LG Revolution frozen, cannot even get to work in Safe Mode

I've had my LG Revolution phone for nearly ten months now. Everything worked great for the first few months, however I started having problems with the phone freezing randomly in about June. I'd pull out the battery, turn the phone back on and everything would be fine. However, in the past two months or so, my phone will completely lock up. I'll pull the battery and put it back in, but when I re-boot the phone, only the status bar will come up. The rest of the screen remains blank. My wallpapers don't come up, nothing. I cannot unlock the phone by sliding up with my thumb or anything. Again, the status bar works - I just can't get anything else to work on the phone. The only time I can even get the screen to light up is immediately after I plug it in. The status bar will show I have e-mail or text messages or voice mails, but I'm completely unable to unlock the screen to view any of this stuff. Even the time on the upper right hand stays current - but again, the main screen will lock in at whatever time I re-booted the phone. It says "No Service" even when I'm in an area where I have perfect signal and I'm on the 4G Network. I've tried removing the memory card and SIM card and re-booting without either one of them in. I get the same problem. When my alarm goes off, I can still hit the snooze button or turn it off - but the phone goes immediately back to a black screen. I can even receive phone calls, but again the screen reverts back to it's previous state once I end the call. The main screen even looks weird, as the "Slide up to unlock" words at the bottom of the screen are below the face plate, making them only half visible. This has happened four times in the last two months. While in this state, the phone eats up the battery. While I can usually get the battery to last all day, if my phone is locked up like this, I can't get it to stay charged for more than 5 - 6 hours. While doing some research, I found out how to re-start the phone in Safe Mode. Even in Safe Mode, I get the exact same problem. The status bar shows everything is perfectly fine - but the main part of the screen is screwy, as I've mentioned above. The previous times, after about 8 - 10 hours, my phone will suddenly light up and my background will come on and I will get the sound that I've received new messages, etc. The phone will then work perfectly fine. I'm hesitant to take it into a store or call customer service - all they're going to do is do the same stuff I've already tried in order to get the phone to work normally. I'd like to try a factory reset to see if it will work properly then, but according to the help screen, if it is an app that is causing the problem, the phone should work fine in Safe Mode - and again, as I've said, my phone remains frozen/locked even in Safe Mode. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone and use Remote Wipe to erase the contents of your device. If you have been using iCloud to back up, you may be able to restore the most recent backup to reset the passcode after the device has been erased.
You can also wipe the iOS device by installing the FindMyiPhone app on another iOS device and using that app to wipe the device.
Place the iPod in recovery mode using one of these programs:

• How do I force-eject a CD when I cannot even get to the start-up screen?

Friends, Let me first apologize for getting myself into this mess, in the first place.
I bought a second-hand iBook G4 in the U.S., for a friend of mine, and brought it to South America, where I am living for one year, but far from any Mac Repair Center. I am getting the computer ready, to give to my friend, as a gift.
The computer was working perfectly here for the few weeks that I have had it. It has OS 10.3.9 installed, but no OS9. I wanted to install OS9, so that I could give my friend some older software to use with it.
(In fact, I inserted the software CDROM that I was going to give to my friend, into the second computer, to install the program before giving him the disk also. This was an important mistake.)
Moreover, the OS9 disk that came with this second "new" computer does not appear to be the same one that shipped with the computer originally. Consequently, when I tried to install OS9 Classic, it would not install correctly from this disk (although it was indeed made for installing OS9 to another iBookG4, but not this one, apparently.)
Consequently, as a short-cut, I simply copied my own Classic "system folder" from my own (completely) identical iBookG4, transferred it to a pen drive, and was going to move it to the second computer. Not all of the files copied successfully, however (some printer descriptions, for example), but most of them did.
So, I transferred what I could, in the meantime, and now I had a new Classic "system folder" on the second computer.
When starting up the Mac Classic environment there, however, the Classic environment would crash, and in that case I would just close the Classic environment altogether and continue normally in OSX mode, trying to solve the problem. I realized that my "copy" was not good enough.
Then I got the idea to make an "archive" of the original classic folder on my own computer, and then transfer the archive, to see if it would make a more perfect copy this way. It archived perfectly indeed, and at half the size, so I assumed that I would now have all the necessary documents, once it was transferred and decompressed onto the second computer.
Meanwhile, I decided to erase the incomplete corrupt copy of the (classic) system folder on the second computer, to avoid confusion when the new copy was transferred. As I moved it to the trash, the computer told me that it was being used by the system, and that it therefore could not be deleted. Since the classic environment was not running, I assumed that this was some sort of error, meant to protect the folder from accidental deletion regardless of the circumstances. Consequently I re-named the folder, and then deleted it successfully, and received no error message.
I went back to the first computer, to copy the new, archived classic folder to my pen drive. When I did, and returned to the second computer, I noticed that the screen was black there, but the disk, still spinning.
I checked to see if it was the display, or the connection, or if the computer was sleeping, or the screen saver activated, but none was the case.
I re-booted, but there was no start-up chime. The disk spun normally (or perhaps more loudly than normal).
I re-booted, holding down P and R, but no results. The display was completely black (i.e., no ilumination whatsoever, not merely a dark screen, but rather black).
I concluded that the source of the problem was what I had done with the classic folder (renaming it or deleting it).
I got the idea of inserting the system disk, to reboot from the CDROM, but the problem was that there was already a software disk inside, and it would not eject when the eject button was pushed.
I found some suggestions online. I rebooted holding down the track-pad button, for example. No results.
I rebooted holding down CMD OPT SHIFT O F, (or whatever the combinations were that were suggested). No results. I cannot even get a terminal screen to appear, much less a gray screen.
If I close the lid while the computer is running, the computer will NOT go into sleep mode. (So much for the suggestion about forcing an eject from sleep mode).
I noticed a comment online that there might be a force-eject hole inside the felt, but I do not know how to move the felt back well enough to see, nor do I know where to look, or whether there is even such a hole on this model. (if you know of a diagram or photograph online, please direct me)
(Incidentally, if it is any help regarding the model, it is of serial no. UV445CLX_ _ _ , assembled in Taiwan)
How can I force eject the CDROM inside?
Is the solution to reboot from the system software disk, once I succeed in ejecting the CDROM?

You cannot boot an iBook from an external USB drive--only a firewire drive. Actually, the drive is just a drive--it is the enclosure that determines USB vs. FireWire. If you could find an appropriate firewire enclosure, you could remove the drive from the USB enclosure and place it in a firewire enclosure and then be able to boot from that. Or you could just purchase an external firewire drive if those are available where you are.
FireWire external drives are quite useful. One option would be to mount the external drive on the good iBook, format it properly for OS X with Disk Utility, and then use a program like Super Duper to make an exact clone of your internal hard drive. This is a popular way of backing up your stuff. You can boot from either the internal or the external. This means that if your internal hard drive were to die, you would have all your stuff on the external, and could run off of that. Since you are already using the USB for backup, it would probably be best to acquire a new firewire drive for troubleshooting and testing if you decide to go this route, since you really don't want to lose your existing backup.
If you did have a bootable clone, you could see if the sick iBook would boot from it or not. However, it may be more productive to pursue your other thread about the boot problem. I see that Richard has joined the thread as I had hoped he would. He actually works on iBooks and is very knowledgeable.
Also, if you do get the second ibook working and want to install OS9, you might want to post a question in the "Mac OS X v 10.3 Panther and earlier" forum. I'm not up on this myself, but I believe there is something about installing OS 9 drivers while formating or something like that. I believe the smart guys on that forum could give you some guidance so that you can avoid the problems you encountered earlier.
Good luck!

• Firefox crashes on my Mac every time I try to open it. How do I fix this if I cannot even get it to open.

I cannot get Firefox to even open on my Mac desktop. It crashes every time I try to use it and it will not even allow me to send a report. Some sites I need to visit caution me not to use Safari, but that Firefox is safe. If I cannot even get it to open, how am I supposed to use or fix any problem with Firefox.
It just suddenly started to crash on its own and I am not a computer wiz, so what do I do on my Mac to successfully open and use Firefox as a browser?

You can try to start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] by holding down the Options key.

• I changed my main page to Outlook. Now as soon as Firefox comes up and Outlook starts, it freezes. I cannot even get to the Firefox options to reset them.

I had made some changes to Firefox this morning, including changing the start-up page to Outlook. Now as soon as Firefox comes up and Outlook starts, it freezes. I cannot even get to the Firefox options to reset them.

To start Firefox up with a blank page with a blank page instead of your home page, you can type or paste the following in the "Run" dialog, or maybe in the charms bar search box (I haven't tested that):
firefox.exe "about:blank"
I'm not sure why Outlook.com -- which should redirect to the Live Mail login page if your previous session cookies have expired -- would freeze Firefox.

• I bought a LG slim portable dvd writer. I have gotten it connected, and it seems to have downloaded the drivers but then it turns off and I cannot even get the driver CD to eject because it turns off completely.

I bought an LG Slim Portable DVD writer. I connected it to my MacBook Air and the drivers seemed to download. There is an icon that says SuperMulti on my desktop. The portable drive comes on when I double click on the icon, and I hear the drive running. It turns off about 5 seconds later and I cannot even get the driver disc out because the drive is off (no green light).
I am not savvy. What do I do? It says it is compatible with Mac, but then in another place in the directions it states Windows is needed. Please help an old feeble woman!

You need to contact the DVD writer manufacture/vendor customer support and/or read its user manual. LG is not an Apple product.

• Multiple apps only working in Safe Mode since 10.9.1 update

Hey guys!
I recently updated to 10.9.1 and at first, everything seemed find, but slowly I discovered that some apps crash the moment they are launched.
The list of crashing apps includes (but is not limited to) CodeKit, GeekTool Helper, AppCleaner, ControllerMate and Bartender.
What makes things odd, AppCleaner I managed to get working by removing it, then snagging a new copy. ControllerMate and Bartender both only crashed once or trice, thus work almost all the time.
CodeKit and GeekTool however crash every single time. I once got CodeKit to work again for a single evening by getting rid of all its files and using a new copy, but the next day it was back to instantly crashing. Deleting all its files never ever worked again since.
The symptom of the crash is always the same: There is no error message; instead the app’s window freezes, and the mouse on hover gives me the spinning wheel of death. Activity Monitor shows the crashed app is using about 100.2% CPU power and the only way to get rid of it is to force-close it.
Not all the crashes are so kind as to provide me a crash log, but every now and then one does, and this is what I got in all of them:
Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x00007f8332c00000
VM Regions Near 0x7f8332c00000:
MALLOC_TINY 00007f8332800000-00007f8332c00000 [ 4096K] rw-/rwx SM=PRV
-->
MALLOC_SMALL 00007f8333000000-00007f8335000000 [ 32.0M] rw-/rwx SM=PRV
What I tried so far:
— Uninstall/remove all related files of the applications in question
>> For AppCleaner this worked (only crashed a single time since).
>> For CodeKit this worked only a single time, but the next day crashes returned, and this method never helped ever again.
— Logging into a Guest account.
>> CodeKit and GeekTool seemed to work at first, back then crashed the same way.
— Safe boot!
>> Here all programs appear to work fine. I messed around for a few minutes but could not get them to crash.
So according to the internet, I assume this may be caused by an obsolete kext that is not 10.9.1 compatible or a third-party app that does not get loaded when in safe mode.
Can anyone give me any advice on how I can narrow down the cause of this mess or even how to solve it?

thanks a bunch man!
just repairing disk permissions didnt fix it (already tried that before).
the re-installing idea i read on the forum before where people had similar problems after an 10.8.6 update, but they had different exceptions being thrown and safe mode I believe didnt work for them either.
but upon your suggestion, I gave it a shot either way. I dont have a recovery hd, but I got around that by creating an install usb with 10.9.1, booted into that one and reinstalled in-place.
and voila! no instant-crashes, no exceptions thrown, no butt-kicking and no table-flipping! I kept things running for a few hours yesterday, and all apps are still working properly today. :3
I find it a bit weird the second installation got things working whereas the full update screwed things up, but oh well, if 10.9.2 comes around and all app-**** breaks loose again, at least I now know how to handle it.
so once again, thanks a whole lot man <3 just saved my butt!

• Monitor only works in safe mode

My monitor only works in safe mode. when restart in normal mode the monitor screen is blank. when I start in safe mode the monitor works fine.

Is there a reason you have not entered the menu as I have suggested and reset the monitor to factory default?
Your old school monitor needs a kick in the pants to remind it that it is plug n' play. That is essentially what the reset will do. It won't hurt anything.
Was the TV you had connected to the PC before using the monitor an HDTV one with 1080p resolution?
In order to reinstall the graphics driver you will need to be logged in as a user with elevated (admin) priveleges. A standard user cannot install drivers or programs. You do not heed to reinstall RAID drivers.
You might need to consider replacing the monitor with a modern LCD display. They are quite inexpensive these days and can evven be found in the second hand market.
If you don't want to do that then you can remove the video card and then connect the monitor VGA cable to the video output port on the rear of the desktop PC. Removing the card will enable the onboard video.

• Upgraded to osx10.8 and only works in safe mode

I just upgraded to osx10.8 and only works in safe mode! What now?

"works in safe mode" meaning you do not get instant kernel panic when you boot up, and instant kernel panics on boot-up were happening before? If this is the case, it may be that one (or more) of your third-party log-in items is incompatible with 10.8.

• ATI 9700 only works in Safe Mode ?

Hi,
I purchased a Celestica ATI 9700 MAC gfx card and it seems only to work in Safe Mode. In normal mode my G4 boots but wont reach the login screen, the screen stays blue and occasionaly it may show the mouse(responds).
I can only think that the card is broke and isnt being stressed by Safe Mode or has some kind of incompatible firmware?
Any tips would be greatly appreciated as i'd love to get the 9700 running in my machine.
Cheers
John

Hi
I could well be wrong but I've always been under the impression the 9700 only works in MDD G4s. I believe they were only available from Apple at the time as a built to order option and the AGP slot in all MDD G4s was modified to provide additional power to the card. I'm not sure whether third party 9700 graphics cards need this though. The 9800 gets round it by having a separate internal power connector, so it can be used in any G4 with an AGP slot.

• Satellite A300-1BRS works in Safe Mode

Hi,
My laptop is:
Toshiba A300-1BRS
Windows 7
I bought it on 2008. The origianal OS is windows vista. Last May 2013, laptop doesn't work so the technician upgrade it to windows 7. I wasn't able to do the Toshiba recovery and I don't have the product key for the windows.
Here's the problem.
Now, it run windows normally ONLY with the battery BUT if I plug the charger it keep on restarting and restarting. I've tried to repair the computer pressing F8 then Repair the Computer but it shuts down.
The unit works in Safe Mode and I don't encounter the problem even if I plug or unplug the charger.
Please HELP...

>Now, it run windows normally ONLY with the battery BUT if I plug the charger it keep on restarting and restarting.
In my opinion its an problem with motherboard.
Fact is that unit should work and run properly using AC adaptor or without connected AC adaptor (only battery). Also the battery could be removed while the AC adaptor is connected.
If this isnt possible, I guess the motherboard is affected. Probably the power supply electronic is faulty.
I guess only a detailed hardware check would provide the exact information about the affected part.
