Library cannot be upgraded message

Have several different Aperture libraries. I cannot open one of them. Get warning message "The library in "Aperture Library_orig.aplibrary" cannot be upgraded." There are 100+ GB of pictures I can't access. Can anyone help me?

What is your Aperture version? What Aperture version did you use to create the libraries? You can see the version of the libraries, when you select a version in the Finder, like this:
Where are the libraries located? Is there enough disk space on the volume?
And are there any more diagnostic messages in the Console window when you try to upgrade? A crash log?
Sorry for sending only questions instead of answers, but we need to know more, before we can help.

  • HT3945 Aperture 2 library "cannot be upgraded" to work with Aperture 3; why not?

Just bought and installed Aperture 3,latest version. Before loading new program, I unplugged external hard drive where my Aperture library is stored. Just wanted to make sure nothing happened to the content, in excess of 60,000 images. After booting new Aperture, tried to open a smaller library resident on compeuter. Followed instructions on initial window to upgrade library, but got the message, library "cannot be upgraded". Getting irritated because I need to complete some work in progress on an existing project. I know, I should have done that before upgrading Aperture, but I had no idea that I would run into this.  Any help?

Do you still have access to the old version of Aperture 2?
If so you should run that and do a library repair before trying to upgrade to 3.

  • How do i overcome "itunes library cannot be saved" message and problems?

    Hi fellow itunes users
This is the second time i've had this problem in the past few months. I was working on my itunes for hours getting playlists in order, ripping songs from CDs, etc and all was going well. I burned a whole load of CDs with the new playlists and songs so no major loss other than time if I wanted the CDs replicated.
I had the message come up, "itunes library cannot be saved" when i was closing the program down which worried me as I had no option but to accept this. I switch the machine on the following day and boot up itunes to find all the songs I saved and playlists made disappeared. Clearly they were not saved but and there is no way to get them back as i did not do a time machine back up at that moment but what bothers me is if it happens again.
Can anyone suggest a way to prevent this from happening again?
Your reply and assistance will be greatly appreciated!!
    Many Thanks

You can verify your directory by running Disk Utility > first aid verify.

  • Itunes error message "itunes library cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes"

I have an iBook G4 with OS 10.4.11 (Tiger operating system).  I keep getting an error message in Itunes:  "Itunes library cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes".  What do I do?   I also cannot access the Itunes store.  This is an older laptop (2006) which still works great except for this.    Please help.

I know this is an old thread, but the information in it solved my current problem (Windows Vista, upgraded to iTunes 11.2 and resulted in this same .itl error message).
So, I'm here to thank turingtest2 for his excellent instructions to fix my problem. One of tt2's many detailed instructional tips). THANK YOU TURINGTEST2!
PS I'm generally reluctant to "mess with files and such, preferring to use Windows Restore, because it just doesn't seem right to me that end users of Apple devices should have to get into the guts of files and such. Sadly, I have finally just accepted that iOS updates never work right and I either have to deal with work-around fixes or never update. Eventually we do need to update or there will be other problems. All I can say is, I'm sure glad there are folks like turingtest2 here who spend so much time helping us.

  • I keep getting the message @itunes library cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of Itunes - I had to reset my computer due to a printer failure to an earlier version...

I keep getting the message'Itunes library cannot be read because it was started by a later version' - I had to recently reset my computer to an earlier version as I had a printer problem

Then you either need to upgrade iTunes again, or fish out the older version of your library from the Previous iTunes Libraries folder (inside <Profile's Music>\iTunes) that corresponds to the older version of iTunes you are now using. You can rename the current .itl file as say iTunes Library (10.5).itl and then rename the copied file as iTunes Library.itl.

Just to be sure, you are opening really iPhoto 9.6, launch iPhoto by double-clicking the iPhoto icon in your applications folder. Hello,
    Did you reinstall lately?
My 10.4.11 Drive seemes to have iTunes 7.6.2 on it, have you tried Software update to see if iTunes is listed?
Another 10.4.11 drive has iTunes 6.05 on it... I hate upgrading iTunes, seems worse at every upgrade.
The 10.5.8 drive I'm booted from now has iTunes 8.02 on it.

  • HT3529 i cannot get text message via voice on my ford touch console after uploading the latest ios7 upgrade.

i cannot get text message via voice on my ford touch console after uploading the latest ios7 upgrade. Is this an issue with the upgrade or is there a setting on the phone that needs to be fixed?

I don't know how you received an upgrade for iTunes.  You make it sound like it was sent to you.  At most your computer will tell you of a new version and you tell it to download it and install it.  However, a computer will not do this for a version which is incompatible.  iTunes 10.7 came out a few weeks ago but your computer would not notify you and even if it did, 10.7 would refuse to install on your computer.  So this part isn't making a lot of sense.
Two ways to get the 'newer version' message.  One is to open your library on a computer running a newer version, and then try to open it with an older version.  Usually happens when the library is on an external and used with multiple computers.  The second way is if you have multiple versions of itunes installed on your computer.
The newest (and likely the last) iTunes for OSX 10.5.8 is iTunes 10.6.3 which has been out for quite a while.

    Not really likely, is it?
First of all, look on the iPod to see if the song is actually on there. (The last Sync of my Classic resulted in "song not copied... because it cannot be found." The song had previously been on the iPod. I checked and despite the fact that iTunes could not find the file, the song was still on my iPod. I checked the folder and the song was exactly where t was supposed to be. So I simply set iTunes to find it again. What happened? I don't know, iTunes simply threw a wobbly!)
Second, try another Sync. Does this change anything? If the song was on the iPod, does a second Sync remove the message?  If the song was not on the iPod after the first Sync, does the second one put it on there?
    What happens?
