LG19LS4D + Mac Mini = Blank screen

I have a mac mini it is a 2007 model. When i hook the mac up to my 19" LG tv (LG 19LS4D) The no signal message on the tv dissapears but nothing actually appears on screen it just stays black. On boot up i have tried using option-command pr to reset the PRAM but nothing happens.
I am using the dvi-vga adapter to hook up to tv.
any ideas how to fix.

The adaptor is currently working with my 17" monitor (unknown make) 1280*1024 pixels.
I may try ur suggestion about using dvi to hdmi when i can get my hands on a cable/adaptor.
Was also wondering if my mac mini could power this display:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-22-inch-Widescreen-Monitor-Response/dp/tech-data /B0016CIN2S/ref=deasmtd
i am unsure as to the maximum amount of pixels my mac can support.

  • 2012 Mac Mini blank screen on wake from sleep in Mavericks

I just upgraded from Mt Lion to Mavericks and now my Mac Mini does not awake properly from sleep when I press a key on the keyboard.  It stays dark but I can type in my password even when I can't see the input space and then hit the return and it then the screen functions normally.  I have reset my SMC, zapped PRAM, ran Disk Utilities and DiskWarrior so I think I am covered on these.  I have a Asus monitor connected by HDMI.  Not sure what else to try.  I see the problem surfaces occasionally for other versions of OS X and for a variety of Macs.  Thanks.  Doug

Okay so here is more info as I have been experimenting with this.
Actually my second post is incorrect.  It does stay blank if I put it to sleep but here are the observations:
My Asus 247 monitor upon sleep will go blank and then after a few seconds will show a window saying no HDMI input detected then be blank.  The screen light changes from blue to amber at this point.
Once it is amber and I try to wake the Mac Mini, the light will change back to blue and the monitor displays a message saying HDMI input detected.  Then it stays blank but I can see my cursor in the corner and it displays on the blank screen.  I can move it around normally.
If at this point I turn off the monitor and turn it back on, the screen comes back to normal and I can type in my password and go from there.
In another case if the screen is blank, I can type my password in and then when I hit enter, it is functioning correctly.
I did not have this problem at all in Mt. Lion and nothing else has changed.
Any help/insights would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

  • Mac Mini blank white screen. Did Cmd+R reprograms but doesn't leave the white screen!!

Mac Mini blank white screen. Did Cmd+R  but doesn't leave the white screen! I tried Cmd+Option+R, this allows reprogramming but after 34 or so minutes it remains in the white screen! Any ideas?

Unfortunately, the white screen will not go away! Therefore, I do not have the option to the Disk Utility!! I wish I could! I would have already erased the disk and reinstalled the OS. Side note here is that an Apple Fan told me that she and her husband had a similar scenario with a new iMac!! Turned out (after 3 attempts by Apple Techs to fix) to have to replace it! They related to me that there was an issue with the connections between the Logic Board and the Hard Drive! The hard drive got burnt out and so did the Logic board on different occasions. I have been a PC user for years until I got tired of all the maintenance and wanted to try Mac. So many thrilled fans claiming they never get issues as often as a PC. Well, here I am six weeks after buying the Mac Mini having issues...I guess a machine is a machine, is a machine! I was thrilled with the Lion OS and all the interaction I was having with it! I truly thought that this was a highly superior computer. I expected quality control to have equally a superiority that one would expect from an Apple product. It could be that this unit is a lemon! It happens! Because I also have iPad and iPhone that have given me the best performance ever!! So I hope that I will someday see the same from this Mac Mini that is just over 40 days old!
If you know another way to get thru the white screen to get to the Disk Utility...I would love to try it. In any case, I am waiting for a call back to confirm an appointment date and time to visit a Mac store for repair.

after plugging my ipod into my mac mini, my screen split into 2 duplicate screens, one on top of the other. How do i make that go away?

I am not sure about everything, but there is something that may fix some of your problems. Go to System Preferences, and choose the "Universal Access" preference pane. In Universal Access, turn off VoiceOver, Zoom (seeing tab), Sticky Keys, Slow Keys (Keyboard tab), and Mouse Keys (Mouse tab). Make sure the "Enable access for assistive devices" checkbox, which is at the bottom of the preference pane. From there, look at other options and see if they are things you want turned off, or changed from how they are set. If you don't know what different options do, click on the help icon at the bottom left corner of the window. And if you are still baffled, ask here and someone will tell you what it does.
If you use any of the universal access options or think they could be useful, feel free to leave them on.
Also, go to the Keyboard and Mouse preference pane, choose the Keyboard Shortcuts tab, and make sure there are no strange keyboard shortcuts set that may interfere with the keys you are having issues with.
Did you install any new software before this started happening, and if so, how many days before it started happening?

  • Mid-2010 Mac Mini -  black screen after installing boot camp drivers

I successfully installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 on my new Mac Mini. The display worked without issue in XP at this point.
After doing this, I proceeded to install the boot camp drivers. They installed and automatically rebooted the machine.
After reboot, Windows XP no longer has a functioning display. The display is a black screen and eventually the monitor shuts off.
    Things I've tried:
    - Reset PRAM
    - Reset SMC
    - Tried both Mini DisplayPort and HDMI connections to connect to the HDMI port on the monitor
    - Booting into Safe Mode. Holding down F8 successfully brought up the Safe Mode options, but again the display was blank after choosing the Safe Mode option and attempting to load Windows.
    Message was edited by: mullingitover

Update: Other stuff I've now tried--
    - Swapping out RAM modules. I've tried it with the stock 2GB sticks in place, also with a single 4GB stick. Same result.
    Other interesting/troubling problems:
    - Unable to boot into Safe Mode with command line. The text-only interface with safe mode options that is reached by pressing F8 during windows startup is displayed. However, no matter which option I choose, the result is a dead display.
    - Unable to boot with Windows XP install CD (?!). After choosing the CD at the boot selection screen, the display blanks and never wakes up.

  • New 2012 Mac mini having screen resolution problem when I connect to either 27" LG or 22" Hannspree monitor. Tried mini display port to VGA/HDMI and HDMI to DVI-D cables... all same isse

New 2012 Mac mini having issues in connecting to third party Monitors. Connected my mac mini to a 27" LG monitor. Text looks blurred. Tried connecting to the monitor using 3 options. 1) mini port to HDMI, then HDMI cable to LG monitor. 2) Mini port to VGA, then VGA cable to monitor 3) HDMI port on mini mac to DVI-D cable then DVI to DVI cable... In all cases text is not clear. Anyone has similar issues with latest mini mac. The monitor works fine when I connect to a windows 7 Samsung laptop. Any input is highly appreciated. Thanks in Advance

Why do you use always 2 cables? There's a lot that can go wrong.
    1.) Hardware:
    - Use only one cable, best an HDMI->HDMI cable. It doesn't need to be an expensive one, they've proven to be no worse than those "esoteric", expensive ones.
    - Set the monitor to the HDMI input.
    - The modes you are listing are only "picture modes" changing color/brightness/contrast settings, not resolution or the likes, so pick the one you like best later, or enter your own settings under Custom.
    2.) OS X:
    - Usually the Mac detects the screen itself and chooses the best settings, so by default you need to do nothing than make a proper hardware connection to get a decent image.
    - However, there have been issues with new Mac Minis and particularly their HDMI ports. But reportedly they have been fixed with a software update. So, launch the App Store and check under Updates if there is one for you to install. If so, do it; otherwise you should be good to go.
    - If you require, go to System Preferences -> Displays. In the Dispaly tab, by default, "Best for display" should be selected, and that is typically true. If you want, select "Scaled" and 1920x1080, plus a frequency from the list (where higher is usually better, but just pick the one that works best for you). If you can't see a change to the better, you best go back to "Best for display".
    - If you are not happy with the colors on your screen, you'll find eventually more than one choice in the Color tab, though your particular screen should be in the list and its Display Profile should get you the best result. (Double-check picture modes on your display: if you're far off there, you won't make it much better with the Mac's settings).

  • Mac Mini 2011 screen blacks out during heavy screen activity

I have a Mac Mini 2011 i5 2.3Ghz with Intel HD video.  It's connected to a 30" LCD 2560x1600 (Dell WFP3008) via mini-DP to DP cable and a 22" LCD 1920x1080 (Samsung LCD TV) via HDMI to HDMI cable.
For the first few weeks I had it connected to the 30" only and it was fine.  Then I hooked up the Samsung as a second display and the problems started.
The problem is that the Dell blacks out briefly, then comes back.  It is not "drawing" the screen black, the signal to the Dell gets disrupted momentarily so the monitor has no signal so it goes black.  Then it resyncs with the signal and the display is back.  This only happens to the Dell, during the disruption, the Samsung image stays put.  I know it is a signal disruption because the Dell shows a displayport icon showing that it has just resynced to that input.
The problem happens more frequently when more things are going on; like if I have a window or multiple windows playing video, then the disruption happens more.  If I disconnect the Samsung, it happens less.  It could even happen if a web browser window taking up a large portion of the 30" screen does a full page update, it will disrupt.  If I am running Adobe Lightroom, it seems to happen more also.
When it happens it seems like messages like this appear in the console, although i can't say they are directly correlated:
6/1/12 8:28:46.000 PM kernel: IOSurface: buffer allocation size is zero
I'm thinking perhaps the mini is running low on memory since the 2560x1600 is pretty high res and then add the 1080p screen and stuff being updated, perhaps it runs out of memory and disrupts the signal while it garbage collects?  Pure speculation.
Has anybody else seen this and have any clues on how to resolve it?  Thanks.

I should clarify that when I say perhaps the mini is running low on memory, I mean low on shared video memory, since the computer has 16GB installed.  I'm not sure how to view or test shared video memory allocation.

  • Mac Mini - Weird screen colours after update - Help!?

I just updated to Mavericks on my Mac Mini and my colours have went really weird.  The reds and oranges are now greens, and the blues are now purples.  I just thought this was the new colour scheme (LOL) then I realised the colours had effected everything.  Panicking abit as the colour is very important for my photography work.
The screen I have plugged in is just a bog standard 21".  I tried the standard calbriation test but it was useless, it ended up extremely bright and still badly coloured, and there was no way I was saving that as a profile - Should I try the 'expert mode' calibiration?
Any advice would be great! Thank you kindly! :-)

  • New Mac Mini -- permanent screen dims after installing Mavericks

Hello -- hope you can help.  We just purchased a Mac Mini and installed Mavericks on it.  It's driving a Panasonic Viera Plasma TV via HDMI, which is its only monitor/display.
As soon as we finished the install and authorized it as a computer for my iTunes account (I did these nealy at the same time so can't be exact at what time the event occurred), the screen dimmed drastically -- from quite bright to very dull.  Has any one experienced this, and have you come up with a solution for it?  Or do you have any ideas?
I have ensured that the radio buttons in Mission Control are off for multiple display options.
Thanks so much.  Look forward to your response.

Some people have experienced problems with monitors attached via HDMI. Most of them are having issues of the windows resizing to an un-responsive window.
For some, the fix was to do a SMC reset. Since you have a Mac Mini, it's pretty easy. Power it down, unplug it for 15 seconds and plug it back in. Wait 5 seconds and turn it on and it should be reset.

Installed a Time Capsule, now I can't access my mac mini server.  I see the files/folders, but cannot screen share with the mini from my macbook pro.  Any help?  Error below when trying to use the "screen share" button in Finder.  Macbook Pro and Mac Mini are using Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
Connection Failed Error: Please make sure that Screen Sharing (in the Sharing section of System Preferences) is enabled on the computer to which you are attempting to connect. Also make sure your network connection is working properly.
Please help, I'm really stuck on this one!

Try removing the TC and see if the problem disappears.
Screen Sharing has a checkered histroy looking back through the posts..

There are many discussions about failing after changes in Lion.. I haven't seen the equivalent ML yet.. the TC may not be root cause, just the initiator of the problem.
It could be the BTMM associated with the TC.

  • Mac Mini Blue Screens

I have a MAC mini (late 2005) purchased Feb of 2006. It over heated and crashed within 7 months - that was September. Apple store put in new hard drive and gave it back with absolutely nothing installed - I couldn't even boot up. I am not computer savvy though I have used computers since I purchased the first of 5 in 1982. MACs have been good as gold until this one. I took the mini it to a MAC repair store and they helped me greatly. I put everything back on it and it has been running perfectly since until now, 6 months later - now I have another problem.
SOMETIMES - within the first 30 - 45 minutes the picture cuts out and goes to blue screen then within seconds returns. SOMETIMES - it does it once and SOMETIMES it does it 6 or 7 times. I truly believe it has to do with humidity or heat or something. The few days it has been at its worst have be very humid in this early spring. But last fall when I got it back from repair there were humid days and I did not notice a thing. This has only been happening in the past 3 weeks - a day here and a day there. After it goes through the first hour there seems not to be a problem. When I am surfing the web or using Adobe graphics programs the fan seems to run very loud and very long.
I have read the posts about fan heat etc. but my current mini does not go to sleep or cut out; it just runs so loud I think its going to fly off its pedestal but then it slows down.
Has anyone else had this problem? What did you do? I will be taking it in for a look see at the repair shop since I have ProCare; but I would like to speak intelligently when finding out the problem - if there is one.
Thanks so much for your input.

MAC Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

As long as you don't have "condensing humidity", humidity by itself should not be an issue -- since, unlike humans, the Mini does not cool itself by evaporation.
Air temperature and ventilation could be issues -- as could processor or hard disk intensive usage.
Given that your mini had a history of over-heating, it would be good to know what tasks you perform on the mini, and how much RAM memory is in it.
If the over-heating is not task related, then we need to look at ambient air temp and ventilation, and also consider whether the mini's heat sink is working properly.
Since you mention Adobe apps, it is possible that you are overworking the CPU and/or Virtual Memory system. Again, it would be good to learn more about how you use the Mini and how much RAM, since too little RAM would cause over-use of the Virtual Memory system (ie your hard drive) which might account for the earlier failure of the HD and the extra heat.
A useful statistic would be to open Utilities > DiskUtility and click on the "System Memory" tab and tell us what is reads for pageins/pageouts in the bottom left of the window. This would be especially useful after you are running your typical tasks.

  • Mac mini blue screen

    Hi,
I'm another one with the blue screen...the other I night was surfing on the web and all of the sudden tinted gray screen appeared with multiple languages advising me that i need to restart the computer, which I did, and all I got since then is startup chime, apple logo w/spinning wheel for maybe 30secs and then it goes to blue screen. I'm using older mac mini 1.42 G4 512mb/80G and panther 10.3 I bought it in Germany, 2yrs ago so- no apple care. I've tried holding C-no go. In safe mode it would go to the blue screen and then the spinning wheel starts to roll and it stays like that for 30mins, then I've lost patience after 2-3 times. When I reboot and hold option button it would show the HD and install disc but wont start neither from disc or HD. I was able do put it in single user mode and I have tried couple of things from apple support site, but didn't work. I did the fsck and it says that everything is OK with the volume. I guess i can pull off the data to my external HD, but I would like to save machine somehow... oh, yeah at one point I did get "restriction" sign but I really cannot remember what was the key combination that I have used....any ideas?

well after a 3-4 days of unsuccessful trying to fix the problem, today finally, I got him back to work. I had to reinstall the OS X. It didn't want to do it from my mac, so I had to connect via firewire to my friends G5, then I put my mini into target disk mode, and then I "remotely" installed OS X onto my mac. yesterday didn't work, because I put tiger on, and did the regular system update, where after that when I restarted my mac it went again to the logo/spinning wheel crap, so i had to take it back to m friend and to do it all over again. I did all the updates, works so far. Right now I am about to put back on all of my files...hopefully it will work, if not, I have hammer right next to me...
