Library access

Had to restore OS because of virus - error message: the file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes. Any way to restore?
Thanks.

See if you have an ITL file in the Previous iTunes Folder that you can use.

  • ITunes Library access via external HDD w/ AirPort Extreme

Ok wizards...  I've read a number of posts, but can't seem to pull together the answer to my question and hoping someone's able to push me in the right direction.
I've got a Windows 7 PC with my iTunes library stored on an external HDD due to it's size.  My PC is often not at home (i travel for work a lot) and would like to have my library available to my family via my Apple TV when i'm not there.  So... I'm contemplating buying an AirPort Extreme and connecting the HDD.  I have read that the HDD must be formatted to FAT32 for it to function w/ the AirPort extreme (seemingly an arduous step, but surmountable) but can't seem to find a clear answer to the question:
Will I be able to access my Library via the Apple TV via this method?  Obviously any tips / tricks would be greatly appreciated and thanks (in advance) for anyone who can help!

No, at least not directly. You would still need an iTunes "server" to stream the iTunes media to the Apple TV. Typically a iTunes server would be a Mac or PC computer running iTunes.

  • IOS Ipod Library Access [ANE]

    Hey Everyone,
Just putting together an extension to get tracks from your iOS library into AIR as Sound objects inorder to access their SampleData. I haven't seen one around that needed what I wanted so I thought I'd share it with you all.
At the moment you can request the whole library information and it will all be returned in a custom Vector of ILMediaItem's, which have all the properties of the tracks in them. You can then use the ILMediaItem.ipodID to request the track from the native iPod Library and it will physically extract the track file from the library, and copy it to wherever you like, and return the URL once it's copied.
Debug development is available too, so you can run the thing on Desktop while you develop.
    Docs are here:
    http://audiobrush.com/developer/ipodlibrary/docs/
    Extension is here:
    http://audiobrush.com/developer/ipodlibrary/IpodLibrary.ane
Let me know if you think there could be some additional features added to it, but it's there for now =).
    Hope you like...
    O.

Hmm, strange, I'm a little lost as I've updated the code on my machine and it's not revisioned at all, so the line number is a little useless to me actually. I've had a look through that method, and I can't see anything that would be null.
In the console do you see:
"Ipod Library: Running in desktop mode, please set Debug Properties before proceeding further."
When you run on a desktop?
Are there MP3 files in the directory that you are pointing to?
I should probably blow the dust of my old laptop and fire up Windows to test this, but I really can't see why it would be different to Mac OS X.
I'm actually in the process of playlists as I type this. So they will be here in the next week or so, it willl be part of the ILFilterType.PLAYLIST when you call the getLibraryOf method. Other features coming up are the ability to switch between, iPod Library, Spotify, Pandora and SoundCloud.
I will keep this thread updated.
As for a full version I'm a little reluctent to give it out a version which lists everything. Maybe once I know what I've created I will have lite and premium versions. If you send us a PM i'll get back to with a full version.
Let me know about my questions and I'll try get this fixed for you.

  • Aperture Library access

I just installed Mountain Lion and now i am unable to open Aperture. Cannot access library, check file permission??  How do I correct this?

How did you launch Aperture? Try to launch Aperture by double-clicking your current Aperture library, to be sure about the library it is trying to open.
How did you install Mountain Lion? With a clean install? Did you create a new user account, so that the ownership of the library may be a problem? And if it was a clean install, how did you migrate your data?

  • Aperture Library accessed once a second, non-stop?

Sat down to my iMac this morning and, within seconds of waking up, I noticed that the hard drive was being accessed once a second, non-stop. After 5-10 minutes, it started getting annoying, so I did some digging in Terminal. It appears a java process is hitting my Aperture library non-stop. Killing the process leads to some quiet, but the system relaunches the process and I'm right back to where I started. Anyone have any idea what's going on? My internet connection is seeing fairly consistent use at about 50 KB/s, which could be related. I do, however, have Photo Library turned off.

Constant entries such as the following when I check file system usage (e.g. sudo fs_usage -w -f "filesys").

There's a little bit of mds activity scattered throughout the log, but not enough to explain the constant accessing. I'm rebuilding the library right now to see if that has any effect. Malware is highly unlikely (I run a pretty tight ship), but I won't rule it out.

  • SAP Library access

Hi - has anyone experienced attempting to access the on-line SAP Library, but when you click on English a new window opens which is blank ?
Is this anything to do with my Internet settings ? I have compared to another PC which access the library ok asnd they are the same.
    Many thanks.

    Hi Peter,
Searching help.sap.com is an art in its own:) I recommend the following:
    1. Open http://help.sap.com/
    2. Click on the link called "Search Documentation" in the upper right-hand corner of your screen. (Icon of a magnifying glass in front of it)
    3. Select the options you need.
Example: The "SAP NetWeaver" radio button, Area: SAP NetWaver, Application: "SAP Netweaver", Release: 2004s, Language: English.
    4. Enter your search keywords.
For me personally this is the most efficient way of searching SAP documentation. Your way is also not impossible but it takes significantly more time and effort. I hope it will work like that.
    Please, award points if helpful:)
    Best regards,
    Snezhina

  • Library access speeds

So, I have 3 Apple TV's on my home network.  Streaming netflix works great, renting movies works great, but accessing my Library has turned unbelievably slow.  I've upgraded my Internet to get up to 20 mpbs.  Is it the download speed, upload speed, or neither that is the most important in getting quick access to files in your Library?  Is there a size of Library that starts to degrade performance?

Check if computer and internal/external drives are going to sleep/spinning down as if they take time to wake you may get that spinning wheel, though if the process times out you may just get an empty content list.
If renting movies (I assume in HD with near instant start?) works fine then i don't think you have much of a LAN issue - AppleTV compatible content in iTunes is unlikely to require much higher bandwidth than watching from the internet - one caveat however is that if all devices are on wireless to stream from computer>router>AppleTV takes more LAN bandwidth than internet > router > AppleTV.
In addition say you had files added to itunes but located on network storage/Time capsule, it's even more complex:
Network storage > router > iTunes on computer > router > AppleTV.
Check wi-fi signal strength on all devices  - the weakest link will pull the better performing elements down.
If it is LAN, then try to ditch wi-fi as it can be very hit and miss, prone to interference etc.
If you can't run ethernet cable and don't have a highly complex electrical mains circuit consider mains powerline network adapters which are a great alternative to wi-fi.
I use them for many of my devices including AppleTV's (edited - formatting buggers up layout once I post!) (Need to design one of those tidy diagrams Winston has!)
Look at items by Devolo/Netgear/Belkin etc.

  • External H.D. and iPhoto library accessing in other programs

I put my iPhoto library onto an external hard drive. When I am in some software program that I want to import a photo it will give me the H.D. option but when I click on the iPhoto library it will not open it. Will the library only open when I am in iPhoto? If so, how do I access my photos or do I have to select some and put them on the desktop before I begin the other software program? Thank you, Janet

    Janet
Yes, the library is only for the use of iPhoto. Other apps are not allowed to surf the Library.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. In 10.5's Mail, you can access the Library directly from the New Message Window
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
If the other application is an Image Editor:
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
    Regards

  • Motion Library Access

Motion Library shows zero Particle Emitters, Replicators, Shapes and Text Styles. However they can be accessed through File Browser via User/Shared/Motion. They are in fact on my hard drive. I have Motion Preferences for Content Library and Templates pointed the hard drive. Motion accesses Behaviors, Filters and Generators through the Library tab. How to access the PE, R, S and TS through Library tab in browser?

Do you by chance have anything in the search field left over from an earlier search? Motion continues to filter by whatever is in there until you clear it out.

  • Library access permissions

OK back to this issue. I have one library in the users/shared area on the internal drive of my iMac. The computer has 2 user accounts (myself and my wife) both of us can access the Aperture library in the shared area usually.... This morning she could get to it and later today she is getting a permissions error again. I can open it just fine. Last time this happened I fixed it by doing a chmod -R 777 on the library and it worked (my ID is the owner of the library). When I look at the permissions now they are still set correctly but all of the sudden she can't open the library. Anyone have a clue?
And in case anyone asks, no Aperture was not still running under my account, so there was only one person in it at a time.

    HELP!!!!
    Steve

    Home sharing......
Itunes on all your devices, then turn on home sharing, and use the same apple id and password on all the devices, only upto 5 pc can be done using this as they need to be authorised to use your apple id.

  • Can Itunes Library access 2 hard drives on one computer?

I have too much music, videos etc to live on one hard drive and am installing a 2nd hard drive on my computer. Can itunes library get files from different locations on my computer? Ex. different hard drive paths?
    Thanks

Mort already answered you, but I thought I would throw in, if you are going to a larger drive, you might consider consolidating/moving everything to the one larger drive if you can simply because it makes backing up or moving your library again much easier if everything is in the one folder.

  • Photos library accessed by multiple accounts on the same Mac.

I have two different log on accounts for my wife and I on our Mac.  Prior to converting my library to Photos, we were able to open the same iPhoto/Aperture library.  Now since converting to Photos, she cannot open the library.  I do have the library set to store in iCloud, but I have it configured to download originals to this Mac.  We get the following error:
The library is stored on a external drive.
    Thanks

Try logging out the main user, then switching/logging in as another user. Then open Photos and point to the library you want to share.
This worked for me. For whatever reason, you can leave the secondary user logged in, and the main user can still open Photos, but not visa-versa. I don't remember that being the case with iPhoto.
