LG monitor won't let me shut down completely

I just got an LG monitor (L1932). When connected to my mac running 10.4.7, it won't shut down all the way. The mac appears to completely shut down, but then it immediately boots back up, almost as if I had chosen "Restart" instead of "Shut Down." It won't "Sleep" either, as it immediately wakes back up. The reboot / wake up seem to happen as the monitor shows a 'power saving' message.
I've tried my old monitor, and the problem goes away. I've zapped PRAM. I'm not getting a response from LG support either.
A friend suggested maybe I had a bad Tiger install, and I should do a clean install. I've also heard that LG has bad support for Apple users.
Any ideas?
G4 Mac OS X (10.4.7)

I've switched out the video cable, but the same thing is happening. There is also no USB cable hooked up.
I am able to completely shut down by unplugging the monitor. I first select "Shut Down," which brings up the confirmation alert. Then, I unplug the monitor. Finally , I hit the Enter key to confirm the shut down. Obviously, though, this is unacceptable.

• I downloaded the new Firefox but it constantly freezes, doing absolutely nothing, and I can't even close it from my Mac dock bar, I have to turn off my laptop using the power button as Firefox won't let me shut down. What can I do?

Hi
I recently downloaded the new Firefox (Firefox 4, I think - you can tell I'm very tech savvy!) and it constantly freezes, I can't do anything with it at all - I can't even close it from the icon in my Mac dock bar.
I have tried restarting my computer - though I have to turn it off by using the power button as as Firefox is open and totally unresponsive it won't let me shut down. About a minute after re-starting Firefox, restoring my tabs or starting afresh, it freezes again.
This is obviously very annoying and I'm not sure what I can do about it. Firefox is my preferred browser, and I'd really like to be able to use it again!

This is not a reply. I just want to elaborate on this problem.
My computer freezes occasionally when it is used after being sleep for a while. The spinning ball appears and everything is totally disabled. Nothing on the keyboard works.
The mouse moves, but does not work.
The only solution is to turn the power off and on (losing all data in open applications.)
I kept the System monitor running on the side to find out which program was running when the computer froze. The Monitor as well as all other applications froze, but the data showed:
Firefox 18.4%
Activity Monitor 0.9%
Firefox Plugin 0.2%
This is all the information I have. By the way, I am using iMac with OS 10.6.

My mail won't open but it won't close on my finder bar...won't let me shut down my Mac.

Choose Force Quit from the Apple menu and shut it down from there. If that doesn't work, save and close everything you can, and then use the Activity Monitor in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder to force quit the loginwindow process.

Quit Safari. Force quit if necessary.
Relaunch Safari by holding down the shift key and clicking its icon in the Dock. That will stop the bad page from reloading automatically. From the menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
to get rid of any cookies or other data left by the server. Open your Downloads folder and delete anything you don't recognize.

• Outlook won't let computer shut down

Hi, when I try to shut down my MacBook Air it says I need to close outlook first. There is a permanent outlook screen that says "Weclome to office for Mac 2011" asking me to enter product key, set up etc. I use all the other programs but have no need to use outlook and I don't have the boxes allowing me to close the screen. When I quit the application it doesn't go anywhere. My computer now won't shut down and as I need to install updates for unrelated software, I can't because the computer won't restart. Can anyone help?

Thank you so so much! How embarrassing it was that simple

• Firefox won't fully open, won't quit or force quit, and won't let computer shut down.

No screen, so I can't start in safe mode; won't quit; won't force quit; won't let me uninstall the app; won't allow the computer to restart because the app is supposedly "open"

Rebooting the computer should close everything.
Start '''[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode Firefox in Safe Mode]''' {web Link} by holding down the '''<Shift ''(Mac Options)'' >''' key, and then starting Firefox. Is the problem still there?
While you are in safe mode;
Type '''about:preferences#advanced'''<Enter> in the address bar.
Under '''Advanced,''' Select '''General.'''
Look for and turn off '''Use Hardware Acceleration'''.
Poke around safe web sites. Are there any problems?

• I update my Macbook Air (OSX mountain Lion) and it just hung up half way updating. Trying to shut it down but it just won't let me shut down. I don't know whats's wrong.

Anyone knows how to stop this update? Or how to continue the update so that my Macbook can be shut down or restarted...

Since you updated the operating system, it is probably Minecraft is missing certain files that ware remove or are not longer comparable with the new version of the OSX. what I recommend, is to check is there is an update for Minecraft and install that. If there is not update available, probably the best thing will be reinstalling Minecraft. Hope this will help you.

• Reader 9 won't let me shut down my computer. File reader_sl won't close.

I have Reader 9 on my machine and when I try to shut down my computer, the file named
reader_sl.exe will not quit. I tried to load Reader X but Adobe tried to load two other programs onto my computer at the same time, programs that I had not agreed to accept. This is an immoral act. Therefore, I aborted the download. How do I get my machine to shut down
without deleting that file and screwing up Reader 9? Or is there a non-Adobe site where
I can download Reader X without being cr..ped on?

Choose Force Quit from the Apple menu and close Safari from there.

• How do I uninstall iPhoto from my MacBook Pro? It won't let me shut down my computer cause it keeps telling me to wait for my images to import, but there isn't anything importing...?

I can't shut my computer down side my iPhoto app is telling me that it's importing pictures, but not is happening & I wanted to uninstall iPhoto to see if that would work. Please some one help me! This is annoying.

The "Importing" message can be cause by a corruption of your iPhoto library - then uninstalling will not help. Try this:
Force Quit iPhoto:
From the -menu in the upper left corner of the screen:  > Force quit ⌥⌘⎋
Then select iPhoto from the panel.
Then fix your iPhoto library and remove the "Importing" folder from the library -
see this post by LarryHN how to do it:

Hi mltmj123,
Welcome to the Support Communities!
To address this issue, I would suggest you close all open apps, then restart and reset your iPhone. Here's how:
iOS: Force an app to close
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

• MSI Z87I Won't Reboot or Shut DOwn

My new system won't shut down or reboot from the OS (Ubuntu 14.04) or from the BIOS settings, i.e. Settings -> Save & Exit -> Save Changes and Reboot will not reboot the system. All my peripherals will turn off, but the fans stay on and the only way to power off the system is to long-hold the power switch on the front of the case or turn off the power at the PSU.
There is ONE case in which the system will reboot. If I go to Settings -> Save & Exit, choose "Restore Defaults" and then select "Save Changes and Reboot," the system will reboot one time, but it won't reboot or shut down after this.
I'm already on my second MoBo since I thought it was a MoBo issue.
Specs:
SSD: Patriot Pyro 60GB
Memory: 2x PNY 4GBH2X02E99927-16-H
CPU: Intel Core i3-4150 LGA1150
PSU: Thermaltake TR2 500W
I've tried reseating the MoBo as well as testing it outside of the case with no luck.

Ah, thanks! Got it.
It looks to me like that is a different link to the same program, as when I downloaded it I got 'MSIHQ Tool 1.25g Installer(1).rar' as the filename, since I had just downloaded 'MSIHQ Tool 1.25g Installer.rar' from the link I posted (or perhaps from a page pointed to by that page, I've already forgotten where I got it...)
I notice that the '180' file has a batch file that runs 'fpt'. Am I supposed to run that batch file, or run 'efiflash bios.bin'? (Or both if this is the first time I've flashed the motherboard)

em nope, its the same program. (1) is auto renamed because the same name was already existing in your download folder

no need to run anything
just let the tool to prepare the USB key then boot from it
when this menu appear select option 2:
1 Run Memtest
2 Proceed with BIOS Update
3 Flash back to prevision bios
then press any key after read some safety instructions
then when asked if you want to Run Memtestx86, answer with "N"
then flash will start and will be asked for reboot when its done
you no need to type or run anything manually, its tottaly automated
