I am using iPhoto 11 and my library has 736.5mb on disk. I have problems with iPhoto stalling and needing to force quit. I have rebuilt my library. Can you suggest anything else? Thanks, Rose

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If that does'nt help log into another user account on your Mac and try iPhoto from there.

  • Problem with iPhoto 9.3.2: Any assistance or how to re-install?

    Hi all,
I've got a problem with iPhoto 9.3.2 whereby upon startup, I get a spinning wheel which goes on forever (I've left the computer alone for 5 hrs and coming back, it's still spinning). Symptoms are it pulls up the Library with Events, Photos, Faces, even Albums. But I don't actually get any photos displayed on the right.
    I've tried :-
    1) reinstalling Mountain Lion
    2) using Disk Utility Repair Permissions
    3) Rebuilding thumbnails & library
    4) Creating new library
    5) starting up under a new user account (therefore not a problem with a config file in my homedir)
    6) Starting iPhoto up in Safe Mode
Note during the spinning wheel, I can access the menu as such I can quit, import photos, etc.
It actually works (worked) under the following conditions :-
    a) Until 31st July iPhoto 9.3.2 was working fine. I cannot remember what I did/installed/uninstalled/changed/deleted to cause it to have problems
    b) I can get access to the very same library with Aperture with no problems at all (i.e. no library issues)
    c) Photos will only display if I import a picture. Then all Events will appear. I can get into each event, I can even select the photo I imported and delete it. This is my current workaround to accessing photos in iPhoto. However I cannot switch to any of the albums I created. It will only display Events. Clicking on Photos, Faces, Places, and any of the Recent doesn't do anything.
So finally now is to try to re-install iPhoto 9.3.2. Can any one please let me know how I can do this? I've tried Option-Click on Purchases tab in the App Store but I get a greyed out INSTALLED in iPhoto. Similarly I found a link that provided the iPhoto9.3.2Update.dmg but in attempting to installing that, it tells me it can only be done via the App Store.
    Any advice?
    Cheers

@putnik, yes I believe the update came from that site.
@mende1, perfect! That was easy! I thought I had to clean out plist files from my home directory, etc. Upon deletion and reinstallation, iPhoto started working again!
    Thank you so much!

  • Sync problems with iPhoto (Last iTunes & iPhoto & iOS)

Some people have problems to with the music sync but anyone has the same problem but with the photos? iTunes doesn´t count the number of photos that suposse to be listed when you select your album on itunes/device/photos... I have once the problem with the music but it cames right after delete and resync my playlists.
         Thnks!
Tested on iPhone 5 and iPad2 Mavericks iTunes 11.1.2 and iOS 7.0.3 Same problem with iPhoto 9.4.3 and 9.5."

I have the same issue - iTunes 11.1.2, iOS 7.0.3, Mac OS X Mavericks, iMac 2011, iPhone 5S - Aperture 3.5 and iPhoto 9.5 - iTunes does not sync pictures (not even counts them) between my iPhone 5S and either one of the programs. When I select iPhoto, it even shows information of a library I am not opening with iPhoto anymore.
I have resorted for the time being, waiting for a bug fix, to copy what I am interested in, into a folder and sync from it - that at least works.
Moreover, contrary to what said here in other threads, I can Wi-fi sync my iPhone 5S and iPad 2 to iTunes 11.1.2.
And, about all the complaints of iTunes not showing the "Info" tab anymore, Mac OS X now supports natively more types of accounts (Gmail, Yahoo, Twitter, Facebook, AOL, etc.). Everything can still be also set up manually in any case - so I don't understand what everybody is bragging about - you can avoid using iCloud, if so one wishes.

  • Problems with iPhoto 11.1.4 after update

iPhoto automatically upgraded to 11.1.4 on February 1st, since when I have not been able to access my iPhoto libraries.  I had upgraded to "Mavericks" from 10.6 in November 2013 and then installed the compatible version of Microsoft Office and have been using both Office and iPhoto since then, so I conclude that (a) it is not an old problem and (b) it is not a "cross-contamination" problem.
On starting iPhoto, the message appears that I do not have permission to access the library or that the disk is locked.  Since I created the library under my user-id, I find it difficult to believe that I do not have permission, and I have checked (4 or more times) that the disk is not locked.
A further message then told me that I needed to use the 'library updater', which I downloaded and ran.  I am still unable to access the library.
I have not "sync'd" my iPad nor my iPhone since then, as I am concerned that this could endanger the photographs downloaded from my MacBook.
Does anyone know of a problem with iPhoto 11.1.4 and older libraries which have been progressively updated (from pre-2009 through "Snow Leopard")?

The problem was not with the location - which had not changed - of the library but with the library itself.
I checked similar queries / issues and found an app "iPhoto Library Manager" which HAS solved the problem and, when I install the non-free version (which I have now purchased), it will help me remove the hundreds of duplicates & multiples which have infiltrated my library since about 2007!
Thank you for your response - it showed that someone cared!

I have a problem with Iphoto '06.  I have approximately 28000 photos.  Recently all but 5000 have disappeared.  I can not find or restore them.  Any suggestions?

This is what the inside of an iPhoto 6 library looks like:
Where in there did you look for the image files?
Did you run any updaters pror to discovering the missing photos?  What fixes have you tried?  Do you have a backup of the library on another hard drive?

  • Problems with iPhoto 7.1

Hope someone may help me with this. I just downloaded the iLife update and the new iPhoto 7.1 (and of course Gargeband etc.) and by opening iPhoto it does load the library, but then some menu functions do not work. Preferences does not open, the slideshow button does not work. It only shows the busy icon and I'll have to do a force stop. The message reads: 'iPhoto not reponding'. Before the update I never had problems with iPhoto.
    Thanks! Edward from the Netherlands

    Edward:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The slideshow button will work but it's very, very, very slow. Try again and let it sit for a while. It sometimes takes up to 30 seconds to open fully. It's the same with the Preferences. The latest update has made it slow to open the first time. After that it seemed to work OK for me. Be sure to post your problems at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html. The more reports the better.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

I have a problem with iphoto (have a mac book pro): the icon in the dock appears with a question mark, and the application is gone!!! Can someone tell what's going on? Yesterday I had the same problem with itunes: I downloaded the last version (it's free), but I cannot do the same with iphoto, and more important: I need to know what is happening!!! Please help me!

Applications should not disappear all by themselves.
If they are then that coud indicate serious problems with your hard drive.
Backup everything up as quickly as possible.
Using Disk Utility verify your system disk.

I'm having problems with iPhoto and the facebook set-up.  Every time I attempt to do so it says an error has occured and try again later.  I have not seen a solution posted.  Therefore, how does one contact Apple to solve the problem?  I'm new to the world of iMac but I find it a bit frustrating trying to solve basic issues/problems:(

For what it's worth, you posted this in 2011, and here in 2014 I am still having this same issue. Over the last two days, I have had to unlock my apple account 8 times. I didn't get any new devices. I haven't initiated a password reset. I didn't forget my password. I set up two factor authentication and have been able to do the unlocking with the key and using a code sent to one of my devices.
    That all works.
It's this having to unlock my account every time I go to use any of my devices. And I have many: iMac, iPad, iPad2, iPad mini, iPhone 5s, iPod touch (daughter), and my old iPhone 4 being used as an ipod touch now.  They are all synced, and all was working just fine.
I have initiated an incident with Apple (again) but I know they are just going to suggest I change my Apple ID. It's a simple one, and one that I am sure others think is theirs. I don't want to change it. I shouldn't have to. Apple should be able to tell me who is trying to use it, or at least from where.
    Thanks for listening,
    Melissa

  • Problem with iPhoto 7 import

    Hi,
I find a big problem with iPhoto 7 and import !
I made 53 scan of photos in 1200dpi, modified, cleaned and saved them in jpeg files (1mo to 2mo by photo)
all are in the same folder and some are in grayscale other in colors.
When I want to import (with copying or not) them in iPhoto 7 (already updated) 15 of 53 have not small photo in event they are black, and when I zoom on them they are bug.
    It is only in iPhoto.
If I share this event in iMovie small photo is black but if I move this photo in my iMovie project Photo is good...
Then it is really a big problem because I can't use iPhoto for my albums, cards, ...

  • I have a problem with IPhoto

( I'm sorry for my baaaad english, because I'm french )
Hello, I have a problem with IPhoto. Recently my macbook it's broken down. Now, it's repair. I turned, and after setting, I notice that I don't have iPhoto, and it's out of the question that I'm paying for it. Help me please

Open the App Store application in the Applications folder. Click on the Purchases tab on top. iPhoto should appear in the list there, as per your entitlements, and you can click on Install to have it downloaded and installed again. Same goes for any other app you are entitled to and is no longer present in the computer.
The next issue will be "where are my photos". The above will take care of the application per se, but if you did not back up your photos elsewhere, they will be gone.

  • Problem with iPhoto 9.2.1 update to a higher version.

Hi, I have a problem with iPhoto 9.2.1 update to a higher version. I tried to install version 9.2.3 and version 9.2.2 and each time the installer returns the message that must have version 9.1.0. Both the update downloaded from Apple.

How old is your Mac? If it's very recent you need to update via the App Store
If you purchased at the App Store you need to update via the App Store
Otherwise you update via Softare Update
If you have moved iPhoto from the default location (i.e. into a Folder) then the updater won't find it. Move it back.
If you have renamed iPhoto, the updater won't find it. Change it back.

  • What is the problem with IPhoto ´11 when I am uploading a photobook to apple store, there is always an error. Anyone ???

What is the problem with IPhoto ´11 when I am uploading a photobook to apple store, there is always an error. Anyone ???
evrything is right wite my appleID.

First try to create a pdf file of the book as described in this Apple document: iPhoto '11: Preview a book, card, or calendar before you order or print it.
If you are unsuccessful in creating the pdf file then boot into  Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode and try again.  If that works you can continue and order the book while in Safe Mode.
Be sure to keep the pdf file of the book to compare with the printed copy when it arrives.

  • Problems with iphoto library

I'm having problems with duplicate photo's showing up in my iphoto library. first of all how do i get rid of them. can i just go through them all and delete the dupes without them returning. second what caused them? i also have a few questions in how to use iphoto in general. how do i import existing photos to my iphoto library. if i have a folder of pictures and add it to my library, iphoto makes a copy of them in the iphoto library folder right? does that mean that after they get imported i can delete the original folder to avoid duplicates? also, say i have a folder named my pictures or imported into the iphoto library, if i add a few pictures to that my pictures folder, how do i add only those new pictures to the iphoto library? do i just add the whole folder again, and iphoto will know which ones are already there and which are new? oh and by the way, i messed up and moved stuff around in my iphoto library directory before knowing any better.

--First thing to know and remember is this...Do not drag any images, folder of images into the iPhoto Library in the Finder. Images have to be imported into iPhoto within the application. Do not scan images and save them into the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder. Save them to another location such as the Pictures folder or even the desktop. You can then import them into iPhoto.
--All images that you import are sown in the library view. You can choose how you want to view, by rolls, by date, by rating, etc. When you put images in an Album, slideshow, book, etc, you are actually just putting pointers to those images in the library. You are not adding more images. If you delete an image from the Album it will still be in the library. If you delete an image from the library it is deleted from iPhoto's database and your hard drive (unless you have it backed up somewhere else)
--You have a folder of images on your hard drive and want to import them into iPhoto. Drag the folder of images into an open iPhoto Library window and the folder of photos will be copied into the library, resulting in a new roll with the name of the folder. You now have two copies of those photos, the ones in iPhoto's database and the ones on your desktop. You can keep the ones on your desktop that you just imported as backup or you can delete that folder.
-- you scan a picture/pictures and save it in a folder. You cannot scan directly into iPhoto or the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder.
You want all your photos in iPhoto so you import them into iPhoto.
Now you have two copies of that picture/pictures, so you can delete the originals that were in the scanned folder and keep the one/ones that were imported into iPhoto.
-- You download pictures from your camera into iPhoto.
There is now one copy of each of the pictures.
You want to change something about a picture you imported, such as
cropping it or changing the size, or changing the orientation.
Once you do that to a picture, you now have two copies of the picture
in iPhoto, the original and the edited one. The edited one will be in the library organize view. The original is packed away in an Original folder in your iPhoto Library folder under the date of the roll. You can always revert to the original by control clicking on the photo and choose "revert to orginal" You will not have this choice if you used iPhoto Diet to get rid of the Originals.
(a quick note on cropping within iPhoto...when you are in edit mode, you automatically will be in the crop mode with cross hairs to highlight the crop area. To finish cropping you must click the crop button and then go back to library view and your cropped picture will be there.
3.You want to use Photoshop or another graphic program to edit a picture in your iPhoto library.
You can open up prefs for iPhoto and choose "when double clicking on
photo ..do" choose "other" and select Photoshop. Now you can edit all
pictures in your iPhoto library in PhotoShop by double clicking. If you save the photo with the same name and as a flattened file it will be saved right into iPhoto and you will see the changes. If you don't want to save it into iPhoto then do a "save as" and save to the desktop. You will then have the original photo still in iPhoto and your new edited photo on the desktop.
Or, with iPhoto open, you can drag a picture from the library window
to your desktop (you see a + sign on the pic you are dragging). You now
have two of the same picture, one in the iPhoto library and one on your desktop. You can open up the one on your desktop in any graphic program and work on it. The one in iPhoto stays the same. You can also share/export the picture/pictures to your desktop or folder to work on them or do batch processing, etc. You will still have the originals in your iPhoto Library.
Or, you can open up the ~/Pictures/iPhoto Library/folders and option drag any
picture out of the folder to your desktop.

  • Problems with iPhoto after exporting library to external hard disk

    Hello all,
I am using iPhoto 8 on an iBook G4. I recently attempted to back up my iPhoto library to an external hard disk. I did this by dragging the iPhoto library to the external hard disk. I did not delete the library on my own computer. Since I've done this, iPhoto has not been problematic. For instance, when I attempt to open an event on my computer, I can not see the thumbnails of all the photo's in the event - iPhoto will display each individual photo in sequence. If I want to print a picture, I have to export the entire event - I can't just drag the thumbnail to my desktop. Also, when I attempt to upload new pictures from my camera it produces an error.
Does anyone know what might be going on? I need to be able to access my photo's, so can anyone give me some advice on how to fix whatever I've done?
Any help you can give me would be much appreciated.

    Gina2008
iPhoto will display each individual photo in sequence.
There's a slider lower right of the iPhoto Window - drag it left.
Why are you exporting to Print?
when I attempt to upload new pictures from my camera it produces an error.
    What does the error say?
    As for accessing your pics:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
