Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You could also use something like YamiPod to move music from directly from the iPod to the new computer, so you don't need to go back onto your old computer.

  • Can I have my itunes library on more than one computer

I want to add to my library from a couple of different computers and not have to use the same one all the time. Can I have Itunes on 3 different computers and synch the libraries?

It is possible but requires very careful organization.  Essentially you need to replicate your library from one PC that you designate as the "master" to the others you want to use the same library on.  See these two of turingtest2's user tips:
Make a split library portable describes how to bring your library into the best layout to make it easy to replicate
Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy describes a robust procedure to copy your library to an external drive, and then to make incremental updates to the backup
This is essentially the approach I use, with three different PCs - desktop running Win7/32 as "master", two different Win7/64 laptops as "secondary":
You'll notice that everything here is one-way, from the master, via the replicated library on the external drive, to each of the secondary systems.  It is possible to reverse the process under very specific conditions - an example's best here ...
I update the backup on my external HDD from my master system
I update the library on one of the "secondary" laptops from the external HDD (so this is now a 100% duplicate of what's on the master)
I add to the library on the secondary laptop - new media, modified playlists, etc.
Now, assuming I've made no changes to the master since step 1, I can reverse the process - backing up the library on the laptop to the external drive, then updating the master from the external drive.
The last time I posted this picture/procedure it was suggested that I should accompany this with a "health warning", so here goes - YOU REALLY NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING for this to work correctly (or, like they say on TV, "don't try this at home") - there are many ways for this to go wrong and really only one way to ensure it works correctly.  The whole approach is predicated on the assumption that you have two (or more) libraries with identical content.  Even then, I tend to steer away from the situations where I modify the library on one of the secondary systems and sync this back to the master - not because it doesn't work, but because it opens up a few more possibilities for "dumb user error" that could leave me with inconsistent content across the three machines.
The other possible solution, which would be an option if all the machines you're using are on the same local network, is to use Home Sharing and make use of its facilities to copy media from one library to another - in this case you have distinct libraries with a method for copying content from one to another.  You won't, however, be able to have the same playlists on each machine.  The other benefit of the approach described above is that because you have several physical copies of the same logical library you can sync your iDevices to any of them without the possibility of the device content being erased because iTunes detects that its previously been synced to a different library.
I'll be honest and state that it took me considerable time to arrive at this setup - with more than a few ****-ups along the way - so you may want to carefully test this out before implementing something like this across several systems.

  • YES OR NO-Can you use one ipod and it's library on more than one computer?

I cannot seem to access my library from this additional computer I have authorized and synced already...is there something I am missing or is an ipod loyal to only one computer at a time?
    Thank you

  • Post document to content library with more than one tab

    Hi
In BPC 7.0 I have been trying to post an html file (converted from an excel file with several tabs) to the content library, but when previewing or trying to open the document it shows "The page cannot be found... HTTP error 404 - File or directory not found."
Saving other files with just one tab or word documents is no problem.
    Thanks for any advice.
    Regards
    Melanie

    Hi Ulrike,
If the problem only comes from Excel files having more than one tab, you should raise this to support, as it could represent a potential bug.
When opening your message, do not forget to provide:
    - BPC version and Service pack
    - SQL server version and service pack and Cumulative update
    - Multi or single environment
    - Try to reproduce the same problem into ApShell, and attach a step-by-step document to the ticket. Support will always ask you for that.
    Kind Regards,

  • Once I updated to Firefox 11, I can't open pdf's. This is on more than computer, snow leopard and lion and more than one website.

I've updated to Firefox 11 and now I can't open online pdf's. This has happened on more than 1 computer, using both OS 10.6.8 and OS 7.0 and on more than one website. I tried unchecking "block pop-ups" under preferences but that didn't help.
When I use Safari to open the same pdf's, they open up fine. Everything worked fine with my Firefox until I did the upgrade.
I'd prefer to continue to use Firefox, but I can't figure out the root of the problem.
Has anyone else had this happen as well?

I found a recommendation in another thread:
''If using a Mac, go to the Firefox Plugins and disable the Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in, Version 10.1.3. This is a recent plugin update, and as soon as it was installed I noticed that PDFs wouldn't download.''

  • Can i sync my itunes music library to more than one computer? my computer crashed and now has a different id.

My computer crashed - the orginal one that I synced my phone to and my iTunes music. Now I have a new computer and want to sync my music but it won't let me - I get an error message stating that I am only allowed to sync my phone to one computer. How do I get around this?

You can move the song files into a different iTunes library and sync them to a new device, but they will remain associated with the original Apple ID.

  • Itunes library on more than one computer

A co-worker of mine came to me with the following:
"I want to take my home ITunes Library make a copy of it and use it on both my work laptop and home laptop at the same time.  Is this possible and if so how hard and what would I need to do."
I have no idea on how or if this is possible.
Can anyone here help me out with this issue?
    Thanks

    Yes

  • Can I use aperture library on more than one machine

    My situation is thus:
I have a Macbook Pro on which my Aperture Library resides, in wherever Aperture decided to put it when I bought the software.
I now have a iMac, which obviously will be better than the Macbook for photo editing.
But I want to be able to take my Aperture Library with me when I take the Macbook out and about, and if necesary still edit on the Macbook.
Is there any way to share the Aperture Library, so that I can edit on the iMac, but leave the library on the Macbook, and then edit on the Macbook if I wish.
I am the only user, and will only be using Aperture on one machine at any one time.
I have searched archives but not managed to find the answer.

Is it possible to simply share the directory that contains the necessary file(s).
If your Library is in the location that aperture picks by default, then it will be in your "Pictures" folder - look for a file with a name like "Aperture Library. aplibrary".
What you will need to share depends on your import strategy for the master images. If you use managed masters, and all your master images reside inside the Aperture library, then you simply need to make this library file accessible  or copy it to an external disk.
If on the other hand your masters are referenced, then I would recommend to consolidate them into the library before you share the library and then share the consolidated library.
If you will share your library over the network or just by moving it to an external device is really up to you, but you might consider  the following pros and cons:
    - If you want to profit from the faster CPU on your iMac, then you should keep the library on the fastes volume that is available, and a network volume might be much slower than a directly connected volume.
    - if the network fails during a critical operation your library might get corrupted, if it resides on a network volume - there have been quite a few problems reported in this forum.
That is why I suggested to use your Macbook as directly mounted external volume, that leaves the library in its place on the Macbook Pro - no need to copy - and you have a very quick and stable connection,  but the decision is yours to make. You will have to be comfortable with the workflow you choose.

  • Sharing itunes library among more than one user

Hi I would like to know how to share an itunes library. I have 2 accounts on my imac and wish both to have access to the same library.

  • Can you link an iTunes library to more than one apple ID?

My wife and I have our own iPhones (4S) I have an iPad 2 and we have an iMac. We currently have one apple ID but iCloud is updating all our devices with the same data. I want to be able to create a new apple ID for my wife that still allows us to share our apps and music from out iTunes library.

If you create a new ID for her, she will no longer be able to share the apps that you purchased with your ID - unless she signs out out of her account on the iDevice and then signs back in with yours if she want to use or update those apps.

  • Importing Aperture Library, but more than 2x the number of photos

I'm just switching back to iPhoto after trying Aperture, and just dragged the Aperture library into iPhoto.
But its apparently importing 13,826 photos, even though there are only 5031 in the Aperture library.
    What's going on there?

What you imported was the original and preview versions that exist in an Aperture library. If you have a backup copy of the library before you imported the Aperture library revert to it and then Export the Aperture photos full size to folder on the desktop and import into iPhoto.
Or, if Aperture stores the originals in side its library package somewhat like iPhoto you could open the package and drag the folders containing the full sized originals into the open iPhoto window (the recovered backup library).
Otherwise you could try using Duplicate Annihilator to remove the duplicates. But be sure you're removing the smaller preview version instead of the full sized original file.
Terence Devlin uses Aperture so may have a better solution.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Sharing iPhotos library accross more than 1 MAC

As I now also own a MacBook Pro I want to have access to my photo library which is based on my Mac Pro rom my MacBook, how is this done?
    Thanks
    John

    John
There are two ways to share, depending on what you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other machine to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then network the two Macs together, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and on the other Machine, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both machines for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. then:
    Quit iPhoto on both machines.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external HD set to ignore permissions.
On each machine in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both machines will have full access to the library, in fact, both machines will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.

  • Itunes library with more than one account?

    Hi- new mac user here.
We have all our itunes on the admin user of our imac, but would like to access the files on all user accounts. Is this possible? If so, how?

    revpcox
If you want the others to be able to play the music then enable Sharing in the Admin iTunes (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iTunes running and use Fast User Switching to open another account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. The Admin Library will appear in the Source pane. Repeat as necessary
Remember Tunes must be running in the Admin account for this to work.

  • Can I share my iTunes library between more than one device with different Apple ID's?

I just got a laptop and decided to set up my own Apple account apart from the one my family shares.  I still want a lot of the music on my family account but don't want to buy it all over again.  Is there a way for me to get this music in my new account? If so, how do I do this? I am looking for the best and simplest answer.

Yes, if they are not DRM protected
Open itunes, connect device, select what you want to sync, sync.
DO the same for your other devices.
