Library file crashed.  Lost access to some songs.

I use iTunes Match, but the library file on my computer was saved to an external drive.  The external drive crashed.  Now, all the songs that had been saved there won't play, because the file isn't available.  How do I start over with access to all of my music?

Problem closed (although not resolved).  After working with Apple support, no resolution was found.  I asked for a refund of the iTunes match purchase price, which was granted.  Interestingly the support tech, who was very nice if not particularly helpful from a technical point of view, spun the "resolution" of refunding my iTunes match purchase price as a positive one, here is a quote from the final email
"I'm glad to hear that you're not having issues with the songs you've purchased.  Nothing makes Apple happier than to hear that our customers concerns have been rectified."
It is notable that I never had an issue downloading music directly purchased thru the iTunes store, the only issue that existed was downloading songs that I ripped from my CD collection and "matched".
I'm happy that I received my money back, however I wish that the iTunes Match service worked for me (I was looking forward to this service).  I'm most upset at the time I wasted trying to fix this problem.
I'll now download music the old fashioned way: syncing with iTunes directly.

  • Lost access to some websites

I have lost access to some websites that I regularly visit. The process hangs after the // part of the address. After a while I get this prompt: "Safari can’t open the page “http://www.faylib.org/”. The error was: “lost network connection” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1005) Please choose Report Bug to Apple from the Safari menu, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message."
I've reported this bug twice to Apple and have discussed it with the library that operates the website. It sometimes crops up when I'm in a website going to another page; it loses its place and looses the connection.
I've tried access with the latest Safari, Firefox, and IE without luck. The problem seems to have begun after I installed Security Update 2006-004 on 8/2/06. I've tried turning off pop-ups, coming at the site from a search engine, and other angles. No luck. Any ideas?

Since there appeared to be nothing wrong with my modem otherwise, I chose not to investigate replacing it. But I did solve the problem with substantial help from my local Apple dealer, MegaByte.
They suggested several things, but the one that did the trick was firewall protection. I had been running Norton Personal Firewall which was updated on 7/8 to v. 3.1. When I stopped it and reverted back to the Apple firewall protection, my fave website popped back up.

You seem to have tried everything, and you say it's syncing fine on your Dad's iMac, so I assume, you have also  done a Disk Diagnostic from an earlier post by tt2 and conclude that your iPod Hardisk is good.
You don't have to use it as a heavy paperweight, the problem is only using your Windows 7 machine for syncing.
In your troubleshooting steps, did you try to use another High-Speed USB 2.0 port, USB controller resource are very scarce, so if you use other USB devices, while syncing your iPod, it may just freeze.
Windows have a bad reputation for device conflict, so better don't connect other  USB devices, while syncing, better sync it while disconnected from Internet, stop antivirus just before you go to bed.
    Have a nice day!

  • IOS 8.3 and file system - lost access

Since updating to iOS 8.3 I've lost access to my iPad's file system using iFunbox and various file explorers using both PC and Mac.
It seems that a sandbox is being enforced in a way that even prevents reading of files or deletion of junk files (which kind of defeats the purpose of a sandbox.
I can't find a way around this but it also means that I can't backup maps in Minecraft which destroys the multi-platform nature of the app and renders hundreds of hours of work over months useless!
    Effects of the problem:
    1) I cannot access my stored data
    2) I cannot delete junk files including file clutter created by apps - this means that a factory reset will be needed more frequently
    3) I cannot manually backup files that are missed by automatic backup
    4) The ability to use custom maps on Minecraft has gone
    5) I cannot track what data apps are storing
Is there a workaround for this problem presumably until Apple fixes it (all ver

After upgrading to iOS 8.3, some third-party programs, such as PhoneClean 4 iMobie, no longer have access to the file system.
Some applications, such as Spotify, write a lot of data in the memory card. Because of the earlier case, the memory is running out of space and sometimes urgent need to eliminate these temporary files that are unnecessary.
I find it intolerable that Apple does not propose a solution to this problem or provide a tool that allows us to iPad users delete these temporary files.
I agree that security is important, but it is true that we see as our daily use memory cards are running out of space.
Therefore, I demand that Apple me a solution to this problem.
    Greetings.

I get message:"Can't save library file.  Not enough access privileges" .Don't understand what this means. No visible effect that I can see now.

Classic example of why you should save your workm in progress...just hit Ctrl+s to do it on the fly.
Yes I know. But it is the first time I work with Photoshop on such a big project and I thought it would be more stable.. Do the newer versions manage the memory better ?
You can shrink your image down which will make it smaller enough to save
Not enough memory to resize the image. And in the manipulation, it would corrupt some of my layers..
you can try to save as a diffeent format
I could succesfully save in Bitmap format. But I lose all my layers info..
The making loads of screen shots would be good if it wasnt really an
option seeing as it would use even more memory to do that then put the
image together out of the screen shots.
I made screen shots without any problem. I saved them through MS Paint without any memory problem, while Photoshop in parallel was just used as a static image for snapping...

  • HT1386 My husband and I traded ipod with each other. Now, I am unable to put my entire library on the ipod. Only some songs imported. HELP

My husband and I exchanged ipods with each other. I attempted to import my whole music library to this current ipod. only certain songs imported. Not all. How do I get the WHOLE library to this ipod?

if I sign in my iTunes on my husband's computer, will it delete his iTunes library?
LOL!  If Home Sharing deleted the other person's library, then Home Sharing wouldn't have too many users, would it?
Seriously, Home Sharing sounds like a fine solution to the need you express.
However, your question suggests that your library is not backed up, right?  You and your husband should each make a backup of your libraries.

  • My iPhone 4s music library is glitchy... skipping some songs, stops playing others... ideas?

Since upgrading to an iPhone 4s, I have noticed some strange behavior from my music player.  Nearly every time I play music for more than 20-30 minutes, something will happen and a song will suddenly skip or just stop playing altogther.  It is extremely weird.  It will physically not allow me to back up to the song that skipped, or start it over.
This is not a permissions issue, everything is fine on that end.  It is almost always when shuffling my music, although tonight when I noticed it happen to a particular song, I tried to play it buy selecting the exact song (and then album) and it would still not play.  Tried it on my iTunes library on my MBP immediately after and it played just fine.
I have seen very old discussions about AAC format.  Nearly 100% of my music is AAC (the particular song tonight is even one purchased from iTunes), and my library has never had any issues like this before, including my old iPhone 4 or any of the numerous iPods, iPads and computers that I've run.
Is anyone else experiencing anything like this?
    Suggestions?

Ok, I have been here and found an answer....
Assuming you are steaming using Bluetooth and the problem only started after updating to IOS6.... ?
I stream to a good hifi system so my answer is only related if you are steaming to a Bluetooth adapter or a
    Bluetooth enabled system
    And also...
If you are using Bluetooth & ios6....+ here is an answer I got ...
Many producers of Bluetooth adapters etc.... Use bt2.1 and state compatible with bt4.
Trouble is, bt4 wasn't around at the time so they assumed compatibility.
Now.... From IOS6.... Apple upgraded to bt4, gives better Bluetooth connectivity so they are delivering added benefit.
A lot of older bt adapters have firmware bugs with bt4.
I contacted my supplier who wouldn't agree but threatened legal action if I was to publish...
Can't of ford the fight so... Sold my bt receiver on eBay and bought an apple airport express.
Problem solved and also, i got a better quality of music.
Remember you do need wifi to use the airport express but who hasn't got that these days ?
    One last point...
if you are streaming to a decent hifi system and choose to do go down the airport express route
The mini adapter.... Headphone out socket on the airport express is also a mini toslink socket...
So, if you want to get the best from your music (limited by iTunes of course) you can use the toslink optical digital output .
Then you get into Dacs etc and start spending more n more...
    Hope this helps
    Tony

  • HT1451 Hi All, I have 2 users on my desktop, 1 i-tunes account and log-in but both users have different music contents i.e. one has the full iTunes library and the other only has some songs. How do i get both users to have the same music content?

I Have 2 users on my computer and both access i-tunes using same password etc. however 1 library has the full content of music but the other one has only partial playlists. How do I get both users to have the same full library?

The title of my initial post is a bit misleading. I already took a chance deleting one of the iPhones, hoping if I deleted the wrong one, I can still reauthorize it (all with the same Apple ID acct, so not subject to 90-day waiting period, right?) The iTunes database just updated itself, and it says I have 4 "devices" "in the Cloud", but 5 "computers" associated w my account. How can I find out what computers are associated? Isn't there a list I can see? I dont have a clue what computers they might be. If I use the  "Deauthorize All" option, is it a pain to add them all back in. I assume I would have to log in from each computer to reauthorize each one. Would I have to be running the newest OS or version of iTunes to reauthorize? I think I have a PowerBook G4 Titanium with an older OS and iTunes. I'd like to keep that authorized, if possible.

  • How to re-create playlists from Windows iTune library file?

After importing my itunes library from a Windows 7 sledded HDD, I have all my music etc but no playlists.
The kb article that explains the importing of the library files (itl and .xml) give some warnings about doing this import.
I can see both the xml file and a number of recent itl files on the sledded drive.
Am I going to mess anything up by importing these? It's possible that some of the songs the playlists pointed to are no longer in iTunes (I deleted some beore the import). Is this going to cause a problem.
    Will this even work?

Assuming your relocated library is now at *Z:\iTunes Media*, for example, copy the library files that you restored onto drive C: (iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, sentinel & Album Artwork folder - ignore the .xml) into the parent of this folder, i.e. Z:\, then click the icon to launch iTunes and *immediately press and hold the SHIFT key* until presented with an option to choose or create a library. Choose the library at Z:\ - all should be well. If I guessed wrong just use your actual media folder & parent of that media folder as approptiate.

  • My computer The File "itunes library.til" does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file.  iTunes has attempted to recover your itunes library and renamed it to "iTunes Library (Damaged itl)"

My computer crashed when I was using Itunes.  I got everything up and running and got this message "The File “itunes library.til” does not appear to be a valid iTunes library file.  iTunes has attempted to recover your itunes library and renamed it to “iTunes Library (Damaged itl)”  Everything loads up put in takes 10 min. then my music playlists are deleted everytime I turn Itunes on.  What can I do to solve this problem?  Thanks.

    Hi shyanne23,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  If your iTunes library file has become damaged in some way, you may want to try recreating your iTunes library and playlists by following this article:

  • Lost over 10,000 songs when upgraded iTunes

I have upgraded my iTunes but now there is no songs in my library i have lost over 10,000 songs how can i get them back,,i imported some cds of my own and borrowed some of friends,,is there any way of getting my songs back without importing them all again,,it did take me months to import the original songs, and i dont want to do it all over again if i can help it.

You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If the other music is not on the iPod or on the computer you will have to get it from where you obtained it the first time.

  • Sharing a library file

I am using a NAS (DNS-323) to store my iTunes files and my library. I have a mac and a PC on the network, both using the network version of the library and the itune files. It works fine if only one is active but have both active at the same time. Looks like the library file cannot be accessed by 2 different machines at the same time.
Other than using the sharing functions (for instance accessing music on my PC) which only works if the other computer is on and does not allow to modify the library (ie download, rate, ect), how can I seemlessly be accessing my files and library from two different machines on the network?

I'm not an expert, but I've been trying to do essentially the same thing to no avail. I have an iMac and a MacBook, both connected via Wi-Fi to a Time Capsule. My iTunes Library and all the music is on the Time Capsule. I have the iTunes Preferences mapped on both machines to the same Library file because I want only one Library for both machines. However I can only run iTunes on one computer at a time. I get a "... file is locked ..." error if I try to start the second.
I've seen a lot of similar posts in this forum, most of which have gone unanswered. This leads me to believe that it cannot be done. Apple insists on the "master/slave" arrangement whereby one machine has to run iTunes continuously (the "master") and others can access through the "Sharing" feature (the "slaves") with read-only privileges. This means, of course, that you have to do all ripping and purchasing on one machine only, unless you want to manually copy/import files from a "slave" to the "master".
Basically, you can't have two "master" computers accessing the same Library. Unless there's some Finder Permissions tricks I'm unaware of...

  • Lost access to one of my iTunes libraries with 10.4

I have upgraded to OSX10.7 and iTunes 10.4. Before I was running two separate libraries in iTunes. One works now but the other is greyed out and will not open. Is there a way I can convert this other library?

I have answered my own question but it may be of general help - If you have more than one library but only one of them is recognised, try the following: Compress the one which is recognised and throw out the original. Then attempt to start iTunes. It will say you need to find or create a library. Select Find and do not try to select the library you want to open. Instead select the folder in which it resides. It should then open fine. If you have only had one library but have lost access to it, it would probably do no harm to use this technique of selecting the enclosing folder, rather than the library.
