Library not opening

Hi, please help!
I opened up a song in iTunes this evening and all of a sudden it asks me to choose my library, completely out of the blue. I made the error of choosing the wrong one, an old one, and now I can't get back to the correct library! I think I've found it in Finder (i've deleted the old one now) but it's not opening; it just switches to iTunes and does bugger all. How do I get it back? Have I lost my library forever?
Thanks,
Ian

Sorry, what I've done so far is basically as described in my first email, with the addition of rebuilding using the feature within iPhoto and using iPhoto Library Manager.  I have two separate iPhoto Libraries, and the exact same problem is happening for both.
It looks like my problem is similar to what the guy on this thread is dealing with:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2642315?threadID=2642315&tstart=0
I am in the same boat as Big McAl.  I seem to be missing some data files in the library.  This is the case for both of my original libraries, and the rebuilt version (only bothered to rebuild one of them).

I suggest downloading Digital Rebellion's Preference Manager and using it to delete your preferences.
If that doesn't solve the crashes, create a test library by holding down the option key when you launch FCP X and see whether it is possible to work normally in that library.

  • Photo library not opening in iPhoto any longer

    Hello,
I was in my iPhoto software today importing new photos but all of the sudden my iPhoto said that it could not access my library any longer. So I tried to repair the permissions but it did not work at all. I can see my library is like 220 GB big so there is definitely something in it but it will just not open itself.
Please help if you have any idea as I do not have these pictures anywhere else and I would hate to loose like 65,000 pics because of this. I had a similar issue with iTunes and it took me like 3 days to fix as I had to recreate all my playlists and reimport each song in each playlists. Such a hassle. I sure hope this will not happen to me.
    Thanks in advance.

    what version of iPhoto?
as to losing photos - do you have a backup ? If you do then you are safe - if you do not then you are 100% guaranteed to lose your photos and everything else sooner or later - things fail and with no backup you lose things when failures occur
what changed just before this occurred? Why can't you access your library? What does happen? What messages do you get?

  • Aperture 3 Library not opening (permissions)

I purchased Aperture 3. the hard drive that library was on crashed, so i'm using the back up hard drive that contains the back up Aperture library. but aperture says
"Aperture cannot access this library" to use this library, make sure its file permissions are set correctly.
I went into the "info" and set the library to be read and write for me, and administrator, but still i cannot open the backed up library. what else can i do to set permissions, or to get my pictures open?

    WhatsupDoc wrote:
the back up was made by a program synchronize pro X.
I'm not familiar with that program. Did it just copy the Aperture library to the backup disk? Is there some program you need to run to get things out of the backup? Or is it just a copy?
Pretty much if Aperture has R/W access to the library name at the top level you should be able to at least get the library first aid window up.
You mentioned you hadn't run the library first aid before, are you sure you had both the Option and Command keys down at the same time and held until Aperture totally started?
You said you were able to start Aperture and create a new library holding down the Option key. Did you make the new library in the exact same folder as the library you are having trouble with? If so you might want to open the Info window on both Libraries at the same time and compare them line by line just to make sure we're not overlooking something stupid.
it was made on a LCie 2TB hard drive that still has 850GB left. the Aperture library is aboiut 45GB in >size. connection via firewire. i didnt put it on my own computer hard drive because it was so large.
Finally as you have room on the LCie you could try makin a new Folder at the top level and copying the library there and then try to open it.
    good luck, post back

  • Application library/dimension library not opening in EPM 11.1.2.1

    Hi,
Ive installed essbase and planning 11.1.2.1 64 bit on windows xp 64 bit machine. Installed all the components as specified in the instalation documentation. But EPMA server doesnt start.
I was able to log in to workspace and create an application, but application library failed to open. Also dimension library. Is it got something to do with EPMA server.
How to start this server, any additional components to be installed? apart from the regural components to be installed for planning.
    Thanks

I would stick with a supported OS. Windows Server 2003/2008 are generally your best bet for avoiding headaches.
You might check the Windows Event Viewer for additional information on your error if you choose to continue down the unsupported path.
    Thanks

  • Library not opening in iPhoto '11

I recently "upgraded" to iPhoto '11, but when I tried to open my library, it gave me an error message.  Sorry I don't have the quote of the exact message, but it was something to the effect of "I can't read this old library, but I can upgrade it for ya" and then it tried to upgrade it, but it told me "no, actually this library is broken, I can't upgrade a broken library".
So I then "downgraded" back to iPhoto '09 via Time Machine, and it still wouldn't open.  But when I restored the library from a day-old version via Time Machine its back to working fine.
I was reading some older discussion here from folks with similar problems, and it looks like I might be missing some data files?  If so, how do I fix it?

    Well I'll guess you're using iPhoto 11:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

Help, I had aperture open and working on a image and did not have a battery in and bumped the power off. As a result it will not open my master, it is locked. when I try to open that Library  it says There was an error opening the database for the library. I have tried every thing. I updated the other libr but now it will not open the main to update. What do I do?

Try starting Aperture with the command and option keys held down.  You'll get 3 options.
Try each, starting at the top, in order, checking after each to see if it fixes the issue.

  • I was trying to move iphoto library to my external hardrive, realised it was incompatible with Mac.  The iphoto will not open now, message is "Iphoto library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable".  I have read other posts.

    Hi,
I was trying to save a copy of my iphoto library by copying images to my external harddrive.  I wasn't sure how to do it, realised the hard drive is not compatible. Now the iphoto library wont open and reads "iphoto library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable".
I have tried to use options command and click on iphoto then rebuild yet nothing happens and same error message occurs.
I have gone to  my personal drive, desktop, iphoto library, and found file Albumdata.xml and when i click on it, there is a lot of text in it, i am assuming these are all my photos.
I have tried clicking and dragging this file to iphoto app and it doesn't work, as the same error comes up in iphoto being in use or unreadable....
What am I meant to do with albumdata.xml file and how do I reopen Iphoto from here on in?
Please help as I am not technically minded and still trying to understand how to use the Macbook at all as I am used to Microsoft.
    Thank you very much,
    KS

Rule Number One - NEVER go directly uinto the iPhoto library - there are no user servicable parts in it and making any change no matter how small can corrupt your library and cause data or photo loss
Exactly how were you trying to save a copy of your iPhoto library?
Albumdata.xml does not contain your photos - and again NEVER make any changes to the content of the iPhoto library - no dragging - no changes - never go into the library
We need to know exactly what you did
And probalby the easiest solution is to load your backup from before you messed things up
For reference after you get things working
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

  • Itunes Library will not open!!!!!    itunes Library will not open!!!!!

    Hello,
This is very frustrating that hundreds of people view these questions and only a few people answer. The issue here is that my itunes Library will not open. I'd sure like to know what is causing this and if it's gone forever.
    WinXP. Pro.
I have many Mp3 music files under the same playlist names as in my ipod, i:e: Country,Jazz,Blues,Classic Rock, Alternative, vocal, light sounds, etc. When I drag new mp3 music files into my ipod library, then sync to my ipod, Itunes makes a backup of itune music files in their folder..I think. Anyway, those mp3 muic files are still on the Hard drive, but I can not open up my itunes Library. is it Gone????
Sooooooooooooooo...I was slap-happy in upgrading my itunes software for my 80GB fith gen ipod for the kick of it. I downloaded the new updates.then tried to open my itunes library and it wouldn't open...I hooked up my Ipod thinking that may help open up the Library, but nothing.
I tried the system restore, nothing. I uninstalled itunes, then reinstalled the itunes/quicktime download from apple. I clicked on the itunes icon on the desktop a few times and then a few times more, nothing. I guess I'm missing the itunes.ink file to open this up. regardless, I went to the Windows/Start/programs/itunes...nothing again. Windows Explorer/C:/ program files/itunes...nothing.
I was afraid when I uninstalled the itunes software from before,it would erase the itunes Library, but the music is still on my hard drive,I just can't open the itunes Library. At this point,I should buy an external hard drive and transfer all my Mp3 files and the itunes music files/podcasts/photos,wipe the hard drive, reinstall the O.S. and start all over again.
I'm guessing I am out of options with this itune Libray. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jim

Still unanswered. I'm still trying to install itunes so I could use the library. I am removing Mp3 files from my hard drive to free up space,so if I ever do get the itunes setup,I'll have to remove the SYNC and do the manual so I ONLY transfer Podcasts into the ipod and not lose them becuase of the unchecked boxes.
Ok, I uninstalled EVERYTHING that has to do with Itunes/ipod from the computer..Add/remove programs, serch all files/folders,Windows Explorer,Start>All programs, the Itune reference. Turned off all my Firewall, spyware, and anti-virus,,downloaded the new 7.5 version Itunes/ipod...saved to desktop, installed the new software...then NADA! NOTHING! I can click on the shortcut desktop icon, and all the other ways to click the software open, but nothing. peole on other sites reccomend Tag and rename and use the Winamp media Library, because of all the lack of personal customer support APPLE lacks. I guess I was a Big FOOL to spend my hard earned $350.00 for this ipod.

  • I can not open my Aperture or Iphoto library

    Hello everyone,
I have the application Aperture where I edit pictures and can not seem to open it today when I try the message "To open this iPhoto library in Aperture, it first needs to be upgraded.Verify that you have iPhoto 9.4 or later. Then open the library in iPhoto to upgrade it." I upgraded Iphoto and then tryed to open Aperture while Iphoto was closed and I got the same message. Then I tried to open the Iphoto library and now the message "Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable.Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed. You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup. Aperture was not open at the time so I shut down then restarted my computer. The same Message Appered. Then I tried to rebuild the library by holding down the option and command key I tried all of the rebuilding options and when I went to rebuild it the same message opened in iphoto. Help me! I am a photographer with a website and need to get this up and running fast. I wanted to cunsult with Apple Support Communities before I make the trip out to the apple store.

Also when I went to finder to see it the library existed its now labled Iphoto library copy. I have a time capsule and restored it back by a day and it didn't work I still got the same message in aperture and Iphoto.

    Hi All,
We have SharePoint Production server 2013 where users are complaining that they are not able to copy or move files from one document library to another document library using “Open with Explorer” functionality.

    Hi John and all,
One the newly created web applications that we created few days back and navigated to document library, clicked on “Open with Explorer”, we get this error.
We're having a problem opening this location in file explorer. Add this website to your trusted and try again.
We added to the trusted site in Internet Explorer for this web application, cleared the cache and open the site with same document library but still get the same above error.
However, another existing web application (In same the Farm) that we are troubleshooting at the moment, we are able click on “Open with Explorer”,  login in credentials opens and we entered the details we are able to open the document
library and tried to follow these steps:
From Windows Explorer (using with Open with Explorer), tried to copy or move a files to
    source document library.
From Windows Explorer moved this file to another destination document library and we got this error.
What we have to achieve is users should be able to copy files and folders using
Open with Explorer functionality. We don’t know why Open with Explorer
functionality not work working for our environment.
    Are we doing something wrong?
We have referred to following websites.
we hope concepts of copying / Moving files are similar as SharePoint 2010. Our production environment is SharePoint 2013.
