Library question within ITunes

The problem I have is within ITunes. I click on Library. Then I find that 'Name' column is populated only, with the Song Title only. Do you know why the Album column does not have the name of my albumn or the Artist column either? My other music has the Albumn and Name populate correctly.
I cannot seem to find a solution for this....
I look forward to hearing from you.
Thank you.

  • Previous itunes library question/ erased itunes library

i accidentally erased my i tunes library. now i have a previous itunes library icon in my...my music folder with all my old file names, and when i try to import the old files off a cd my library still recognized the songs i chose off that cd. is there any way to get those files back onto my library with the contents of that icon or any other way? please help!

    *Adding new items/removing orphans*
Try iTunes Folder Watch or iTunes Library Updater. Folder Watch is much faster on the adding files front, can be set to run in the background and includes a useful exclusion feature, however it’s really slow at removing orphans. iTLU is better for this although doing it manually after looking at a list of proposed removals generated by Folder Watch is probably faster still. iTLU can also be set to update iTunes when you've used 3rd party tools to change tag info.

  • How do I back up my itunes library within itunes? I just purchased a new HP laptop and my library did not fully load from my back up files on an external hard drive (HP Simple Save).  I was told yesterday by a tech to back up library within itunes

How do I backup my itunes account on my old laptop within itunes so I can access on my new laptop.  Both are HP's

While the above sorts you out for a one time transfer this is what I would recommend...
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.

  • Large storage question regarding Itunes Library Management

    HI
I am running Itunes 7.4 and have a 500gb drive physically attached via firewire 800. I currently have my itunes preferences set to copy files to the library when added. My question is. Can I only have itunes physically manage and store my music on the 500gb drive while keeping my video on another drive and have itunes just maintain a reference. In other words I want to have multiple physical either managed or referenced by the itunes library.
How are you all dealing with this as your video and music libraries continue to get larger and larger?
    thanks
    jim

Create a second iTunes Library. Quit itunes - hold down the option key when relaunching iTunes and follow the directions offered.

  • Question: Multiple iTunes users w/ single music library on file server

My son and I (separate computers) host all of our music on a common file server. Initially, it was my music library...when he loaded iTunes, it imported everything and all was fine.
However, now if I add a few songs to the library (I can see them in the shared folders that we both have setup as our music folder within iTunes) they don't show up in his music library unless we either import them or drag them from File Mgr into iTunes.
There has to be an "automatic" way...doesn't there?
    I'm eager for suggestions.
    Thanks much,
    Rick

Sorry to say, there is not an easier way and folks have been requesting it from Apple for years.
You are running into the situation noted in this article, towards the end

+When another user of the computer has imported new music from CD, repeat steps 6 through 8 to add the music to your library.+

  • TS2972 How do you move your music within itunes from your regular library to the homeshares library so that you can import it to your new computer?

How do you move your music within itunes from your regular library to the homeshares library so that you can import it to your new computer?

You do not have to move it as such. Here are the steps to setup HomeSharing
    1) Ctrl B to turn on the top menu
    2) File > Home Sharing > Create Home Share enter your apple id and password, click create
    3) repeat steps 1 and 2 for the other computer and create home share using the same apple id and password
On your new machine if you have turned on the left hand sidebar the Shared Library should be about halfway down like this.
Select the songs you want and click import at the bottom right. If you want all songs then I would select one song nad Ctrl A to select all
Finally if you have a lot of songs to transfer Switch off the wifi on the old computer. Leave the wifi on the new one. Connect with an ehternet network cable. The copying speed is way faster.
Click import and grab a coffee

  • Centralized iTunes Library question

I need some with help with my configuration. This is what I have:
    1. Drive containing iTunes Library connected to Airport Extreme Base Station (7.3.2) via USB
    2. This iTunes Library is linked to my AppleTV; I see it linked in my ATV settings
    3. AppleTV (2.0.2) connected to 802.11n network
    4. I am using manual addressing for the three network devices: ATV, MacBook and iMac
Using my MacBook (10.5.4) and my 802.11n network, I start iTunes (7.7) and connect to the iTunes Library on the network drive. The iTunes Library detects my AppleTV. I can stream, sync, manage the AppleTV. I have "Allow all incoming connections" set to true. Everything is cool.
Now, I try to do the same with my iMac (10.5.4) after quitting iTunes on the MacBook. I have the same iTunes version (7.7), I'm on the same 802.11n network, and have the same firewall settings. Using a Bonjour browser, I see the same characteristics on both machines. And, I can ping the ATV. However, I cannot get this iMac to detect the ATV (i.e., no ATV in device list).
Can someone tell me if this configuration should work? If it should then, suggestions are welcome.
    Thanks in advance.

I don't think that this can work because only one computer can work as the main iTunes library for syncing. Other computers can connect as Shared (streaming only), but they will have different music or video libraries. In iTunes, you will have to turn on "Shared" in the Preferences library. In iTunes -> Edit ->Preferences -> Sharing -> <check> Look for Shared Libraries <check> Share My Library on My Network
Once this is activated, on the primary computer that displays the ATV, you will see a new catergory above the playlists section of iTunes that says "Shared"; these should be the files that are on the subsidiary computer that will stream.

  • Part-backup, full Library question

I'm about to get a 32GB flash drive (it's on offer) and will use it to backup some iTunes data. This includes a big project about 17GB in size, with lots of nested playlists and important tagged data. This will easily fit on the drive, along with my Favourites playlist. However, there isn't room for my entire iTunes folder which is over 38GB.
The question is, how to achieve this without losing any of the important stuff like playlists, tags, ratings, etc? I can, for example, drag the relevant playlists to the flash drive from within iTunes. I could also drag the iTunes Library files there too. But those will refer to the whole iTunes Library, not just the 66% - 75% of it I'm backing up.
What would happen if I ever tried to recreate iTunes on a different machine, from the iTunes Library file on the flash drive? The Library file and the music won't be in sync with each other.
I already have a full backup of iTunes on an external HDD, but this is 'important belt and braces' stuff - I want to know that my most important music and playlists and data are preserved should the worst ever happen and I need to use what's on the flash drive.

I don't think you can do exactly what you want to do -- not easily.
The following is just theoretical, but it might work (I would back up first to make sure!):
You could try selectively consolidating some items to an iTunes folder on the flash drive.  Consolidating, I believe, just copies files, not move them (or my references are out of date).  Then once there is a partial duplicate of the library on the flash drive you could copy the library files and artwork, etc. to the drive so you  reconstruct everything a normal iTunes folder would need to start with a partial version of your current library.  Of course there would be many broken links but you could use one of Dougscripts to remove dead links for the files you hadn't copied.
I have never consolidated but I think you change the media location preference in your iTunes preferences.  Then do not let it organize things when you close preferences -- you don't want to have it do it automatically for everything.  Select items to be copied in iTunes, then there will be a consolidate command you can use to consolidate selected items.  Go back and return your iTunes preferences to normal.

  • Two Questions on iTunes U Artwork

    Hello:
My university has a private instance of iTunes U. My 2 questions have to do with artwork.
    1. I have found that when downloading directly to iPhone/iPod touch/or iPad, not all artwork is downloading along with the podcast. Some courses are displaying the artwork- while others are not. All the images are 300x300 jpegs. I have tried setting the track preferences to consume the course page image for all and still no luck having the artwork on the device. When I sync my device with a computer, it will then appear. This is frustrating as many uses are downloading content directly to their device. Is there some secret to setting to getting all artwork to display on the device?
    2. Is it possible within iTunes U to have a course with podcasts that all have different artwork, but have the collection image be something other than the first image when displayed on the device? For example, lets say I have a course that is Finance- each podcast has its own artwork, but when I look at the collection on the iPhone, the artwork displayed is the artwork from the first podcast in the collection. Hope that makes sense.

    Hi, Trenholm
If I understand your problem correctly, your solution is to set desired artwork as the track's image itself. You apply the artwork within iTunes before you put your file on iTunes U.

  • My question is Itunes related.  How do you prevent a playlist saved in Itunes from alphabetizing the song list created. I wanted to keep the original order, and somehow everything was alphabetized without requesting it.

My question is Itunes related.  How do you prevent a playlist saved in Itunes from automatically alphabetizing the song list.   I had a specific order of songs that I wanted, and Itunes somehow automatically alphabetized them.  Is there a way to turn that feature off, and/or get them back to the original order?   I also noticed that once a playlist has been created, I cannot manually changed the order of the songs from my desktop..  Any suggestions?

That's just the sort order. It's displaying the media alphabetically because you have clicked on the NAME column near the top of the iTunes window.
Click on the little triangle above the column of numbers (usually on the far left side of the main iTunes window) and the media will sort in the order in which you added each item to the playlist.
You can easily reorder songs within a playlist: Click and HOLD on the song you wish to move, then drag-and-drop it wherever you like.

  • How do I restore my iTunes library when "Previous iTunes Library" is not showing up in iTunes folder?

I turn off my PC with Windows 7 for an hour, turn it back on and suddenly the only songs that show up are ones in the Cloud.
I looked through a bunch of questions on the Apple Support Communitities and they all say look for the "Previous iTunes Library" in the iTunes folder, but it's not there.
    Thanks.

If you have AVG AntiVirus the issue may rear its head again. See this post.

  • Changes in Picturealbums from Iphoto is not updated within Itunes/ATV

I would like to choose what picture albums from IPhoto that should be synchronized to AppleTV. But the AppleTV tab within Itunes does not update with the new albums that I have created in Iphoto. Anyone has an idea how I can force Itunes to refresh the list of shared albums from Iphoto ?
I've tried reboot everything there is after I made my changes

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
Could there be any photos with file types not supported by the tv in these albums. Or any illegal characters such as "/" in any of the album names, file names or even keywords or descriptions. Have you tried rebuilding your iphoto library.

  • 'iTunes requires Safari 4.0.3 or later to use the iTunes store within iTunes'

    In iTunes 10.5 on my Mac OS X 10.5.2, this message keeps popping up;
"'iTunes requires Safari 4.0.3 or later to use the iTunes store within iTunes"
This pops up every 5 or so seconds, so its really annoying if im trying to listen to music. There is no 'don't show this message again' option so its really getting on my nerves! The only way to get update Safari is though a software update and I am scared that if I do a software update, my Mac could crash again, like it did the last time and I had to spend €130 to get it fixed!
    My question is:
    1) should I do a software update and
    2) how can I stop this message apart from updating?
    Thanks in advance,
    Hannah.

    I have a 2006 MacBook with an Mac OS X version 10.5.
In that case, try downloading a Safari 5.0.5 for leopard from the following location:
