Library empty for no reason...

Hi,
I hope someone can help me, the weirdest thing just happened. I opened Skype, but it didn't log in, 'cause my user name was gone. Then I opened iTunes, it asked me to agree with the Terms & Conditions, but I hadn't reinstalled. I did this and saw that my Library's completely empty and my playlists are also gone. I checked my Music file and my music's still there (thankfully), but why is my Library empty? The iPhoto Library is also empty, my Keychain, iCal...
Does anyone know what might of happened?
By the way, my MacBook is about a week old.

I've just closed down and reopened Safari and my Bookmarks are gone, is it possible there's something wrong with my preferences? Do I have a virus?
The plot thickens. I've just restarted my computer to see if that would solve the problem and all my music is gone as well. Most of it is backed up on an external hard drive, although I did buy a song yesterday, that's probably gone? My Doco was back in its original position, my Desktop Background as well (i.e. the original settings), same goed for Dashboard..., please help.

Thank you Russ! Seems as though the timestamp on my audio files was completely incorrect so it placed the files far away from the corresponding video. I've modified the timestamp information and this has helped. The hour/minute information is incorrect but at least now I'm in the ballpark. Thank you!

If you're running Windows 8.1, this seems to be a common theme, or some variation there of at least. Myself, I can't even back-up on my iPhone 4S which has iOS 7.1.2 and I'm running iTunes 11.3.0.54 and have resorted to purchased the iTunes Match service to ensure that music on my primary desktop PC (which is paired to my iPhone) will be available on both the iPhone and my Windows 8.1 laptop. Regarding backing up of the iPhone, I'm thinking about going to a third party solution until either Apple and/or Microsoft can figure out why Windows 8.1 is having so many problems with the current version of iTunes (as of this writing 11.3.0.54).

I am trying to move my library and playlists to a new computer by burning to CD's. I have done the library sharing thing but I am getting rid of my primary computer and am afraid I will lose the library.

To move an iPhoto Library to a new machine:
Link the two Macs together: there are several ways to do this: Wireless Network,Firewire Target Disk Mode, Ethernet, or even just copy the Library to an external HD and then on to the new machine...
But however you do choose to link the two machines...
Simply copy the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the old Machine to the Pictures Folder on the new Machine.
Then hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
and select the Library that you moved. That's it.
This moves photos, events, albums, books, keywords, slideshows and everything else.
Your first option didn't work because you imported one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
Your second option didn't work because you simply referenced her library on the old machine.

I can't access these images except to go into the applications.
Also, I'd like to import my iphoto library into aperture, and move aperture library to an external drive. I tried the import first, but there wasn't enough space. Then I tried copying over the aperture library onto the external drive but it failed bc it said file was in use.
As it is, I only have 50gb left on my imac, and the aperture library is 150gb. Also, I have over 10k images in both libraries combined and there are tons of duplicates that need to be sorted, and hopefully not messed up because I've organized most of them.
So in short, I need to know how to do the following:
-select photos in finder in aperture/iphoto libraries
-move aperture library to live on external drive
-import iphoto library into aperture library
-eliminate dups but maintain organization
-moving forward i need a better workflow so that I import images from camera, and can organize right away into albums rather than creating projects by default and then creating albums so essentially the photos are in 2 different places, even tho they are referenced
-live happily ever after

If you're using apps like iPhoto or Aperture then they replace the Finder for managing your photos. The point is that you use the (many) options available via these apps for the things you want and need to do with the Photos.
So, simply, you don't select the photos in the Finder. I'll append the supported ways to do this - which are faster and will yield the current version of your Photos - to the end of this post.

Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit Aperture
2. Copy the Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching Aperture. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
Referenced - relocate your Masters first.
These issues are covered in the Manual and on this forum hundreds of times.

You can't. Every photo is in a Project. They’re the basic building blocks of the Library.
You might want to spend a little time with the manual or the video tutorials. I'm not sure you've grasped the app you've purchased.
The following is written for iPhoto, but about 97% works for Aperture too.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto/ APerture: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics. This is what you use to attach your shot to your GMail
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps. If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto/ Aperture.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto/ Aperture not running:
For users of 10.6 and later: You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the Library from your Services Menu.
Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.

Only photos in the Camera Roll can be deleted. The rest of the photos got there by synching to your computer. You get them off the same way.

For some reason trash refuses to empty

Having a big system clear out.
Trash is full of unwanted stuff including time machine back-ups.
For some reason trash commences the secure empty but as soon as it starts it stops.
Any ideas what I need to do to resolve this.
Thanks to anyone who has the time to help.

First, don't do a secure erase. For massive amounts of stuff emptying the trash is slow enough without adding writing zeros to all the stuff.

The cloud logo means that you purchased these songs from the iTunes Store but haven't downloaded them to your computer yet. If you want, click the clouds to download the songs and the cloud logo's will disappear for those songs too.
