LG or Samsung Display

I understand that the new 2013 MacBook Air comes with either the LG or Samsung screen.  Also that the Samsung screen is sharper.  How does one determine this before purchase?  Is there a code or serial # revealing such?  Thanks,  Sam

"I understand that the new 2013 MacBook Air comes with either the LG or Samsung screen."
That is correct.
"Also that the Samsung screen is sharper."
Is that a question, or a statement?
"How does one determine this before purchase?"
Theres are series of commands you can enter, and those instructions are on this forum.  Search.
"Is there a code or serial # revealing such?"
No.
"Thanks,  Sam"
You're most welcome.

  • How to get samsung display

i first had samsung display, ants got into the display.Got the screen replaced but they gave me lg. So talked to customer care got it replaced again but they gave me new lg screen. Both the lg panels have yellow tint and very low brightness. How do i get a samsung panel. Macbook pro late 2013.

As the TV has HDMI and VGA your choices are to either:
Buy the MiniDVI to VGA adaptor from Apple (plus a VGA cable) or,
Buy a DVI to HDMI connector (link).
Although HDMI can handle sound as neither DVI, MiniDVI nor VGA do you'll need to connect the sound separately. Simply connect the sound out on the iMac to the input on the TV.

  • Using mini-DVI to VGA adapter to Samsung display

I have 2009 late model of mac mini, The text on display looks washed out, not clear or sharp at all from day one, I thought it was the old model of monitor, tried the same cable to another monitor on another computer, SAME. so I thought the problem could be the cable or adapter.
It's hard for me to believe is the signal from computer. I'm using VGA adapter made by Dynex bought from Best Buy.
    Anybody has suggestions?? Thanks

Yeah, My old Samsung is lcd synmaster 17", bought many years ago at around $1000. Crazy, crazy price looked back. It's fine when I used it on the retired old Dell. It must be the adapter, trying not to buy another VGA adapter, could not image my next lcd will use one, anyway.
This cable has only 14 pins vs 15 pins on the other cable, not sure if it matters?? Or if Safari has anything to do with it??
    Thank for you reply...

  • Speckles on external Samsung Display when connected to my Macbook Pro

When I connect my MacBook Pro to my Samsung SyncMaster 2693HM monitor via a mini display port DVI adapter, I get loads of speckles on the display. They vary in colour depending on the display colour and are driving me mad!
Webcam video of this effect here http://gallery.me.com/wildj/100399
Doesn't do it when connected via the VGA adapter.
Anyone else had any problems like this?
    Jim

I have exactly the same issue - just got my brand new apple adapter, and to my great disappointment the monitor just blinks. It is the same monitor - Samsung SyncMaster 2693HM. The cables seem to be right - single link DVI-D cables, I tried three of them, one of them actually produced what could be considered a picture - but it is not usable - blinking and shaking. VGA adaptor works fine. I was hoping to get better quality with DVI, but it seems to be not possible in my setup. To add to it, I have another two Samsung monitors - 2232GW, and 245T - the same issue. Could the adaptor be faulty? Though it doesn't seem to be the case, as there are a lot of posts about this problem.

  • Text looks blurred on Samsung display

    Hi,
So, I have just gotten a Samsung SyncMaster TA550 for Christmas. I have it connected to my MBP13 mid-2012 (2,5GHz i5, 8GB of RAM, Intel HD Graphics 4000) with a HDMI cable and a Dr. Bott HDMI & DVI to Mini Displayport adapter.
The display looks absolutely fabulous as long as watch videos, but text looks like crap, all blurry, and gives me headaches, not matter if it's text I'm currently writing (in pages or online) or the song list in iTunes for example. The problem is: I mainly wanted to use this display for writing. Also the bars in pretty much every programme I've used so far have this strange grey blur to them.
I'll attach screencaps of both text and video on the screen. You'll see the grey blur in the safari window.
I toyed around with resolutions and practically all the display settings in OS X and the display itself - nothing worked. It looks slightly better when I change to 720p instead of 1080p or 1080i using underscan to fill the display, but that's not what we want, right?
Currently it's set back to "Best for display" and a 60 hertz refresh rate.
I thought that maybe the adapter (which wasn't a particularly expensive one) might be the problem, so I have now ordered a HDMI to Mini Displayport cable that had good reviews online. It might take a few days for that one to arrive though, and I was hoping that maybe I could solve the problem without having to use that one.
I hope you'll be able to help me, cause honestly, this is getting annoying.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sabrina
Strangely the screencap looks good on my MBP's LCD...

I have been switching from PC to MAC for the last couple years. One of the last bones was my desktop computer which had a SAMSUNG 29'' HD monitor.
Last friday I bought a MAC MINI and connected it to the Samsung thru HDMI. I had almost a breakdown when I realized the blurry text from the OS X against the crisp and bright text from the Windows machine. I started to investigate without any luck until I came across this post. Thank you MissKillALot, you save my day! Finally now I have a monitor working like it should, and no more PCs at home!!!
P.S. No wonder people keep ditching Samsung equipment: For the HDMI - DVI PC port to work properly you have to "RENAME" the port from HDMI to DVI PC. Rename? Who thinks that by "renaming" some port it will actually change its properties? Is this on purpose to annoy the user?

  • New Samsung Display

I've just purchased a new samsung 19" LCD tv (LNT1954) (1440x900) to use with my mac mini. It is hooked up with the supplied DVI to VGA adapter, and from there VGA to the computer. I had an acer (1440x900) resolution (hooked up identically) and it worked fine, but now on my samsung, there is a black bar at the top and left side of my screen. Apart from being shifted down and to right, the screen seems to be (fairly close to) proportionate. In my display settings, the highest resolution available to choose is 1376x768 (resolution of most samsung tvs), so my mini won't allow me to choose a 1440x900 format. My mini is recognizing that it's a samsung because there is an option for samsung's preset colours in my colour menu. I'm wondering if possibly samsung has a default setting of 1376x768 that is uses for its other tvs that hasn't been reconciled for the 19" model.
Is there a way to force my mini to go to a 1440x900 resolution, or is it the tv not allowing my to input anything more than 1376x768?
    Thanks
Mac mini   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Your Samsung is a TV, not a monitor. Page 34 of the user manual says the highest supported resolution in PC mode is 1360 x 768. Lame. Return it and get your money back if you need a computer monitor.

  • MacPro with Samsung Display 4K

Hey there, i want to buy a new MacPro (Late2013), with two AMD FirePro D500 GPUs - and a Samsung U28D590D.
(Samsung 4K Display 3840x2160 resolution). Are there some issues with this display and the graphic cards - or will it work fine ?
Does anybody has some experience with this display ?
Hope you can help me .

Hey man, just curious if you ever completed that set up. Reason i ask, is because I have the same set up, and I am trying to find the best settings for the monitor, and also the mac pro preferences to use.
I was using a Thunderbolt Display, and am hoping I didn't make a mistake jumping on the "4K" Bandwagon

  • External Samsung Display broken @ 1920x1080 after Lion upgrade

    Hi,
The more I use Mac OS 10.7 Lion the more I notice it's defects and the more I get upset with it.
After the WIFI issue (wifi network does not reconnect after sleep mode) I am now facing an issue with my external display.
I have actually two MacBook Pro unibody from 2009. One is a 13' with Mac OS X 10.6.8 the second one is a 15' from the same year recently upgraded to Lion 10.7. I used to watch movies on my Samsung TV using a VGA cable connected to a Mini DVI to VGA Adapter with the TV native resolution of 1920x1080.
It used to work flalessly on my MBP 15' 10.6.8 but since the Lion upgrade the screen seems not to support this mode anymore. The image on the TV apprears for 2 seconds then disappears for 3 seconds and so on...
I checked that the very same configuration still works on the MBP 13' with 10.6.8.
It clearly means that Lion broke this.... oh crap....
I was really expecting less bugs from Apple. Well at least I am now expecting a way to fix this issue.
    PLEASE.

    Good News Here
I was able to fix my problem, i called the Apple Support to report my issue, they pointed me to this link:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1573
So here is *exactly* what I did, step by step, to solve my issue:
    1. Shut down the Mac,
    2. Press the power button to start the computer,
    3. Immediately press and hold the Command (Apple) key and the "s" key for single-user mode (Command-S)
    4. At the prompt, type the command "mount -uw /" and press Return.
    5. Now do the following:
    > rm /Library/Preferences/com.apple.windowserver.plist (press return)
    > cd /Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/ByHost (press return)
(Replace the text "<username>" above with your username, which is also the name of your Home folder)
    > rm com.apple.windowserver.*.plist (press return)
    > reboot (READ the next item BEFORE pressing return, you will need to reset your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM, the next point explains how)
    6. When rebooting press and hold the "Command", "Option", "P" and "R" keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the SECOND time.
    7. Release the keys to proceed with normal startup.
    8. Once ready, connect your external display and... pray.
For me it worked, I now have my full HD resolution (1920x1080) back on my Samsung TV.
Hope it works for you too guys, keep me posted !
    Cheers,

  • How do I get rid of random screen flicker and black screen when using a late 2013 Mac Pro with a 4k Samsung 55" Display?

I have a new Mac Pro late 2013 and a 55" 4k Samsung display connected using an HDMI cable. For the most part the display is amazing, however, I get occasional screen flicker and black outs. Can anyone help? Could I possibly have a bad video card?

4K displays take more than half the bandwidth of a ThunderBolt Bus. So you may get better results if you are careful to place them on their own Bus. This article has the explanation of which port is using which Bus:

  • Retina to Samsung Syncmaster monitor: NO DISPLAY

I have recently bought a Macbook 15" retina. I already had the Samsung monitor display. (syncmaster 2333HD).
But when I'm connecting them with the thunderbolt to HDMI converter, I get no display on my Samsung display, nothing.
The only thing I note, is that my macbooc's screen gives a blue flash when I pull out the cable (thunderbolt).
    Can somebody please help me?
    Thanks

    I'm having the same problem.
Here's what's happening on my end:
Macbook Pro Retina 15" is suppose to 'Plug & Play' easily to Samsung 23" Monitor (syncmaster 2333) using thunderbolt to DVI cable.
This monitor only offers a DVI and VGA ports.
Also, tried using the rMBP's HDMI cable to HDMI-DVI adapter in the Samsung monitor. (same symptoms as with other cable)
rMBP's screen shows blue for a moment when the cable is removed or connected from computer port then goes back to normal screen.
Samsung Moniter's blue power light on the bottom edge of the screen blinks at 1 sec intervals (so power isn't an issue)
After pressing the "Menu" button on the side of the monitor a "test good" message displays in the top left corner for a moment then goes blank. (actual monitor menu does not show)
After pressing the 4th button from the top (looks like a back arrow or return arrow icon) it seems to switch from digital to analog (I think) and a floating message displays "Check Signal Cable" with a red, green, and blue box and "Analog"  in the floating box. During this the monitor's blue power light on the edge of the screen is a steady solid blue not blinking anymore.
System Preferences Display doesn't show any indication of sensing another monitor is connected.
I have tried to connect to a Samsung 46" HDTV via HDMI to HDMI port and that works wonderfully yet isn't practical for my desk set up. Just glad to know that something actually worked and I'm not cursed.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong here. Would really like to use this 2nd monitor. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I hope I gave enough details.
    Thank you in advance!
    Cathy

  • MacBook Pro won't display on my SAMSUNG 2232BW monitor

Allright, so i bought this nice macbook pro 2 days ago and it works fantastic. I got myself a mini-dvi to HDMI converter so i can connect my external 2232BW samsung display to it. The mac detects the thing just fine, gets the model number and everything and all the settings appare to be right, but i get no image on the display. I hooked the display up to my old PC laptop which has an HDMI port and works fine. So there is either something with my mac or my mini-dvi to HDMI adapter.
    Any ideas?

I had a problem just like that. I use a mini-dp to hdmi adapter to connect my mbp in a tv with a hdmi-hdmi cable.
I have another computer with a dvi interface and I can connect it to the same tv using a hdmi-dvi cable. Using a dvi-dvi it also works with my 2232 monitor.
But, if I use this hdmi-dvi cable with the minidp-hdmi adapter to connect the mbp to 2232 monitor, it doesn't work. The mbp detects the monitor, brand, model and resolution but I get no image in the display.
So, I'm pretty sure that the adapter is working, the cable is working, the monitor is working. But not all them together :S

  • My Apple Mini Display Port/HDMI adapter is not working after upgrading to Maverick?

I am using my 13" Macbook Pro Purchased July 2013 on my 42" Samsung TV.  I route through a HDMI adapter (purchased from Apple) to do my presentations. As a note my setup has been working great for the last year. Immediately following the upgrade to Maverick my Samsung displays "No Signal" and changes state "Check Signal Cable" when the cable is disconnected.  Obviously there is some type of signal but it is not recognized.  I tried working with Apple support and they said that the adapter I was using must not be an Apple product.  I investigated fully thinking I may have possibly bought the wrong item, after much research I have exactly the same thing sold on the Apple store online and I even went to 3 Apple stores locally to see if there was possibly another adapter that I should have purchased, but it was exactly the same thing I purchased originally.  Help me fix the problem or please provide details on how to go back in operating systems to prior to Maverick (and not lose any of my data), this upgrade was a huge mistake way to many problems and not the quality that I am used to from Apple.

Had a similar problem, but the answer is not a good one.
You are going to have to wait until Apple fix this as some 3rd party monitors are not supported by this update.
    So you can:
    Go back to 10.6.7
    Wait for Lion
    or
Use Onxy to clear up your computer and it may link to it again.
I deleted some preference files, which when they rebuilt themselves after a restart did the trick.
It worked for me, let me know how you get on?

  • How to connect two DVI screens to Thunderbolt Display's Thunderbolt Port?

    Hi everyone,
I have a new MBP and an external Thunderbolt Display. The Thunderbolt Display itself has a Thunderbolt port, and I was wondering if there is anyway to connect to DVI screens to that. My goal is to have the Thunderbolt Display and 2 x 24" Samsung DVI screens connected to my MBP.
Alternatively, has anyone had success using a third party device like the Matrox 2 go to drive multiple monitors from the usb port?
    Thanks,
    Dave.

You could try a TB>DVI adapter (here's one from Monoprice) but I don't know that it will work - I'm thinking that you could have at least one of your Samsung displays use it. You may also want to see if you can find a HDMI>DVI adapter for your second Samsung display - something like this?
I know that I've seen three monitor set-ups on YouTube - but I'm not sure what was connected to what. Easy enough to daisy-chain ATDs but it gets a bit tougher when utilizing HDMI ports, etc., and I'm not sure about the GPUs ability to drive all three displays.
Oops - sorry - strike that second paragraph - I thought that you were running a Retina display MBP...
