Library/Receipts (Can I delete?)

Just purchased a new Macbook, and I'm trying to just be a bit more efficient in saving space on my HD than I was on my old Powerbook. Just wondering, can I delete the receipts in my Macintosh HD/Library/Receipts folder?

joshl24,
W.J. is correct.
I use Macaroni to remove unused language localizations and perform Automated System Maintenance for Mac OS X. Monolingual also removes unnecessary language resources, but I have not used it.

  • Root of HD in library how can i delete ALL Faceb plug-ins,etc

How can i delete under my internal HD>system>library> accounts>authentication >facebookAuthentication plugin bundles & accounts>access>facebookAccess pluginbundles? why are they originally allowed there? and so is tencentweibo..and linkedin.
I dont want those plugins on my computer.
does this mean these companies have some access to my computer? or everyone's shall i say? what will happen besides me not being able to login into FB if i delete plugins and access?
    Thank you!

It depends a bit on how they got added and if each duplicate represents a separate file (physical dupes) or if you have multiple entries to the same files (logical dupes). See this article How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. The method given there works fine if the duplicates were all added at the same time and are physical duplicates. If they are logical duplicates then don't delete the underlying files or you lose your only copy of the track. If the dupes are not so easy to isolate by sorting then arrange them in the usual album order and delete all but one of each repeating group.
If that all sounds like too much effort try Dupin/Dupin Lite from http://dougscripts.com/itunes/.

  • HT4059 Have several books that were purchased recently, when all the sudden they have multiplied having 20 or more copies in my library   How can I delete them because it won't let me use the edit tab?

Have several books that were recently purchased. This week these books have multiplied into at least 20 or more copies within my library. How can I delete them because it will not let me use the edit tab?

Do they have the cloud icon on them ? When I had Settings > iBooks > Show All Purchases 'on' I was getting multiple copies of books that were only in the cloud showing on the bookshelf in the app - turning that setting 'off' stopped them showing (you can see what books are available for redownloading, and redownload them, via the Purchased tab in the ibookstore in the app)

  • I have a lot of duplicate photographs in my library. how can i delete the duplicates automatically?

I have a lot of duplicate photographs in my iPhoto library. It happened while our EIS were saving a computer breakdown, but now i would like to know how to selectively delete the duplicates, without doing it individually. That is, can I set up iPhoto to automatically search for and delete duplicate photographs in the library?

  • What is the User Template folder in the /System/Library? Can I delete it?

hi, looking for a little help. i was just perusing stuff on my macbook pro and came across this in finder:
macintosh>system library>user template. it's a folder with a little red circle and minus sign in the corner and the dates it was created, modified and last used were before we bought the computer. clicking on 'more info' tells me i don't have access to it. does anyone know what it is and if it can be trashed without adversely affecting my laptop? the size says 'calculating size' but it never gets off of that. thanks.

does anyone know what it is
The source files for all newly created user accounts.
if it can be trashed without adversely affecting my laptop?
No, and nothing else in System can be unless instructed otherwise.

  • How can I delete a song from my itunes library which I downloaded to my Ipad device?

I accidentally downloaded a song to the Ipad device from the cloud (from my Itunes library).  Can I delete this one song?

I do have a very a very same question:
I attach my iPad to my computer and open iTunes. Then I click on "iPad" (right upper corner).
When I click on Music on the top line I don't see my music titles but only the list of iTunes albums I may want to synchronize.
When I click on "On this iPad", I'm getting all music titles on the iPad. When I right-click on an item I'm getting "Play this music / Information / Wertung / show in iTunes store / show in playlist" (or so. I'm using a German version of iTunes). However nowhere do I get the option of Delete this music title. Please, how can I delete titles or albums from the iPad? Thanks in advance!

  • OK to delete boms for uninstalled printer drivers in /Library/Receipts?

I've trashed a bunch of unnecessary printer drivers from /Library/Printers. Can I trash their related Receipts in /Library/Receipts/boms? Together they are using quite a few MBs. They all start with com.apple.
Another quick question: A 3rd party app called DockDoctor installed a number of Receipts in the same location at boms. I've uninstalled the app, but would like to know if it's OK to trash their Receipts located there. If I do, could that cause some sort of conflict (permissions?) with the a.receiptdb (inside the db folder) which I noticed was changed at the time I installed the app? Thanks

You can delete items from the receipts folder if you really really want to, but I wouldn't recommend it.
    - It shouldn't cause problems if the item is definitely removed.
    - It could cause problems if the item isn't removed.
In any case, for most people the risk outweighs the benefit. If you're really short on hard drive space, I'd recommend other strategies. It's also generally a good idea to stay out of the /Library folder.

  • Can I safely remove items in /Library/Receipts/ ?

What are the drawbacks and ramifications of removing packages in the /Library/receipts/ folder?
    Thank you in advance.
    Jeff Cameron

    Hi Jeff:
The receipts in your Library tells Software Update what software is installed on your computer. When Software Update is launched it scans the receipts and determines whether you need to update. I believe this is also true for some third party apps. Since the receipt files take up only a very little disk space it is no real advantage to remove them, and may prove a disadvantage. For software that you have deleted from your computer, you may safely delete those if there are any. For more information see Receipts can affect what appears in Software Update (Mac OS X)

  • Can I delete iPhoto library and iPhoto in 10.10.3?

After upgrading to OS X Yosemite 10.10.3, I can use Photos.app instead of iPhoto.app.
The thing is, there are two photo libraries in my finder. So can I delete iPhoto.photolibrary without affecting my photos in Photos.photoslibrary?( I chose iPhoto library when setting up Photos.app)
Now given Photos.app, am I to understand that I can completely ignore iPhoto from now on and delete iPhoto.app from my mac?
Thanks for all the help! Really appreciate!

I have done just that, not sure in your case regarding the library's - I let Photos create its own library and not importing from iPhoto's, but I think which ever option you use when first starting Photos it will only use the Photos library after the initial import. Try moving iPhoto library to trash without emptying and open Photos, if all ok you can then delete.
I removed the iPhoto app as well gaining over 1.5 GB of space, also tracked down the other minor files in ~/Library/Caches and Preferences (plus a few other places) - but these are very small files and if you prefer can be left alone.
Lastly, if you delete iPhoto app you may get a prompt from App Store regarding reinstalling, read somewhere to stop that you need to remove any pkg files in Macintosh HD/Library/Receipts - if you do this last part make sure you only remove pkg files that contain "iphoto" in the description!

  • I have a long list of gibberish files, in Preferences, in my Library. What are they? How did they get there? Can I delete them?

I have a long list of gibberish files, in Preferences, in my Library. What are they? How did they get there? Can I delete them without causing a problem?

Here is one thing I found googling for WebEx:
    http://www.webex.com/why-webex/overview.html
(The x64 would most likely mean 64 bit). It may be a Windows based application/plugin, but since I had never heard of either, I'm only guessing there. If you do a search systemwide for it and don't find it plus don't know why it's there, I'd say throw it in the trash (don't empty it yet - make a note of the file path just in case you do have something installed that needs it so you can move it back).
Glad to hear it's not a torrent; some people use those not realizing that quite often there is a price to pay for downloading stuff for free that costs money elsewhere - the software packages quite often include little "add-ons" = malware which you really don't want.

  • Can i delete an album from itunes library and have it remain in my account

Can I delete albums from my library and have them remain in my account?

    Hi northcoast211,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you have an album in your iTunes library that you would like to delete but you are curious if it would remain on your account. If the album was purchased from iTunes, as long as the content is still available in the iTunes Store, you can re-download that content at no cost. Please use the attached article for more information.

  • How can I delete an old file from my library on iTunes

Occasionally I have to replace PDF manuals with ones that have been updated.  But after I sync the new file the old one remains on my Mac itunes library.  How can I delete the old file?  So far all I do is deselect the old file but it's still there.  Sooner or later there will be more old files then current ones making it hard to manage.
    Thanks in advance.

You can do this with or without the iPad connected to your Mac.
Launch iTunes on the Mac. Click on Books under the Library heading. Click on the PDFs. Then click on the PDF that you want to delete in order to select it, and go to Edit>Delete and follow the on screen prompts.
if you are using iTunes 11 and do not have the sidebar enabled, and wish to do so, go to View>Show sidebar or use the keyboard shortcut OPTION+Command+S.
If you do not want to enable the sidebar, the library items can be accessed in the button in the upper left corner of the iTunes window.
