Library - All Photographs - Count

Under Library all photographs to the left is a count. In one library it shows 3629/3630. I would guess that I have a cataloged file that is missing. Is this correct? If so, how would I find which file is disconnected?

Even if you don't remember doing a stack, if you had two images selected and by chance did Cmd/Ctl-G ( for group) Stack they would get stacked, if in the same folder.

Lightroom 3.2 crashes when performing a library text filter on all photographs

I have LR 3.2 running on Windows XP on a Intel Core 2 E8500 with 4 GB ram. I run one catalog that contains a little more than 51,000 photographs (mostly RAW images). Each time I select ALL PHOTOGRAPHS (in my catalog drop-down on the left), go into the Library Filter, choose TEXT, and type in a keyword to do a search to narrow my photographs down, LR spontaneously crashes...all I get is a Microsoft message asking me if I want to send Microsoft a report and when I click "no", LR just closes. Sometimes when I re-open LR and perform the same task immediately, all goes well. But lately it happens again and again even after I restart LR over and over. This is simply unacceptable as I am constantly needing to search through my entire catalog to find photos with certain keywords depending on the project I am working on. Is my catalog too big? I last optimized my catalog on 10/8/2010. This seems like a bug to me.

With All Photographs selected it shows "9568 of 9615 photos". Why the difference?

I'm certain that last week these counts tallied (or only one count shown) but now in LR 5.3 Library with All Photographs selected it shows "9568 of 9615 photos". Why the difference?
I've checked "Missing Photographs" and there are none, Library filter is None, and Filters Off. Somehow I'm missing 47 photos.

Login to iCloud.com, hit the "Reset Photo Stream" button. This will delete all photos stored in iCloud, but not any photos pushed to any devices. Then, on your phone, Settings>iCloud>Photo Stream>Off. This will delete all photos in your Photo Stream album, on your phone. This will leave them on your Mac as long as you don't turn Photo Stream off on your Mac. If you first import them to your iPhoto library, you can then turn Photo Stream off on your Mac & they will remain in your iPhoto library.

'All Photographs' contains more photos than in folders

All photographs collection contains more photos than in folders - (Using LR 4) There are about 6k more photos that are in my catalog (All Photographs) than what is showing up in my folders below. All of my photos are located on an external hard drive. I have them organized by year. So for example, if in LR I click on 'All Photographs' in the library module, I can see hundreds of photos from 2009. I can also see all these photos on my external hard drive under the 2009 folder. However , these photos do not show up under the folders in LR. I've tried 'synchronizing' my folder in LR, but it thinks all of the photos are duplicates, since they are indeed already in the catalog (just not the folder)

To tell you the truth, this kind of thing is nearly impossible to diagnose across the internet, so I have only a few pieces of advice on how to fix this.
If an entire folder has been copied to the internal drive, and that's where you did the editing, but you'd like to use the copies on the external drive, then right-click on the Folder name and select Update Folder Location and point to the corresponding folder on the external drive.
The other piece of advice I have is kind of trivial ... don't create more duplicates! don't put photos on your internal drive! If you yourself are more organized, then Lightroom will reflect that!

Photos won't display in Parent folders or All Photographs

After upgrading to LR4 from LR3 when I go to the library and click on "All photographs" none of my 86000 photos show up.
The same thing happens in folders module....for example:
1. My photos are in folders titled 20120306
20120201
2. Those folders are siored in a single "parent" folder called 2012
3. All the "parent" year folders are in a folder called MAIN
When I click on main it does not display any photos but it tells me how many photos are in the folder
When I click on 2012 it does not display any photos but it tells me how many photos are in the folder
When I click on 20120306 it then dislays the photos.
I am not sure why clicking on 2012 it would not show me ALL of the photos taken in 2012, that is what LR3 did......
PLEASE help as I am very puzzled by this!

I'm running 3.3ghz i7 2700k, 16gb of ram. 8900 images on internal HDD, ~37k images on external drive. By attempting to export first, I'm hoping to bypass the preview issue as it should use the previews that are there already, there is no option to render previews on import from catalog that I am aware of. My export of the 8900 images just went to 85% and crashed lightroom. I have shut down machine, rebooted, optimized the catalog and attempting export again.
Edit: So, I had to reduce my export to ~5100 images to get it to complete. When it finished, it presented an error window indicating it could not find/did not have previews for all the images. Seems kind of odd to me as I can see them all. I'm exporting another image file of ~3k images next. Then I will try and import them.
It's gonna be real ugly if I have to regenerate 45k previews again.
Edit again: Ok, this is not going to work. The Export Catalog actually copies everything from the current drive to the backup location, the catalog and the images etc. Upon import, the files are not imported from their locations, but rather the images just backed up in the export are what is imported.
I'm going to move all my images to one primary drive. Try regenerating all previews and see if I can import from the LR3 catalog again and get it to complete. What a nightmare this is.

LR4 "All Photographs" does not show any images.

This week I upgraded from LR3 to LR4 on my Mac. Unfortunately, since doing so, "All Photographs" has stopped showing any images even though it indicates that there are 26,000 images in the library. Also, even though I have activated "Show photos in subfolders" that does not seem to work either. What is the problem please?

Photos missing from Catalog All Photographs

Currently I show 8044 under Catalog - All Photographs in the library module grid view, but when I click on All Photographs I see at the bottom of the library module"All Photographs / 8026 of 8044 photos" 18 less than what the catalog of All Photographs shows. I have looked at the filter bar at the top and none is selected with filters off selected and also at the bottom in the filmstrip it shows filters off. I have tried the library menu pulldown "Find missing Photos" but it doesn't find any. I do a test integrity and optimize catalog along with a backup on exit, I have also tried looking in grid view for thumbnails with question marks but nothing seems to reveal the 18 photos. Any ideas anyone?

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.

3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Damaged preference files can cause a varitety of problems which you wouldn't think it could. Deleting and regenerating the pref file is one of the basic fixes to try.

All photographs problem! help

My library contains around 4000 images mostly RAW format. Some of them are placed on external drive and some of them are always with me on laptop. Today I encountered new problem I started LR, my external drive is disconnected and images from external drive are selected in folder sub panel with red color, as should be. Problem is when I select in Library sub panel All photographs (3918) images it won't show any image. If I try with Previous Import (1808) images it works (previous import contains missing images from external drive). In folder sub menu if I select every folder individually it shows images (previews).
What happened with All photographs?

I have a similar problem with my images if I try to bring up LR before accessing the drive associated with my network file server where my images are after I reboot. Windows reconnects the drive association ok - but if I don't open that drive using Explorer then I get the same kind of thing in LR as you do.
I think that behavior is normal for LR when it cannot access the drive where the images are physically stored. To correct it - just make sure you have reconnected and accessed that external resource prior to starting LR up. LR may also "recover" if you do that after having brought it up and noticing that you have this problem. I personally have not tried that route - I usually just shut LR down, access the images manually through Explorer, and then restart LR and all is well.

Library "All Photogrpahs" Missing Files

Hi everyone,
When I select the "All Photographs" option in the Library I get the message that no photos match the filter. Strange because it indicates over 300 photos.
In addition, when I try to filter on my Keywords I get the same message.
Any thoughts?

Okay, I have turned off the Filters and all of my photos are showing in All Photographs. However, I was trying to filter all of my 5 star photos... with thr filters turned off, it doesn't work.
Am I missing another setting somewhere?

In Safari, open your Preferences, go to Advanced and check the "Show Develop menu in the menu bar"
This will add a new menu at the top.
Go to the Develop menu, User Agent and select a different choice which allows Safari to spoof different browsers, OSs and devices.
Selecting Safari for iPad usually works.
However, the choice is page specific. it doesn't stick if you go to another page, you need to repeat the procedure again.
