Lg m197wdp connect to mac via thunderbolt port

trying to connect mac to lg m197wdp connect to mac via thunderbolt port can not find a mac friendly software update and although the mac screen goes blank for a few seconds when TV is turned on the mac doesn't seem to recognise it as there.

Pinging is fine. How would I check the firewalls?
I also noticed this message in the system log:
/usr/libexec/sshd-keygen-wrapper: getnameinfo() only supports IPv4/IPv6. Connection from address family: 5

can i connect my sony smart TV via thunderbolt port for better resolution.

You can connect the TV via the Thunderbolt port. However if the result is "better resolution" would depend on what resolution you have now (I'm guessing you mean with the HDMI adapter?)
I'm myself connecting the Mini Mac with a Thunderbolt->VGA adapter to my TV and get full 1920x1080 resolution.
Have you checked your Display settings? Make sure mirroring is off, then check what resolutions you can get on the current connection.
Please return with some more data.

  • Is it possible to connect two Macs via USB ?

Is it possible to connect two Macs via USB just like Firewire back in the day via Target mode or is there something similar? I am asking this because about 2-3 years ago I would normally image Macs via Target Mode. I used to have a regular Macbook running 10.6 along with a customized-ready-to-go .dmg image saved on the Desktop. Whenever I needed to put that image into any Mac I would simply connect the two Macs via Firewire, I would then press "T" at startup which will get me in Target Mode, I would then see the disk appear in the desktop of the Mac I had the image. I would then copy that image to the T mode macbook using super duper. Can this still be done through USB with new models and if so will I also need to press T at startup ?

No, USB connection does not qualify for this, only firewire and thunderbolt, as I read (but cannot test, for the time being I have only one such mac around).
This is why the short series of alu MBs (2008) are not qualified for target mode either.
p.s. What ‘new models’ do you refer to?

  • Directly Connect Two Macs Via Ethernet

This has certainly been answered before, but a quick search didn't give any results. So here goes ...
I wanted to connect two macs via ethernet. I use the mount tool in finder "connect to server" all the time with machines on a network, but I've never done with with two macs directly connected.
So I connect them and my first instinct is to check the IP address of the machine I want to connect to. I then go to "connect to server" and type it in using the AFP protocol, but it doesn't work.
At this point I'm stumped and not sure what to do. I don't use the "network" item in the finder sidebar very often but I clicked it, and sure enough the machine I want to connect to was listed, and I was able to connect / mount.
So here's my question ... if I wanted to use "connect to server" tool, or even mount it manually with the mount command, how would I do it? Is it using AFP still to mount and the IP address is just bogus? Something else going on?

But I'm telling you I tried using the IP address ... here, let me try again ...
I find this address on the machine I want to connect to: 169.254.177.122
I put this into "connect to server" on the machine I want to connect from: afp://169.254.177.122
It spins for a while, then says it can't connect. Strangely, if I do a cmd-i on the machine in the network sidebar, it says: nfs:// automount ... into /Network
So are you sure putting in the ip should work? If so what am I doing wrong?
Okay ... plot thickens. When I cmd-i after I connect, it indeed says it is an AFP connect, but it gives the "local" name, say powerbook.local. But then, if I "ping powerbook.local" if gives me back the same IP I tried in connect to server. Huh?
    mbp:~ rjcarr$ ping powerbook.local
    PING powerbook.local (169.254.177.122): 56 data bytes
Weird. It isn't that big of a deal ... I just like to know what is going on.

  • Connect mac via thunderbolt

    Hello,
I was messing around with my 2011 imac, retina display macbook pro and a thunderbolt cable. I wondered wether it would be possible for the to computers to be "connected", not via any target mode (display or disc). just connected, i know it sounds weird but i think it would be cool to work on both computers with one mouse and keyboard. This way i dont have to switch from one pc to another. Besides using 1 keyboard, sharing files would be super easy.
I was wondering if a function like this exists. If not, apple please look in to it. I hate restarting my macbook or imac for file transfer via thunderbolt...
    Thanks in advance!

  • How to connect VGA Monitor via Thunderbolt Display

I've been using my Macbook Air mid 2013 with a Samsung monitor connected via the Mini Display Port to VGA adapter. I've now bought a 27" Thunderbolt display, which I've connect to my Mac, and assumed I could now daisy chain my samsung monitor into the Thunderbolt port in the back of the monitor. This isn't working.
Is this expected behaviour? Some people have said online that it will work if there's some other Thunderbolt peripheral between the Thunbolt Display and the VGA adapter, but I don't know what kind of peripheral they mean.
Apple support says that my model Macbook air can power two external displays.
How can I get this to work?
    Thank you

I want to know if I can connect a vga monitor to the quad by simply getting a vga to dvi adaptor.
    Yes, you can.

  • Mac mini thunderbolt port stop working

    Good night.
First, I apologize for my English.
I have a mac mini (2011 model). Two days ago there was a power outage and the mac shut down. After turning it on, it failed to recognize my TV connected through the Thunderbolt port (with a adapter THUNDERBOLT -> HDMI).
When I disconnect and connect the adapter into the thunderbolt output, the screen flashes (as if he had recognized the second monitor). However, the monitor does not work.
    Some Details:
    1) In the monitor settings, only the main, connected by HDMI is detected;
    2) On the "System Information" screen, the "Thunderbolt" item appears to state “no device connected";
    3) I've done the reset PRAM / SMC.
Can anyone help me? Does my thunderbolt output fried?
    Thank you,
    Mateus.

I would try a different HDMI cable and then a different Thunderbolt/MiniDisplay Port to HDMI adapter.

  • IPad won't stay connected to Mac via USB

I was attempting to install the latest update to my iPad2 via the USB cable connected to my 2013 MacBook Pro Retina with the latest Mavericks and iTunes update installed. I left the download and install to complete overnight as it was taking a long time. When I checked it in the morning, my iPad was in recovery mode. I was supposed to reset the iPad back to factory specs. It would not recognize my last backup at all although it was on my Mac. I was finally able to get the iPad back to its original factory software. I then tried to update to that backup. Somewhere along the line during that effort, the iPad went back into recovery mode again.
Since that time whenever I plug in the iPad using the usb connector to the Mac, the connection begins to fluctuate rapidly on and off. It does not maintain a connection for even a whole second! I then tried connected the iPad using a different USB cable and after that a different USB port. Finally I even tried it using a hub as a go-be-tween. None of these options worked. I then tried connecting the iPad to a power outlet to charge to see if there was a problem there. It connected to power just fine and charged the  iPad.
At this point I'm stymied and don't know what else I can or should try. Any help would be appreciated.

I can't imagine that this would help but have you tried resetting the iPad and then try recovery mode again? It may not help, but it can't hurt anything at this point. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time until the Apple logo appear on the screen. After it restarts, try to restore again.
If that fails, do you have another computer that you could use to try to restore on?

  • How to connect my ps3 via thunderbolt to my imac 27'late 2012?

I have a new imac an old ps3 and will buy the new ps4 once available.
Is anyone aware comcerning a solution to connect these devices?
I need a solution video in (thunderbolt) to video out (hdmi) would prefer of course if sound would go the same way.
    Thanks

You would need a display port to HDMI adapter. One of the newer features (which the 2012 iMac has) is that it can display this type of content like a DVD player to the iMac.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/TY600VC/A/griffin-mini-displayport-to-hdmi-wit h-audio-dvi
Use the above link to review that item. It also has a DVI adapter that you would not use. But the display port to HDMI is the correct item. Then you connect the PS3 to the hdmi on it. I don't think it would passthrough audio though so you would have to figure something out for sound.

  • Dell U2711 black screen when connected to Mac via DisplayPort

I currently have a Dell U2711 27" monitor connected to my Mac Mini through DVI (it uses a DVI to mini-DVI adapter at the PC end). However, I cannot get the full resolution of the monitor 1920 x 1080 maximum is offered were the monitors maximum resolution is 2560 x 1440.
I did some Googling and seemed it required DisplayPort connection to achieve this. No dramas. I ordered a Mini-DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable.
I plugged this in and all I get on the Dell is a black screen. The monitor doesn't go into power save mode or anything like that, just displays nothing - an illuminated black screen.
I pulled out my MacBook and connected the cable to that, same deal. The Mac recognises that the cable has been connected (as the laptops LCD goes blue for a second or two while it detects the new monitor).
    Any ideas?
I also had a DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable here which was included with the monitor from Dell, which I will test aswell when my miniDisplayPort to DisplayPort adapter arrived.

Yes, that is one means, but...
However, HDMI 1.3 can also carry resolutions higher than 1920 x 1080 - check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI - not really an option on the Dell monitor though, as it only supports up to 1080p on the HDMI connection. However, there is a thread elsewhere on the internet of a user who forced his Windows laptop to use 2560 x 1440 resolution via the HDMI output and the Dell monitor accepted it!
In addition, so can DisplayPort - as per my original post.
The Apple Dual-Link DVI adapter is plagued with issues and has a lot of faults, so I'd rather avoid it. It is also significantly higher priced than the above option of DP.

  • How do I connect two monitors to thunderbolt port on MBP 13

The apple rep told me it can be done without Matrox using the dual DVI link, but other people on the web say no.  I'm trying to figure out for sure. I want to connect my two non-apple 24" displays.

I thought that was the only was with an apple thunderbolt display, however the Apple rep who was in a Best Buy store told me he had seen the 13" connected to two non-apple displays.  If it can be done, I think it's going to be a little weird.  Maybe I'll just put one display on the thunderbolt with a dvi connector and the other one on the usb port.  As long as I'm not gaming, it should be okay to have a slight lag.  Thoughts?

  • Connecting to projector via display port

I have been using the display port on W700 via HDMI cable to connect to my projector OK and then next day can not get either to talk to each other.  What might be wrong?  Have tried connecting both in alternate ways with cable - switching one and then other etc to no avail.  I did go to Presentation Director after using both and ticked "Capture Display settings" but unticking etc makes no difference and finally I uninstalled PD and reinstalled.

    Hi StormTiger,
If you are having issues with the VGA out on your MacBook Pro, you may want to try the troubleshooting steps in the following article to see if you can isolate the issue. In particular, if possible you may want to test it with a different Mini-DisplayPort to VGA adapter to see if the issue is with the adapter or the computer.
