Library no longer found?

All of a sudden my entire music library of 18,517 songs (85GB) cannot be found even my Options clearly point to the folder where all of the songs are saved.  The songs are still there, my iTunes pages has all the right enties, but they all have the little exclamation point indicating file not found.
Under options I tried switching to another folder and back to the good one and it seems it has "lost the key" to where everything is saved.
I am bit leery of rebuilding my entire iTunes database since many have CD covers I had to manually save and link in.
Ideas?
Thanks upfront.

Gregory
if its going to corrupt your library why not some warning.
If they thought it would corrupt your library then they'd hardly have released it now would they?
Of course before any update, you backed up right?
Try these in order - from best option on down...
1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums back.
3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Updated iPhoto '08 and library no longer found, all events gone

I just updated iphoto '08 via update manager. Now it can't find my library. When I navigate to the folder of photos, it refuses to accept it, and when I do an import, I lose all my events and get a mass of 12,000 photos completely unorganized? Why does Apple do this? Its an incremental update - if its going to corrupt your library why not some warning.

  • Your photo library was not found. Do you want to find your iPhoto Library?

Your photo library was not found. Do you want to find your iPhoto Library?
Do you want to create or find?
This is the message I get when I try to open iphoto.
    1. this is the first time since I've used iphoto that this has happened.
    2. I would like to know why.
    3. I am not sure which choice to make.
    4. recent changes involving photos would be deleting several photos....I used a program called Grand Perspective and began to delete photos from there
    5. although I'm interested in fixing this problem, I would like to learn more about 'libraries' and the way iphoto works. Previous to owning a Mac, I used Picasa with my pc and I don't remember it using as much space on my hard drive. iphoto has a large number of duplicated photos of which I've been unable to resolve easily and it is approx. 60 G of space. I would like to have access to my images (30,000) through external hard drives but not necessarily have them all on my mac. I believe that is what Picasa does. I'm using the new Picasa for Mac but want to continue to use iphoto as well.
If I did not form this question well enough, please let me know how to clarify. I'm trying to remedy this while answering a million Why? why? Why? questions from my 4 year old!
    Thank you.
    iphoto 7.1.5

I would like to learn more about 'libraries'
Step one is to learn about iPhoto - it is not a photo viewer like Picasa - it is a photo manager and uses an SQL database - the content and structure of this database are critical (as with any database application) to the operation of iPhoto - any changes made to either the content or structure of the database using external programs including (especially) the finder can corrupt the database and cause you to lose data
recent changes involving photos would be deleting several photos....I used a program called Grand Perspective and began to delete photos from there
This is how you destroyed your iPhoto library and made it unusable
As to space - the iPhoto database contains at a minimum a copy of the original photo (in the default and recommended operating environment) and a small thumbnail. When any modification to the photo is made a modified version is created so there might be three versions (no duplicates) of a photo within the iPhoto library - none of them are extraneous and none of them can be removed without corrupting the iPhoto library
Once a photo is imported into iPhoto (assuming default settings which are strongly recommended) the original source photo outside of iPhoto can be archived, deleted or otherwise handles - iPhoto has no further need for it.
The iPhoto library can be located on an external hard drive so long as that hard drive is always available when iPhoto is running
In general it is not advised to run two different photo organizers against the same photos - so if you use both Picasa and iPhoto you are likely to create future problems (although Google claims it is possible - just remember that you can not successfully make any change of any sort to any photo with the iPhoto library using Picasa or any other program - if you only use Picasa to look at photos you may be ok - if you never make any mistakes
As to your immediate problem - you have destroyed you iPhoto library by deleting files from it. If you want to use iPhoto you will have to start over - find the originals folder within the iPhoto library and launch iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) key and create a new library - import the photos from the originals folder into iPhoto and do not go inside the iPhoto library or modify the contents of the iPhoto library in the future.

  • I*sqlplus: Internal error (no valid library could be found)

    Hello
I have installed Oracle 8.1.7 on Windows NT
and Oracle 8.1.7 on Sun Sparc Solaris.
On Windows NT, I have installed i*sqlplus.
    However, when connecting from browser
    in the index file
    I've given a valid username/password of
a database in Oracle 8.1.7 on Sun Sparc
and a connect string to the database
on Oracle 8.1.7 on Sun Sparc.
This connect string is created using
Net 8 assistant and this connect string
is on the Windows NT with Oracle 8.1.7.
    However, instead of connecting I
    am getting the error
Internal error : (no valid library could be found)
    Can you please help me?
    Thanks

    Cyril,
Can you connect to the database using the command line version of SQL*Plus? If so, you're using the correct syntax.
It sounds like iSQL*Plus is not set up correctly. Do you have the necessary 8.1.7 components on the NT machine (Oracle HTTP Server, Net8, SQL*Plus)?
Review the installation documentation, and/or post more specific information on your set up.

  • ISQL*Plus: Internal error (no valid library could be found)

I install iSQL*PLUS on middle tier (9i AS 1.0.2.1) according to documentation, when I trying to connect I am getting Internal error (no valid library could be found). The TNSNAMES.ORA file is correct.
Any suggestions will be highly appreciated.

My first suggestion is to use the HTTP listener on the RDBMS bundle. This is what iSQL*Plus 8.1.7 Beta was built for.
The HTTP servers on the iAS and Database releases require mods to be compiled differently.

  • "No tag library could be found with this URI" error while compiling jsp

    I am using WebLogic Server 9.2 MP1, JDK 1.5.0_09, Struts 1.3.5
I am pre-compiling jsp pages with wlappc ant task. However, I got following errors when a jsp page contains ant taglib:
No tag library could be found with this URI. Possible causes could be that the URI is incorrect, or that there were errors during parsing of the .tld file.
              The jsp page looks like:
              <%@ taglib uri="http://struts.apache.org/tags-html" prefix="html" %>
wlappc complains taglib could not be retrieved from this uri. Actually, since Struts 1.3.5, those ".tld" files are contained in strust-taglib-1.3.5.jar, folder META-INF/tld/. And I don't need to set anything in web.xml <tag-lib> tab anymore.
All the jsp pages can be successfully compiled while being deployed to Server. So what am I missing? My build.xml file looks like:
                   <target name="compile-jsp">
                        <wlappc source="${src.dir}" output="${out.dir}"
                             keepgenerated="true" optimize="true" classpathref="wl_classpath"/>
                   </target>
where "wl_classpath" contains all the struts related jar files, e.g. struts-core-1.3.5.jar, struts-taglib-1.3.5.jar, ...., and weblogic related jars, e.g. weblogic.jar.....
I checked "beehive" samples coming with weblogic92, and found it pretty much did the same thing regarding build script and jsp files. So I am totally lost!
Please help me out. Many thanks.
Edited by jqian at 02/02/2007 10:24 AM

Yes sorry, you're correct. The uri I mentioned is just 1.0.
Do you have the "Oracle WebLogic Web App Extension" Facet for your web project? If not, try adding that and making sure that there is a weblogic.xml file created in the WEB-INF dir. The weblogic.xml file allows you to deploy usig a shared lib for JSTL. It should contain a library-ref element something like the following, with a version of 1.1.
    <wls:library-ref>
    <wls:library-name>jstl</wls:library-name>
    <wls:specification-version>1.1</wls:specification-version>
    <wls:exact-match>true</wls:exact-match>
    </wls:library-ref>

  • Shared Library no Longer Working Properly

I have my iTunes library on my mac. For some time (well over a year) I have been sharing my iTunes library on my network, with 2 windows XP machine. This used to work perfectly but now (I think after the 7.7 update) it only works for a few minutes, and then loses the connection. My iTunes library no longer shows up in the iTunes of either Windows XP machines after a few minutes. the only way to get it back is to reboot the Mac (withthe full library on it) - but even then it only works briefly before disappearing again. I do not want to have to copy everything over to my PC (I use a lot of lossless files and the library is quite large), and the sharing used to be great, but is now pretty much useless. Any suggestions? I have repaired permissions, run Onyx and diskwarrior and disk utility to no avail. Please don't just blame the PCs - this was all perfectly fine until very recently. Thanks,
    ScottieB

    Hey Scottie,
Do you have firewall software running on the PC's and Mac?
Do you see the same issue with the firewalls disabled?
This article will show you howto enable iTunes in the Windows XP firewall.

  • Why is my library no longer accessable on my iphone g3?  It used to be there.

Why is my library no longer accessable on my iphone g3?  It used to be there.  Now I've got a partially list of audiobooks, (why aren't all of them there?) and NONE of the music or videos that are in my itunes folder on my computer.  What happened and how do I reload?  Regular syncing does nothing, nor can I drag files to the phone from the computer.  Thank you!

Called in and discovered I needed to adjust sync settings after loading Mavericks last year.  (Rarely use my phone for music, hence not noticing til now.)  Did that on my laptop in the iTunes library using the iphone button that shows when it's connected to the phone.  Works perfectly now.  Thanks so much for your suggestion!

  • My iTunes library no longer matches the music on my iPhone.

My iTunes library no longer matches the music on my iPhone.  How can I sync the music and playlists from my phone onto iTunes without iTunes completely wiping all the music on my iPhone? I'm also afraid I'll lose any newer music.

Plug the device into your computer, open iTunes and sync it.
Why would you be afraid you will lose your new music?
Ideally you should be connecting your device to your computer to transfer purchases made on the device to the computer and the iTunes library on a regular basis.  Failure to do this puts you at risk of losing those purchases (and the money you spent on them) in the event your device fails, is lost, or stolen.

  • My search bar for my library no longer works. Also, the menu bar is no longer visible. Noticed this problem last Saturday. Can anyone help me with this?

My search bar for my iTunes library no longer works. Also, the menu bar is no longer visible. Noticed this problem last Saturday. This might be an issue with my desktop, and not iTunes itself Can anyone help me with this?

Press Ctrl-B to toggle the menu bar on and off.
When you say that the "search bar for my iTunes library no longer works" can you be more specific?  The operation of the search function has changed in iTunes 12, essentially having two very distinct modes:
when Search Entire Library is checked, entering a search string will generate a dropdown of all matching items within your whole library, from which multiple operations are available via context menus
when Search Entire Library is unchecked, entering a search string creates a filtered view of whatever your current focus is (e.g., if you're looking at a playlist the filter applies only to items in that playlist) with none of the dropdown options as in the first case

  • Most of my library 'cannot be found'-how do I get it back?!?

I haven't found any solutions to this problem. I downloaded the new itunes 9 and everything is fine except one big problem. Over half of my music library cannot be found. There's a little exclaimation point beside the songs and when I double click on them it says the origional file cannot be found and it can't be located. I've searched and searched my computer and the lost songs aren't there. It's not just a certain type of song file either. They're recently bought songs and ones I bought several years ago. Some are downloaded from cds and others are from the itunes store. I'm desperate for answers and I really don't want to buy all of these songs again. Also when I plug in my nano 4th generation with all of the songs on it, I can play them perfectly but I can't add them to my library. I've also never backed up my library, but from now on I'm deffinately going to. Please help!

All the information including exact wording of messages is very helpful if you have it.
Usually you can not transfer purchases from iPod to computer because the iTunes account was not authorized on the computer you are transferring to. iTunes->Store->Authorize Computer
Look at the song title that will not transfer. Go lookup your iTunes account purchase history. Is the song listed? If not then you did not purchase with that account and you need to find the one it was purchased with.
