Library rolls in iphoto not showing in main frame

in iphoto three of my "rolls" of film that i previously downloaded appear in the top of the main frame but when i click on the picture to look at it or edit, it has a blank gray square with an in the middle. if anyone has any tips for me, please contact me! thanks.

The ! or ? turns up because iPhoto has lost the connection between the thumbnsil and the photo it represents. The most common cause of this is User Activity in the iPhoto Library Folder. Have you ever moved, renamed or altered anything in this folder?
You could try rebuild the library by holding down the apple and option (or alt)keys and launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.

Bear with me a minute. You're confusing a lot of things.
1. As Larry says, on Windows you are using a File Manager for you your photos. All well and good if it works for you, but limited. Why? Because it doesn't leverage any of the extra information available with photos files. Essentially, a File Manager doesn't distinguish between a photo nd a Word file or a Music file. They are just files.
2. Photo Managers like iPhoto (Or Picasa, Aperture, Lightroom et al) work differently. They are designed to leverage the additional information available in the photo file. Case in point: Date. In the File Manager you have folders created for Year/Month/Day. In iPhoto the pics are grouped into Events automatically. These Events are based on the date and time the Photos were taken, and which is recorded in the Exif metadata for the photo file.
As we all know, when one downloads pictures from a camera, their"names" appear as a bunch of letters and the number indicating thesequence.
These are Filenames assigned by the Camera. In iPhoto you don't change Filenames you edit Titles. Titles are quite independent of filenames and are an entry in the Exif metadata.
I'm not sure what you've done in the renaming sequence, but iPhoto does not have a Sort -> by Name command. There is a Sort By Title command.
But you would not use Events for this job anyway. You would use an Album. Create an Album, drag the pics to it and then you can sort them in any order you want, manually. Then using the Batch Change Command you can create a sequence for them. So, Title the pics 'House Sale' and check the box to append number and the result:
House Sale 01, House Sale 02 etc

If you click View, Show Sidebar you will see the other libraries under Shared in the left hand column. Click on the Library you want and you can expand it to select Music, Movies etc. Select whatever items you want and click import if you want to move them to your Library.
You will have to have all computers authorised with the relevant Apple ID's
Store > Authorise this computer...
This is separate from the Home Sharing username and password and is to allow playing of DRM Movies, TV shows etc from the other computer.
If both Computers use the same apple id this step is not required.

Jdeveloper 10g 10.1.3.3 (OAF) with jdk 1.5.0_22 shows empty main frame
without any controls. But if I click on that frame in chaotic order the header text of main frame
is changing. It seems like controls are exists, but not visible.
If I use jdk 1.6 JDeveloper gives the next message

What is going wrong?

PE8 does not show MTS still frame as thumbnail in Organizer

I am importing some MTS footage into organizer but PE8 does not show the still frame as the thumbnail. All clips have a generic film tape Icon instead. Why? The clips are properly available though.

Had the same problem. A pain.
I renamed the clip in the organizer window to something comprehendible (Birthday_cake.MTS!)
You could export it to some other format (MPEG2) that shows the thumbnail and then import it if you want a longer approach.

IPhoto not showing RAW pics, and crashing on Create New Library

i was just organising (tagging, deleting) pics in iPhoto 9.1 when the RAW pics started showing up as just blank placeholders - i'll clarify that: they were showing previously, however my perception of them 'disappearing' may have been between iPhoto sessions.
my iPhoto library is mostly JPEGs, with the RAW pics being a recent addition courtesy of a Canon EOS 5D MkII. the iPhoto library resides on a 500GB external harddrive. the iPhoto library was backed up by way of copying the entire iPhoto folder from the 500GB external harddrive to a separate 1TB external harddrive - this back-up process was done prior to the addition of more recent RAW pics, and the memory card from which all the RAW pics came from has been wiped several times since. some RAW pics taken in December 2011 are showing; none of the RAW pics taken in January 2012 are showing.
what i've done so far:
1. Option-Command-opened iPhoto and ticked all boxes to rebuild the library and the RAW pics are still not showing. this rebuild process has been done at least three times now.
2. opened the iPhoto Library (via Show Package Contents) and confirmed that the pic files are still there in the Masters folder. (they are identified by the date the photos were taken, the CR2, and can be viewed in Preview.)
3. installed the iPhoto 9.2.1 Update and the RAW Camera Update 3.9, with no change in the RAW pics' visibility.
4. Option-opened iPhoto and -
a. - created a new library (on the 1TB external HD, separate to the 'backup') into which i -
b. - tried to import the entire iPhoto Library from the 500GB external HD but -
c.   this import ended in an "iPhoto quit unexpectedly" message. unfortunately, i did not keep the error report for this.
5. Option-Command-opened iPhoto to create a new library on the 1TB HD but this has ended abruptly in an "iPhoto quit unexpectedly" message. this has happened twice, and i have kept one of the error reports.
6. downloaded and installed the latest iPhoto Library Manager and -
a. - tried to Rebuild the library but -
b. - iPhoto quit unexpectedly - i have kept this error report - while -
c. - iPhoto Library Manager gave the error message "'iPLM'/'ADDK' (returnID 3)".
interspersed with the above steps, i have run Disk Utility Repair Permissions after each crash.
so.
i know the files are still there. but iPhoto won't show them. i've trawled these forums and done - or tried doing - some of the fixes, all to no avail.
please can someone help.

Camera roll on iphone not showing on iphoto

I plugged my iPhone 4 into my MacBook Pro and the camera roll is not showing up on iPhoto or Lightroom 5...
Please HELP! My husband and I only had our iPhones during a few days in California while on the Channel Islands and want to print some of the photos!

OR, Try this:
1. Open Image Capture.
2. Do a CMD+B to Browse Devices.
3. Uncheck the Connected box for "John's or whatever iPhone" and then recheck the box whose name changes to "Still Digital Camera."

Imported audiobook and iPhone videos not showing in main library.

Today I imported an Audible book I had downloaded by dragging the files onto the "Library" section of iTunes. The progress bar showed that the files were being imported and the book shows up in a smart playlist in the "Playlist" section but not in the "Books" category of the library. I have checked and the files are exactly where they are supposed to be on my hard drive with this author's other books. A similar thing happened when I imported videos from my iPhone. I had downloaded them from my phone onto my desktop and then dragged them onto the library where the progress bar showed they were imported. They are not in the "Movies" library but when I went to sync them onto my iPad2 they show under the "Movies" tab of the iPad and were successfully synchronized onto my iPad2. I tried quiting iTunes and restarting it but this did not cause them to show up. I then restart the whole computer but still no go.
Any suggestions? I am running iTunes 10.6 (40) on an Intel Core 2 Duo iMac running OSX 10.7.3.

Iphoto not showing all pics in the library

I recently found pics in my iphoto library that aren't showing up in iphoto. Is there a way to make iphoto scan all of the hard driveor rescan the library to 're-find' pics?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Where are these files located? If they are in side the iPhoto Library/Originals folder you can try rebuilding the library by launching iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and following the instructions to rebuild the library. Select all the options, especially the one regarding orphaned photos.
If they are in a folder titled Imports or something like that drag the folder to the desktop and import them from there.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. IPhoto not showing content on iPhone

My iPhone has some content (images and video) that are not showing up in iPhoto. But iPhoto says all items have already been imported. There's no way to pick items to make it import them.
iPhone photos settings has Optimize iPhone storage on. Is that related to my issue?

Yes. Under Albums/All Photos.
"All Photos" is showing all photos, not only your camera roll. You will only be seeing "All Photos", if iCloud Photo Library (Beta) has been enabled, and then this view is showing you all photos in iCloud. See this link: Get help finding your Photos in iOS 8 or later - Apple Support

*Some* movies in iPhoto not showing in iMovie

Over the last few years I have shot many movies on my Canon S400 and loaded them into iPhoto. All my movies are .avi format. However, iMovie is not recognizing them all so some are not showing up in the Event Library. This problem appeared directly after the last update when it rebuilt the thumbnail library. Does anyone know how to get iMovie to recognize the previously viewable videos?

Thanks, but I need to clarify - this is not a matter of iMovie 08 not recognizing compressed formats. All the movies are from the same camera, as raw .avi's, and non-compressed or edited in any way.
Please clarify further. Am interested in how you define what "raw AVI" is. Have never heard of any form of digitized audio or digitized video that was not coded (i.e., compressed) in one form or another. Please explain how that works. Better yet, please post a screen capture of of the QT Player "Inspector" window showing the format of this "raw AVI."
iMovie is for some reason erroneously not seeing some of them.
As stated above, iMovie '08 can't "see" anything it can't edit.
I was able to export one of the "unseen" videos to my desktop and import it into iMovie 08 from there
I hate to break the news to you, but exporting, by definition, implies a re-compression of the file. And, unless you exported to the very same compression format with the very same settings, you have "converted" the file. In fact, even then, the possibility exists that the file may have been 'flattened" with the end result that an incompatible track may have been discarded or merged into the core audio/video tracks and thus made the file compatible.
but that's a lot of needless hassle.
Better get used to it. Until you can show that both the audio and video tracks are compatible and that there is no other content (such as a "Tween" track) included in the file, there exists at least a presumption that your AVI files as uploaded from your digital camera may not be "edit" compatible with iMovie '08. You can, of course check on this yourself by comparing the the "Inspector" information of you non-importing files with that of your imported file.
All the videos are in the same .avi format.
Are you sure. Some digital cameras have multiple video clip modes which may either changed settings within the same compression formats or actually change the compression formats.
All of them were recognized and worked just fine before the last update. Now, some get recognized by iMovie 08, some others don't.
Apple may have changed "error trapping" routines for the update you referenced. It may be checking intersects of audio data rates against audio sampling rate "standards" now. If you check export combinations you will find that only certain combinations are allowed in QT. Once again, you could help yourself tremendously by simply comparing the statistics of files that work with those of ones that don't work.
This is NOT as issue due to compression formats.
You keep saying this but offer nothing in the way of evidence to support your assertions.
