LG Cosmos 2 - volume is too loud even on lowest setting

Hi, I recently got the LG Cosmos 2 and so far I'm fairly pleased with it. The only thing that bothers me is that the volume is very loud even when I set it to the lowest setting. This applies to both the external speaker volume and the headphones volume when playing ringtones and music.
I'm just wondering if this is normal and if there is something I can do to lower it down even further.

I found a great solution this afternoon, but this will be of use only for ringtones that you've added to the phone because unfortunately most of the time the phone's own ringtones are locked due to either Verizon's rules and/or the rules of the phone manufacturer.
One of the ways of adjusting the volume is a program called Replay Gain. Perhaps analogous to the many versions of Linux, other software writers have implemented Replay Gain in different ways. Each implementation has differing advantages and disadvantages.
My interpretation is that these versions fall under one of two categories:
In the first category, the program writes the information about the volume change to either an APE tag or an ID3 tag, and the music player reads the information in the tag to determine what volume to use. The disadvantage is that this is not a universal solution because the music player used needs to be able to recognize these tags; otherwise, that tag information means nothing to that music player and the volume will be played at its original level.
The program I used today called MP3Gain falls in the second category. Programs in this second category alter the audio file, BUT they don't alter the audio in any way other than its volume; to keep this post shorter, see the next post for greater detail about this alteration. MP3Gain in addition writes information about the volume change and about what the original volume was in an APE tag if you wish to use MP3Gain to undo the volume change. If I did a poor job of summarizing that, there is a lot of great information out there about MP3Gain if you do a google search.
I downloaded MP3Gain from here (link). While some of the various implementations of Replay Gain can be used on more than one audio format, MP3Gain can be used only on MP3 files.
step 1:
add the mp3 ringtones to MP3Gain and click the button "Track Analysis". The information that's important to us for our use is the number that is now in the column "Volume" which is a measurement in db. If the button says "Album Analysis", click the down arrow next to it and select "Track Analysis"
step 2:
At the top where you see "Target 'Normal' Volume", enter the volume that you want the mp3 ringtone changed to. Personally, a value of 91 puts me in the ballpark. If that's not low enough or not high enough, then you can just repeat these steps and apply a different value.
step 3:
Click the button "Track Gain" since I want my several mp3 ringtones to have an identical volume. If the button says "Album Gain" or "Constant Gain", click the down arrow next to it to select "Track Gain". MP3Gain's help file has excellent information about the difference between "Track Gain" and "Album Gain". I don't understand yet what "Constant Gain" is.
Step 4:
You're done.
I've read that older music players would not ignore the APE tag and would instead get confused by the presence of the APE tag and interpret it as audible noise. Our two models of Verizon non-smartphones don't seem to have any problems with the tags being left in. If by an unlikely chance either your phone or your music player plays the mp3 file with noise that wasn't there before, then you can turn off the use of the APE tag by choosing "Options" --> "Tags" --> "Ignore (do not read or write tags)". After turning this off you can still restore the volume to its original value if you had made a note of the original value when you clicked the "Track Analysis" button. Or just keep an unaltered backup copy of the mp3 ringtone.

  • ITunes 10 upgrade makes airtunes volume too loud even at minimum setting

I just updated to iTunes 10 this morning and love the interface and most of what is has to offer. I have, however, encountered an issue with the volume when streaming my music through Airtunes (or Airplay now) and my Airport Express to external speakers. I have an Express set up in my son's room and hooked up to a pair of computer speakers via a stero-mini to stereo-mini. Before the update the volume adjustment worked fine but after updating to iTunes 10 even the minimum volume is too loud for the white noise we put on to help him sleep. If you have ever had a fussy infant you understand that this is a HUGE problem. I've read the forums and come up with nothing. I know that I can manually change the master volume of the sleep sounds (get info on specific track and change master volume) but that's a ridiculous work-around. I've resorted to using Airfoil (an excellent program by the way) because I can't get Airplay to work right. All of the setting are there for it to be a real hit (individual volume settings for each set of external speakers - I have 2 airport express units) but they just DON'T WORK. What a shame that after an update I have to resort to a 3rd party program. I hope Apple hears this and updates very soon or the folks at Airfoil are going to be getting a lot of business very soon. Next post is at Engadget and Mashable
cool. please let me know if you've found a setting that I don't know about.
    thx.

iTunes 10 allows each AirTunes (AirPlay) zone to have a separate volume. Try selecting "Multiple Speakers" in the "AirPlay" tab and adjust the volume from there. Also make sure the "Preferences" settings are set to allow for remote volume to be set.

  • Volume gain in Windows 7 64 bit is very loud even at lowest setting

Under Windows 7 64 bit, the volume is extremely high even at the lowest Windows volume setting (the one above mute).  It's hard to get lower volume sound; it either is loud or none at all.  Is this a driver issue?  Or is there a gain setting I can use to adjust this?
    Thanks.
    iMac 27"
    Core i7 2.8GHz
    8 GB RAM
Bootcamp running Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate

Thanks for the reply.  I actually played a little more with the settings after I posted, which seemed to solve this somewhat. (should have tried before posting I guess, but at least I can share this with others..)
The iMac 27" I have uses a Cirrus Logic CS4206A (AB 81) sound chip it seems.  The drivers are fine.  I went into the standard Windows sound mixer (right click on volume icon on task tray (lower right) then select Mixer).  In the Mixer, there is a Boot Camp Manager slider along with the Device / Speakers one.  They are normally linked; when you use the keyboard volume up / down buttons to change volume, they all go up and down in unison.
I found that, if  I set the Boot Camp Manager slider manually to a much lower setting than the others, the scale / gain is minimised.  Playing with this, I could get a more comfortable setting, not too loud any longer!

  • Facetime the volume is too loud

I just updated my iPod touch to iOS 6 and when I  Facetime the volume is too loud even if I turn it down. I tried to restore it several times but nothing changed...what can I do? Do I have to send it to Apple support?

I am having a similar problem - but it's not exactly the same.
I upgraded my iPhone 4S to iOS 6 when it first came out and everything seemed fine.
Last weekend, I noticed that I had soem issues with music copied to my phone which I couldn't seem to delete and after a lot of mucking about, decided the ebst best was to restore my phone to basics and re-load all of my music.
I noticed when I did the restore to rhe iPhone that it downloaded a new copye of iOS as part of the restore.
After the update, I managed to clean up my music but in phone calls, the audio on my phone - through the handset speaker is too loud and it makes the speaker vibrate.  If i try to use the volume buttons, i can see the volume slider move up or down but the audio volume doesn't actually change very much and even at low levels the audio qulity is poor.  the speaker vibrates.  Strange thing is that if i put the phone call on speaker phone, it's fine.
If I use the headphones, volume does change on calls when i use the volume controls on the headphone cable.  it even changes when i use the volume buttons on the handset with the headphones plugged in and in both cases the audio quality is fine.
With the headphones in music volume is low but does adjust up and down using wither the cable volume controls or the ones on the handset.
Audio on music through my car sound system seems fine and does increase or decrease as I adjust it in the car.
The only issue seems to be phone caslls through the handset speaker in normal mode......

  • Why has my autocorrect volume become so loud, even with volume setting very low? Anyway to adjust?

Autocorrect volume is too loud; even with volume turned down,

    Hi,
One thing can help is the following.  Right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select 'Playback Devices'.  Left click the default device once to highlight it ( it's usually 'speakers & headphones' ) then click the Properties button.  Click the Enhancements tab and put a tick in the box next to 'Loudness Equalization'.  Click Apply to save the change and then click OK in all remaining windows and see if this has helped at all.

  • My 2nd generation itouch volume is too loud

The volume on my itouch is way too loud even at the lowest setting. If I slide it anymore it would mute. I don't know what to do. Can anyone offer any advice?
    Thanks

Go into the Settings app then press Music. You'll see an option called "Volume Limit." This is Apple's way of making sure you don't burst your eardrums. Use the slider to adjust the Volume Limit to your prefrence. It also you be your headphones or speaker. Try using a different speaker or another pair of headphones.
    Hope I helped!

  • Is the iPhone 5 call volume nice and quiet at the lowest setting?

I have an iPhone 4 and prior to this IOS6 debacle I was going to upgrade but for the moment I'm hanging fire until the release of 6.1
When I upgraded my i4 to IOS6 my call volume got much louder, even at the lowest setting it is too loud for me and I have to hold the phone away from my ear. I have reinstalled IOS several times to try and cure this (and other problems) but to no avail. I was just wondering if the different hardware on the iPhone 5 handles things differently? It is very important to me that the lowest call volume setting is quiet, after all we can always turn it up but not being able to turn it down is a big issue for me.

  • Windows 7 boot camp audio...too loud, even after fix

I've just recently upgraded to Windows 7 (32-bit) and also updated to Boot Camp 4.0 as well.
Once the Boot Camp update finished, the audio was scratchy and distorted. Fortunately I've installed the most recent version of Realtek HD Audio drivers.
The sound just gets clearer and however it gets too darn loud even it's on the middle volume. I've looked upon the sound manager from Realtek drivers but there isn't any advanced sound controls to keep the sound low and balanced.
Does anybody happened to this before and give me some good solution so to make the sound as balanced as possible?
By the way, it happened to me before when I was running Windows XP SP3 under the previous Boot Camp version. Then I've discovered the advanced controls to get the sound low and balanced and it worked like a charm! I wonder if I could do the same thing on Windows 7?

Just so you're aware dude this is a common issue with those running any version of Windows!! lol

  • Lowest volume still too loud

I frequently listen to my iPod nano while doing other things. However, the lowest volume setting is still too loud for background music. Can that setting be changed?
    iPod Nano   Windows XP

Just to clarify...is it just the background that is too loud, or is it the whole volume output. I mean, is the background taking over the song, or is the volume simply not going low enough?
If the background is taking over the song, check the Equalizer in the Settings. Turn it to the Off setting. If that doesn't work, Restore the iPod.
Actually, for both problems try a Restore (after the EQ thing).
I hope this helps and post back!

  • AUX IN too loud on minimum mixer sett

I have an ES37/ES373 SoundBlaster card. Even with the built-in Windows mixer recording volume set to minimum, the input through AUX IN is WAY TOO LOUD. Mute cuts it off completely. Is this not a logarithmic volume control (audio taper)? I should expect to be able to smoothly adjust to zero volume using the slider on the Recording AUX IN volume slider.
What gives? Is there a workaround? Different Mixer software?

That will be some settings adjustments on your computer (e.g., volume control or volume management) and not on your MDR-1R headphones. You may contact the support provider of your computer for best assistance.

  • Volume is too loud - deafening loud on the lowest setting!

I just bought a brand spanking new 5G 30GB black iPod video to compliment my 2gb black iPod nano.
Everything was fine with the nano. Perfect in fact - no problems whatsoever despite all the complaints you can find on the internet.
So it was with some reservation I find out the bigger cousins are somewhat less 'solid' (it runs hot, it clicks and whirrs, it's slow and the battery is not very long lasting).
However I can live with all of those complaints if it weren't for the fact that using the exact same libary as the one for the nano the volume is EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA loud. That is to say there is no setting other than ZERO to LOUD. On the nano there was incremental steps at the low end, on this ipod there isn't!?
    This is what I've tried;
Sound check on, sound check off. Doesn't help.
Limiter LOW, limiter FULL. Doesn't help as the increments are the same regardless.
Volume change in iTunes. This helps to some degree but I have some tracks on 2% loud and they are still VERY LOUD and because I can't be bothered applying individual profiles to each single track I apply this to my whole libary and find many tracks TOO QUIET.
    Oh boy what a mess.
So I've come across MP3gain. It's working through my library as I type. However I shouldn't have to use this and I want to know why I am when it worked perfectly with the NANO.
What the **** is going on?
    PC   Windows XP Pro

MP3Gain did little other than make everything too quiet. I suppose there is value in it if I get the right settings but considering it takes hours to go through my library maybe I'll skip it for the moment. ****

  • Volume Issues - Too Loud & Too Soft

This is a problem I've had for awhile now. It's getting unbearably frustrating. Volume issues, where the default value for sound ranges outside what the iPhone should be capable of doing. So for example if the volume goes from 0% to 100%, my phone will be completely random and range from -50% to 150%.
How can it be less then 0% you might ask, when moving the slider mid way the volume is completely off and any lower doesn't make a difference, then I'll receive an email notification and BAM the volume goes up 300% and it's so loud it feels like the speaker is going to explode. This problem happens at any time but mostly after or while using headphones or car bluetooth.
Example of my issue in action, I'll plug AUX in the car into the phone, play music, driving along, randomly goes to half volume. I'll turn up the stereo to compensate, one minute later I'll get an email and the volume resumes to normal operating volume and I almost sh** my pants in fright.
Another example is I'll be watching a video late at night before bed on youtube or something with the volume all the way down, then the next morning my phone alarm will not sound or it will but insanely softly. The work around for this is to play music right before locking my phone with the volume up all the way. Just move the volume up all the way, play > pause and there you have it, volume working agian.
And one last example, randomly it goes really really loud. Like how is this possible loud. I'll dial a number and when pressing the buttons instead of a beep beep beep. I get fog horn BEEEEEEP BEEEEP BEEEEP. But as soon as the call starts the volume sets itself back to normal. Kind of like how when playing music without head phones with volume on max sets it back to normal.
    Things you should note:
Ringer volume has been locked to maximum, but quite often won't abide by this rule.
I've reset the phone and setup as new iPhone, problem still occurs.
Please don't give a solution like, "Have you checked your sound volume in settings". I'm not stupid.
Also, please don't give a solution unless you understand the difference between "Notification and Tone Volume" and "Media Volume".
Other then that. Please help, this is driving me mental.

I recently did the last firmware upgrade for my ipod nano 5th gen and can't set the maximim limit.
It can be set, but wont stick and I can still go above the limit.
Did something break with the firmware upgrade.

  • Volume adjustments-  too loud, or too low

I live in an apartment complex with very thin walls.
I watch dvds and stream videos/tv shows from the internet. sometimes there is no secondary volume adjustment for the video I am watching
when I use the keyboard volume adjustment there is a HUGE difference between the very lowest volume and mute.
is there a way to make it so there is broader range of "scale" or any setting where I am able to set a desired default "low" setting?
Thanks in advance from a new iMac recruit

  • VOLUME'S TOO LOUD!

Does anyone know how to change the volume limit on this. Also whenever I raise the volume, I can hear the music playing out fo the iPod. Is there any way to turn this off?!

Anyway, duhhhhhh, in my case the earphone jack simply wasn't pushed in all the way. I had noticed a small gap after I'd pushed it in, but it takes just a little more force to push it in all the way than one would intuitively exert with such a tiny device.
