LG 42pc5d Plasma TV issues

The remote no longer turns on/off the set, also will not change channels or volume. Changed batteries, etc. Remote for cable box also will not turn on/off set, however, will allow volume to work. Any suggestions???

Unplug everything, then plug it back. If problem persist, you'll need to have a tech evaluate it. If within a year, LG will cover you. Outside the year, you need Best Buy's coverage.

  • VGA v. DVI for Vizio plasma (overscan issues)

Looking to use my Vizio P42HDe plasma as a second monitor for Front Row - The Vizio has 1 DVI and 1 VGA input. I'm currently using the DVI port for my Motorola DVR, so I want to use the VGA port for the imac output if possible, but I'll use DVI if I have to and run everything else on component video. Unfortunately, I need to buy a separate adapter for either solution for the miniDVI port on the imac, so I can't use trial and error.
The P42HDe is a 1024x768 widescreen display, so the native resolution is stretched horizontally. I don't mind losing some resolution to compensate (e.g., 1024x576), since this will be primarily for Front Row. However, I had some overscan issues with an older VGA powerbook (the borders would be off the screen) and could not get it to both fit the screen and give me the correct aspect ratio. I have read that if you're using DVI with Tiger, there is a checkbox for "overscan" that will fix this and allow you to set a resolution having a correct 16:9 aspect ratio.
Has anyone used their iMac Core Duo with a similar stretched pixel display with VGA and/or DVI? (I have a PBG4 and iMac Core Duo both running 10.4.6)
    PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.2)

DVI it is. I got both adapters and will return the VGA adapter this week.
All of the VGA settings would either stretch the image or overscan by the width of the menubar around the entire border.
Most of the DVI settings would stretch the image, but there was one 16:9 setting (approx 854:480 if I remember right). The display was recognized as "Vizio P42HD" and none of the settings exhibited any overscan. Strange that this would be the only available setting out of nearly ten "stretched" settings (it's a 1024:768 display), but Front Row looks great, which is all I was really interested in anyway, and it works as a second monitor in a pinch as well.
I'd prefer a setting in front row to display on the secondary monitor (front row always displays on the primary monitor), but I found a reasonable workaround. With the TV on, detect displays and set the TV as the primary monitor. When the TV is off, detect displays, and the menu and dock will return to the imac screen as the only available screen. Whenever you want to use front row on the TV, just turn it on, and detect displays and the menubar will return to the TV.
I'm going to try to make an applescript or automator action so that I can do this with my universal remote from my couch - I've already "learned" the apple remote codes, so now I just need to find a program that will execute actions based on IR input.

  • Out of Lip Sync

    Hi,
I've export the whole clips from FCP then use compressor to convert AC3 and Mpeg 2...after drag into the timeline in the DVDSP...that's a bit out of lip sync which i can't touch up to make it exac sync in the trim .... what can i do?plz helps....
    Ray

Sometimes simultaor is not accurate, and building to the hard drive and viewing there or on an actual disc helps.
Also sometimes there is a slight lag when you first start playing from any point in a timeline (i.e., more back about 10-15 seconds prior to where you see it going out of synch before you press play, then start, the first few seconds can be out of synch no matter where you start playback, and if you start earlier, by the time you hit the point where it was out of synch it will look in synch)
can't touch up to make it exac sync in the trim
Are you trying to trim the audio itself or are you just seeing that the audio is different length by a few frams?
Also exporting the aifs as seperate items from FCP and encoding those may help

  • Issues With Using a 50" Plasma as a Monitor.

    Hi there,
I'm using a brand new Mac Mini (just bought less than 3 hours ago) with my 50 inch plasma (th-50pz80u here are the specs: http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/panasonic-viera-th-50pz80u/4507-6482_7-32 887126.html ) but when I connect it via a mini DVI adapter to DVI-to-HDMI cable to my TV, I get a image that's too big (menu bar and lower dock are missing) with overscan, or too small (I get black bars on the sides, and the top) without overscan.
I would like the output to be 1080p and completely fit my display. Can anybody help me with that?
    Thank you.

  • Resolution issue on Panasonic Plasma HD 1080p with ATV

With my ATV2 set to Auto resolution or 720pHD, I lose picture on the left and right of my 58" Panasonic plasma HD 1080p TV.  If I reset the resolution to 640x480, I regain the full image, but of course at lower resolution.  Apple Genius was of no help on this issue.  ATV2 software is up to date.  HDMI connections are good.  Will appreciate any help.

I've solved this issue.  My Bose Lifestyle V30 Home Theater has no HDMI port for the 'AUX' input, which I had used with composite cables for my Apple TV1.  I tried using the DVD HDMI port with my Apple TV 2, and for whatever reason, the resolution at 720p stretched beyond the screen and lost content.  Now I've run the Apple TV2 HDMI directly to another HDMI port on the Panasonic TV and get full screen content at 720p (TV is set to 1080p). The Panasonic TV returns the Apple TV2 audio to the Bose.   Using the Apple TV2 now involves one additional step in selecting the HDMI port on the TV, (and then returning to the other HDMI port for Cable and DVD) but I once again I have HD video and excellent audio.  Such are the pains of mixing brands in a home theater.

  • Plasma Screen OK to test interlacing issues?

Having interlacing issues with my 24P footage and IMac monitor. If I output to my plasma screen, is this the same as any NTSC monitor in regard to checking/monitoring interlace issues?

Just to aid in the direction you're taking this.
This is an extract from the "Key Features" of the Panasonic standard definition video camera I'm assuming he's been using based on his profile:
    Panasonic AG-DVX100B 3CCD 24p/30p/60i Mini-DV Camcorder
    • You may choose from three shooting modes: 24p (24 fps, progressive) for images with the look and motion of film movies, 30p (30 fps, progressive), or standard 60i (60 fps, interlace).
    • 24p Advance Mode For 24p Non-Linear Editing
In 24p mode, images from the CCD can be 2:3 pulldown-converted (24p Mode) or 2:3:3:2 pulldown-converted (24p Advance Mode) and recorded onto tape in the standard 60i TV format. The tape can then be played back or edited using an ordinary DV system. True 24p editing can be achieved by uploading 2:3:3:2 pulldown-converted images via an IEEE 1394 DV interface to a compatible non-linear editing system. The 24p Advance Mode allows 60i/24p conversion with minimal picture degradation and on the fly 24 frame extraction.

  • Frame rate issues when displaying video on 50" Plasma

I've been using  my Mac Mini (Late 2009) as a media centre since I bought it in Dec 2009. Until recently it's been great working with everything I throw at it.
Over the last two weeks though I've noticed issues with lower frame rates and jerky video performance. When I try to watch a film full-screen on my 50" tv I get a much reduced frame rate to the point that I'm using it less and less as a media centre. When I run them windowed the frame rate issue is still present but less apparent than when I run it full screen.
During full-screen playback my processors are at 85%-90% capacity.
    System:
    Mac Mini 2009
    2.53 Mhz
    4gb Ram
    Nvidia 3400`
    Mac OSX 10.6.7
    TV
Connected to Panasonic 50" plasma via HDMI (Mini-display port to HDMI)
    Screen resolution 1600 x 900.
I've been trying it with the digital version of Tron Legacy (m4v format, 1.84GB, 854 x 480) and more simple .avi files ripped from my dvd collection and get the same result.
    Action Taken
    I've reinstalled the 10.6.7 combo
Run ONYX to update to preferences etc
Ran TechTools to check any memory issues
Looking for any tips as this is really confusing me. My next step is to wipe the entire system and start again but I only did this a couple of months ago so I'm not keen to try again.

yeah I'm kinda limited, working with video for the web and I'm making revisions as to what has been already posted. The H264s are the originals per say as we are using a screen capturing program to obtain the video, I could re export the originals at a truer format, but with the resources I'm given, its not truly the option I can afford to take. I've found a workaround through using imovie of all things, but I rather be in FCP. I've done some editing with h264s before and this is the first time I've seen this happen, it kind of reminds me of when I had an editor a few years back digitize video that was drop frame as non-drop.

  • Issue with streaming on Samsung plasma TV

Recently I watched a live stream from ustreamtv for a motorsports event on my desktop.  (ustream.tv/ultra4) While trying to switch to the tv (samsung 8000series plasma, hard wired via cat5) and getting to the stream site it asked for a Flashplayer update.  This I cannot do and when asked, Samsung says they only have version 10.0 and do not intend to update with future firmware or software updates to the TV.  now what?  I was able to watch the same event last year with no issues.  I have also contacted ustreamtv asking if they intend to come up with an app for samsung tvs that can then be added to set...no response so far.

Unfortunately, SmartTVs use Android OS and Google (Android) has ended all support for Flash (as of June 2012). There is no more Flash Player for Android, and being as it's now incompatible, there won't be another.
The latest versions that will run on Android are Flash Player 11.1 for Android 2.x and 3.x (11.1.111.73)  and Flash Player 11.1 for Android 4.0 (11.1.115.81).
Those ARE more recent than what you have (10) but they will still most likely get you a "You need the latest Flash Player to view this content" message from most sites.

  • Purchased Samsung 63 plasma 8000 series ghosting issues

I purchased a 63 Samsung 3D plasma 8000 series in 2/10 and the picture is fantastic, but I seem to be having ghosting issues when people move on the screen or with fast moving scenes.  I had a pioneer 50 plasma that was 5 years old that did not have this problem with people only blurring with fast moving scenes like sports.  The people and scenes are clear it's just the edges seem to be blurring or ghosting.  Is this normal or is there something I can adjust?  It is really irritating to me.  I thought this TV was supposed to be an improvement with blurring or ghosting but at present it seems to be worse.  Please advise.

    what was it's original function.
Motion Judder or Blur Reduction (named differently depending on brands of TV) is used to help compensate for the natural blur some content has. Unless you are watching something in its default recording such as 24p you will have at least some motion blur. Once again this is blur that is in the content not something plasmas technically have like LCD's are susceptible to.
So what does it do or supposed to do:
A standard video signal is actually a series of still images, flashed on screen so quickly that we believe we are watching a moving image. The typical frame rate used in North America is 60 frames per second (60Hz) meaning that a TV would display 60 individual still images every second. Sub-field drive is the method used to flash the individual image elements (dots) on a plasma panel. For each frame displayed on the TV the Sub-field drive flashes the dots 10 times or more, meaning that the dots are flashing 600 times per second (600Hz) or more. (Example: 60 frames per second x 10 sub-fields = 600 flashes per second). TV's will try to compensate content judder by inserting more sub-fields into the image. However it tends to have mixed results. Sometimes it works sometimes it completely fails and sometimes it overcompensates.
I personally have a Panasonic plasma and I keep the blur reduction off.

  • Display Issues with 50" Samsung Plasma

I have a 50" Samsung Plasma, and I am trying to get the display settings right with my mac mini.
I have used the screen with my 2009 macbook running snow leopard via the mini display port -> hdmi cable with no problems, however, I wanted use it with my 2007 mac mini running tiger, via a dvi-hdmi cable. I got the cable and today have been trying to set the display setting right.
Whatever resolution I set the mini to, it won't fill the tv screen. If I select overscan, the tv keeps loosing the signal. I've been through all the settings on the manual but still to no avail. I could probably live with this as I'm displaying keynotes on a black background, but the picture is really pixilated. And video especially doesn't cope. Really unsure which end is the culprit!
Anyone have any clues. Eventually I am going to split the signal between two screens, but need to get it right on the first one!
Is it Tiger? DO I need to upgrade to leopard or snow leopard (both are at my disposal)

You are halfway there. I have a Samsung LCD and had the same problem. There is a setting on Samsung screens to do this.
For me it is under 'picture options' and is a setting called size. I chose 'screen fit' and it all works like a charm.
    Hope that helps.

  • HDMI Audio issue with Samsung Plasma

    Hi all,
I have a mid 2010 Mac Mini that I bought for my HTPC. I am unable to get the HDMI audio to work after trying a number of connection possibilities. Here's the setup -
Mac Mini to Samsung via HDMI cable (1.3a) in either HDMI port - no audio
Mac Mini to Samsung via HDMI cable currently working for my uverse service - no audio
Mac Mini to Insignia LCD via HDMI cable in either HDMI port- no audio
I thought it was hardware, so I made a genius appointment and took it in. They gave me a new mini. Same exact issue.
When I switch to SAMSUNG in the sound properties, it tells me "The selected device has no output controls"
    Video works fine.
What am I doing wrong? Did I just get two bad boards? This is really freaking annoying.

I have the same issue... perfect image on a Samsung TV UE32EH5300, but no sound. I tried changing the input name to HDMI/PC (and tried all others) with no success.
Altough I noticed one rare thing. I opened Mountain Lion AudioMidi Configuration and selected the HDMI output. Can't move the volume controls because these are supposed to be controlled on the TV. But when clicking at the Speaker configuration and making a test for L/R speakers... each TV  speaker (connected by HDMI) reproduced statics.
THEN I'M CONFUSED!!!!... how can I hear sound produced by the computer but can't have the normal audio on HDMI???
    Any help???

  • [SOLVED] KDE Plasma 5 | Lock Screen Issues

Everytime my computer locks - whether it be manually or automaticly, I get this lock menu with 3 options. The first option has my username and my avatar, which prompts me for my password. Everytime I type in the correct password, the screen turns black and then reloads the lock screen. Which makes it impossible for me to log back into my session leaving me unable to leave my computer on ever. I can create a new Session from the same menu but when ever I do create a new Session after being locked out, not a single app will launch. And I know I am putting in the correct password because when I purposly put in an incorrect password; the screen doesn't turn black, it just gives me a diffrent prompt. Another issue I am facing with KDE at the moment is about 80% of the time when I shut down my computer, I get a crash report from most of the applications running, for expamle kwin. I'm only saying this incase it is relevant, it is annoying but at least it doesn't prevent me from getting work done. Also, I used KDE's suggested SDDM for login.

Oh, that really sucks, I like to use Arch for gaming on Linux so i dont think either of those sound preferable, but I think I will just try to downgrade nvidia then. Gnome atcually has worse issues with the latest nvidia drivers which sucks as well. Thank you for finding this.

  • Kdesu weird issues in Plasma 5.2.95

Kdesu is properly installed but doesn't work from terminal.
    This is what I get : http://i.imgur.com/lYbw67g.png
However when I am using KDE partition manager which I installed from AUR, it works : http://i.imgur.com/CpSf6U3.png

Seems that the kdesu package is out for Plasma. Having the same problem after today full upgrade. Found kdesu is flagged out (!) and exists a new one "kdesu4".

  • Mac Mini Overscan issue 10.6.2 Samsung 42" Plasma

I connected my 2009 Mini OS10.6.2 to my PN42A450 via HDMI.
The top menu bar is mostly missing, so I then tried a using SwitchResX to make some modifications based on a few postings that I found online. The program then wouldn't let me save my settings once I figured I was getting close (I guess since it is a 10 free trial, and I had to reboot ten or so times) So I am still standign with the same issue.
I am willing to purchase SwitchResX, if I know for sure this issue can be corrected with my model TV.
I've seen the tons of posts where other people have the same issue on other TV brands or sizes. So I am just looking to see if anyone else found a resolution to this issue, and if it was by using SwitchResX, what the custom settings used were for the Front Porch, Back Porch, etc....
Any information would be helpful, I really purchased this with the intent to use it with the TV, and not another monitor.

Before messing with the resolution of the TV, you should first just try to change one setting on the Mac Mini:
Click on SYSTEM PREFERENCES and then DISPLAYS and the OPTIONS tab, and unselect OVERSCAN. That was enough to resolve the issue fully for me on a MAc Mini 2009 and Sony HDTV.

  • How to connect a plasma panel digitally to Qosmio F10-130

    Hi,
I just orderer the F10-130 and I would like to connect my plasma panel with a digital video signal. The monitor has a DVI input, and the F10 has a so-called "D-Video out" interface that I've never seen before. What's the best way to connect the two devices? I know that VGA Sub-D or S-Video should work, but IMHO this is not state of the art. Does an adapter D-Video to DVI exist?
    Regards,
    Marsu
[Edited by: admin on 14-Mar-05 21:12]

    Hi marsu
D connector port on Qosmio you can connect to SCART port on TV. The cable is provided with Qosmio notebook. Sorry but I think there is no possibility to connect it to DVI port on your TV.
Only thing that you can do is to ask some experts in electronic store if there is some solution for this issue.
