Library on external HD keeps moving back to default!

I followed the instructions on how to move my library and, without any problem whatsoever, I moved it to my external hard disk. As needed, I "reset" the program and worked on some pics and all was fine.
I shut the program down (for good) and the next time I opened it : nothing! An all new library with no pics in it! I was damm scared!
But, phew, as soon as I did the steps to moving it again, they were all there... The preference setting had simply been, pfff, forgotten, or it had, pfff, disappeared!
Instead of being set as "library" in my external drive, it had came back to the default, internal drive, library (where, of course, I have nothing!).
So, I set it right again, and, yay, I had pics again! Did some work, again, and didn't want to shut it off... But I had to.
And it happened again!
And again!
What I really can't get is, how can the preference setting can be lost when I close the program (or computer), since I already need to close the program for the change to take effect in the first place?! It's beyond me!
I searched everywhere, but can't find any clue as to what is happening. And I don't seem to have done it wrong either...
I'm not moving anything, and there is no other way I can think of to set the path to my library, which is ALREADY on that external hard disk...
Will I need to move all my pics on my internal hard drive (not sure I even have the space!) and move them back again?! Not sure it would help anyways...
Please, help me! I'm tired of setting this up again and again, and worry that one time I'll really lose everything... (I don't have the space to backup everything nor the money yet to buy the space...)
Thanks a bunch!

Hi and thanks to all,
Because of other problems, I'll just need to move all my library back to my internal hard drive (luckily I have the space, for now at least... Just hope it won't take eternity to move it back), and then will re-format the external hard drive and try a simple backup of Aperture files instead to see if that was one problem, try tryout copyes of lightroom and iView to see if Aperture was the problem too or if I simply like one better... and maybe I'll get a result out of all this work I didn't need.
Oh, I'll also put 1 more Gb of RAM in my iMac, which I had bought for my macbook.
All this because Aperture blew.
Thanks anyway!

  • Web pages keep moving back and forth

Having just bought a IMAC can anybody tell me how to stop my web pages from moving back and forth before it decides to settle.

    Hi...
Sounds like you are moving your finger sideways over the mouse.... ?
That function enables you to move back and forward in your browsing history.

  • Power Options Settings keep resetting back to default and system goes to sleep.

Hi I have Windows Server 2012 Standard R2 installed on one of my servers, in which there is an issue with the power settings. In power options it keeps selecting the Balanced plan by default. Even if I manually change the power plan it still keeps resetting
back to the default Balanced plan which in turn puts the System to sleep after 4 hours. Please let me know if there is a way to resolve this issue. I have even tried using powercfg -SETACTIVE from command prompt by giving the appropriate Power Scheme
GUID. But it didn't work either. Anyone please help me with this issue. Thanks in advance.

Again, this is something outside the bounds of Windows Server.  Windows Server does not do that.  I looked at default installations of both physical and virtual servers and there is nothing there to cause a sleep or power off.
In fact, the only real power setting I see in the Balanced power plan is to turn off the display after x amount of time.
Do you have power savings enabled on your NIC card?  Is there some setting in VMware?

i wish the panel on the left can stay effectsControls and media browswer...

  • Now got iTunes library on external drive, will TM back it up?

    Hi
I've just moved my iTunes library from my internal HDD on my Mac to a portable USB powered HDD as it was taking up to much room.
I use TM with another desktop external drive that I plug in. Will TM backup the portable USB drive with iTunes on?
do I need to do anything to do this?
Can I also add other stuff to the portable drive and TM will backup this to?
The portable drive is formatted as Mac OS Journaled
    cheers

Ah ok so everytime I now add something to the portable drive I will have to specifically tell TM not to back it up, as it will do all of drive if not.
    correct.
So the older iTunes library that was on my internal iMac HDD, will I dump this now? is it a case of going into a finder window, going to home/user/Music/iTunes and right clicking and delete all previous backups? or should I leave it there?
that's a tricky question. instead of deleting the iTunes folder from your startup disk, you might want to consider it your backup of your precious media files (or perhaps move it to yet another external HD). see http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/20.html.
but, if you really want to, *don't use the finder* ! see http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/12.html.

  • Itunes folder on external drive keeps reverting back to local iTunes folder

So I have all my digital music, pictures and videos stored on an external drive. I have 3 different MBP acessing these files and itunes randomely reverts back to the default local itunes folder and then I have to change and organize all over again which includes dups that I have to manage and delete later. What a pain in the arse! Does anybody have a solution that prevents this from happening, running Lion on all 3 MBP.

They are all using the library (and by that I specifically mean the library file, not just the media files) at the same time?  Maybe when one is actively using the library file it prevents the others from using it or somehow interferes and makes them think the library on the external is not usuable and they revert to the internal one.
If this is set up through some fancier nettwork then probably hte person who can answer your question will want to know the details.  iTunes typically revets to default when it cannot find a library on an external drive and perhaps something is happening with the network to change the identity of the drive in the way your computer perceives it.

  • Aperture Library on External Drive Keeps Locking Up

    Hello all!
I have the aperture library that I created after my most recent wedding shoot on an external hard drive. Since I was importing photos out in the field, I created the library on my external from my laptop. I now want to edit photos on my desktop mac at home, and am able to launch aperture to my wedding library on my external, and browse for up to a few minutes, but then it freezes, and sometimes will unfreeze after a few minutes, but sometimes I am simply forced to force-quit. The external is properly formatted (Extended, Journaled), and is connected via USB 3.0. What could I be doing wrong?

and browse for up to a few minutes, but then it freezes, and sometimes will unfreeze after a few minutes, but sometimes I am simply forced to force-quit.
Have you repaired the Aperture library after the Force -Quitting? That is strongly recommended.
Next time you launch Aperture, open the Activity viewer (From the Windows menu > Show Activity). This way you will see, which media Aperture is currently processing, when it is starting to hang.
You may have a corrupted video or photo in your library, that cannot be processed and is causing Aperture to hang. You can test that by launching Aperture while holding down the Shift-key. This will defer the generation of preview images. If Aperture does not hang when launched this way, it is very likely, that a corrupted file is causing this, and you have to try to identify it.
If the shift-key does not make a difference, test with a new, empty Aperture library and add a few test images. DO you have the same problem with a different library?

  • ITunes music folder keeps reverting back to default

If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it: I just moved my music library to a new hard drive, following the Apple instructions on "moving the iTunes music folder" (i.e. changing the iTunes music folder location on the advanced tab in preferences, setting it up to copy files, and then consolidating the library). The move worked, but for some reason, whenever I exit iTunes and come back in, the iTunes music folder reverts back to the default (C:\Documents and Settings\default\My Documents\My Music). It doesn't announce it or anything, but when I go to add new music, it sends it there instead of the new drive. What am I missing on the transfer?

I have noticed that you have posted on a thread that is 2 months old. This is really a bad idea as your issue can be easily overlooked. It's always much better to "start your own topic" by click on this link on the forum main page.

  • Wallpaper keeps changing back to default

I posted this in another forum, by accident.
Here is a video of what's going on: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_iESJDAn6g
I'm usually pretty good with my Mac, but I can't figure this one out, for the life of me.
I use my older model Macbook Pro for a media computer. It's hooked up to a surround receiver, by a DVI>HDMI cable and with the optical audio out on the laptop. The surround receiver then goes to my TV, which I use as a display (I keep the laptop closed).
Recently, I've done two new things to my setup:
    1. changed the desktop around with Geektool (it now displays the time, date and a calendar)
    2. bought a Logitech Harmony 1100 remote to control my media setup.
For some reason, whenever I change from the Macbook Pro to, say, my Xbox, when I come BACK to the Macbook Pro, the wallpaper has changed from what I've chosen to the default wallpaper (from when you first install OS X). When I restart the computer, everything works properly and the wallpaper is back the way it should be, but until then, no matter how many times I change the wallpaper from the 'default,' it always waits about a second and changes itself back.
To be clear, in the Desktop/Screen Saver settings, everything looks how it should look: the wallpaper that I want to be the wallpaper is still selected as the current wallpaper. When the picture on the actual desktop changes, nothing changes in the Desktop/Screen Saver Settings, which is what is so confusing to me. I can pick a wallpaper and have it show up for about a second, at which point the default wallpaper pops up on the desktop (meanwhile, the wallpaper I've selected is still the wallpaper selected in Desktop settings).
It's truly bizarre. I've tried using InsomniaX, to see if maybe there was something weird when the computer was going to sleep (when I change inputs on the surround receiver), but the problem still persists.
I've turned off Geektool and restarted Finder and nothing's happened and I can't imagine that the Harmony is sending a weird code that would make my computer's wallpaper change.
I did a PRAM reset and that didn't solve the problem.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

I suspect Geektool is the culprit. Did you have this problem prior to installing it. If not, then I suggest that you contact Geektool's manufacturer to see if they can come up w/some suggestions.
Have you tried any of the following?
Trashing the desktop.plist file & restarting your computer?
Repairing permissions and/or repairing your disk from the install DVD?

  • MacBook Pro screen saver keeps going back to default settings

I use the Vintage Prints screen saver and always change the folder of photos to the most recent folder of photos I have taken. (I am an avid photographer and take lots of pictures.) Periodically the screensaver reverts back to the default settings: National Geographic photos, not shuffling the slide order. This has happened multiple times. Why won't it keep my settings?

Well try upgrading the firmware of the router & keep on holding tightly the reset button in such a way that power light is blinking on the router & then do a complete network power cycle i.e., unplug the power cables from the modem & from the router & then plug in the power cable to the modem first once all the lights are solid green you could plug in the power cable to the router & check out it will definately work!!
Open the setup page of router using 192.168.1.1 then put in the password as admin...all you need to do is do the wireless settings such as Radio Band Frequency to Standard 20 MHZ frequency, channel to 11.
Also, the advanced wireless settings to Beacon Interval=50,Frag
    thres=2306 & Rts thres=2307 & then uncheck a Block Anonymous Internet
Requests & it will definately work!!!

  • ITunes 12 keeps reverting back to default info tags for purchased music

I have a large library of roughly 18,000 songs and the majority of them were not purchased through iTunes. I have my library very well organized, including detailed genre tags. iTunes by default only has music from their store tagged with very basic genre terms such as "rock, pop, alternative"... but when I go to change the info on the purchased songs to more specific tags such as "progressive rock, pop rock, alternative metal" it takes effect just fine, but only temporarily. When I go back to look at my list of genres a couple days later, the tags always seem to revert back to the basic "rock, pop, alternative" tags. Every time. And this only happens with the music purchased from the iTunes store, not the music from CDs and downloaded through other sources. Is there a way to stop iTunes 12 from screwing with my info tags for my music? This is becoming quite annoying.

Make sure that these two options in Edit > Preferences > Store are turned off:
Then exit iTunes and open it up again.  Your metadata entries should then be persistent - with these options checked iTunes will be comparing what you have with the information held in the iTunes Store, and will overwrite with the latter for Store purchases (and if you have iTunes Match).  If you have any iOS devices you should also turn off Show All Music under Settings > Music.

  • Environment fonts keep changing back to default

In order for my UIs to look good on all my deployed systems (usually windows xp or 7) I change all the environmental fonts (Tools>Options>Environmental>Fonts) to Tahoma (and, of course, set the init file to use tahoma for all these fonts).  Lately I've been noticing that every once in a while I will open LabVIEW and the fonts will be changed back to their defaults.  Has anyone else had this issue or does anyone have a good work around?  It is frustrating because I usually don't notice this has happened until I've finished aligning multiple elements and then realize I have to change the font and align them again.
Note: I'm developing in LabVIEW 2012 on a Windows 7 pc.

    Hey Gollum,
I found what seems to be causing your issue. There is a bug in LabVIEW 2010 and later that causes custom font tokens to be overwritten when any other change occurs in the LabVIEW.ini file. The Corrective Action Request (CAR) ID Number is 256978. The issue was fixed in LabVIEW 2013 (http://www.ni.com/white-paper/14541/en/).

  • My Macbooks Wallpaper keep reseting back to default Mavericks wallpaper every so often, why is that?

    Do I have a Virus?
    Specs: Macbook 2009 mid 2.13ghz
    Ram: 4 gigs ddr2 ram
    Intergrated gpu: nvidia 2400 256mb
    240gb ssd harddrive
    OSX Version: 10.9.1

There's no known malware capable of infecting a Mac OS X 10.9.1 system. So it's not malware.
As to what it is, I don't know. Your Mac is probably having trouble locating your background images, so it reverts. This could be because you've got a hard drive problem or other glitch in your system, or it could be related to where you have stored those background images, or it could be the result of some third-party software that is interfering somehow. Without more information, it's impossible to say.
