Library in Windows Explorer but not in iTunes

I can see my whole library in W.E. and play the songs from there. But when I launch iTunes, "Music" is empty and my self-created Playlists are not there.
I have re-installed iTunes. I have gone to Edit > Preferences > Advanced and made sure the library has the correct path. Please help!

Thank you for responding!
I did this...still nothing is there. (It gives me only one .itl file to choose.)
Let me back up a minute...the very first thing I did was transfer everything to my new iPod. That went well.
Then I wanted to put another family member's songs on his new iPod. All of his songs are in my library. I thought it would make syncing easier if we each had our own library so I created one for him. That is when MY library disappeared.
(While this was going on, I plugged in his new iPod to the computer to start charging it. It was set for manual syncing. Something was wrong...it did not charge.)
I can see things in Windows Explorer. The new library is Music > Steve's Library. My library is Music > iTunes. Both folders contain an .itl file. When I click on either of these files, iTunes launches but nothing is there.
I checked Music > iTunes > iTunes Music again...all the songs are there and I can play them from Windows Explorer so I know they are not corrupted.

  • I can see partially downloaded movies in Windows Explorer but not in iTunes, why?

I recently updated an iPad on which I had purchased and downloaded some movies. After updating, I was trying to get the movies back on the iPad by downloading them to my PC and then transfering them over. Only one of 5 movies downloaded completely, but the others started. I can see them listed in the iTunes > iTunes Media > Downloads file, but they don't appear in iTunes to resume and when I check for available downloads, I get nothing.
How can I get these movies down to either my PC or iPad?

First thing to try is a reboot of your iPad. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the iPad restart. See if that fixes your problem.
None of my cameras has a GPS function so I never see that data in the info of a photo in iPhoto for iOS. But I do see the map choice to set a location for the photo. Perhaps a reboot will fix this for you.

  • 7th Gen iPod Classic was unplugged during sync, now it pops up in Windows Explorer, but not iTunes. How can I fix this?

    Okay.
I have a Windows 7 x32 OS, and an 80gb Silver 7th Gen iPod Classic.
So, I bought an iPod used off of eBay and I recently decided that 80gb was a bit too much, so I was going to resell it on eBay and buy a smaller iPod.
While I was restoring it to set it back to factory settings, my computer shut off due to a power problem.
Now when I plug it in, I get a message from windows saying "You need to format the disk in drive :M before you can use it. Do you want to format it?"
It shows up in windows explorer as a Removable Disk, and it isn't being detected by iTunes. I plug it in the iPod says "Connected. Eject before disconnecting." with a symbol that it makes when it is syncing.
I've tried putting it in disk mode, and it still will not detect it.
Can somebody help me? I really don't want to be stuck with a broken iPod.
If anyone needs or wants any more information before they can advise, please feel free to tell me what you need to know and I will post it!
Thanks, and have a blessed day.

    Hello b0nvivant,
Thank you for providing so much information about the iPod issue you are experiencing.  I found an article with steps to take when your iPod is recognized in Windows Explorer but not in iTunes:

The new iTunes 12 does not have a rent tab. I've downloaded two movies which appear in the Movies folder on my Windows Explorer but not in the actual iTunes programme itself. Completely frustrating! Where can I find these two movies to watch? It asked me once it was downloaded if I wanted to watch it but I wasn't ready to and now can't find where to play these again.

When iTunes/iPod sync process failed due to timeout, the iPod, has only the initilaised  filesytem structure at the start of the Sync.
The timeout failure could be due to
Bad hardisk - do the iPod disk diagnostic, refer to this excellent post by tt2
Slow USB port or resource - Dont use any USB hub, disconnect all other USB devices while syncing
Timeout due to Antivirus or other plugins - disconnect from Internet and stop the Antivirus or monitoribng software if you are syncing.
Preferably stop doing other things while syncing this ancient device, which the latest iTunes designer, think will soon be extinct.
    Have a nice day!

  • I accidentally cut instead of copied a folder of previously imported raw files. When I pasted the folder back I could see it in Windows Explore but not in the LR library. How can I work with these files again?

    HI,
My daughter will often ask me to give her raw files I've taken at family events so that she can process them in her own copy of LR. (I work too slowly, apparently.) Recently I inadvertently cut instead of copied a folder. When I pasted it back I could see it in Windows Explorer but not in my LR library. I thought that re-importing the files might work, LR gave me a message that they were already imported. I expect there is a way to make the files available again in LR and would be grateful for some advice.
    thanks
    Ken

The solutions is either of the following:
Adobe Lightroom - Find moved or missing files and folders
Copy the photos back into the exact same folder and folder location that they were in before
I don't know what you actually did "when I pasted it back" ... but the bigger issue is that you shouldn't be working with these files in your operating system, period. Once you import them into Lightroom, you don't manage these files in your operating system.

In iTunes, select the iPod in the iTunes sidebar, under DEVICES.  Over to the right, go to the Summary tab.
There should be a checkbox that says Enable disk use.  Check it and Apply the change.  It should now appear in Windows, when the iPod is connected.
NOTE:  When Disk Use is enable, you have to eject the iPod (in iTunes) before physically disconnecting it from computer.

  • Folder appears in Windows Explorer, but not in the Open File dialog

    Hello,
I hope this is the right place to post this. If not, please let me know where is.
A friend just showed me a weird problem he is having with his computer. He is using Windows 7 pro, and has a folder under My Documents, in which he keeps his work files. He emails these files using Gmail, which he accesses via Internet Explorer.
All worked fine until a few days ago, when he noticed that when he clicked the link in Gmail to attach a file, his folder wasn't listed in the Open File dialog. He looked in Windows Explorer, and could see the folder OK. I tried opening Word and using the Open
File dialog there, and the folder wasn't visible.
If he clicks in the address bar, and adds the folder name to the path, it opens the folder, but shows it as empty. I actually has two subfolders. If he adds the name of a subfolder, then the Open File dialog shows the files in that folder.
I checked the permissions on the folder, and couldn't see anything odd. What I don't understand is how the folder can be visible in Windows Explorer, and not in the Open File dialog.
    Anyone any ideas? Thanks

I can confirm - I'm having the exact same problem.
When I try to lookup or save a file from an IE file dialog some folders do not show up. I can type the folder name into the directory field and it then goes there, but this assumes you know the directory name and it's a PITB.
Firefox can browse to the directory directly.
It would be interesting if anyone else found a fix for this - I'll post here again if I find out more somewhere else, but there are not too many threads out there as far as I have found for now.
Found a solution over at answers at Microsoft dot com. (can post links here yet - will update once I can)
In short: There's a fast fix for this issue by resetting a hidden flag that IE sets for some folders. I believe this part of the "protected mode" feature, though I can't confirm and also have no idea how this would protect me from any intruders,
if only (unimportant) subfolders are protected ...
Anyway - if you know the name of the missing folder (e.g. from browsing the directories form windows explorer): in the parent directory that has the folder missing do a Search (in box at top right) for the missing
folder name. In my case the hidden folder shows up in the search - now right click -> Properties -> clear hidden flag. Note: this "hidden" flag is independent of the flags set in windows explorer - that's why you have trouble going there with IE and not
the file explorer from the desktop.

  • New Workaround: Nano's showing in Windows Explorer but not iTunes

Just tried it, since I've tried everything else so I thought I would share with everyone else.
I had a Nano that would not be detected in iTunes 7, but it would show in Windows Explorer as a Removable Drive.
    1. Disconnect iPod, close iTunes 7.
    2. Access Windows Task Manager --> (CTRLALTDEL)
    3. End "iPodService.exe" Process
    4. Reconnect iPod via USB
    5. Restart iTunes.
What I found was that when iTunes opens it restarts the Ipod service and will detect the unit in iTunes.
You may have to do this everytime you want to hook up your iPod until a fix comes.
    But hey it works.

Check to see if the Nano is enable for disk use. If it is, disable it. For whatever reason ITunes gives me problems when I leave both my iPod enable for disk use. Only one of them appears. When I Unchecked the disk use, the problem has gone away.

  • Can see photos in Windows Explorer, but not through Photos app

I had to get my iPhone 6 (64GB) replaced due to a hardware issue. I backed up my old iPhone, and then restored the backup onto my new iPhone. Everything ported over fine, except for the photos. I lost about 1 month worth of photos. The weird thing is that I can view these photos when I explore my phone through Windows Explorer, yet they are not appearing in the Photos app. I have tried another restore but it does not fix the problem. I'm using iOS 8.1.

In Windows explorer delete the file Foldertree.json.

  • Can see my file in Windows explorer but not in DW

There's gotta be an easy fix for this one...  I have a .jpg that I copied over into the file structure of my local site.  I know it's there, I can open it from Windows explorer.  But DW doesn't see it!  I tried just closing and relaunching DW and rebuilding the cache... what am I missing?  It just doesn't show up in the DW file list!
    Thanks,

OOPS!  As you might have guessed I was looking in the wrong place... WAMP instead of XAMPP, I have a duplicate file system and saved my .jpgs to the old one.

  • Files visible in Windows Explorer but not in Finder

    Hi,
I'd burned a dvd around a year back with around 30 audio files on a PC. I now use a Mac. All the files in the dvd are visible on any Windows machine, but only 4 of the files are visible in the Mac Finder. Could somebody explain how can I access all the files on a Mac?

JuhOS X lists all files and flags invisible ones. Some applications let you toggle invisibility, though this doesn't take effect until you restart the Finder.

  • My iphone 4s is recognized by my(windows) computer but not by itunes. I already follow the apple tutorials but there is still no change.

I followed all the steps in the Apple support pages that I found, these include:
    Reinstalling Itunes
    Checking the drivers
    Disabling and abeling the drives.
Please help I dont know what else to do.

Disable the setting in iTunes to automatically launch when a device is connected.   Then shut down iTunes.
Reconnect your phone.   See if that does the trick.   If not, shut down EVERY OTHER APP running on your PC as it may be running too much CPU.   I had a Vista laptop that just couldn't run iTunes anymore and shutting down everything always worked for me.

  • Bug/Solution: iPod seen by Windows but not by iTunes

(apologies if this has already been reported)
So I had the problem where iPod would show up in Windows as a drive letter, but iTunes wouldn't see it at all. I had followed all the instructions in this article to no avail:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716
And then I tried something which ended up working. This may be somewhat of an edge case scenario, but it's possible others may hit it:
My OS is installed on the D: drive, instead of normally on C:. Also, there was nothing assigned to C:. So when the iPod was plugged in, Windows gave it C:. As I said, iTunes would not recognize the device at all.
On a whim, I reassigned some other USB device to C: so that the iPod would be forced to a different drive letter (I think it was G). Lo and behold, iTunes recognized the iPod just fine.
I didn't do any other testing on it, but it seems if iPod's drive letter < OS letter, iTunes won't see it(?)
Anyway, hope this helps someone else.<br>
    30gb   Windows XP

Thanks a lot, I must have spent close to 15 hours trying to figure out why my ipod didn't work with my re-installed windows. It turned out my windows was on drive H:, and the ipod was being mounted to drive C:. I switched the ipod to drive I:, and it finally worked! The following instructions may help if your computer sees your ipod in windows explorer (My computer) but not in iTunes, and the ipod is mounted on a drive letter lower than the operating system.
To switch your Ipod to a different drive letter:
    1. Connect your ipod to the desired usb 2.0 port.
    2. Go to the start menu and click "Control Panel".
    3. If you are in "Category view" (check the upper left where it says "Switch to classic view") switch to classic view.
    4. Double-Click "administrative tools".
    5. Double-Click "computer management".
    6. Under "storage" on the left, click "Disk Management", and wait for it to connect to the logical disk managament service.
    7. Your Ipod should show up in "volume" column; RIGHT click on it and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths..." from the pop-up menu.
    8. Click on the "Change..." button.
    9. Select a different drive letter from the pull down menu. (Pick a drive letter higher than the one your operating system .ie Windows XP.. is installed on. For example if Windows is on drive D:, then pick a drive letter E: or higher.)
    10. Click "Ok"
    11. Click "Yes"
    12. Restart the computer, and see if your Ipod will connect to iTunes!

  • Apple, Pfft!!! (Another iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes post)

How in the world does Apple market the iPod, etc... as if 10-year olds and grandmothers can operate the technology, when having viewed these message boards for 10 hours yesterday, it seems as even the tech savy people who can make a computer out of two pieces of bread and a piece of bologna have to wrack their brains to make it come a step closer to actually working. Blah!!!
Anyway, the problem that I am having is the problem that a lot of other people are having and seems to be the main theme at the moment.
I am unable to have iTunes recognize my iPod. My PC will once-in-a-blue-moon recognize the iPod as its own drive in Windows Explorer, but mostly all I get is the big freeze. Every time I connect my iPod to the USB, all of the programs cease to operate until I unplug it. I am not having memory problems either.
Here's what I've done. I have updated the iPod Updater to the 06-23-06 version. I was able to get it to update the software on my 60GB iPod. I got all excited only to then have it give me several error messages 1) an internal manager error and 2) some unable to dock or something like that (sorry I'm not at my home cpu.) Once while I was doing the 4-hour battery charge my iPod came up in the source list in iTunes, but I have been unable to have it be rerecognized.
I've unistalled and reinstalled iTunes and the iPod Updater over 10 times and have gone through the 5 Rs as well as all of the steps on
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93716 (My iPod shows up in Windows but not in iTunes)
I've even messed with msconfig and tried a whole bunch of other suggestions. It doesn't seem that Apple has a fix for this problem and we are all left with paperweights.
    Any suggestions?
Thanks you all and condolences to everyone who is going through this same problem. I swear what happened to plug and play. Pfft!!!

You know they are probably going to search me out and crash my computer for posting this but i had the same problem with iTunes. i spent hours, went through the 50000 "R's" and changed my settings and formatted and reset and reloaded and then i tried Realaudio. it found all the songs i had loaded into iTunes and put them on my shuffle first try. you can get Realaudio at <www.real.com> Let me know how it works...
