LG L204WT LCD as External Display

I just bought this brand new at a local Circuit City for $300 on sale. It's a 20" Wide LCD and it is simply brilliant beautiful.
I contemplated the Apple 20" but realistically the price difference for essiantlly the same hardware (yes I do believe the ACD is an LG screen) is insane. I mean to pay more than 700.00 for a nice Aluminum finish with some extra ports? I mean really now, it's the picture quality or nothing and for the cheaper price, can't beat it.
Same picture quality and you have all of the manual control options as well. No dead pixels, no defects at all.
Anyone looking for a external display has to check out this LCD.

So much for me and my big mouth...yeah great monitor that LG....NOT!
The piece of junk took a dump and hour ago and now it's back up at the store...refund.
Back to square one.

  • Cannot change display resolution when connected to external display

On my 2.0GHz 13" MacBook, I have no problem with the display resolution when connecting to external display/projector when I am running in Mac OS, everything work perfectly! But things start to get messy when I am running in Windows VISTA 32 (installed within the Boot Camp 2.1). Whenever I connect to any external display/projector via a MiniDisplay-to-VGA cable, the resolutions on both my MacBook LCD and external display/projector drop to 640x480. And i am not able increase the resolution in the Display Settings. Does this mean that I have not installed the latest version of display drivers? Or is it that Apple did not provide the VISTA 32 drivers (in Boot Camp 2.1) that is compatible with the Mini Display port.

    Cool!
I'm glad you have it fixed.

  • Question about using HD LCD TV 1080p as external display

When i connect my MacBook to my new Samsung LCD HD TV, it set the screen resolution correctly to 1080p. The picture seems very nice, but when I move some text to the big screen the text is not so clear.
Why not? Am I doing something wrong or can I do something to make the picture (text) nicer?

Screen resolution, in general, is a hard thing to explain to individuals who don't work in graphics manipulation, and for good reason. It seems backwards at times. How is it that a 36" 1080p TV can appear blurrier than a 24" 720p TV? Why is 720p better than 1080i?
As far as using a 1080p display with my computer, I've settled on a 24" Samsung 1080p monitor/tv. I find it's a good balance between pricing, ppi, readability and other factors that one might consider important when looking at external display options.
Frankly, modern computer OS GUIs are not designed to be used on a display that is upwards of 8 or 12 feet away from you, no matter how big it is, or how high its resolution is. They take advantage of high resolution displays so that sitting close to a screen is less taxing on your sight over time. There are alternatives, obviously, like Media Center and Apple's media software, which are designed for using a computer on a television.

  • Macbook pro's doesn't send display to LCD or external monitor

    Hi,
A few weeks back my macbook pro stopped sending output to LCD or external monitor and local apple support guys said that it had a problem in its logic board that needed to be replaced. Since my notebook was long out of warranty and the new logic board would have cost a lot, I just dumped it to my stack of broken hardware.
A few days back I was going through my old hardware and out of sheer curiosity I tried to turn it (the macbook pro) on. Voila! it did turn on however the poor thing complained about HDD being corrupt (I verified it by starting it in single user mode, otherwise it would immediately restart after displaying apple logo). I had the operating system formatted and reinstalled by the support guys.
Last night It stopped talking to display devices again and has been that way since then. Is there any hope for it or should I just scrape the poor thing? It would really break my heart since it works fine otherwise, I can log into it through VNC (I always keep a copy of VNC server on my machines) and it seems to work fine.

    ishaqmalik,
Your "A1226" "santa Rosa model MBP is one of the models which suffers from a well known problem with the Nvidia 8600 GPU.
Apple have an extended repair program which involves the free replacement of the logic board of this computer if tests establish that it suffers from this issue.
Your symptoms sound very like those which the NVidia GPU issue produces (I've suffered it myself).
I'm not sure where you are based, or how long ago you took your computer in (perhaps it was before the extended repair program was instituted? ) but I think you should pursue the possibility that you may be eligible for it. There is a very good chance that you are and that your logic board will be replaced free of charge. See http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377 for further details.
    Cheers

  • The dock indicator lights look fairly dim on the MBA display, but bright on external displays (LCD TVs for example). Any fixes?

    (MacBook Air mid-2012)
As stated in the title, I've noticed the indicator lights on the dock which represent an open/running application looking fairly dim as opposed to the previous dock design in Lion. After a little look around on the internet, there are some others who are having a similar issue, but I've noticed that upon connecting the laptop to external displays (monitors and LCD TVs), they look extremely bright and noticeable on that particular screen.

https://discussions.apple.com/message/19126554#19126554 This thread appears to address the same issue, yet its odd how the dock "raises" if connected to an external display in my case. I'm considering locating the image files used to display the dock indicators and photoshopping them to be brighter.

  • Hooking iMac to external display when LCD is broken

Per the Genious bar people at the Apple store, the LCD display on my iMac is broken.  She told me I could hook it up to an external display and use it or I could get it fixed.  I decided to hook it up to an external display, but from searching other forumns, it looks like it is only extending what is on my desktop and not mirroring it because all I see is the background of my desktop, no icons.  Apparently, I need to go into System preferences and change something.  How can I do this if nothing is showing on the iMac LCD display?  Is there a shortcut key on the keybord or something?

CMD F1 was the keyboard shortcut....

  • MacBook Pro's Color LCD "shifts" when connected to external display?

I have a 2010 MacBook Pro with the hi-res anti-glare screen. I just noticed that the internal color LCD "shifts" its colors when I connect it to an external display (a Dell 2408 WFP). If I disconnect the external display, the colors internal color LCD go back to "normal".
I have two images to show what I mean:
This is what it looks like with the external display disconnected i.e. the MacBook Pro on its own: <http://www.flickr.com/photos/vazexqi/4558641163/sizes/l/>
This is what it looks like with the external display connected: <http://www.flickr.com/photos/vazexqi/4559271260/sizes/l/>
The wallpaper is from pixelgirlpresents.com. I didn't notice this problem before with my older 2006 Core Duo MacBook Pro (OS X 10.5.7).
My guess is that with the external display connected, somehow the color LCD decides to use the external display's profile as well (instead of its own).
Any ideas on why this is happening? And, more importantly, any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks.
    Nick

@Stefan: Thanks for the tip. I tried it but unfortunately it didn't solve the issue. The color is still off.
Incidentally, just out of curiosity, I tried these two things:
    1) I tried the "Mirror Displays" option in the Displays Preference Pane. With this option enabled, both displays actually displayed the right colors (right with respect to how each display is calibrated).
    2) I opened the same desktop wallpaper in Preview. Whenever I drag the Preview window so that it spans/crosses both displays (external and Color LCD), there is a light flicker in the wallpaper in the Preview Window. For that brief moment, I can see that the color is right before it changes to the shifted color on the Color LCD.
I found a possibly related thread on a different forum <http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=37841>. That doesn't seem to help when both displays are connected.
Now, I am just wondering if this is considered normal - wonky color shifts between the desktop/different windows happen when you have two displays connected....
    Nick
PS: Note that I am not a graphics designer so my definition of right/wrong is just based on my experience looking at the wallpaper and remembering what it should look like on each display by itself.

  • How do I set MacBook to an external display when the plug and play doesn't recognize it?  I am trying to set my Samsung 530 LCD as a monitor but HDMI and VGA cords (and the adaptor for them) doesn't seem to work.

I have tried everything I can find on line but they all claim that the plug and play works, and they don't for me.  I tried the mini dvi to HDMI and a HDMI cord and that was not recognized no matter which unit I rebooted first.  I found someone who said that my Macbook might be too old for the HDMI technology so I returned the cords and went to the VGA cord and adaptor.
I tried this first with the HDMI setup:

Then I tried this with the VGA setup:
    http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber/popup/iframe/pop_troubleshooting_fr.jsp?idx= 167901&modelname=LN40C650L1F&modelcode=&session_id=NDhJrD0DQT0Z8KRsm62yhxJxqnyPy SKhlhpB8vQ6h9Q7R2BZJGzj!-1089109758!1761676444!7501!-1!434477884!1761676348!7501 !-1!1292098185857
I contacted Samsung support and they said I needed to set the display settings to external display on the mac.  I went to the display settings and moved the icon to my status bar.  When I click on search for displays or whatever it says (I'm not at my Mac right now) it does nothing.
    What am I missing?

I am using MAC OSx 10.5.8 (9L31a) as my operation system.  The TV says "No signal.  Check connected device's power, cable connection and source selection."  Seems to me that that goes in hand with what the Samsung tech said about the Mac needing to be forces to use the external display.  But how do I do that?

  • Broken LCD - Can not get external Display

My screen is no longer good so im trying to connect a external display.
Been trying for hours trying to get the external display to work of boot.
Ive tryed everything changing 2 sets of hd cables and svga cables. The funcion key.
The Laptop does reconize the display but seems to go into powersave mode or something.
The only way i can get the external display to work is if i pull the battery and wait a bit then power
up the display will work with a notice on the screen that cmos will be reset to defaults then restarts
and back to where i was again... Im thinking it something in the bios thats causing this.

  • LCD External Display reverting to uncalibrated state

After going through the display calibration process, even when going through the process, my external display will only show the calibrated state when i click on something in the calibration assistant or when i click on a profile, then it reverts back to a dull grey uncalibrated state after about half a second. Very frustrating, I just tried using colorsync utility, going to the device and selecting a profile and the exact same thing happens. It's an insignia tv, so maybe its the tv blocking the incoming vga signal for some reason? I have no idea whats going on.

Tough to tell, but most TVs filter the signal in an attempt to smooth it for movies, & makes them unfit for Computer use.

  • Right side of my LCD flickers, but not when connected to external display

The right side of my display flickers lines and inverted colors, but when it is connected to a display (with mirroring) there is no flicker. I have reset PRAM and SMC. Macbook Pro Mid 2012 2.3 GHz A1398.

I should note that when connected to an external display there is no flickering on either display.

  • Can not properly view cover flow in full screen in external display

My mac is the new Mac book pro 15.4 inch screen and I connect my mac pro to external display e.g. Samsung LCD monitor 24 inches.
The bug is that I can not PROPERLY view full screen (in external display) for some application e.g. iTunes, and Front Row.
    - When I use iTunes, I can not properly view Cover Flow view in full screen (in the external display screen) except the case of mirror display.
    - For Front Row, I can not view full screen in external display but only my mac display.
However, for other DVD or VDO players, I can view movie on external display in full screen and I still be able to do other works on my mac screen.
Please let me know how to solve it.

  • How can I disable the internal display on my MacBook Pro with connected external display?

I used this metod with the MagSafe power cable connected (see http://osxdaily.com/2012/06/15/yet-another-way-to-turn-off-internal-lcd-display- of-macbook-pro-with-lid-open/).
Open System Preferences and click “Mission Control”, then click on “Hot Corners”
Select a hot corner and pull down the menu to select “Put Display to Sleep”
Now connect the external display to the Mac and move the cursor to the newly created sleep corner to turn off the internal display
Close the MacBook lid and wait a few seconds before opening the lid again, the internal display should stay off while the external display will be powered on
This worked great under Mac OS X 10.7.4, but after the last update to 10.7.5 it doesn’t work more. The built-in display turns off really, but a few seconds after opening the lid it lights up again. Do you have any suggestions? Dimming the brightness or clamshell mode is not very useful.

I have the same problem: not able to work with my external display mirroring the internal one - while shutting the internal display off.
I believe there is an issue with Mac OS X Lion 7.5 that Apple needs to solve, since apparently it does not happen with this version of the OS only...

  • Mid 2010 15" MBP becomes unresponsive with black screen while plugged into external display?

I have a mid 2010 Macbook Pro, which is 15" and has the 2.66GHZ i7 processor configuration.
Had it for almost a year: No problems
Until about a month ago, laptop began becoming slow to boot, crashing. checked the harddisks, were corrupted and it needed a complete re-install of Snow Leopard. Did this and it seems to be ok ALTHOUGH:
I recently purchased a TEAC LCD TV which i have been using as an external display for my macbook, but have found that while the LCD TV is plugged in and i am using a dual-screen setup my computer and BOTH displays will quite often go black, and macbook will become completely unresponive
This sometimes happens apparantly randomly, but mostly happens when i have been using the external display for a while (30mins+) and use the "Display all Windows" feature of OSX.
I am connecting the macbook to the LCD TV with an Apple Mini-DisplayPort to DVD-D adaptor, which is then plugged into a DVD-D to HDMI adaptor
(As TV has no DVD-D input and i didnt (at the time) want to spend $50 on a Mini-DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor) Could this multiple line of adaptors be causing a problem? surely it wouldnt cause the macbook to die...
Can anybody help me? i have looked all over the internet for anyone with a similar problem with no avail.

UPDATE: This has happened to my macbook again while not plugged into my external monitor and with nothing else plugged in to it expect a USB mouse.
Here is a status report from when i rebooted about 15 minutes ago (Plugged into TEAC LDC, went to 'show all windows' crashhhh..) dont know if there are any clues in here:

  • Problem with T400 and External Display....

I have a new T400 (less than 1 month old) with the shared memory Intel Graphics setup and I cannot get it to work with an external display of any kind.
I've tried 2 LCD panels (one widescreen, and one 4:3), 2 analog monitors, and a video projector without any luck.  All of the displays I have tried work fine with my older Lenovo R61.
I've updated to the newest display drivers and tried working with the various settings under Graphics properties in Vista - Single Display (notebook, monitor), Intel Dual Display, Extended Desktop, etc.  The best I got was a cloned image on the larger widescreen LCD panel that appeared for about 1 minute and then stopped.  I recreated this 4 or 5 times, but the image would not stay on the external display.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

go into bios, check your video output option and whether you selected Internal + VGA, i think... i will check for you on my X60s....
    Regards,
    Jin Li
