Library is empty, but computer and ipod are full!

I opened itunes to see that my library was empty (I had some troubles with my computer last night)
I have all my music on my external hard drive, itunes is on my D. my ipod has all my music and playlists..
how can I get my library back from my ipod, and not have to create another library and reselecting all my music?

Try holding down the Shift key in Windows when opening iTunes. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to an existing one. The default location for your iTunes library is in C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\ (or C:\Username\Music\iTunes\ in Vista). Look in there and see if you have more than one library file (they have the extension .itl) If you have more than one try opening them in turn, you may find your original library is still intact: How to open an alternate iTunes Library file

Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.
    As IO said before:
You can redownload most iTunes pruchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
I do not think it included audio books.

I reset my computer and ipod and it says that my ipod is syncing music but when I look on my ipod touch there is no music there. How can i fix it? I have backed up and restored my ipod touch 4th gen several times.

This came from another thread, but worked for me.  Problem is with newest iTunes 4.62.  Unistall iTunes, as well as its helper programs (Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support, and Apple Software Update).  Reboot, and reinstall iTunes.  It will reinstall all the other ones and you should be able to connect your nano.  Good luck.

  • Since upgrading iTunes 10, my computer and iTunes are no longer recognizing my iPod Touch.

Since upgrading iTunes 10, my computer and iTunes are no longer recognizing my iPod Touch.  Would a full reset of my iPod resolve this?  The iPod is still working, I just can't update apps or add songs...  The computer says that "one of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctions, and Windows does not recognize it.  iTunes is not seeing the iPod at all....

You have a driver/service problems and that is covered in the above.

hi can anyone help please ? i have had apple products now for apron 7 years BUT have never been able to make the bluetooth work , not even when 2 products i.e. : phone and iPod are in the same room. So i stopped trying but would like to set it up between my iMac and iphone / ipad but can't get it to work, they say discoverable but just will not connect to one another. I also tried the connection code and tried without one ... NO JOY ... Is this common or am i a twit ?

You can't connect an iPhone or iPad to a Mac via Bluetooth, except for Internet tethering.
You're not doing anything wrong - it just isn't a feature of iOS devices.
What were you hoping a Bluetooth connection would allow you to do?

  • My ipod touch accidentally disconnected during sync, after that it wont sync at all. although it appears to be syncing on botht he computer and ipod, it rushed through "determining which tracks to sync' step and no changes are actually made.

my ipod touch accidentally disconnected during sync, after that it wont sync at all. although it appears to be syncing on both the computer and ipod, it rushes through "determining which tracks to sync' step and no changes are actually made.i restarted both and reset the ipod. i checked to see that the computer recognizes the ipod (yes) and tried to sync over wifi with the same result...(i am afraid to retore to factory original beacuse the problem is about transferring from th computer itunes to the ipod)

There is no good way for yur problem since iTunes sees the iPOd.  Yu can ry removing and reinstalling all the Apple software using:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
However, I suspect a restor, first try from backup, is required.

  • Ihave computer and ipod connected but they will not sync. How do I get them to sync?

I have my computer and ipod connected but they will not sync. How do I get them to sync.?  I have done the previous action before but now I have a new ipod because my other ipod was stolen.

Actually this happened to me today and although it would not let me play the file it allowed me to use that same file i had exported from iphotos but could not play and then it allowed me to open it in imovie (you can go to import and then get it from the desktop or wherever) although I made a couple of changes to it the main thing is once you drag it into the space to begin a new project you can then right click and select open in finder and that file actually plays......if its cause i made some changes to it i.e trimmed it slightly then its worth doing so.

  • Matched track lists on computer and Ipod

I am using classic ipod and recently the ticked tracks on itunes and ipod are not matching.
Eg iTunes shows I have 19157 tracks yet iPod shows I have 19156. This is doing my head in.
Does anyone have a clue how to correct this?
It was OK up until a few months ago. I am totally OCD with iTunes and fully understand how to sync etc. I have also checked the duplicates section and nothing is showing thats would make me change anything.
    Many thanks

    Hello parison,
Here are a couple of things to check..
    1. First and foremost, are you receiving any error messages while syncing your iPod with your iTunes library? Some of these may be due to songs not being authorized (songs purchased through iTunes), compatible with your iPod model, or they could simply not be located by your iTunes library. For each of these error messages, I have provided the necessary steps to take care of each
If you have songs not authorized, figure out what account they were purchased under and then authorize that account by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize Computer." Enter in the appropriate credentials and you should receive a confirmation regarding successfully authorizing the account for your library. If you have no idea whose account they were purchased under, you might want to just consider deleting these tracks for good because they will useless to you anyways.
Check your iPod's User Guide to see what types are compatible and either re-rip the tracks into iTunes with an appropriate format (such as ALAC, ACC, or MP3) or use a third party utility to convert them. Then try resyncing them to your iPod.
If there are numerous entries for this error message, this could get tedious. You will first need to figure out where these tracks are actually located on your computer. You can either do a search through Windows Explorer on a PC or use Spotlight on a Mac. Then either move them to the location iTunes has already specified where to look or re-import them so iTunes can look for it at its new current location.
    2. Double check your syncing preferences. For example, if you have the option "sync all checked songs and videos" enabled from under the Summary tab for your iPod in iTunes, make sure each track you are wishing to sync to your iPod has a tick mark next to it. Also, double checked to make sure you also have the iPod set up to sync your "Entire music library."
    3. Check for duplicate files. If you manually manage your iPod's contents, double check to makes sure that you have not synced any duplicates. When you make a change to a track in iTunes and add it back to your iPod, it doesn't override the old file but instead, just adds the new copy. On the other hand, if your iPod syncs automatically with your iTunes library, double check for duplicates in your actual iTunes Music Library. To quickly check, choose File -> Show Duplicates to see if any are listed. If there are, these duplicate tracks will not sync to your iPod.
    4. If you wish to truly narrow down what tracks are missing, use a program like YamiPod to export a list of songs on your iPod to compare to your iTunes library. Yes also, very tedious, but much easier to read and compare with than viewing the list of songs from your iPod itself
Hopefully one of these will help you figure out where the missing culprit is.

  • If my computer and ipod were stolen how do I get back the music I have already purchased?

I purchased a new computer and ipod but can't retrieve any of my old music. If I try to go to the itunes store and click on the items I have already purchased it says "are you sure you want to purchase this again."

    You only get one download.
Unless you are int the U.S, then you can use icloud beta.  Open itunes store, click Purchased, under Quick Links.
