.
Click the Apple menu (# ), and then click System Preferences .
    Click Print & Scan (# ).
Click your printer in the left pane.
Click Scan , and then click Open Scanner .
Click Show Details . The details of the scan display, including options to change scan settings.Figure 4: Example of the Show Details scanning screen#
Change any scan settings as necessary, and then click Scan .NOTE: Make sure to select either the Flatbed mode or the Document Feedermode, depending on your printer and how you plan to scan.
    Hope this helps

  • HT5022 What works with Mountain Lion?  AirPort Utility 5.6 will not install on Mountain Lion.

What gives?  The AirPort Utility 5.6 wil not load on a computer running Mountain Lion.  Attempted both on an iMac and Macbook.

That is correct, the 5.6 version of the AirPort Utility will not install under Mountain Lion ... but it will run on it once installed. One option is to use a utility, like Pacifist, to extract and "install" the utility into the Utilities folder.

  • IStat Pro location (not in widgets) under Mountain Lion?

I like and use iStat Pro.  Under Mountain Lion the Processes no longer show up.
I contacted Bjango for support and they sent me an email stating that they are discontinuing iStat Pro.
    I found a simple fix at http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=15332289&postcount=20
My problem is that I cannot locate the code to change.  My Macintosh HD/Library/Widgets has no istat pro.  I tried Spotlight and the only istat pro that shows is the download istat_pro_4.92.zip.  Is my spotlight broken? thx

Every User has and has always had a Library folder. When Lion came out, Apple decided to have it hidden because some very important files are in there and if you don't know what you are doing, you could really mess things up. If someone directs you to "/Library" or "/Macintosh HD/Library" they mean the (not hidden) system library folder. If they say "~/Library" they mean the hidden User Library folder.
Not sure how to make spotlight search the hidden folder. You can unhide it permanently by entering this command into terminal:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
After you do this, the Library folder will appear in your home folder.

  • I have to input a password in order to log in each time I turn on my Macbook Pro Santa Rosa under Mountain Lion. Now my built-in keyboard suddenly doesn't respons at all. And the bluetooth function seems to activate automatically even though I turn it off

I have to input a password to log in to my Macbook Pro Santa Rosa under Mountain Lion. Now suddenly the built-in keyboard doesn't work at all so I cannot use my computer. I also notice that the bluetooth function is activated automatically even though I turn it off. It looks for an external keyboard. Please help me out. Many thanks!

I have the exact same problem trying to use the Remote app on both my iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 with either my Mac or ATV2.  My Remote app used to work on my phone - I can't recall if I ever actually used it with my iPad, but when I tried today, I got all the same results as you did (on both iPad, and then iPhone).  I  was using my ATV2 to play music from iTunes on my Mac and wanted to use the Remote app, but it would not connect to either device no matter what I did.

  • Safari slow under Mountain Lion

A friendly enquiry to the Apple Expert Community
After I have upgraded my LION configuraiton with the latest MOUNTAIN LION Release, Safari has become very slow in loading web pages. I am connected to a highly performing Internet DSL Link (VDSL 20kbit's DL / 2kBit's UL).
Under LION I had no problems in this area. Also I must mention; when using FIrfox under Mountain Lion (ML), the Internet and Web Page Loading Process is very fast!
What have I done for test purposes:
    1) I deactivated all iCould services to see whether it would improve - no change - still slow
    2) I Did a clean ML Installation with no software etc on it - from scratch - all patches loaded etc. - Safari STILL SLUGGISH !
    Assumption:
There is a bug or new feature within ML, possibly the new combined URL and Search Bar feature (searching ahead, etc) which slows down the load of Web Pages... ?
    Anyhow,
The results of my short tests give me a strong indication (proof) of, the slowness of Safari 6 under ML is not caused by mal user handling or buggy software installed, but an initial insufficiency of the first release of ML
    Question:
Does anybody have already found a slution to the described problem?
    many thanks for some feedback
    Urs

Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the page that opens.
Click the column headed Kind in the list of keychain items to arrange the list by kind. Look for certificates that are expired or invalid. Delete any you find.

  • Firewire, Virtual software and Chrome don't work under Mountain Lion.  Why?

I upgraded two machines to Mountain Lion:  A Core i7 iMac and a Core2Duo Mac Mini running OS X Server.
The first thing I noticed was that any virtual machine software icons - Fusion, Parallels and Virtual Box - show up with the circle crossed out, even though each version was the latest installed (came as part of a couple of MacUpdate bundles).
Then I noticed on the iMac, all firewire devices were not being seen.  I have a Lacie 4big Quadra hooked up via firewire 800, an LG DVD+R drive on firewire 400 (800 to 400 cable coming out of the Lacie) and an EyeTV 200, which all were working just fine under Lion.  System Profiler shows a "Maximum Speed:  up to 800 Mb/sec", but no devices listed as available.  I did dupe the original Lion installation to an external USB disk but haven't resorted to that yet.  Tried identifying all connected devices at the command line, but haven't had success finding the firewire devices.
Finally, although the latest Safari is nice and fast, I have been accustomed to working with Google Chrome.  On the iMac, every time I attempt to run Chrome, it comes up crashing and asking if I wanted to report it, which I do.  I even went as far as to delete and reinstall Chrome and I get the same result.  What's up with that?
    Ideas?
    Regards,
        Tony.

Since posting, I found out there were some updates available from VMWare, Parallels and Oracle (VirtualBox) which now allow them to run properly under Mountain Lion.
I still have the problem with Firewire and Chrome though...  For Chrome, I have deleted and reinstalled but get the same result.  As for Firewire, I'm almost ready to "reorganize" my wiring from adding another powered hub and hooking some of the devices via USB, or just follow the lines and plugging and unplugging, although moments before the reboot from Lion to Mountain Lion, all firewire devices worked in the configuration described and nothing had since changed...
    Regards,
        Tony.

  • Existing IMAP notes not available in notes app after mountain lion installation

After today's mountain lion upgrade (from lion) my notes stored on an IMAP server are not available in the new notes app. The folder of the IMAP Account itself is shown but appears empty. On my Iphone all notes of the IMAP Account are shoen correctly as well as on another mac still running lion.
    Any Suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

Okay, I assume there are some different reasons for the syncing problem.
I got my notes syncing again by just losing the prefix on my iPhone and renaming the existing notes folder. For those with a similar problem, here's how:
    Old situation:
Within OS X Lion I used a Gmail account with notes (IMAP). To avoid a messy layout with the Gmail folders I used [Gmail] as IMAP Path Prefix (found under Accounts, tab Advanced).
Under iOS5, 'Notes' was ticked on under the Gmail account. The result: Apple created a IMAP folder '[Gmail]/Notes' to store all notes.
    New situation:
After upgrading to OS X Mountain Lion I ticked 'Notes' under the Gmail account within system prefs, 'Mail, Contacts & Calendars'. The new Notes app remained empty and didn't show my existing notes that were still on my iPhone.
Logging in to www.gmail.com reveiled a new folder created by Mountain Lion: 'Notes'. The existing notes folder was named '[Gmail]/Notes' - because I used the [Gmail] prefix - and contained al the existing notes.
So Mountain Lion syncs with the IMAP folder 'Notes' and the iPhone syncs with the folder '[Gmail]/Notes'
In Lion the Mail settings were used for both Mail and Notes. So the IMAP prefix applied to both.
In Mountain Lion, the IMAP prefix only applies to Mail, not to Notes.
    New situation, fixed:
As Mountain Lion can only use a folder called 'Notes' for syncing, I had to change the folder my iPhone was syncing with: '[Gmail]/Notes'. I removed the newly created folder 'Notes' via www.gmail.com under the label settings and renamed label '[Gmail]/Notes' to 'Notes'. After that I removed the IMAP prefix '[Gmail]' from my iPhone Gmail (advanced) account settings, making the iPhone sync notes with the folder 'Notes' instead of '[Gmail]/Notes'. That's it.
Btw, I maintained the use of the prefix within Apple Mail under Mountain Lion as that is totally separated from the Notes section.
    Hope this helps.

  • HT1338 Quicktime Player no longer plays under Mountain Lion

Quicktime Player no longer plays under Mountain Lion.  It loads, I can see the video but it does not move when clicked on to advance. It does move page by page mannually with the arrow buttons but does not play when clicked on the video advance button.

    Is this a known problem?
Yes, if you mean that the MOV file may contain data that is not supported by the QT X AV Foundation, Modernizer, and Convert 64-bit QT X structures embedded in the Mavericks and Yosemite operating systems but still supported by the 32-bit QT 7 structure still included in these operating systems and/or supported by the "open" codec configuration accessible by QT 7.
Has the format of mov files been changed?
I don't believe the file container format has changed but security updates and/or Mavericks/Yosemite codec support limitations may fail to recognize or support a particular file container/data compression format combination. Since you have not provided any information regarding the data actually contained in the MOV file, it is impossible to be more specific here. However, in most cases it is possible to use any of the available FFmpegX based transcoding utilities to manually convert unsupported data to file/compression combinations that are compatible with both QT X and QT 7 based apps under any current Mac OS X systems.

  • 1080 60p AVCHD choppy only under Mountain Lion

1080 60p AVCHD .m2ts and .mov video playbacks, using VLC and QuickTime are choppy only under Mountain Lion.
The same videos used to playback smooth with VLC and QuickTime under 10.6.8 Snow Leopard and Sony PMB under BootCamp/XP so my 27" iMac with 12GB RAM and 512MB video RAM is not the problem.
Anyone has a solution to this? I'm thinking about going back to 10.6.8 Snow Leopard via TimeMachine.
Is there a way to assign more RAM to QuickTime, iMovie, VLC, or other media players since out of the 12GB RAM only 160MB was assigned to VLC and QuickTime during playback.
    Thanks for your help!

These discussions show that the same video-playback problems started with Lion even on 2011 i7 27" iMac and continues to ML:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/16160679#16160679
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3204054?start=0&tstart=0
I'm definitely going back to Snow Leopard and run Mountain Lion from a separate partition only when I need the ML-only Apple eBook app.
