LG Volt - Boost Mobile - Different Prepaid card?

This is the first cell phone I have ever purchased, I visited a Best Buy store that is over 2 hours away from my town in order to get help in purchasing a phone. I don't know anything about phones, I just knew I needed one for my job and I need to start using it tomorrow morning. I explained to the clerk that this would be my first phone and I told her it needed to be no contract and have GPS, this is all I knew to ask. She pointed at a few phones, said any of these will have what you want and she walked off. I was left bewildered by the phones and what to do. I took a shot in the dark and decided to get the LG Volt Boost Mobile and she handed me a slip of paper that had several proces on it for prepaid cards, again I had no idea what i needed but after a few minutes i got frustrated and chose something called a $40 Re-Boost Card.
Now once I made the long trip back homesomeone mentioned that we on't have "coverage" for boost mobile at all, so my question is, can I run to walmart and buy a verizon prepaid card or something to use with this phone (which I have not yet activated or do I now own an expensive paperweight? What do i do, please help, I need this phone working by tomorrow morning.

It does seem like our associate could have spent more time helping you find a phone that would work out best for you, though if you didn’t know you wouldn’t have coverage from Boost Mobile until you got home, they may not have known that.
If this phone did not work out for you, you should still be able to return it to the store with your receipt per our Holiday Return & Exchange Promise found here.  Regrettably, we are not able to return pre-paid gift cards, such as this Re-Boost card.

    Sorry, but Boost reportedly does not offer unlocking for iPhones, so you're stuck with them unless you can return the iPhone for a refund and cancel the service, or can sell the iPhone to someone who could use it with Boost.

    Just posted this to my blog and wanted to share a text version here. Check it out if you're looking to tether your tablet to your cell phone. I tethered my Thrive to my Boost Mobile LG Marquee.

    Want to tether your tablet to your cell phone, but Ad-Hoc got you down?  How about trying this nifty little tweak that got me up in running in a jiffy!!
    I recently got a new LG Marquee Prepaid Phone with Boost Mobile @Amazon and I really love it.  Only problem is, I was spoiled with my last phone because it was rooted to support Infrastructure tethering and I had no idea how difficult and unusual that was.  I've since done some research with my new Boost Mobile LG Marquee, and after a little trial and error (and some lucky Google searches) I have successfully tethered my LG Marquee to my Toshiba Thrive tablet!!!
    Here's what I did:
    Mandatory Disclaimer - The following information is for informational purposes only.  Proceed at your own risk!!!  Rooting will void your warranty and could "brick" your phone if you do something wrong!!  So if you damage your phone, or any of your tech, that's on you.
    NOTE: If you don't have an LG Marquee, just search "your phone model" + "root" and you should find plenty of information specific to your phone.  There's always people wanting to do the same thing you are, so it's just a matter of finding the information that's already out there.  Once your phone is rooted, come back here and start on Step 2.
    Step 1 -- Root your LG Marquee (You do NOT need to root your Tablet)
    The following information was taken from LG Cell Phones Blog and are for the LG Esteem, which is a generic root mod.  
    > Enable USB Debugging on your LG Marquee: Go to Settings > Applications > Development > Enable Debugging and check the box.
    > Download and install the LG USB drivers at:  LG Cell Phones Blog You want the file "LGUnitedMobileDriver_S4981MAN32AP22_ML_WHQL_Ver_3. 2.1_2.exe"
    > After installing the USB drivers connect your phone to a PC.  On the phone, pull down the notification bar at the top of the phone's screen and click on USB Connected.  Set the phone to Internet Connection mode (CHARGE ONLY not Mass Storage).
    > Download "LG_Esteem_Root.zip"  at:  LG Cell Phones Blog.  Unzip the file and double-click on the run.bat file.
    Note: Kaspersky Internet Security will flag this file as a Trojan: "Exploit.Linux.Lotoor.ag"  I don't believe this file is a Trojan, per se.  I believe it's required during the root process.  When I let Kaspersky eliminate the file, my phone wouldn't root.  So I decided to run the root program on a secondary computer, just in case.  I disabled Kaspersky temporarily on that computer, and ran the root zip and my phone rooted without a hitch.  I later scanned my phone with Webroot Security and AVG, and neither found any viruses on my phone, so I believe the process is safe.  Technically, rooting your phone probably does involve a Trojan hack, hence why Kaspersky flags that file.  However, I must reiterate to proceed at your own risk.
    Just in Case -- How to Unroot Sprint LG Marquee:
    Use root explorer and delete superuser.apk from the /system/app folder. Go to the Android market and download and install super user. Use root explorer again and delete su from /system/bin. Go to the market and uninstall super user.  Do a factory reset & you will be back to square one.
    Step 2 -- Verify that you have properly rooted your phone with this nifty free app: Root Checker Basic
    If you did everything right, you should get a message that says "Congratulations, this device has root access."  If you fail to get that message, go back to Step 1. 
    Step 3 -- Download the Android WiFi Tether for root users app
    Currently, the only version of Android WiFi Tether that worked for me was 3.1-beta7.  The newest version doesn't work properly with tablets, so be sure to get 3.1-beta7.  Here's a link and QR code for easy access: WiFi Tether 3.1-beta7 apk
    Step 4 -- Configure WiFi Tether app:
    I've tried many settings, but these are the only ones that have worked.  Start the app and grant Super User Permissions.  Then Click Menu to get into the app's setting.  Inside the Settings, do the following:
    > Change Device Profile to: Samsung Galaxy S
    > Change Setup Method to: Netd (Master)
    > Enable WiFi Encryption: Check box to Enable
    > Change Pass Phrase to: any 13 digit password of your choice.
    > Change SSID to: any name of your choice.
    > Change Channel to: 4 (2427mhz)
    > Disable Update Check: Check box to Disable.
    > Click your phone's Back Arrow to Exit back to the app's Main Screen
    > Touch the WiFi button onscreen to start tethering.
    > Grant Super User Permissions
    Note: If you get Error Code 67, Click Dismiss.  If you update, I don't know what will happen; my guess is it will disable the ability to tether.  But if I click Dismiss, my tethering is Enabled, and works perfectly.
    Step 5 -- Grab Your Tablet & Start Tethering
    > Go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Check the box to Enable WiFi > Click WiFi Settings > Under WiFi Networks, find the SSID for your tethering app that you entered in Step 4 above. > Click on the SSID of your tethering app > Enter the 13 digit Pass Phrase you created in Step 4 above and Click Connect.
    That's it!  Congratulations -- your tablet should now be tethered to your cell phone!
    Now that you're tethered to your cell phone, be smart, and DON'T download a ton of gigabytes.  Just be smart about it, and you should be fine.  Remember, tethering to your cell phone probably goes against the terms of service with your cell phone carrier, so DON'T abuse the privilege.
    Now that you're the envy of all your friends, why not test your data speeds: SpeedTest App - FreeMy data speed test results with my Toshiba Thrive tablet tethered to my LG Marquee:
    Download:  855kbps   Upload:  302kbps
    That's pretty great for a 3g no-contract cell phone with unlimited data.

    1. Yes, you can go right now and use a GSM SIM card in your Verizon iPhone 5.  Note that you will have a different phone number when you do this.
    You are not using a SIM card for CDMA in the US.  The SIM card in the device is used for LTE in the US.
    CDMA and GSM are different types of cellular technology.
    2. If you are still under contract, then you would need to be the ETF (Early Termination Fee) for your account.  Then you would simply need to get whatever SIM card you desire for service in China.

    No. Boost Mobile is a CDMA carrier. You will need to buy a phone from Boost Mobile.

  • TS1702 Reseting a banking app:  I am having difficulty reseting my banking app to accept a different bank card number.  The bank suggested I delete and reinstall the app but this has not been successful. Any suggestions?

    Windows 7 is not recognizing my Dell Wireless 5620 EVDO HSPA Mobile Broadband Mini Card (Qualcomm Gobi 2000).  I can't even uninstall the driver, it says that I don't have "sufficient permission" to stop device or something to that effect
    (though I'm an administrator).  I also can't re-install the same or different driver.  I might have installed the wrong driver, though this is supposed to be the correct one according to Dell after typing in my service tag.  I went to the FTP
    to get one specifically for "Verizon Wireless", but I can't uninstall the prior driver.
    How can I fix these issues?  Thanks.

    Have you tried safe mode mentioned in the first reply? What is the status of the driver in device manager? For "Verizon Wireless", have you installed any verizon software or related verizon device? Uninstall this kind software, then uninstll driver again
    as a test.

    I never had a iPhone, but I have been researching that exact question.  It seems that Verizon iPhone 5's automatically come sim unlocked.  Which is not a full unlock where you are able to delete certain programs you were not able to delete when you first bought the phone.  A sim unlock will allow you to use other sim cards for other companies, but you will not get LTE data. According to Verizon spokeswoman Brenda Raney: "she says there's no plans to lock Apple's handset at a later point. In other words, you should be free to use a Verizon-locked iPhone 5 on any compatible GSM and HSPA+ networks for as long as you'd like, including with AT&T and Canadian carriers. Of course, this still brings the caveats of having to both buy a Verizon model, either at full price or with a contract attached, and track down a nano-SIM for the carrier of choice. It could nonetheless settle the question of what carrier to pick if you regularly need a passport when you travel.  I believe this article will tell you all you need to know.  if not, you can go to verizon if the phone is locked, and have it sim-unlocked, as long as you have a account with them in good standing.

    I signed up for Xfinity services a few months ago and qualified for the $150 Visa prepaid card.   It's been over three months and I haven't received my Visa cards.  When I check the status on www.xfinityrewardcenter.com/status it says "No Record Found."  When I call Comcast Customer Service they keep transferring me to different departments and I either get the run around or my call gets disconnected (i.e. customer service hangs up on me).  Please offer better customer service and honor your promotions in a timely manner. We shouldn't have to chase you down for promotions that were offered to us when we signed up for services, and it shouldn't be this difficult to get someone from Comcast to help resolve these issues.

    That is OK. To activate iPhone you need a SIM Card from the Carrier the iPhone is locked to. It takes just moments for iTunes to activate the iPhone, once activated you can put the SIM Card back into the 4S when you like.

  • Desktop manager for Boost Mobile 8530 smartphone...help?

    I have the BB 8530 from Boost Mobile but the desktop manager will not detect the device when connected to USB port. I am running Vista Home Prem (64-bit). I have installed Desktop Manager v5.0.0 to no success. Vista does not seem to recognize the device at all or at least not getting anykind of notification that I plugged it in. Do I need to install device drivers for the BB?? I thought DM would have them included?? I am trying to change the language on the device to spanish from english and was told it had to be done through Desktop manager.

    Hi Folks! I ve been using paypal prepaid card for a month. After my first month I had this questions and hoping to find answers here. On paypal you can track seperate accounts for different currencies. I wonder If I can deposit different currencies in the prepaid card too. You know when I want to pay a seller located in UK paypal converts USD to GBP but they do this with a huge conversion rate. In my last payment for 1160 dollar they took 60 dollars for conversion... I want to deposit GBP in my prepaid card so I can pay GBP directly without losing money. Is this possible? Since when I want to see the balance they only show USD is this because I only deposited USD in the paypal prepaid card? My second question: paypal has taken 3 USD from account to verify it. Later they credited my paypal account. Not my bank account. How Can I transfer this amount to my prepaid card or bank card. I know they charge comission for transferring money to bank accounts. And I saw that I cant choose my prepaid card as the transfer destination. Is there a way to credit that 3 USD to my prepaid card If not what do you recommend. Thanks

    Great questions! With the PayPal PrePaid card you would only be able to transfer funds using a USD balance.
    As for transferring funds from your PayPal account to your PrePaid card, you would first need to add the routing number and account number for the card to your PayPal account as a bank. You can learn more here!

    Is the store that you bought the card from nearby so that you can try going back and asking if they can activate the card properly ? If it's not, or if they can't/won't activate, then you will need to do as the message says and contact iTunes Support (these are user-to-user forums) : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then iTunes Cards And Codes (you will probably need to give them images of the front and back of the card, and possibly its receipt)

  • How to use two different network cards on RT?

    Hi everyone... I'm currently working on a project where I have to deal with the issue mentioned in the thread's topic: I have a PC with RT LabVIEW that has to be able to establish network connections using two different network cards. One will be used to connect via TCP/IP with a host computer that will show the data transmitted through shared variables; the other will communicate with another PC through Modbus protocol. The key is that each communication is done through a separate network card.
    So far I haven't been able to figure out how to configure both things to happen. Does anyone know how to do this? Any tips will help.
    For the RT communication I'm using a standard RT project, with the RT PC being given one of the IPs, and for the Modbus part, I created an I/O server with a master and a slave. Separately everything works fine, but when I get them together it simply won't work.

    Sorry it took me so long to answer, I've been busy lately....I've found a solution to the problem I mentioned, and just in case anyone has similar problems in the future, I'll shortly describe what happened.
    As Caseyw suggested, it was necessary to enable both network cards through the Measurement and Automation Explorer. The cause of the connections malfunction was actually that I wasn't using the "right" protocol for the Modbus communication, which ran on the secondary adapter. The solution was to use the URL protocol with the correct path on the field, addressing the right IP address. To avoid making this post a mixture of topics, I won't elaborate futher, but I got the gist of it, so if anyone is having similar problems whether it is working with several network cards or with Modbus communication protocols, feel free to contact me, I'll be glad to help.
