Library help

My library list of songs is still there, but the music itself is gone. It appears that theyve been deleted from my hard drive. I do have most backed up on an external hard drive. I dont know how to get them back to the library. Do I move them from the external drive to somewhere first, and then to the library? Not real computer literate here. Thanks

My Purchase list was deleted accidently ,but all music is on Music Library ,how can i relist or retrieve my music back on to that purchase playlist

How did you "move everything" over?
Migration assistance does not handle the iPhoto library well sometimes - the best way is to drag the bad iphoto library from the pictures folder on the new system to the desktop, connect the two systems together (network, firewire target mode, etc) and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old system to the pictures folder of the new system and launch iPhoto on the new system - it will open and convert the iPhoto library as necessary and you will be fine - once you test the iPhoto library you can delete the one on the desktop

  • Ipod ITunes library help please!!!

Hi, i hope someone can help. I had to return my laptop to work and it contained my ITunes library (i have spent a fortune). I thought that i had stored all the purchased songs on a memory stick but when i put this into my new laptop it won't work. I have all the songs still on the Ipod and was hoping that i could somehow tranfer them from the Ipod to the laptop to create the same ITunes library again. I could kick myself now for not getting it done properly, can anyone give me a glimmer of hope?

You can use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • All CDs deleted from iPod but still in iTunes library. help?

So i imported some more CDs to my iTunes and it wouldn't let me drag and drop it to sync. Nothing happened whenever i did that. I ended up pressing sync and it deleted all of my CDs from my iPod 5th generation. they're still in my library, but I have no clue how to get them back on my iPod. i keep dragging them and dropping them but nothing is happening. I also restored a backup, but it was still the same. I'm getting frustrated because the CDs account for most of my music on my iPod. Any help would be much appreciated!

You can't sync and use Match
    This
iTunes Match on iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
    includes:
When you enable iTunes Match on your iOS device, the music library on your iOS device will be deleted and replaced with your music in iCloud.
Syncing music with iTunes will be disabled while iTunes Match is enabled on your iOS device.

  • Ipod doesn't update all the library HELP

I've had my iPod Mini for two years now. A month ago I downloaded iTunes 7 and since then it has been a nightmare. I removed it and installed back the original software that came initially with my iPod.
I had to format my iPod and have to update it again. I have about 800 songs.
Sometimes iTunes recognizes my iPod and sometimes doesn't.
When I try to update my entire library, it only updates me 130 songs and then it says update is complete... I have tried this in another computer but it happens the same thing. I'm already thinking in buying a nano but I want to give it another try, any tips from someone?
Thanks really to anyone out there that helps me!

I'm not 100% sure, I can only think of two things that might work. Make sure that all of the songs have a check mark next to them, and you could also try unsyncing and resyncing your ipod to your computer.
Also, if your ipod is still under warranty, you can always call the APPLE SUPPORT LINE and see what they say.
Hope this helps, and I hope your problem gets fixed!

  • 2 Win XP logons with same iTunes library - HELP!

My wife and I both have Nanos. We each have separate logons on Win XP. We each have our own iTunes with our own playlists. However, we both use the same folder for our iTunes library. For the first time, I ripped some CDs on her Win XP logon on her iTunes. Now, the tracks show up in her iTunes library but not on mine. Is there a way to make iTunes scan the library folder to make it update my library with the missing tracks?
Many thanks in advance! I have searched the forum threads and iTunes Help to no avail...
    Heston

But, if I add the root folder (D:/Music), then won't iTunes duplicate files that I have already added from that root folder? The folders where the new files were placed are all subfolders of the same root folder, so adding those folders wouldn't seem to make sense. I can, of course, manually launch each new file to add it to the iTunes library, but how laborious! If there is truly no "scan function" (sync) in iTunes, it needs to be added. I have had an iPod since 2002, and just switched from Media Jukebox to iTunes this year. Media Jukebox does what I am talking about above, plus much more, but, alas, it will not play the BS protected iTunes purchased files...

  • I have a new pc, and want to transfer my itunes library, help me?

I got a new computer today, it upgrades and old laptop that I'm currently running itunes off. its connected to the new computer by a wireless network, but I cna figure out how to rtansfer my library. I'm not a computer whiz, but I dont know what to do, any help would be MOST appreciated.
    thanks!

Apple covers how to do this with an iPod here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
If you do not have an iPod and have an external Hard Drive you can still follow most the steps there to transfer your iTunes to your PC, just replace the words/steps for iPOd with "External Harddrive"
Wireless isn't that heavly recommended for this because of how wireless can suddenly drop signal, but you can just copy the whole iTunes folder and send it over to the new PC over your network. Keep in mind tho any music you have outside the iTUnes folder will not transfer over and will show up in iTunes on the new PC with a ! mark beside it

  • Hard Drive Failed - iPod synced with previous iTunes Library - HELP!

The hard drive on our Dell laptop recently failed. We had to replace it and completely reinstall the operating system, which wiped out everything, including iTunes. All of our music currently resides on our iPod (thousands of songs!). After reinstalling iTunes on the new hard drive, iTunes will not sync up because it says the iPod is already synced to another iTunes library.
That library was deleted when we wiped out our hard drive.
HOW can we rescue the songs on our iPod and download them to our new iTunes? It's telling us that if we sync, all music on the iPod will be erased!
    Help!

Connect your iPod to your computer. When you get the message that it is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press "Cancel". Pressing "Erase and Sync" will irretrievably remove all the songs from your iPod. When your iPod appears in the iTunes source list change the update setting to manual, that will let you use our iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Also when using most of the utilities listed below your iPod needs to be enabled for disc use, changing to manual update will do this by default: Managing content manually on iPod
Once you are safely connected there are a few things you can do to restore your iTunes from the iPod. The transfer of content sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod. You'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos, podcasts and games as well. Have a look at the web pages and documentation, this is just a small selection of what's available, they are generally quite straightforward. You can read reviews and comparisons of some of them here:
Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
    Comparison of iPod managers
TuneJack Windows Only (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
    iPod2PC Windows Only
    iDump Windows Only
    SharePod Windows Only
    iPodRip Mac & Windows
    YamiPod Mac and Windows
    Music Rescue Mac & Windows
    iPodCopy Mac and Windows
    Floola Mac & Windows
iGadget Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iRepo Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
iPod Access Mac & Windows (iPhone and iPod Touch compatible)
If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available on page 2 at this link: Copying Content from your iPod to your Computer - The Definitive Guide
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

  • ITunes library help - moved to external drive and now my apps are gone?

I moved my iTunes library to an external drive, but now my apps are gone? I do have iTunes match and iCloud, so my songs are all on the cloud, but none of my apps are showing...
I copied everything over, consolidated, but I must have messed something up as I think I have too many library files on the external drive now. I can see all my files on the external drive, but they are not showing up when I open itunes. It looks like it linked to a new copy of a library as only my most recent apps are showing, nad none of my existing ones are on itunes. What should I do to fix this? How do I know which files to delete?
    Thanks.

I followed the instructions from Apple support to move itunes to an external drive, did what it said (obviously I messed something up). I then started itunes and missed the part where it says to tell itunes where the library was, and consequently itunes created a new library with none of my apps or anything in it.
All of my music is on icloud and I als ohave itunes match, so all of my music is on the cloud.
I have read some of the other postings to delete the newly made (and missing apps) itunes library file and ithen point it to the correct library file, but I am now paranoid I would delete the wrong one.
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • I've upgraded to new version of itunes on windows 7 PC - no link to my library - HELP!!

    Hi There
So, upgraded to new itunes - no link to my previous library though some recent itunes purchases there.  Have tried draggin music file into Itunes - only connects first song on first album.  tried dragging individual albums - again only first song and seems to be asking me to repurchase my entire collection (100's of thousands of songs - I don't think so!).
The general help form apple is not clear and if I have interpreted it correctly, doesn't work.  I really, really need my music back - would rather loose my photo collection than my music collection.  if you could help, it would be much appreciated!
    Many thanks

  • IPods crash and can't back up library - HELP

I have had an iPod mini for 1.5 years. My spouse got an iPod (30GB video) recently. When we switch between them to update songs from one library, the iPods crash and have to be reset (even that takes a few tries following instructions on iPod help).
I tried circumventing the problem by copying the library on my laptop from our PC (to have one iPod with one computer, both have XP Pro) with the USB drive but the library won't copy from USB drive to the new iTunes. (it will play songs from USB but won't copy them).
    1. Can I backup the library on another computer?
    2. What is the safest way to create a backup library (CDs in my experience may not last long)?
    3. If we update the computer (hopefully soon) will that mean that we can't copy the library to a new commputer and will lose all the songs we bought?
    4. How can we prevent either iPod from blocking or crashing?
Thanks for any advice and help.

Update: Success! I used my iPod as an external hard drive following these instructions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1329?viewlocale=en_US
After I reformatted I reinstalled my old iTunes 6 and dragged the folder back to My Music. At first, iTunes wuldn't sync a couple hundred songs to my iPod because I wasn't "authorized" so I had to enter my Apple ID and password. Downloaded latest software for Itunes and iPod and all is good.
Investing in an external hard drive still sounds like a good idea, since this was my first reformat and it was a bit nerve-wracking.

  • ITunes 7.0.2 Lost most of the music in my library - HELP

I've been using iTunes for a long time with no problems. Suddenly most of my music library is showing up as missing. I checked and all of the songs are still on my disk and a second copy backup as well. I tried using an older version of the library file and that didn't work. I was able to relink one of the songs by going out and finding it but that would be a huge effort to relink all my songs back to the library. I have over 16000 songs and more than half are missing! Please help me to figure out what is going on and fix the problem. Thanks. Ann

  • IPhoto doesn't recognize iPhoto library - HELP!

When I opened iPhoto today, there are "no photos" in the library, and when I open it holding the option key and try to select the iPhoto library (which does exist) it says it can't recognize those files. I can't get iPhoto to be the default application for jpeg files either - it says it doesn't recognize those either. I know the photos are there in the library but iPhoto won't open them - please help!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
Further, iPhoto is a database not an image viewer and it cannot be be set as the default application to view files.

  • Library HELP! Exporting and Importing and how dated folders work.

Where do I go to get help on a huge library like this and how to make sense of it all? Is there a book or a program or a site?
Please help and thanks so much in advance!
I'm very frustrated. I have an old G4 10.3.9 with iphoto 5 or 6 I forget which, I'm trying to get all my photos onto my new iMac 24 10.5 iphoto 08.
I have three different users libraries to import. The iphoto library under my name got corrupted somehow so I looked up on here on what to do. So I created a new library and added a _1 after it and my library was back although my dates did not see to be right and everything was grouped weird. huge groups of photos are grouped in filed that are named as dates that the photos were not taken in or imported in or anything. 1993 is one of them. I did not even have a computer then! But what's weird is the date on the photo file itself is correct, I mean as far as when the photo was actually taken. So there may be some hope.
So I still have the old and new library for fear that I did not recover all the photos. There are about 5500 photos.
I did an export of the whole library and imported all 5500 photos into my imac and iphoto 08
I don't know what the proper way to do that is but that is how I did it.
I also am going to save the entire library both new and old and go through it all one day when I have the time. I did not want to put the old library folder in the new imac for fear that is would corrupt it. I wanted to start fresh.
It's going kind of OK except that I have many duplicates with a _1 in addition to the name. Also, the dates are just crazy! It does not make any sense! I am having a date problem with my old G4. It does not remember a date if you shut it off. I put a new battery in and reset the pram but still forgets the date. I think this may be related.
I know I'm kind of rambling but i have been working on this for hours and I'm so exhausted. I can't find my external hard drive and I know it would be so easy to just back it all up on there and figure this one later. I guess I will just cram it all onto a bunch of DVD's until I find it.
Where do I go to get help on a huge library like this and how to make sense of it all? Is there a book or a program or a site?
Please help and thanks so much in advance!

  • Pictures from an iphoto album are not in iphoto library HELP

I have photos in an album on my iphoto but they are not actually in the library?? how does this make sense!? so when i come to delete them i dont know if they're deleted or not.
also another topic is that to delete a picture in i phioto i have to delete it from the library dont i as if i delete it form an album it just deletes it from the album??
sprry probably very dumb questions but im just trying to figure it all out.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
If the photos are in an Album, then they are in an Event, somwhere.
One way to find them might be to flag them, which will help them stand out a little as you search.
Yes, to remove a pic from iPhoto it needs to be removed from the Library view - either Events or Photos.
