Library repair stuck at 97%

First: Yes, I have backups. I even have archived backups
Anyway, I'm stuck at 97% for 10 mins. + during a repair. Force-quit does not show iPhoto as being unresponsive..
Should I force quit anyway?
thanks,
Andrew

Hey again Terence -
I started it so long ago I don't remember... it's basically the option-command startup followed by repairs including most everything. I don't remember if I told it to back up all thumbnails. Probably.
This may be what's taking so long, but honestly, if the process is known to go long for this stuff, apple's own Human Interface Guidelines should dictate a detailed progress report...
I am not repairing from backup/archive, just directly to a library.
thanks,
Andrew

  • Repairing Library Database stuck at 100% complete

My Library repair has been stalled for almost 24 hours at the "100% complete" stage for over 24 hours.
In Activity Monitor, however, Aperture is cruising along, bouncing between 350% to 550% CPU%.   Library is Aperture 3.2.4, and I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
My Library is fairly large (2.98 TB on a 4 TB internal HDD), and I'm reluctant to force quit given the amount of time spent on repairing (about 36 hours total).   Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Gordon

    Great!
    So for our statistics:
"My Library is fairly large (2.98 TB on a 4 TB internal HDD)"
will need three days - 1 TB per day - congratulations for your patience!

  • My iPhoto images won't show, and Photo Library Repair will not open when I command-Option-click on the iPhoto icon.

Some of my iPhoto albums will not show, as below:
When I click on any of those individual albums, for a brief split second I can see the images displayed, but then they revert to this:
Then if I click on any of those images, this image appears:
I have real a lot of posts that say to click Command+Option while opening iPhoto and this will open the Photo Library Repair window, but... this is not happening. Each time I do it, iPhoto just opens as it normally does. I've tried about 10 times, closing iPhoto completely. I've tried through the dock icon and through the applications listing. Neither will open anything other than regular old iPhoto.
Can anyone help me and suggest what I may be doing wrong, or are there any alternative was to open Photo Library Repair so I can rebuild my library? I really don't want to lose all of those photos, especially since some are really important and irreplaceable.
    Thanks.

I have real a lot of posts that say to click Command+Option while opening iPhoto and this will open the Photo Library Repair window, but... this is not happening.
Be sure you're holding the correct keys and that you're holding them long enough. Depress them before clicking on iPhoto and don't let go until the menu shows up.
If you don't want to lose those photos, make a back up now. Hopefully it's not too late.

  • Blank thumbnails even after library repairing

Photos works flawlessly on my 2013 MacBook Pro but doesn't work on my 2009 iMac 27". All the thumbnails remain blank after multiple library repairing and restarting (app and computer). I used the Option + Command + App Launching to access the library repairing function. What else can I do?

    carlaz:
If you rebuild does not work you might try moving the contents of the Data folder to the trash and the rebuild again with the first three options. That will force creation of new thumbnail files. Another way that will work when the normal rebuild does not is to use iPhoto LIbrary Manager as follows:
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your User/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File->Rebuild Library menu option
In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: It may take some time to create the new library if you have a lot of photos. One user reported that with a library of about 5,000 images it took about 12 hours so plan ahead.
Yes, putting the library on an external HD with the ownership turned off is the best way to share a library.

My Library is stuck and will not allow me to scroll or to browse-none of the buttons along the bottom of the screen work, either :(

If you mean on the iPad, then have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Photos library upload stuck/slow/stuck again...?

    Hi all,
I downloaded / upgraded to Photos about week and a half ago. I've been looking forward to geting the update and to finally get my whole iPhoto library uploaded and properly synced up with iCloud. I started immediately converting the library as is the procedure and the the wait started....
Its now becoming a joke, I've read a few threads around here and it seems like a lot of people have similar problems but no one seems to have a genuine solution to the problem. I can understand that the process of uploading 79GB may take time but then it gets stuck and sits there without anything happening.
I have tried restarting, disconnect/connect iCloud, repair the library, removed all videos, consolidated all referenced images, removed all RAW files and rebooted numerous times. I still cant seem to get unstuck.
After my latest repair of the library and a restart its now saying its uploading more files than the library contains....***?
    Anyone got any ideas...?
    /Fred

I am having similar issues, since lates OS update.  I have spent hours with apple care techs (4 different) and even took mac book pro into Genius Bar.  My conclusion:  my up load speed is too slow, if I pause the Photo up load to iCloud, in photo preferences, my network connection seems fine.  If I keep up loading, going on 4th day, my internet connection gets jammed up and intermittent.  I have a 15mbps down load and a 1Mbps up load. One tech support guy suggests buy into a faster up load speed, 2mbps minimun or go into Apple Store and up load library there.
Now i question the wisdom of even using the cloud for my photo library.  And if i turn off this  preference I get the message that I will loose items on my Mac photo library.  What's the deal?  Should I really be experiencing this issue affecting all my Apple devices on my network?

  • TS2518 Library upgrade stuck at 99%

The 3.2.4 Aperture library upgrade is getting stuck at 99% and maxing one of my CPUs seemingly indefinitely. I've force quit and restarted the process, but it's stuck again at 99%. I have a decent sized library, but not insanely huge or anything.
Anybody else experiencing this? Does it just take a really long time?

So I force quit Aperture, and did a "Repair Database" http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual/index.html#chapter=27%26se ction=10%26tasks=true
Less than five minutes later Aperture was open upgraded to 3.3.
    So there you go.
P.S. Aperture is now maxing all 4 cores of my CPU, I assume, processing all the previews.

  • IPhoto Library Repaired and Corrupted...pse Help..

    Hi and tnxs for reading.
Today I had a big issue with iPhoto 9.5.1.
I use it daily and the integrity of my photos is paramount.
I have multiple Time Machine Backups for this reason on different HDs and TC.
Today, while transferring through USB my photo from iPhone to the Mac (running Mavericks), it suddenly shutted down. That was probably due to an old USB to lightning cable not working properly. I replaced it with a new one and the issue did not appear anymore.
However, when I opened iPhoto again, it automatically did a Photo Repair. At the end of it, I noticed that my Events were not sorted manually as they were before but alphabetically, but the worse thing is that I have a folder “Repaired photo” with 200 photos: 30 of then are blank and if I click them I get a message informing me that there is no reference anymore to that photo. As regarding the other photos in the folder, they are both in the folder and in the original events (as far as I have been able to check).
I would like to be sure to have everything repaired correctly. What is the best thing that I can do?
Can I rename the photo library to keep it as a backup copy just in case I cannot go back to the original, and restore the last Time Machine backup of my Photo Library? If yes, what is the correct procedure, step by step? Anything I risk by doing that? any reference or any data I am going to lose if I go for it?
Any other advice please just if there was another test to do with the current library before going to use Time Machine backup?
    Many thanks.
    Cheers.

I would like to be sure to have everything repaired correctly. What is the best thing that I can do?
The best course would to restore the library backup copy made just prior to the aborted download and problem occurred.  Then reimport the photos from the iPhone.
Here's how to restore a library from TM:

  • Library Repair

When I try to open a library, Aperture tells me there is inconsistencies in it and it needs repair. I run the repair and get this message: "There was an error opening the database for the library" - is my data gone or is there something I can do to get it back?

    Hi gestone;
I finally found the web site I was looking for originally. Maybe if you look at the site on Aperture recovery it might help you.
    Allan

  • Odd Result from Library Repair

Today, as I was requesting Aperture to export one photo to Facebook, I got the message that inconsistancies had been dedected.  Although rare, this does happen from time to time, and Repair is always successful.
But this time, after the repair, I had a Recovered Project in the list of projects.  It identified two files as problematic, and not displayable.  Checking one of my clones of the Library, I found these to be two .mov files that in fact had not imported properly (but had on another Mac, into another library), and which were in the Trash in Aperture.  Other photos were in the trash, yet only these two were plucked out for a Recovered Project.  They remain in the Trash -- Curious!
    Ernie

That is indeed curious. I'd expect in the "Recovered" project only originals, that are found as orphaned in the library, and have lost the connection to the versions, but not any corrupted files?

  • IPhoto Referenced Library: repair aliases

Hello everyone, I have an iphoto referenced library of about 58 thousand pictures, I have the originals stored on a 1TB lacie hard drive ("castor") connected through firewire 800. Tonight I was doing some funny stuff in order to get that drive clean and empty for re-partitioning (since disk utility wound't let me erase a couple of mac journaled partitions I didn't need anymore without reformatting the whole volume), so I took all the pictures, documents, applications, and a mac os tiger (from which I boot sometimes) to another daisy chained 1TB lacie (pollux) and once I was done, back to it's original home ("castor"), I thought that, even formatted, it would keep it's original path, but may be it didn't for when I tried to open my library all of the files where missing. There were only thumbnails and once at full screen it would ask me for the current location of the picture and if canceled, it would show just a huge exclamation mark.
I remade some of those aliases manually but there are 58,000 + files. So I am looking for a clever solution to get all those aliases fixed automatically without having to re-import all the folders containing my pictures again (not yet).
A few days ago I had a rather similar problem with iMovie which I solved by following a tutorial; editing the project's binary file by turning it into html via terminal and then modifying it with the correct location of the files. I hope there might be some trick like this for my mess. I would guess all of the ilife applications have a similar architecture and way to work.
I will post back if I find any fix for others to learn. Meanwhile, thanks in advance for your useful help and sorry for my english, I am Mexican... greetings! .

Good day, unfortunately filebuddy did not work for me, however I found on the internet a hope for all of us having issue with our referenced libraries: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=711230
This man affirms that by double clicking in one of the files and manually finding it's location when prompted (as expected in iTunes) was able to regain the order of his library.
And in http://thedigitalstory.com/2010/05/reconnecting_master.html this function appears to be more reliable and may be I am upgrading to Aperture now.
My "referenced videos" iphoto library seems to be working quite well, even though it passed through the same odyssey of getting out and back to my external hard drive, and it's also within an intricate directory structure.
I certainly have the need of a referenced library since my computer's hard drive is laptop-size and therefore it can't run as fast for browsing 4 years of amateur digital photography, so I think there's no workaround about that, in fact it is a pretty amazing feature.
Meanwhile I managed to solve it using automator: renaming folders, making aliases, and replacing the dead ones with these. The only problem is that the aliases made by automator which uses (I think) a similar method as Finder for creating aliases is that these links occupy much more hard disk space that the ones generated by iPhoto. I am sure I read on some other post that I can get into the iPhoto application package and mess around with its vital files to get the aliases repaired, in a similar fashion as I did to iMovie. Thank you for your help.

  • Aperture Library Repair fail

    Hello,
I have Aperture 3, a 250GB Aperture Library and it faqiled to load this evening, just hung. I reapired permissions, tried to clean up the database and rebuild the database, none of which would run.I can find the library, look inside and see that the files are there in the folders. Aperture wont load it as the repair failed and was interrupted. Tried repair but the program bombs out.
Am scratching my head what to do?
Is there an external repair program that i can run over it? Aperture crashes out.

I too am having difficulty with Aperture permissions.  This permission problem has plagued me for the last year.  Permissions will not verify using disk utility (Version 13) and disk utility fails to complete the repair after 7 minutes.  Now my Aperture drive with all my libraries will not mount.  The error message says to copy all files and reformat.  How do you do this if disk utility will not mount the drive?

DO NOT TURN OFF TARGET!! in the upper left of my screen it says in red ODIN MODE with various info under that.
how do I stop this "repair"?!?!?!?! without wiping my entire phone of course

  • Iphoto 9.2 photo library is stuck in upgrade to iphoto 11

I'm on OSX 10.6.8 and running iphoto 9.2.3. The system prompted me to upgrade iphoto, so I did. But now when I try to launch iphoto, it says "to use iphoto '11, you must upgrade your photo library." When I click 'continue', it then says "you can't open your current photo library using this version of iPhoto." And tells me to quit--end of loop, box canyon. When I use the App finder to get info on my iphoto version, it says it's still version 9.2.3. How do I get this upgrade to complete so I can get iphoto back?

You don't. That was a test, as it says above. We'll try fix the main library:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
