Library location issue

I've recently had to reinstall my system from the OS on up. I have my iPhoto library on an external hard drive but the re-installed version of iPhoto doesn't know where it is. How do I tell iPhoto to search for the photo library on the external drive?

Launch iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) key and use the select library option to point to the library on your external drive

  • Aperture 3 not in Media Browser - Non-Default Library Location Issue

    Hi Everyone,
My Aperture Library cannot be viewed in the media browser. I created a new Aperture library in the default location which resolved the issue; however, I have my library on an external hard drive and it is too big to put on my internal HD.
Any suggestions on how to tell iLife & iWork to look in my external HD?
    Message was edited by: ZerbyPhotography

    Hello Everybody,
Ok...I went to the Genius Bar, but to no avail. (by the way, my issue about not being able to open programs while holding alt was due to my not depressing the alt key for the required length of time. So, false alarm on that one. Oops!)
I just updated to 3.0.1. I continued to have the same issues with accessing my files through the media browser. I called tech support; and through their instructions, I was able to gain access to my library through the media browser. This seemed to be by accident, so I don't know if it was due to the update, a particular logarithm of library selection, or a combination of the two.
What I remember being the last actions were to create an alternate library, >file, >>switch to library, >>>other, select the new library, (possibly restarting Aperture), then switching back to my main library through the same selection as previous (i think...possibly by a different method).
Regardless, my library is now accessible in the media browser in iLife & iWork programs.

  • How do I stop Itunes from changing my library location

Is there just no answer to what should be a simple setting change?? No matter what I do, Itunes insists on changing my library location the instant there's any problem talking to my network share where all of my music is. This is absolutely ridiculous because this is on a laptop and there are times when the network connection is just not up yet, or whatever. Then it takes 10 minutes for me to change it back and let it figure everything out again. Has anyone ever been able to resolve this? I'd rather Itunes just return an error that tells me it can't read my library than to change it on me....

Have struggled with this issue in the past. In my experience, there is no simple, painless solution. I attempted to transfer my entire internal drive to my new external where there were copies of all the songs in place. Check to see how your library is organized on your network drive. Is it by media content (e.g. separate folders within /users/music/itunes/ folder such as Music, TV Shows, Movies, etc.)? Or are the various media types all lumped within a single iTunes Music Folder? If there is a discrepancy between your internal and external Library configurations iTunes struggles to cope. Can't say why this is  the case, but I found that the only solution was to throoughly uninstall itunes via terminal (or using an app such as 'Amnesia'), reinstalling iTunes, and creating the library from scratch using files that are located on the external/network drive. I'm a moderately savvy programmer and I couldn't for the life of me get iTunes to build my library from an XML playlist that I modified to reflect the changed directory location of the new library on  my external, but if you are more competent and patient than I am I'm convinced that the proper alteration of the Master library build would result in a seamless relocating of you media library as far as itunes is concerned. One last thing, make sure you click the 'I'll Add files myself later' option if you do choose to reinstall itunes just to cover your bases. sorry i can't give you a more helpful response--iTunes is a cruel mistress sometimes.

  • Library locations and uploads

I had to sort out my iTunes library after a restore.
Prior to this the library all resided on a Time Capsule all inside a single folder unsurprisingly called iTunes.
Since the recovery, iTues has now created three more folders alongside the iTues folder, called Podcasts, Movies and Downloads into which updated files now go rather than the folders with the same name, but inside the iTunes folder like before.
Doing a File => Library => Consolidate does not move the files back to the right place.
How do I get the downloads and movie transfers to go to the right folder other than drag/drop ?
    Thanks

Follow the steps in the article from which you posted your question, they do work.
If you are having issues, provide some information about exactly which step is giving issues.
Alternatively, if all of your media is in the existing iTunes Media folder, do the following:
    Close iTunes.
Move the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the current location to the new desired location.
    While holding <SHIFT> launch iTunes.
When prompted to created new or locate iTunes library file, point iTunes to the new location.
Go to Edit > Preferences > Advanced and change the library location to the new location.
    Close iTunes and relaunch.
    Confirm everything is working correctly.

  • ITunes Library Location and Music Default Folder

I have a fairly large music library (350 GB) and keep it on external hard drive. In the iTunes Preferences I changed my default library location to such external drive. However, from time to time I can see that my library location gets back to the default internal HD of my Mac. Once it does that the system starts slowly copying music from my external to my dafault internal HD where there is obviously not enough space for that. Is their any way to stop iTunes changing the location of my Library? Did anyone come accross this issue?
Also does anyone know how to change the location of the default Music folder to refer to my external disc? I can not find where this can be done.
    Thanks
    Ruben

If iTunes doesn't find the iTunes Music folder at startup, it will set it to the default location. iTunes does so, because it has to know a location where to store imported music.
To prevent this, always connect your ext. HD before running iTunes.
You can make it somehow failsafe by using the method I described here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=318759
It's not an elegant solution, because it will give an error and iTunes won't run.
At least it doesn't reset the 'iTunes Music folder' location and you are reminded to connect your ext. HD.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't change itunes library location to external hard drive

I did have my itunes library location set to an external disk (my time capsule) and this worked great with my macbook pro. However, the macbook pro "died" last week and now I'm trying to set my new replacement imac itunes library to also be the external hard drive.
The advance tab on itunes preferences indicates that library location is set as requested however, I can't see any of my music in my itunes window.
I could of course just copy my music on to my new computer but that'll take ages and I'd rather keep it on the time capsule.
    Many thanks
    Anna

So the additional step  need to do was make sure the copy files to itunes media folder is unchecked and the go to itunes>files>add to library then select my itunes music folder in my itunes location on the time capsule. Done!

  • Adobe Reader X save location issue

Hi All, i would like to seek expert helps on Adobe Reader save location issues. After we upgrade from Adobe Reader 9 to Adobe Reader X.
There are changes on how save location works in Adobe Reader X
If save PDF via Internet Explorer – the save location will according to last save location, HOWEVER
If save PDF via Adobe Reader X – the save location will set according to location the file is being open
Let me show you what i mean over the pictures
I open a reader_X_help.pdf using Adobe Reader X and then save the file using Ctrl+Shift+S at: C:\Users\xxxx\Documents\My last location save
    refer my last save location.jpg
Now i want to save another new file back to C:\Users\xxxx\Documents\My last location save, I open the file Adobe file2.pdf located at desktop and when i do Ctrl+Shift+S, the location point to my desktop and not C:\Users\xxxx\Documents\My last location save
refer my last save location change to desktop.jpg
I have tested this features in Adobe Reader 9 and it's different whereby it's will point according to my last location save.
There is no issue with computer as i have 3 machine running different enviroment, Windows XP SP3, Windows 7 Enterprise, and all using same version of Adobe Reader X version 10.0.1.
    So my questions & concern:
Is there any way to change the save location features same as Adobe Reader 9?
If YES, how to do it? By Computer Changes or Adobe Reader X packages modification using Adobe Customization tools?
If NO, Where can i find this source of documentation stated about this new changes so i can publish this information in HP website as new design changes to avoid complaint or negative feedback.
Looking forward for expert reply as soon.
Thank you very much and Have a great day.

    Solved it!
    1-go to "edit", select Preferences.
2-select from the left pane: Security (enhanced)
3-click on "add folder path" button just below the big white box
4-pick a folder of your choice and click "ok". (your selected folder path will appear in that white box above the "add folder path" button in step 3)
5-if you want to add additional folders, just repeat steps 3 & 4
6-once you are done, click "ok" on the preferences screen and click "ok" again to accept the changes.
Yes, it seems illogical, but it worked.
I tested by closing the Reader (X), then surfed the web and did what Neher5 was explaining he/she wanted to do just after opening a pdf from a website and lo-and-behold,  it worked!. No more "save to temp folder" issues.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to add Software Library Location in OEM 11g to facilitate patching.

    Hi,
I'd like to use patching deployment to patch a gold copy oracle home, that is not being actively used.
I'm tryingt to configure the deployment setup and on the screen where it says.
    Information
You are adding a Software Library location for the first time. Provisioning Archive (PAR) files in the directories $OMS_ORACLE_HOME/sysman/prov/paf and $OMS_ORACLE_HOME/sysman/admin/deploymentprocedures will be uploaded.
Add a new Software Library by specifying directory location. In case of multiple Oracle Management Service (OMS) setup, specify normal preferred credentials for each host running OMS.
         * Software Library Directory Location
    when I enter a location , e.g
    /oracleinstall/software/oemsoftwarelib
    whos persmissions are as follows
    drwx------ 2 oracle oinstall 4096 Feb 23 12:25 oemsoftwarelib
I get just get the following
Internal Error has occurred. Check the log file for details.
does anybody know what the problem might be and which log exactly to look in?
    thanks

    Hi,
You should look at OMS log/trace files in the .../gc_inst/em/EMGC_OMS<n>/sysman/log directory to get clues on the error.
Check Support Note 1156825.1, which documents a similar symptom.
Note that in a multi-OMS environment, the software library location must be readable and writable from all OMS hosts.

  • IPhoto library mapping issues on home network

    Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have my iPhoto 8 library stored on PowerMac G4 that acts as media server for the house. Each Mac automatically mounts the media drive when the appropriate user logs in and each copy of iPhoto has been 'mapped' to the iPhoto library located on the media server.
The problem - occasionally, and I can not figure what causes it - but when my wife logs in and opens iPhoto, she gets the good old "Please select the library or create a new one" window. Bless her heart, I've tried to explain how to 'remap' the library - but it's just....well, lets just say I have failed in my communications and explanations.
So - why does this library mapping 'unmap' and how can I force it to stay 'mapped'??? I've tried several Automator actions and even tried the Record function - no dice.
Any ideas would be much appreciated because she's on the verge of firing the home network administrator which equates to a reduced IT budget in the future.
    Thanks for your time!
    jc

    John:
Are all the Macs using the same library? Is this a wireless network or hard wired?
The library can get unmapped if iPhoto is launched with the server not mounted and accessible.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Changed library location

I'd like to start by saying that finding an answer to a simple question, something that should have been intuitive and simple to figure out, is, and always has been a struggle here at Apple.com.
My question: I have moved to a new location and no longer have a desktop computer with attached storage for my libraries (that was a Win 7 machine). I am now using network attached storage for my libraries and files, the same structure (basically copies) as before except NAS now.
Every file in itunes points to the old desktop computer, how do I clear all references to that computer? I have changed the library location in preferences to point  to the new volume.
I'm tired of searching and going around in circles for something that should have been in the application help file.
When I get this figured out will I have to spend days removing duplicates?
I have a large music library, years ago when I bought new drives I went through this and it took nearly 2 days for iTunes to go through the entire library. And yep, I've now forgot how to do it. It took days on the internet to figure that one out as I recall too.
    Please help!

  • Moved media to TC. Now itunes keeps changing default library location

I realize this might be better suited in the iTunes discussion forum however...
I recently purchased a time capsule and moved all my media to the new drive. I changed the default library location in preferences. Problem is, every time I quit and relaunch iTunes, the default library location reverts back to my old location on my mac. Any ideas how I can get iTunes to remember my new default location? It's as if it's picking up a location file somewhere that is telling it to create a new library on my mac's hard drive.
    Thanks for any input.

I don't have a TC but I also keep my iTunes library on an external Firewire drive and the following is the behaviour. Maybe it's so for you too:
    • When the firewire drive is mounted on the desktop and I open iTunes, iTunes will link back to the library on the firewire drive.
    • When the firewire drive is unmounted and I open iTunes, iTunes preferences will revert the library to default back to the internet drive.
    • BUT, when I remount the firewire drive, and open iTunes again (after it's been closed), iTunes preferences will automatically go back to linking the library on the firewire drive.
So in short: when unmounted, iTunes links music library to the original default which is the internal drive. When mounted, iTunes will automatically relink music back to the firewire drive.
Does it work like so for iTunes on Time Capsule?

  • IPhoto library Location Question

Hello Apple Discussion wizards, though this is my first post, i've used this forum extensively and you have all helped me with many problems.
Anyway, old macbook was killed by humidity, currently on new imac.
old iphoto library was recovered and loaded to an external. my new iphoto library had around 300 pics, old one had around 12000, all organized by albums and such, so naturally i wanted to move the new iphoto library photos into my old one, and make my old library the default on my new computer.
essentially, i dragged the files from my old iphoto onto the desktop, held option while i opened iphoto, seleected the old library, then dragged the 300 pics into it.
now, currently iphoto opens with all my pics. the library location is
    /Users/claycohen/Pictures/iPhotoLibrary1
everything seems cool, but im worried about the location/permissions of the library
for example, if i go to change my desktop photo in system prefs, when i browse finder, my iPhotoLibrary1 is greyed out and cant be selected.
    MAIN QUESTION:
Is there a way to reset my current library to factory location and settings but keep all my albums/photos etc?
thanks for your help everyone, if that didn't make sense i can try to re explain. to quote thom yorke - i just want "everything in its right place"

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair Library permissions.
    Regards

  • Why does my library location keep changing?

I kep my iTunes library on a separate internal HD. It's the ONLY thing on that drive.
    TUNES: iTunes/iTunesMusic
But a few months ago, iTunes started "magically" making folders, and importing songs one level PREVIOUS on that drive:
    TUNES: iTunes
Weird. But not the biggest deal in the world.
So today I noticed that my StartUp HD was gaining weight, and after some investigation I realized iTunes has "secretly" switched my library location again!
    MacintoshHD/Users/MacPro/Music/iTunes/iTunesMusic
And, the weird thing is, ALL my songs play! They're all distributed in these 3 locations, and I had ZERO grey "!"s.
    Why is iTunes doing this!?
And since iTunes doesn't like the library being moved around very much, I'm reluctant to change anything.
    GRrrrrrrr...
    Any ideas?

I'm on here too looking for a solution to this problem, as after months of sourcing my library from it's new location on an external hard drive, my itunes now looks in the default location.
One thing that might have happened is that on one occasion, you may have accessed itunes whilst your external drive was off. If this has happened, then itunes will automatically revert to the default library location.
If this hasn't happened, try the following link:

  • Callmanager Conferencing with remote locations Issue

I am new to using callmanager, and I need a little help.
I have created a meet me number on my callmanager. Once a session is begun, all local network users are able to join the conference call with no problems..
If a remote location hosts a meet me call, all my local network users are able to join THAT session with no problems as well.
But if I host a meet me session on MY local network, remote locations CANNOT reach my session. The line remains silent when they dial in.
I've been told to check the codecs which seem fine and we are checking for a firewall issue, but all normal calls local and remote work just fine. It's only the conference bridging that causes issues.
    Please help.
    Thanks

    Hello,
Thank you very much for replying.
The configurations, I've been told, are correct. G711 for intrasite and G729 for intersite. And region and device pools correct as well.
I presented the HW conf bridge solution to a coworker who said it makes sense, but at this time, I don't have access to a hardware conference bridge. Is this the only solution?

    hi,
please check the following on the call manager,
    -  Check the region configuration on each device pool.
    -  Then check the region configuration between the two regions.
    -  One of the best practices followed by Cisco is, the intrasite region settings should be g711.
    -  And the region settings between inter site should be g729.
    -  G729 is not supported by software conference bridge, it is only supported by hardware conference bridge.
    -  So add the hardware conference bridge to the MRGL of the phone.
    -  And the hardware conference bridge has to be first in the list, that is before the software conference bridge.
please let me know if this helps or we can do further trouble shooting on this issue.

  • Why does my Music Library Location Keep Reverting to Unwanted Location?

I recently switched from PC to Mac. My music library is now located on an external HD connected to my Airport Extreme Base Station.
I've noticed that at random times the location of my music library changes from the external HD to my iTunes Music folder located on my C: drive. I reset the location back to the external HD, I'm prompted to move the files etc. and all is well for a while.
Keeping an eye on the music library location in the configuration settings, I'll notice the location will switch back to the C: drive for what seems to be no apparent reason. I have all the settings checked regarding Keep Music folder organized, Copy files to iTunes Music folder etc.
The only thing I've done out of the ordinary recently was point my music library path to a DIFFERENT HD. I have an exact copy of my entire music library on a second HD which I use when I go out of town and can not access my primary music library. When I got home I pointed the library path back to my original HD.
It works fine for a day or so, but as I mentioned, it seems to randomly switch to my C: drive. Does anyone have any thoughts on what I'm doing, or did, that is causing this?
    Thanks !

No worries. It's just sometimes people don't say what they mean or mean what they think they mean and it can slow down the process. Of course, sometimes I just don't read what people actually wrote.
I keep my external hard drive connected via the Airport Extreme Base Station, and always keep it connected ( in other words, I see it in the Finder SideBar, and it always says connected ).
Hmm. That should mean it's "mounted". However, I do have some vague recollection that using an Airport disk was problematic. However, the articles I read on that were back when the Airport Extreme first debuted. I'm not as conversant with using Airport disks as I just use an external USB drive connected to my MacBook. Sorry I don't have more wisdom...
