Lexmark x4550 printer ink woes

Hi All,
I have been wrestling with this printer through Leopard, Snow Leopard and now Lion. The issues are always popping up and I don't know how many times I have re-installed drivers to get this working. All told a miserable experience to date and totally out of step with all the other applications/devices I currently use wiht my Mac.
I have just re-installed the latest drivers and updated them through software update to V2.8. Now everytime I go to print I get a warning saying that the "printer is out of ink". Its not out of ink! I can confirm this through the maintenance menu on the printer and also over a HTTP direct connection o the printer. The printer will still print even though the warning is still present on the printer status on the Mac.
I also have the same problem on my wife's Mac Book Air.
Has anybody else come accross this problem?
Regards
John

  • I can no longer wireless print from my mac using my Lexmark X4550 printer

I have read all the previous forums from like a year ago about the troubles that Leopard brought to Lexmark printers, some helped a lot, although I would really like to use my wireless capabilities. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling like 15 times and I decided to post a thread here to hopefully get this resolved. I get as far as installing the printer driver but then when I go to install the printer into my print&fax under system preferences it does not allow me to add the printer... It just does not show up under my printer options. Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED, Thank you.
    P.S.
I can print using USB cable but would really like to print wireless. I was able to print wireless before I installed Leopard and have tried talking to Lexmark but no help.

  • How to print from my Lexmark x4550

How do I print from I pad to lexmark x4550 printer?

if it don't support apples std printing interface called airprint
then you have to rely on lexmark making a printing app and adding it to app store
    or you could

it dont require your router to be a netgear

  • I can print to a Lexmark X4550, but not scan (with Image Capture)

Following tips (by "Lexmark Listens" and others) I succeded in printing (via USB and wifi) to a Lexmark X4550.
But when scanning (via USB) using the Image Capture app (included in Mac OS), Image Capture sees the scanner a couple of seconds, then complains that no scanner is connected (although it still is).
This happens with a MacBook (Pro), but not with another MacBook (white).
I tried (not necessarily in this order):
    - reboot
    - repair disk permissions
    - re-installing drivers (both printer driver and "Image Capture Application Scan Driver for for 10.6.8 and later Mac OS") from Lexmark support site.
    - running Mac OS software update (which updated the printer driver to version 2.8]
    - resetting the printing system: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1341
How can I completely remove all files related to Lexmark printers&scanners and try again installing from a clean state?
(I see in other posts that a Lexmark Uninstaller is sometimes located in HD/Library/Printers/Lexmark/YEAR/ ; I used to have one here, but it was removed during previous attempts at getting the scanner working ; and anyway when I run this Uninstaller at the time, it did not completely clean the /Printer/Lexmark)
My problem is very similar to this one described in this bug report in Lexmark knowledge base:
    http://bit.ly/MOR9bd
But the patch proposed is "For Mac OS X 10.6 only" and titled "LexmarkPro800-Pro900SeriesQFE1.0.0.dmg" so I don't think it would work for a Lexmark X4550. (Indeed I installed this patch and the problem is still there).
As for the workaround suggested, "When using Apple's Image Capture application, do not use the "Show Details" option [...]", I can't get it to work: as soon as I launch Image Capture, it starts scanning (a preview) and the "Show Details" bouton is grayed out.
I've already spent many hours trying to get this printer-scanner to work with my Mac.
Any suggestion would be very helpful!

Same issue, sort of.  After ML upgrade, Lexmark x264dn fails to register as a printer & scanner, there is no scan tab anymore.   Also, image capture application is stuck in a crash loop until I disable mDNS (bonjour) on the printer.   Still, it does not register as a scanner anywhere (protoshop, image capture, preview...)
I have installed all the package scripts from Lexmark's Mountain Lion support page.   No dice.

  • Cant print on my Lexmark X4550 after Apple print Sw update

    Hi,
I recently had an update of the Lexmark printer drivers via Apple's SW update.
After that my Lexmark X4550 does not work any longer.
I get an error message "Color table is missing. You must uninstall and reinstall the printer software"
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall 4 times now but still no luck. What could be the error?
Very frustrating to not be able to print after I followed Apples recommendations and updated the drivers via the SW update utility.

There are some threads with this issue, and there have been a few solutions, one that involved replacing the ColorSync profiles, and the other deleting all of the installed Lexmark software and running the update again.

  • Problems printing on Lexmark X4550

    Hi Communities,
I just purchased my MacBook Pro running latest Mac OS X 10.9.  I'm having issues with the Lexmark X4550 all in one printer.
I have downloaded the the printer software update from the Apple store and the latest recommended drivers from the Lexmark website:
    http://support.lexmark.com/index?locale=en&page=product&productCode=LEXMARK_X455 0&segment=SUPPORT&userlocale=EN_UK&frompage=null#2
I am experiencing 2 (Two) issues:
Cannot get the printer to connect wirelessly, but it connects fine via the USB cable.
I cannot print any documents, email etc.  even thou I can do a test print and can scan documents.  When I try to print all seems fine, the job is sent in the print queu with the "printing" logo, but that is it there is no output of paper and I don't get any error message either.
For information, I can connect my MacBook Pro just fine with my office printer HP Envy 110 Series.  Also the Lexmark X4550 works just fine with my old laptop running Windows 7 on wireless.
I hope some could be of assistance.

  • I have installed my lexmark x1100 printer to macpro but it keeps telling me that the ink pots are wrong and they are not how can over ride this issue please help

I have installed my lexmark x1100 printer to my macpro lion but though it registers its there it keeps telling me that the inkjet pots are not in position or wrongly inserted, how can I overcome this problem which is driving me crackers!!!!!

Thanks for the additional info. If the printer works using your Dell Laptop, then the printer is working fine. The problem is with the driver. The Lexmark X1100 is only compatible up to Mac OS 9.2.2. If you have the Mac OS X, unfortunately, it's not compatible with that OS.
You might want to consider purchasing a new printer - preferably a network printer since you have multiple computers. We do have printers that are currently on sale online. You can check it out here: http://bit.ly/KQBDe0
Those printers are compatible with the newest Operating Systems both for Windows and Mac. It also has drivers for Linux.

i know its a lexmark driver issue  with Snow leopard  as others have had the same issues with it
does anyone know how to fix this issue
or Know if lexmark has released a software driver update for 10.6 that works
and where i can get it from if so
    thanks all Chuck

To correct the error in my name of your download I set out the corrected message:
    Hi
I have had a nightmare still unreolved to get your C734dw received today to work wirelssly with OS 10.6.8.
I have tried with your C734x download and Apple's C734_X download to no avail. I have taken the usual steps suchs as repairing permissions, shutting both devices down and restarting etc.  I am used to using my Mac and router with another wireless printer and know how to make the relevant setting. I have followed the Lexmark Wireless Setup Guide for OS 10.5 since there is not reference to 10.6 and in any event any differences are simple to resolve.
The Lexmark printer simply pauses without ever printing.  Is there a soluton please? If not it goes back to the retailer.
Is there no UK support helpline?

  • Lexmark wireless printing

Has anyone had any success with printing wirelessly to Lexmark printers after the upgrade to Snow Leopard? I have a X4550 printer and I am having no joy. The driver for the 3500-4500 series is included as part of 10.6 but CUPS is reporting the following error:
    "Backend /usr/libexec/cups/backend/lexnet3 does not exist!"
The port that it is set up to print to is prefixed lexnet3://x.x.x.x:1

I have been able to get my Lexmark X7675 to print wirelessly with Snow Leopard, every time.
I have both a Brother MFC-9440CN (Ethernet) and the Lexmark X7675 (WiFi), and in both cases in SL it's clear you are better served NOT installing the manufacturer's software at all, but rather use the capabilities built into SL. Of course, I installed both manufacturer's packages first, so the first few steps here were to ensure I "undid" that step:
    1. From the SL DVD, optional installs, install ALL the printer drivers for all brands. You can be more selective if you like, but it's not that much space for less future headache. Find the Lexmark utilities on your Mac, and delete them. Find Lexmark pref files under user/library/preferences and /library/preferences and delete them.
    2. Open System Preferences: Print and Fax. Delete the Lexmark printer there if there is one. Then right click in printing list and select "Reset Printing System"
    3. Go to your Lexmark printer, and use its menu system to determine its IP address. On the X7675, it was printed out in a settings page.
    4. With this information in hand, return to System Preferences: Print and Fax. Add a printer. Protocol = LPD. Address = the IP for your wireless Lexmark. Name = what you want to call it. Under Print Using, "Select Printer Software" and find your printer name from the list. Add the printer.
    5. Believe it or not, open your browser. Enter this URL: http://localhost:631 Select "Printers" from the top menu bar. In the new page, click on the name of the printer you've just added. In the second drop-down list which now says "Administration" select "Modify Printers" and enter an Admin username/password when prompted.
    6. Select "LPD/LPR Host or Printer" and then enter lexnet3://ip.address:1/ where ip.address is the IP you've already identified for your printer. If it's 10.0.1.14, this should read lexnet3://10.0.1.14:1/
    7. Save. Go to /Library/Printers/Lexmark/PDEs folder and delete the entire PDEs folder.
    8. Open up Software Update. It may find a "new" Lexmark driver package. Install it.
    9. You should be good to go. Print a test page from your computer. Tip: in SL, when you've sent a job to the printer and its icon opens in the dock, I like to right click/options/"keep in dock" for future easy access.

  • Print postcards from 'Pages' with a Lexmark C544dn printer?

I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to print postcards from 'Pages' with a Lexmark C544dn printer. As far as I can say, I have correctly set all parameters, but the output is always blank. Any ideas? FYI Lexmark have been unable to help!!

Hi Jerry, and thanks for your response.
What I want to achieve is a landscape postcard with one line of text across the top. I use this to stick on a few sticky notes for training workshop participants to use, to record their special interests for the session. I have done this for years with a Windows PC, MS Word and an HP4500dn LaserJet, and assumed that it would be a simple process with the new set-up (iMac, OS-X 10.7.4, iWork Pages 4.1 and Lexmark C544dn).
I started a blank document, with the paper size set to 6 x 4 inches landscape format. I re-set the margins to suit the size of the postcard, so that the text appeared to be in the right position, on screen.
I used the MP tray to feed the paper (there is only this one input, apart from the regular paper tray), and have tried this at the left side, in the centre and at the right side, in both landscape and portrait format.
I have even tried putting a sheet of portrait A4 paper through, and the printing shows up two thirds towards the bottom of the sheet, across the narrow dimension of the sheet. This makes me think that the machine is 'printing' after the paper has passed through.
Any idea what I am missing? Thanks, Geoff
Your trial with a full size paper tells the story, I think. Your ink is missing the post card. Try again with a small card. After initiating the Print function, make sure you are seeing the expanded Print dialog with the preview on the left side of the dialog window. Does everything look OK there? Paper correct size and orientation? Text showing where it should in the preview?

I have seen other posts on this but i have uninstalled all previous drivers and downloaded the new ones from the American Lexmark site, several times.

TextEdit is an application on your Mac.
Type TextEdit into Spotlight (magnifying icon top right on the menubar) to quickly locate and open it.
It is the basic Text/Word Processor (but actually very capable) that comes with all Macs and a good place to test differences if you hit a problem.

  • How do I connect a Lexmark x6570 printer to my iMac wirelessly?  The basic user guides are not helping me and the add printer is not finding my printer...

How do you connect a lexmark x6570 printer to an iMac wirelessly?  The basic user manuals are not helpful as the printer is not showing up when using the add printer function.  I my printer is working fine wirelessly with my windows laptop so it appears to be functioning fine.  This is my first time using an Apple at home...
    Thank you.

    Hello,
I am using a Mac with this router. Any ideas how I can set it up to print wireless. Im not a tech person so this gets confusing for me sometimes.
    Thanks!

  • I have a imac and a pc laptop set up with my wireless lexmark x7675 printer through my bthome hub network, but cannot get macbook pro to work

i have a lexmark wireless printer, its connected to my imac via wireless bthome hub connection, works fine, so does my pc laptop.  but when it comes to connect my macbook pro aswell it wont work.  i have installed lexmark drivers on macbook, i have follwed the wireless connection setup and plugged in via usb port. it says it has connected successfully, but it will not print.  i had it connected at one point, but would only print if the imac was on, but now it wont even do that.
please help, it seems like instead of connecting through bthome hub it wants to connect to my imac, how do i change this?

Well there would probably be different settings for the wireless.
For example, with a Lexmark printer although I needed to do nothing to get it to work via USB, to get the wifi working I had to use a special setup option for getting the wifi to work on my pc.
You can probably download the manual for your printer from the manufacturers website, and it should tell you how to get it to work with your printer.
