Library keeps corrupting, library keeps corrupting

At least once a week when opening iTunes my library does not load and dissapears, I then have to reload all my music, podcasts etc, having over 80gb, this takes some time and is getting frustarting....

I've got the same issues.
Drobo S. OS X 10.7.2. iTunes 10.5
iTunes will not open at all or opens and says iTunes file is damaged and will rebuild. I've tried everything I can think of to do. Repairs, permissions, checks, boot in safe mode, etc. and nothing works.
I'm rebuilding the iTunes file again to see what happens. There is nothing about this in Drobo support.
Anybody coming up with any new info?

  • I was told at the apple store to open a new I-Tunes library and transfer the music from the old library to the new.  He thinks there is a problem with the old library as it keeps corrupting the i-pod.  Any ideas on how???

Was told by the person at the APple store today to open new library on I-tunes - he felt the current library has something wrong and that opening a new library and transferring the music to there would perhaps prevent the ipod from becoming corrupt.   Any ideas how to do this???

Need more info, if you want better response.
What do you mean by corrupting the iPod?
What is wrong with your iPod?
Which version of iTunes are you using?

  • Library keeps corrupting - very frustrating

I'm running the latest versions of SL and iTunes on a 27" iMac. Library is held on an external Drobo running the latest firmware. Solution has been stable for 18 months+ until this started happening this week.
3 times in the last week, the iTunes library file has corrupted. So when I startup iTunes, I get the message that its importing "itunes library.xml". When complete, I am left with a library which has about 20% of total items in it. All movies, podcasts and tv shows aren't showing, so I have to re-add each folder to iTunes to get it to pick them up. Much of my music is also not showing and when I do get everything in, its lost a lot of cover art and has media types incorrectly classified.
The machine and Drobo are powered down properly each night, nothing is just switched off while in the middle of something. I've repaired all volumes with disk utility.
Any idea what could be causing this or what I could do to rectify it please?
I'm also unsure if there's an easy way to backup a few files meaning i can restore the library if this happens again, as so far, each one I try to replace, iTunes seems to initialise it as a new library.
    Thanks,
    Mike.

  • My Itunes Just updated to 10.7.0.21 library and keeps corrupting and removing my library constantly

OK I don't know what is going on with my PC but it has some serious issues it would seem. Important sidenote: I've had some major issues with the 10.7.0.27 update and iTunes.
A few days before installing 10.7.0.27, I opened iTunes and all of my music and playlists were gone. Frustrating, but I keep all my music filed on an external hard drive so I was able to import all of music. I couldn't get back my playlists but that wasn't the end of the world.
I noticed in my iTunes folder (G:/My MUSIC > ITUNES) that there is a file called "iTunes Library (Damaged)" along with my current "iTunes Library.itl". I presume the 'damaged' library is the one where my playlists reside but due to some fault I can no longer access them?
Can I make use of the 'damanged library' and perhaps restore things to how they were? If I cannot use the damaged library then can I delete it?
I checked the 'Previous iTunes Library' but the only library in there is the one from the first day of purchase (so it's empty).
iTunes does seem to be very buggy for me at the moment. Would deleting preferences etc be a good idea at this point? So many issues I Just Want To Be able To Use my Library without having to constantly have to import my thousands of songs over a series of many hours every time i open my itunes.
    Any Help Would be Appreciated.

Wow I'm so happy that people arent helping at all. Thanks apple youre the best!

  • Lightroom keeps crashing now the library is corrupt and cannot be used - any idea why?

Lightroom is shutting itself down almost every 20 minutes. I have re-opened it and kept working then it happens again. I have re-started the PC and that helps but their seems to be something wrong. Have around 4000 photos in folders and then sub-folders. Any ideas? Have a two day old back-up that I can start using again on though I would love a way to restore / repair the corrupt version, which is held in a "CorruptDBs" folder.
Have been using Lightroom on a laptop for months without issue, now I have it on new PC, and this problem arises though only since the large number of images were imported (approx 4000).
    Any suggestions welcome

I can't say why LR is crashing off hand, but I may be able to help out with the corrupt database:

My iTunes won't open! It keeps saying 'The iTunes Library.itl is locked on a locked disk or you not have write permission for this file.' Please Help!

this may happen on external drives if:
The external drive was hotpluged (removed) without going the correct "eject" way
The iTunes library (database) got corrupted
    First Aid for external drive
    Close iTunes
Unmount (eject) external drive the right way.
    Mount drive again
Go to Workplace -> right click external drive -> choose "clean up" This will force the filesystem to rescan the file structure of the drive and rebuilding the file system table and journaling file.
After the tool shows "done" (could last some time depending on size of drive) restart iTunes
If your iTunes library is on your internal drive, this may happen
The system was not shoot down correct, e.g. "pulled the plug"
The iTunes library (database) got corrupted
First Aid for internal hard drive
    Close iTunes
    Reboot system
Go to Workplace -> right click external drive -> choose "clean up"

  • HT3819 My iMac had a corrupt seagate HD that had to be replaced my imovie files & itunes video library are missing when I picked up my Mac from Apple?

I purchased my 27" iMac in October 2010 after attending classes we discovered my computer needed new graphics card, hard drive, and a total rebuild after owning it only 6 months. Apple rebuilt my new computer, several months later same issues began yet again, slowly Apple began replacing defective parts they installed, my computer still hasn't worked as it should and has been in and out of Apple all the time sometimes they keep it for weeks! running tests?? February 10, 2013 I took my imac back in because it has been taking upwards of 6 minutes to make 1 single edit in imovie after 6 days of editing my project I could No Longer save in itunes, external HD, or export my imovie videos (they are 4 min up to 20 min max) Apple informed me that my Hard Drive was corrupt a bad batch of Seagate HD had been installed and my computer was again affected by this and it needed to be replaced and they couldn't get it to respond at all my itunes library was missing, etc. We saved my videos on my external HD I brought in with me. The Genius bar said they would call me in 3-5 days for me to pick up my computer. 9 Days later not hearing back from them I went in to get an update February 19, 2013 No one can tell me what was done except my HD was replaced they can't answer my questions about my itunes library being reinstated or my videos, music is missing, podcasts, etc. I was even using icloud, empty? They tell me IF I find anything wrong or not working again to just bring it back.  My iMovie videos ALL the edits are missing ? I can't find ANY of my videos in my itunes my Library is empty as it is in imovie except for 2 videos? HELP! I can't imagine having to re-edit my entire video with sound effects, fronts, graphics, etc. I spent weeks on this :-( I'm at my wits end with my iMac.... I have searched in my previous itunes library EMPTY ! Waaaah! I want my mommy....

The Apple Store is not responsible for data loss and generally does not do any backups of your data before performing any repairs, though in some cases, as seems to be the case in yours, they guide you to making your own backup. Here's what they say on the "getting service page" (when I've taken a system in for service a similar statement was presented to me when I agreed to the service):
Many repairs require Apple to replace or reformat the hard disk, which will result in the loss of your data. Please make sure you back up your data on a regular basis to minimize your data loss. Learn more about backup options. Apple and Apple Authorized Service Providers are not responsible for any damage to or loss of any applications, data, or other information stored on your Mac desktop while performing service.
Since you say that you backed up your videos before the drive was replaced, why can you not just restore them? And did you not back up anything else?
If you didn't make any sort of backup of your other data prior to taking the iMac in for service, then sorry but your data is almost certainly gone. Regular reliable backups are a must, particularly when dealing with content you spend a lot of time creating. You may be able to re-download any content you purchased from the iTunes Store or Mac App Store, but anything else you'll have to recreate or re-obtain from the original source.

  • How to share itunes library with multiple users, and keep organised

    Hi,
I'm using iTunes (v12) on Windows 7 and am trying to set myself up so that multiple users on this PC are sharing the same library. I've followed the guidance mentioned on a couple of other threads, and put the library in the Users\Public\Music location, and on each user account have pointed iTunes to this location. This has worked OK, as both users can see all the music.
However, problems arise when User A deletes a couple of files (duplicates for example) - User B logs in, and the song is still listed in the library, but with an alert stating the original file cannot be located. They then have to go through the library and also delete these entries. Equally, if User B adds some music files (as opposed to iTunes downloads), they are not visible to User A until they "Add file to library..."
Are there any further steps that I can take to keep both users views of the library identical, without manual intervention by the second user whenever the first makes a change?
    Cheers,
    Matt

The way you've set it up each user has a distinct library, but is accessing a common set of media files and folders.  To accomplish what you want, you need to have a complete iTunes library (database + media) in a common location - typically this would be C:\Users\Public\Music\iTunes.  See turingtest2's notes on Make a split library portable for the steps that may be needed to bring your library into a suitable structure.  Based on your description, you'll need to select one user's library (C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl) to act as the shared "master" and move this to the Public folders.
Then, for each user, hold down SHIFT while starting iTunes - when you get this prompt:
click on Choose Library..., navigate to C:\Users\Public\Music\iTunes, select the iTunes Library.itl file you'll find there, and click Open (you'll only need to do this once for each user account).
Note, though, that iTunes is inherently a single-user application - any attempts to run iTunes at the same time will cause errors (and, in the worst case, possible corruption).  For this reason, its a good idea to disable fast user switching in Windows so that only one user can be logged in, and running iTunes, at the same time.

  • How to keep entire photo library on ext drive and only slideshows on laptop

I recently did an erase/install upgrade to Tiger on my g4 powerbook laptop. My previous iPhoto 4 library is safely backed up on an external drive. I would like to keep the entire library on that drive and import new photos only to that drive and edit on that drive. I would like to have a second iPhoto library on my laptop that only contains slideshows that I have created on the external drive. I received mixed opinions at the genius bar: One guy told me that I would end up with a big mess and another guy told me it would be straightforward and easy.
So this is what I think I need to do:
    1. Open iPhoto '08 on my powerbook (it wants to upgrade the library even though there is nothing currently in it. Is it OK to let it upgrade?)
    2. Open it again while holding alt/option and ask it to create a new iPhoto library on the external drive (should I name it something unique?).
    3. Drag my backed-up iPhoto library folder (its contents) into the new iPhoto library on the external drive (I imagine it will want to update them as well).
    4. When I want to move a slideshow over to my laptop, export a copy of the slideshow to a laptop desktop folder (so it sends copies only) and then move them into my laptop iPhoto library (I have no idea whether the slideshow order and settings would be preserved).
I hope my thinking is right and would appreciate any comments or suggestions?
I am concerned that when I connect my camera to my laptop, it will want to open the laptop iPhoto library and import there instead of to the external drive library. How do I get the pics from my camera to the external drive library?
    Again, thanks!

    rbfactor:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Regarding Step 3: do not import the old library into the new one. You'll get the modified files as regular files and lose your keywords, tiles, albums, slideshows, etc.
What I would do is put your full library on the external HD. Then create a new library on your PB. In the primary library create an album with the pictures you want for the sideshow. Then use the paid version of iPhoto Library Manager tocopy that album from the external HD library to your PB library. Unfortunately you cannot copy over the slideshow settings or the music used. You'll have to have your iTunes library on the PB and set the slideshow settings once your have the photos on the PB.
The alternative is to export the slideshow as a QT file and copy that to the PB and run with QT player.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Help! I keep getting the following message: the procedure entry point sqlite3_wal_checkpoint could not be located in the dynamic link library SQLite3.dll.

    Hi,
Since downloading the updated version of itunes around May this year I have had the following problems:
    1. This error message appears when my windows account launches:
the procdure entry point sqlite3_wal_checkpoint could not be located in the dynamic link library SQLite3.dll.
    2. I can't play any of the files in my itunes library. An error message appears indicating it can't find the files.
    3. When I plugged my iphone in to update it was corrupted and I have lost all 7000 + songs.
You can guess that I am not a very happy bunny with itunes at the moment!
Please, can anyone suggest how to sort this lot out.  I am aware that I've probably lost the ipod songs, but I need to get rid of the error message and be able to play the songs on from my library.  I've been without since May now and I'm wondering whether to even bother getting it sorted, but I have quite a few albums purchased on itunes that I don't want to lose!
    Thank you for your time.
    Michelle

Thank you.  I'm going to investigate saving my itunes library to the icloud and then re-trying the Stellar Phoenix recovery now the error messages have gone.  If the Stellar doesn't work then I will try the advice in your link. I really appreicate the help you've given me - at least I have my itunes library back! I'm kind of resigned to re-loading my CDs back on - something to keep my busy in the winter months!
I'll let you know how I get on, but it will probably be a few days.I'm not very technical so I have to wait for my husband to get in from work to help me with this side of things.  He's been busy working on the Olympics, so I he hasn't had much spare time for a while!

  • My iTunes library keeps disappearing!

First time I noticed my music was missing I searched everywhere and then found the library in the trash. I made a desktop folder and copied all the music and then added it back to my library. Exactly a week later I go back to my iTunes library and everything is gone again. This time the music is not in the trash. I didn't delete the folder from my desktop so the music is still there. I need to know what to do to keep my music in iTunes. Anyone having the same issue?

My library keeps disapperaing too. I read on a previous thread how to rename a recent temp file to 'iTunes Library.itl' and label the old library corrupt to solve the issue, which it did. It has now happened for the fourth time and when I try the same solution my iTunes Library.itl file doesn't show up. I shouldn't have to be doing this and want to know why it's happening?! It's so frustrating!

  • ITunes library file corrupt after updating?

Just the other day I updated to the latest iTunes software. This is the first time I've tried to use it and it keeps freezing (the swirly rainbow icon) until I eventually have to give up and force quit. My iTunes library is on an external hard drive which has admittedly been taking longer and longer to boot up each time I connect it, I don't know if this is related.
After doing some research on here I created a new test iTunes library on my hard drive and it worked perfectly, so it must be a corrupt library file? I followed the advice on an old thread and replaced the corrupt library file with an older one from December.
It worked....but here's the complication. Since that last backup in December I started using iTunes Match. When I opened the older library file, I saw that iTunes Match wasn't turned on, so I turned it on and it was saying that none of my library had been uploaded to iCloud except for iTunes purchases. I quickly exited, because frankly I couldn't bear the thought of all my library having to be uploaded to iCloud again (it took days and days...and days!). The music is still on the iCloud, but if I open that older version of my iTunes library it doesn't seem to think that it is.
Any idea what I should do?
    Thanks for your help

hmmmm. perhaps try running a chkdsk over the drive on which your iTunes library file is stored:
How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
does that find/repair any damage? if so, do you still get the same message from your itunes?

  • I cannot install itunes from the apple site .. it keeps saying the software is corrupted and cannot install correctly.. help!!!

I have tried to install the software from several sites including the apple site and they all say that the software is corrupted and did not install correctly to delete and reinstall. this seems unlikely as it has been weeks since I have been retrying the sites with the same results...is there an apple download that will check my pc for any errors that may be keeping the itunes from installing.. or is there anything else i can do to fix the issue.. its unlikely that itunes could stay corrupted for so ling without noticing it and fixing the issue..thank you...

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Itunes 12 keeps deleting all my whole library!!!

OK so I bought a new computer and installed the newest version of itunes on to it. Every time I put my old library into the itunes program, get it all organised, put audiobooks in the right place, put music into the right artist folder, put movies into the right movies area (not home videos) and I tick all the boxes in the settings section on where to add new things and to keep media folders organised I log off my computer, turn it off, all is good. I come back to it and everything and I mean like everything is gone except for a handful of recently downloaded songs and movies that are pulling in from the cloud. Very select things. Ive put all my folders of media back into itunes several times now and I just can't do it again. Its to the point im wondering if an earlier version of itunes will solve this problem just so that maybe my media will stay where I have put it.
IS there an easy fix to this or suggestions on what to do. I see that other people have had this problem with other versions of itunes. My library is mixed between purchases and my own files from older versions of media players, cds, and so on. I don't understand what is happening here. Can someone help me please? It is so frustrating, and I don't even have a choice to walk away from apple because everything but my computer is apple. and I don't think there is away to put music on to my phone or audiobooks or anything without itunes.
    Is there a solution?

I'm not certain I know what the issue is, but I would start by excluding the iTunes folder from any real-time anti-virus scanning activity.
See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash - you may well have .tmp files in your iTunes folder that represent your recent lost libraries. Perhaps you can restore one of them. You can also take a manual backup of the iTunes Library.itl file, assuming iTunes can close without dumping it.

Were you ever able to solve this problem? If so,
how? If not, did you see the same slowness copying
the files in Windows Explorer from the NAS to the
    iPod?
No I wasn't. To be honest I have essentially given up as even if I can fix it, disk space is cheaper than life is long!
Using the NAS in general is no problem. In fact, once iTunes got beyond the initial working out of what needed to be removed from and copied to the iPod, having all my MP3s on the NAS and copying direct to the iPod was no issue.
Following some sage (and frankly scary!) advice at ilounge (http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=163611), I've decided to keep two copies of my MP3s. The fact that my fiendish NAS plan has failed is hurting more than the not-all-that-traumatic reality of duplicating 140GB of files if truth be told!
